The faint hint of chartreuse climbing Jack Layton’s cheeks is not a reflection.
Leader Jack Layton’s call for tough emissions standards for new vehicles has hit a speed bump, with Canada’s biggest auto union warning the move could cost the struggling auto sector “thousands of jobs.”
Canadian Auto Workers president Buzz Hargrove says he was “taken aback” by Layton’s comments and rebuked the federal leader for not consulting with union leaders before making his demand for the new standards.
“It would have been helpful for you to have first consulted with the CAW on this important question before making your statement,” Hargrove wrote in a letter to Layton released yesterday.
And in other Jack Layton news – reaching out to Canada’s leading online anti-semitic community to help get their message out to Canadians should be just what the doctored ordered.
Update;
This should give Crawls with Caffeine and company more to blog about now that the NDP and Liberals are also “illegally colluding with bloggers in violation of the Elections act”. There’s never enough tinfoil around when you need it.

My point, again, is that Dion’s belligerant authoritarian stance (which I think is natural for him anyway) on ’emissions’ and ‘I’ll control the West’ – – is geared to getting him votes in Quebec. And Ontario latte land (the 416 zone).
As long as the West is grossly underrepresented in House seats, the Liberals will ignore the West, will use its wealth for their War Chests to bribe the public – and concentrate on the vote-rich zones of Ontario and Quebec.
The Liberals, after all, have only one agenda. Winning. Power. They aren’t interested in the welfare of Canada or Canadians.
So- how to win power? Get votes. Where are the votes? In Quebec and latte Ontario. These domains are ‘cocooned’ from reality . In particular, Quebec is cocooned, living a lifestyle that it cannot economically support, completely and always dependent on subsidies, ‘equalization’ and money transfers from the ROC. And – blithly ignoring the source of its lifestyle – the taxpayers of the ROC.
So- it lives with its massive cheap daycare, which it cannot afford. Its low university tuition, available for all francophoones over the world but not for any student from the ROC. But paid for by the taxpayers of the ROC. And, within a sense of no obligation to that same taxpayer. And, wanting, always, more and more money.
That’s Dion’s agenda. He’s showing the Ontarians and Quebecers that He’s Tough. He’ll get That Alberta Money. After all – as he himself said it’s easy money for them..
So- he’ll talk about how the West doesn’t ‘deserve’ the money (it’s ‘easy money’ as he says, not the result of hard work); and it’s Evil capitalist corporate money (Quebec is socialist – most of its employment sector is gov’t funded; unions are in charge – and the fact that this system is subsidized by the ROC corporations never occurs to them). This is what Quebec wants to hear.
The other propaganda topic is Kyoto. It’s an evangelistic religion in Quebec and Ontario. The fact that they don’t see it for what it is – a money scam…is an aspect of how they participated in the recent Liberal money AdScam of Canadians.
What’s the latest Liberal Adscam? It’s the attempt to take the Alberta money from Alberta, and hand it over to Quebec/Ontario. And the scam has the same agenda as the Liberal Adscam. To get votes – and Power.
The Liberals haven’t changed. This Dion action is their new Adscam.
he doesn’t care how he appears in the West. He’s not after the vote there. His trip to the West is a propaganda stunt for the East – for Quebec votes and the Ontarian latte vote.
“In particular, Quebec is cocooned, living a lifestyle that it cannot economically support, completely and always dependent on subsidies, ‘equalization’ and money transfers from the ROC”
ET,
As I posted earlier, go to this report from the CTF:
taxpayer.com/pdf/2007_corporate_welfare_report.pdf
Go to page 11 and look at the top 10 recipients of federal handouts….. At least 8 of 10 have their Canadian offices and operations in Quebec. Another (GM) also has interests in Quebec. The 10th (Trentonworks) is in NS. Hmmmmm…. Anyone sense a pattern?
ET-9.37 You are so right, but this time around we in the west are much smarter. But, I think we in Alberta are much smarter now than during the neps raid on our easy money. What a stupid stmt for a potential PM to make. We have to start right now, to let the 416 crowd know what will happen to them, should dion win. I imagine after the last 2 days the Alberta Separtist party has received many phone calls. We will be ready to kick ass if that donkey is put in power by que and toront. No more transfer pymts for a starter.
You are right that most living in quebec are unaware that we finance their life style. As my granddaughter discovered in the last 90 days, they think they are paying the ROC, not the other way around. BTW, the Maple Leaf pins and flags I got from my MP made a great hit with her team. They left them everywhere, and pinned them on all sorts of places and people. She is in Frederickton as of yesterday, so is looking fwd to working with cdns.
As always from you ET, a direct hit. Couldn’t agree more.
Majority power in this country is impossible without Quebec. Pander to Quebec, and you win power. The Quebec tail wags the Canadian dog, and has for as long as I can recall. A real senate could temper this inequity. We’ll never see it.
Without serious reform in Canada’s power structure, I remain an ardent separatist – goodbye Quebec, please leave, let the rest of us get on with our lives, without the PQ hands always in our pocket.
