Gone horribly wrong…

Update. Now, this is funny. Not content with going “wrong”, this particular Globe poll appears to have just gone away…

h/t – to those of you in the comments who have been following the poll results and examining source code.

It would be a good thing if Quebec separated from Canada. It then wouldn’t take Maritimers as long to drive to Alberta.
My theory is,Cherniak called G&M crying, warned them about the terrible comments/outcome of his little experiment.Don’t you wish G&M polls were set up like Cherniaks? What fun we could have,if you could post comments!
Well its good to see everyone has been busy today. Good catch on this poll. The G&M must just be crawling right now,as their control on the media has slipped away! Beautiful!
As the province now seems to be a dumping ground of other 3rd world French speaking nations, now that the Quebecois are now dying off from old age, their claim to having this oasis in North America of French culture is bogus.
Time to start the process of integration or deportation.
Interestly, there was a pole a couple of days earlier, about multiculturalism, and whether it has failed.
If I recall correctly, the “yes, it has failed” vote was leading the “no, it is good” vote, by a few thousand votes. Then, the next day, suddenly the margin is reversed, even though only a few thousand total more votes are cast.
As though all of a sudden 6000 votes went to the losing side in a row.
Very suspicious. I wish I had screen captured the poll.
I have the same poll up at my place, so far the numbers look the same, just on a much much smaller scale, of course.
The Globes’ manipulation of unsavory (to them) results in their polls reminds me of what the CBC did to their website bulletin boards a couple of years back. They had so many anti-Liberal comments leading up to the federal election, that all of a sudden, the bulletin boards developed a mysterious ‘technical problem’.
For at least a few months after that, anyone trying to access them would get the message that they were experiencing temporary technical problems and that the boards would be fixed shortly. What a joke! They were completely closed down for months. Couldn’t face the truth about their Lieberal masters.
well ace, when the ROC finally calls their bluff and quebec opts out in a drunken stupor, the moderates you speak of will move out of the world’s newest country.
also, the Parisian french look scornfully at quebecers as unsophisticated slang spewing bumpkins. and so they are !!!
the scoop on this poll thing is going to be interesting. has anyone called them on the phone to advise them of yet another ‘technical glitch’ ???
The truth is out there.
Apparently 43% of Globe readers believe that global warming is solely a
man-made phenomena. My question would be… are these folks a subset
of the 47% of Globe readers who believe in flying saucers?
Actually, what’s really got me freaked out is the missing 4% of these poor folk…
and what happens if the aliens refuse to return them to their families.
having grown up in Montreal, and having many relatives out there….the english are being bred out, the relatives i have can be ignorant, ie will not speak english no matter what, and demand everything, i am sure many are still on the teat of Canada, but I don’t know for sure, cause they think i am a redneck… blah blah…
anyways to the point, the problem with Canada is we have to all (CPC, LPC, NDP, BQ, soon to be Green)and start putting politics aside and fix things, there is too much of the “your out to lunch” and blow it off reactions.
we need to fix things and make it obvious to Quebec, that they need to be paying their share. There is no reason for them to be a have not province.
this would take the LPC and CPC to not suck up to them, will it happen, not, but that would put the separate issue to bed for once and all.
my 2 cents
I love Canada but we need to move on…
God bless Canada
Can we please sh*tcan that false dichotomy of Quebec versus the Rest Of Canada? It makes it sound like Quebec is the Canadian centre of gravity, and the other provinces are subsidiary to it.
I’d like to propose we strive to always use the term Greater Part of Canada, Greater Canada for short, to replace the demeaning ROC appellation.
Call it my “Greater Canada Manifesto”

