Joshua Kubinec peels back the curtain on the policy vacuum better known as the leader of Canada’s Green Party.;
We noticed a very interesting pattern of her “saying whatever she thought the crowd wanted to hear,” and I think that if you are constantly calling her out on everything she says, you’ll force her into a position where she’ll constantly have to be backtracking or adjust to a more consistent message.
[…]
Whatever happens though, do not let her hide as a snake in the grass and play the whole “we’re neither left nor right.” If she does not want to take a stand on where she lies on the political spectrum then drag her there kicking and screaming and force her to be honest with people about who she is and what she stands for. When you do this sort of thing, you have to be firm about it, and not give up any hint of remorse for doing so. Elizabeth May played the victim role very well when we attacked her in London-North-Centre, and the Central Nova riding association would do well to develop a way to confront her in such a way so as to not give her the opportunity to make it look like your bullying her.
Anyone who’s heard her flirt her way through a talk radio interview will recognize this;
In London-North-Centre, Lizzie was able to appeal to people here because she played what I’m going to call the “I’m so cute” routine. She constantly talked about how she doesn’t know much of anything, and how she’s just a simple Green Party leader, she loves kissing babies, etc. etc. etc.
Good analysis that should be useful for political adversaries – and media pundits, who really deserve to be taken to the woodshed for allowing her little act to go on as long as they have.

I had to laugh when I read, “The giggle politics of Elizabeth May.” I watched the media hoopla when she announced where she was running on Sunday. I couldn’t quite put my finger on what was wrong with her comportment. It was the giggle factor. For someone that is supposed to be so media savvy her behaviour was very lacking.
People who support abortion shouldn’t be allowed to kiss babies.
Or has the green party changed their stance?
And what about immigration statscan says it isn’t needed for over 20 yrs and it will effect Kyoto.
are you sure it’s an act?
I wonder about her fetal rights stance. Much less pro-abortion than the NDP. But would she support an unborn victims of crime bill?
So-cons might see her as worth voting for, if her abortion stance is less strident than Peter MacKay’s.
The contributor is one callow guy! He makes Cherniak look moderate and contemplative!
I try not to be distracted by the uber- hypocritical left. It doesn’t really matter at all what the Green Party or NDP say as they will never have a federal mandate.
Good point, and bang on the money, but unserious people like May aren’t a threat to anyone and she actually helps to split the left wing vote: she draws votes from the NDP especially, and to some extent the Liberals. This is all good. Think of how the NDP- Green split helped beat the NDP to shreds in the 2001 BC provincial election. Let her be cute li’l Lizzie: to the extent the act works (and it doesn’t work very well, really) she’s a headache for comrade Jack and that funny little man whose name I’ve forgotten and who doesn’t matter anyway who currently leads the Liberals.
I think she’s afraid of being an MP. I think she is comfortable being in a position with no responsibility. If she got elected she would need to make decisions and take a stand on issues and could be critisized. Running in a riding where she is guaranteed not to win allows her to stay in her comfort zone. If I were a Greenie I would not be happy with my leader.
Agreed. It is a lot easier to just sit in the peanut gallery and complain then to make decisions and actually do things and take the inevitable flack.. but then we have liberals?
I’ll say it again…
A socialist is a socialist is a socialist…
It doesn’t matter who/or what they are pretending to be today.!
I saw her on the news yesterday saying she wanted to run in MacKay’s riding because “Canada’s foreign policy had shifted dangerously away from Canadian values” or some such rot. As far as I can tell our foreign policy has not changed at all since the Conservatives took power. Except that members of the governing party don’t stamp on George Bush dolls on television.
I don’t think anyone is PRO-ABORTION, but there are a lot of people who are pro-choice…..
Well, how long before the compact between the liberals and her becomes clear….this is a political hit to go after Mackay….if I WERE IN Central Nova I might just be ticked off enough to vote for MacKay based on the cynical ploy to be represented by someone not from the area.
Liberals are in a no lose situation…if she wins Peter is gone….Belinda is happy….and she’ll be spending so much time on the freaking train she’ll never be in the house or in her riding. As well she’ll be pretty obscure.
If she loses oh well, the cpc does their dirty work for them and DIon is left as Mr Green.
I cannot believe she accepted the poisoned chalice as an offer. I think the people of Central Nova including some liberals may not take kindly to trying to get rid of the local boy….
Sorry this is ad hominem: Geoff described May, tongue in cheek, as ” . . . cute li’l Lizzie”. I saw her on a talk show and there’s nothing small about this woman, except maybe her brain.
Inspector Clouseau-I’d say she is as sharp as a fox or else she would not be where she is.My belief is the May Greenies are getting a free ride
from the media to damage the dippers. The victim dumb act is political. If you watch her closely she is very cosey with the libs.Someone has to ask her some hard questions ,after all she is now in the big leagues.
Aside from verbal diarrhea, what has Lizzie got to offer? One issue puts her right up there with Johnny One Note which gives us monotonous drone.
Pro-Confused-Well Said!
When she smiles she reminds me of Batman’s “Joker”. Kind of fitting I guess.
this IS the Party Policy . . . shades of aged marxists & intervention loving socialists.