When the CCF wrote the Regina Manifesto back in the 1930’s there wasn’t a Jew, or Catholic, or ANYONE who wasn’t a WASP for that matter, within a hundred miles.
time to call Dion out on Kyoto.
Of the top ten GhG emitter’s in Canada, seven are coal fired electrical generation, 3 are Oil Sands and the tenth is Industrial – Dofasco in Hamilton.
The worst is Ontario Power Generation – and 30% of OPG electricity is from coal.
DIon won’t discuss taxing or closing down these emitters because then Canadians across the country will be impacted.
He’s satisfied to just crap on Alberta in particular and the West in general.
ET has it bang on – Dion learned his politics at the feet of Cretin and he’s the only one who can salvage a reputation for da little guy. Cretin is the dufus who got us into Kyoto because he needed to buy a reputation as a PM – he didn’t actually do anything in all those years except get Paul Martin to bend over.
Turn off those air conditioners Toronto, shut down Dofasco or go STFU.
Ahhh,
pitting region against region, in order to gain power.
A Liberal art form.
Bring on the suit Robbie, we’ll be happy to ensure Sid Ryan is an expert witness for the plaintiff LOL!
“The West is, by House seats, underrepresented by 11 seats.”
I’m all for representation by population, but that would mean giving Toronto a few more MPs. Strangely enough I don’t see Westerners supporting that.
If Alberta is the big problem for Canada in emissions I have a solution. Let the West go! Presto, no more big emissions for Canada.
Laytons all aglow with the prospect that the Terminator is going to visit PM Harper
Good reading over at AGWN,re Dion forcing LaPierre out..who’s the “control freak”now all you Libs?
After much contemplation,I’ve figured out why the Rabid Robert has been over here trolling! He’s lonely, and his blog is of such non-interest.Take a look at the # of comments to all his idiotic postings..basically no one cares what he has to say!He has become obsolete, and he can’t take being ignored.Just my take on things.
This is the economic inverse of NIMBY, “Not In My Back Yard”. When a proposed new power plant, nuclear plant, garbage dump, prison, chemical plant or whatever, that is generally agreed to be needed BUT nobody wants it in their locality, but foisted upon another locality, that’s the NIMBY Syndrome.
Now we see all the good lefties of the auto union crowd, led by Comrade Hargrove, who make their dutiful obeisances to the leftist secular theology of Kyoto, “Catastrophic Global Warming”, yadda, yadda and want “something done about it” BUT not at their expense. Go rock somebody else’s boat!
They’re related to the “Limousine Liberals” one sees in New York, Hollywood, London, etc. Everyone BUT THEM should drive tiny tin can cars, live in cheesebox unheated/un-airconditioned homes, etc. because…they’re special, don’cha know!
Look it up in the dictionary under H-Y-P-O-C-R-I-S-Y.

and faster than 5 years for 4.5 billion deaths
Jose – what you don’t understand is that Ontario would gain only a few seats. But the key is that the Holder of Electoral Power would no longer be Quebec, with its guaranteed 75 seats no matter how low its population goes….but the West.
At the moment, Ontario’s seat number is in accord with its population. I’m unaware of McClelland’s assumption that Ontario is ‘underrepresented by 14 seats’!!!! It’s the West that is underrepresented. By 11 seats.
In the 1950’s, Ontario and Quebec were the main population and economic centres of Canada. Their populations were equal, about 4 million each. The total population of Canada was only about 11 million. That’s all changed.
Quebec’s population has stalled; it’s about 7 million. Ontario’s has morphed to 12 million. And the West has increased dramatically to OVER that of Quebec. But, its seat representation is LOWER than that of Quebec!
In the 1950s, Canada could well have a centralist gov’t, focused around Ontario and Quebec. That’s over. We need decentralization now. The West has opened up; Quebec has dissolved into a perpetual whining loser, insisting on its relevance, its importance, and its requirement for Big Money.
Then came that disastrous Charter of Rights, which has little to do with rights (and these are contradictory in the text, pitting individual vs group rights and privileging the group over the individual!!)….The Charter is primarily about installing bilingualism in Canada. A disastrous act that effectively excluded 80% of the population from governance – and moved the power of governance to Quebec.
That’s why we see all those head offices there. And, Quebec has moved into an economy that is non-growth, is totally insufficient and reliant on the ROC for its upkeep. Yet – they, as Mary T points out, simply don’t ‘get it’. They think THEY fund the country! How? They don’t understand the massive subsidies for companies like Bombardier; the massive federal input into their subway system (Montreal), into roads, infrastructure, education.
Again – their ridiculous low university tuition – available to any francophone in France, Belgium etc, but not to any Canadian outside of Quebec..that’s funded by the ROC.
I could go on and on. I lived there for 15 stunned years.
We need the corrent number of seats in the West. Canada has to acknowledge reality; the West is the economic and population centre.
We need a Triple E senate so that we can amend the Charter and pass proper legislation instead of having the Old Guard Eastern patronage Liberal Senate destroy changes.