As I’ve been saying for years: The Toronto Probe & Fail.
Probe, via polling, to find out what Canadians think about and want for Canada, then Fail to deliver the results, because–Wha-a-a-a-a-a-a-a–they aren’t the results the august “national newspaper” was expecting. In fact, the results completely wreck their editorial policy on Quebec and show them a Canada that’s not as “nice” as they thought we were.
‘Cant’ have that.’Can’t have Canadians thinking for ourselves and saying “ENOUGH IS ENOUGH.” “That’s OUR call,” says the G&M/P&F. How dare the plebs set the agenda. “That’s OUR job.”
‘Gave up our subscription and even reading the G&M/P&F a long time ago. The Case of the Disappearing Poll just confirms the soundness of that decision.
Must have been a glitch. It is back up, closed for voting and 63% would not mind seeing Quebec gone. Over 52000 votes. Interesting new poll as well regarding the investigation of the Conservative handling of income trusts.
I have plugged the following means to once and for all deal with the question of quebec separation.
rules agreed to all ahead of time:
go ahead and have your numerous referendums parti quebeqois, but as soon as one passes, now you have to ratify.
gives all sides a chance a sober second thought and nationalists a chance to make it graphically clear what the consequences will be if the ratification also passes: no more freebies.
so 3 or 4 months after the referendum passes the ratification vote is taken.
if it too passes then the message and decision is clear and Greater Canada has the privilige of being the first country to recognize quebec. and theyre free as a bird to issue passports, currency, devise language and foreign policy and economic policy to the hilt.
however, all french language laws in Greater Canada are immediate void.
and no more freebies.
if however the ratification fails, then clearly quebec has once again tried its famous scare tactic and shell game. clearly they are committing some sort of fraud and deception, so then the rule is NO MORE REFERENDUMS FOR THE NEXT 50 TO 100 YEARS. GOT THAT QUEBEC????
all the cards on the table, everything at stake, all or nothing, but, quebec: MAKE UP YOUR MIND ONCE AND FOR ALL.
this solves a lot of related issues as well like the resentment in Greater Canada against the anvil quebec holds over our heads and the harm to the nation’s economy every time a referendum happens.
all or nothing people, sit down and thrash it out.
at the very least, it then puts the question and onus squarely in the hands of the PEOPLE of quebec and all politishuns of all stripes no longer get to drag out this much flogged horse. call their bluff.
PQ: do you trust your own citizens with this decision ???
see what I mean ?
It looks like the G+M wants to exploit all of those clicks on the ‘polls’. To see the results now requires registration. I suspect the daily polls were one of the biggest traffic generators to their site.
I like that-Greater Part of Canada, but lets make the Greatest instead. I think there will be a lot of hits on SDA today from strangers, after Greg Weston writes about dion’s slip of the tongue in Halifax re Milk, mentions SDA and the cartoon. Hopefully, those strangers will read all the comments re the Poll and the Cartoons and Kyoto. Maybe a few will open their eyes and pay attention and see that their devotion to the liberals is bad for the Greatest Part of Canada.
Things might be changing a bit in the media. The cbc actually asked him today to explain what he means by sustainable development, and how many jobs would be lost. He said jobs are already being lost in the auto industry, and it is because we wasted a year, (since election) to act on kyoto. He seems to have forgotten the liberals wasted 13 years. He was asked would he meet Arnold, and he said he had, as EM and told him, whatever you do in California, Canada will match and better. So, now we know, all dion’s talk re GHG is a contest to better Arnold. Somebody should tell dion that canada and CA have completely different climates and economies and we have WINTER, every year, not occassionally like CA has now.
…G&M is back up, but seems only in IE, not Firefox.
New Pro-Liberal vote again on the site.
If one reads the comments on various topics in the g&m, one notices that there are very few from subscribers. But, there are many from former subscribers. And, how come some topics get up to 100 comments, and others are closed with only 7-10 comments. Who makes those decisions.
G&M polls seem to be requiring a “free” Membership now!
Another poll also going wrong in the g&m.
Do you support an investigtion into the conservative income trust
The no vote is way ahead, get over and vote before this one also has tech problems.
Clicking on past poll results shows the results of the past poll. 57% say no to an investigation re trusts. Liberal supporters of dions speech are few and far between. They must all be out taking DSL courses. (dionese as a second language)
mary t., you got it right; after religiously reading the Globe for nearly 40 years, I stopped subscribing a few years ago, and started reading the Post instead. My mornings are much happier now, as I don’t have to read gay/left/feminazi tripe that set my blood boiling.
The only time I pick up the Globe now is if I’m having lunch, have nothing to read, and there are no magazines or books available.
There seems to be a new tactic appears to generate fast polls to bury the undesirable results of other polls…
* Who do you think will win the Democratic nomination to run for the U.S. presidency in 2008?
* What should the area of Turner Valley and Black Diamond be called if they merge?
* Who do you think was the best dressed at last night’s Golden Globes?
* What the hell is ‘broadband’?
* Which Golden Globe-winning film will take an Academy Award?
* What do you think should be top priority in Canada’s dealings with China?
* Should Canada send more troops to Afghanistan?
No election has been called yet, but many media talking heads are suggesting the ballot question will be the environent. I disagree with that. SDA and other blogs will set the ballot question and it will probably have more to do with dions citizenship, inability to speak english, (imagine him having a discussion or press conference with Pres Bush. Bush might slip and call him celione. The US media will tear him apart, but he would shine at all those franco meetings. But maybe not do so well in France if he speaks que french, not real french. What language would he speak at the UN, and would he have an empty room like Martin did. Has he made any deals yet written on a napkin.
How about running a poll like this?
As a Western Canadian, which of the following do you find LEAST relevant:
1) Stephane Dion
2) Quebec
3) The Globe and Mail?
Link works for me, the results are still there.