Her stand on abortion is similar to mine. She personally loathes the ideas and has talked people out of getting them, but she does not believe the state has the right to dictate on this. Her personal animosity on this got her a lot of guff from Judy Rebick.
As for the rest of her politics, I really don’t know, nor do I think it really matters. The Greens attracted some libertarian support recently and picked up some of Mike Harris’ old staffers, once the party got federal funding. The leftist Greens, the ones who actually started the Green Party back in the early 1980s, left long ago in a fight over whether the Greens should have a central head office and a leader, or stay truly grass roots as a sort of leftist/anarchist/Greenpeace-like operation.
My bet: they will never win a seat, with May or anyone else, ever.
The people who tell pollsters they will vote Green are really saying “none of the above”, and, years ago, would have said they’d vote Rhino. Or they’re just BSing the pollsters. Usually, they never bother to vote at all.
“I don’t think anyone is PRO-ABORTION,…”
Especially those that Presidential candidate John Edwards (aka “The Fetus Whisperer”) worked so hard for.
That rascal made his fortune channeling the thoughts of unborn babies, in distress before their birth.
There isn’t one instance were he relayed their message as “Oh I’m such a nuisance, I’d rather be dead.”
Wayne in Wetaskiwin
Bourque had May pegged like a tail on the donkey on Saturday when he labelled her Don Quixote. Bravo !
Elizabeth is a one trick pony–environment, environment, environment. She has a very weak understanding of broader national issues and her party’s candidates are much worse.Nova Scotia voters won’t be fooled.
Who cares what her position on Abortion is … she won’t be winning the seat and it’s irrelevant to the debate. There isn’t a snowballs chance in hell that she can beat Peter Mackay … Mackays in Nova Scotia are like Copps in Hamilton … it took Paul Martin’s vindictive nature (and look how that turned out …) to get rid of Sheila Copps, not the electorate.
Central Nova will stand behing Mackay, all she’s done is divide the left votes three ways rather than 2. There are lots of places she could have run and won.
She doesn’t hesitate to slag Stephen Harper every chance she gets, in very ungracious terms. I hope she falls flat on her face in Central Nova. High-fives all around when that happens.
I first thought it was ‘green’ as in ‘green leaves on the trees and all things that contain chlorophyl’
now it appears to actually mean ‘green’ as in ‘greenhorn’.
I don’t think anyone is PRO-ABORTION, but there are a lot of people who are pro-choice…..

and in a related story, I dont think anyone is pro-death but there are a lot of people who are pro-LIFE.
She used that “Canadian values” bit? Christ, if I hear one more lefty moonbat beating his/her/its wings about that, I’m going to go postal. And unlike real Canadian posties, I can figure out where I’m supposed to go to make the delivery.
hey Mark B at least the Rhinos were funny. these wackjobs are completely serious
Whats the difference between pro choice and pro abortion?Non that I can see.
The Greenies probably aren’t going to win any seats, but they have to be taking more votes from the NDP and Liberals than they are from the Conservatives. And that is good.
one more lefty moonbat beating ”
hows about I write up a wee little spider routine to count the occurrences of ‘moonbat’ on the web and then open a discussion on the topic of WASTED DISK STORAGE SPACE.
“We noticed a very interesting pattern of her “saying whatever she thought the crowd wanted to hear,” and I think that if you are constantly calling her out on everything she says, you’ll force her into a position where she’ll constantly have to be backtracking or adjust to a more consistent message.”
Not anything like Harper on the environment, eh?
why dont we just throw all of them in a huge blender and see what comes out the bottom?
Im game. I’ll pay for the coal fire generated electricity.
no cheating now. only present sitting mps and party leaders.
what’s puree mean boss?
In true moonbat fashion, pro-choice, so long as someone else pays for their choice.
That someone else doesn’t have a choice.
“Joshua Kubinec peels back the curtain on the policy vacuum better known as the leader of Canada’s Green Party.”
Sooo that’s what the sucking sound was…a policy vacuum. 🙂
Tired old rhetorical statements from Lefties of all stripes, Liberals and Dippers , “Canadian values, blah, blah, blah” and “Canadians want/don’t want, blah, blah, blah”. They are the only ones who know all the needs and wishes of Canadians without even asking. They must be into the clairvoyance realm, somewhere in the twilight zone and frankly it’s gone
beyond funny. It’s more in the realm of verbal abuse.
CBCpravda has its favourite in May, like Justin and Sacha Trudeau , she is part of their star system.
note how either the liberal party or the very tired CBC translators have muzzled Borat Dion.
When asked about Afstan and Canada, all she can do is yabber on about Bush, Bush, Bush.

Ottawa
Mark, it’s not as if Bush has nothing to do with the direction of NATO in Afghanistan. I’d go so far as to say his government sets the tone and direction, and perhaps Canada should provide more input along with providing more resources.
