Lowell has a great morning show at 9 A.M. EST at CFRA.com
Entertaining and informative – he has his head screwed on right as well – one of the few sane minds in Ottawa and tells it as he sees it.
Yes, Lowell Green is a bastion of sanity. I hope every conservative and CPC supporter listens to him and parrots all of his arguments. If you hate the CBC, make sure you tell Lowell so he can tell his sister to stop working there.
I can’t imagine a better world than one where every knucledragging, mouthbreather echoes Lowell’s flimsy arguments and gets royally spanked by someone with actual knowledge, and not just a brainfart and a microphone.
That said, the whole show is about selling ad time. Talk radio appeals to conservatives because it caters to 15-second soundbite opinions, just like blogs. Real debate is necessary to solve problems, and it takes time.
Lowell Green tells it like it is. He tells the truth and that is a real problem for people like “anon”.
If we had Lowell Green broadcasting across the Country there would be an informed electorate.
He has also gone to bat for Veterans’ causes and raised many thousands of dollars for individuals and institutions in need of help through his show as well.
“anon”, you are absolutely off the mark in your criticism , we know however, for some, politics is everything, even beyond clear thinking.
Anon (is that you)? You said:
“Real debate is necessary to solve problems, and it takes time.”
Just before that you said:
“Talk radio appeals to conservatives because it caters to 15-second soundbite opinions, just like blogs.”
Is that your idea of a debating point? How long did it take you to formulate that ad hominem?
Now, when you say conservative, do you mean knuckle-dragging mouthbreather, or are you just referrring to people in general who don’t share your worldview? Just asking.
Shamrock: About the knuckledragging mouthbreather comments, I’m just being an ass, because that’s what blogs are for. Where else do you go to find shotgun bullsh*t and oh-so-clever portmanteaus like ‘Fiberals’? I get it; it’s soooo humorous, you replaced the ‘lib’ in ‘Liberals’ with ‘Fib’. The comedic depth is astounding.
Oh, and I wasn’t giving a debating point. I was making a statement. Do you disagree that problems of the calibre I was talking about (e.g., climate change) require careful debate? Do you believe that giving a caller 30 seconds to state their opinion is going to solve a complex issue? Isn’t it more likely to elicit an ill-formed, a poorly thought out or even a purely emotional response? The talk radio format is the antithesis of proper debate.
By the way, Liz, I agree that Lowell can do good things when he sticks to community efforts (fundraising drives and municipal politics) and stays away from opining on things that he has no clue about (almost anything having to do with science). He has admitted himself that he blows off just to get ‘lefties’ p*ssed off enough to call. It’s all about ratings and advertisements – but, again, he has done great things locally. BTW, you are clearly implying that my thinking is muddled. It may be so, but at least I know when to defer to experts and consider alternatives on issues of which I don’t know squat, which is more than I can say for half the BT crowd, and definitely for Lowell Green.
“anon”
Before you continue to infer Green is no more than a local character who knows little about politics and worldly affairs, read his latest book then come back and give us an honest opinion, beyond your political bent of course.
Green would do well in a debate with any one of the political leaders we now have. That would make a really good show.
We have a lot of very serious issues in this Country. They are serious enough to be our undoing if we don’t make some big changes in our way of thinking on several fronts.
We even have threats from a “cell” of the FLQ in Quebec who are threatening English area of Montreal. Scary stuff.
Perhaps Lowell shouldn’t have given his book such an absurdly indicative title. His brand of discourse centres on creating extreme generalities and facile stereotypes (tree-hugging, granola-crunching thug-huggers – how does one take that seriously?) to go along with his ridiculous hyperbole. The problem is that you can’t argue from the general to the specific, his facile stereotypes don’t exist, and his screaming, pulsating, nostrils-flaring approach to discourse leaves reason behind. He’s preaching to the converted and has no intention of doing anything else – giving more evidence that he’s not interested in solving problems, but just making noise.
Jason,er,I mean “anon”…go home!Your mother is calling you
It’s Lowell’s last year on radio, so “get him while he’s hot”.
“anon”: Lowell Green has obviously gotten to you, that’s the name of his game.
By the way, his book title is absolutely right on, unless of course, you are one or all of those in the title, then, like you, you couldn’t agree and resort to the usual.
Anyway, the book is a huge seller with great feedback, some from the thirty-something crowd as well.
“anon”, you could learn from it, it’s well researched and truthful.

anon @2:46 You must be new to blogging…the 15 second sound bite is generally the reference to the talking heads on media who skip the facts and give us a blip on record of a public figure(the 15 second sound bite) and twist the story enough so that the ill informed will have the predicted interpretation of what said media want the viewers/readers to conclude.Generally speaking…this method can have the positive slant for one party (we are talking political topics here) or a negative result for another party. It all comes across as “news”…so called.
Lowell Green has a talk show. He should be able to express opinion.IMHO
Anon, get a life.Lowell has forgotten more than anything you or the libs will ever know. His program is not about ratings and ads as you say.And i bet you cant find someone in the sciences that can BS lowell not even the
Zuzuki who tries to mascarade as a climatoligist. Why is everyone taking this guys advice he knows nothing about the weather. And anon why dont you have the guts to tell Lowell to his face what you tell us.