What Dion is doing now, is deliberately setting up a split in the country. East against West. Quebec wants money for its socialist lifestyle. It uses its ‘culture’ as a form of ‘special treatment’. Refuse Quebec anything and you are bigoted, biased and even, a racist. A Redneck Albertan – that’s what you are.
Dion, as I said, has NO interest in getting votes from the West. He’ll accept No Votes, as a sign of their Miserly, Evil Nature – ie, they don’t want to hand over their money.
His trip out West was pure propaganda, to show Quebec in particular – that he was carrying out their desires. And Quebec wants Alberta money. It ‘deserves’ it. I’ve never figured out this sense of entitlement of Quebecers, but it’s deep and unyielding.
And, Dion has to show Quebec that he’ll Stand Up to the Rednecks of the West. He’ll show them..he’ll impose fines, he’ll do this..and that.
For the Toronto latte crowd and for Quebec as well, the other issue is The Environment. That’s the new Religion. Save the Environment and You will be Saved from Sin and Evil and whatever else you can think of.
How to Save the Environment? Well…ummm…Oh, not by giving up our SUVs, our hour long commutes, our heat, our.. But by taxing Corporations! After all, we all know that Corporations are evil, greedy,….so, we’ll get the money from them. That will Save the Planet.
It will also show how Stupid We Are…but that’s another story.
But, I think it has to be made public – that the public is aware what Dion is going; that he’s attempting to split the country into West and East. That he’s attempting to harm the economy by his ignorant Environmentalism. And that he’s into a new Adscam. Scamming the public for Votes.
Saskboy, get your head out of the sky & burgar joints long enough to read some of the posters on the blogging dippers. Two leading posters certainly fullfill the anti-semitic label & one proudly stated that he was not a dipper at all.Perhaps you need a new forum or to clean out the loon elements to get your message out, whatever it is.
Again – and possibly I’m ranting on this – but it’s important and Dion must be confronted…Dion is behaving as a typical Quebecer. The ROC must support Quebec. Why? Because.
Lucien Bouchard’s excellent report on the problems in Quebec (Manifesto)..outlines the basic problems in Quebec. Its demographic collapse. It economic collapse – because it has set up its economy as completely dependent on the federal largesse to install, build, sustain industries, head offices – all of them non-profitable, all of them reliant on federal funds.
Its economy is based around, not productivity, but around the wages, benefits and ease of the workers. Quebec is heavily unionized and the only agenda of unions – is more money, more money, more money. Ignoring that this requirement means higher costs, less profit, less capacity to invest. What do they care? The federal gov’t supports all these industries and gov’t and non-gov’t offices anyway.
Quebec is a cocooned nest of Cloud Dwellers. And their lifestyle requires a lot of money. Not from them, for their businesses require that massive subsidization from the federal govt -and their decreasing population and tax base means that they are living far, far beyond their means.
But – they have the votes. Dion has only one agenda. Power. Winning the vote. So, he’s after Quebec. To do this, he must show Quebec that he’s out to Get Them Money. And that’s from Alberta.
The Quebecers know that the Bloc can’t, ever, have the power to get them money. (And the Bloc should not sit in our federal House!!).
So, Dion is trying to set up the Liberals as the Only Agent to get them the Money. That’s his tactic for Quebec.
His tactic for Quebec AND the Toronto latte crowd is The Environment. To do this, he must outdo Layton – who is fighting the Liberals for that latte crowd in Ontario. So, Dion must show he is even more of a Pure Environmental Saviour..than Layton. That’s why he and Layton are currently outdoing themselves in acting as Priests and Saviours of our Environmental Souls.
It’s about one thing only. Power. That’s Dion.
He doesn’t give a damn about Canada or Canadians.
On a slightly different note I would have to say that Dion suffers from the malady of what one could call ‘Continental Arrogance’ which translated simply means that his kind see themselves as just a little above ‘da common folk’; a little more in the know.etc: a authoritarian figure.
Papa Jean (Chretien) displayed it to a different degree than his puppet Dion; Chretien being the street smart thug that even an Armani suit can’t cover, as opposed to Dion being an intellectual priss that takes his marching orders from Papa Jean.
Anyway you slice it folks,it still comes up as political opportunism targeted at the west and Alberta specifically.
ET: I have read your comments for the past 2yrs with great interest I don’t know why you don’t have a column, as usual you hit the nail on the head.
I have always said liberal govt’s in Canada have been the Masters of Illusion, all Smoke & Mirrors or as my dad always said All Talk & No Work.
I think Canadians have to wake up to these facts that the Liberals will do anything to win at all cost, Now the Illusion is going to be selling the Kyoto Act & after listening to Rutherford yesterday they have not a chance in hell out west.
We need to get the message out that Kyoto will not clean the Air but will in effect cause an Economic Disaster For Canada.
I agree we need a green plan, However we need one that will Work for all not one that will benefit for Eg: China, Russia & India because they will not do their part & why should they, when they will in effect be the recipients of Billions & Billions. Dion say’s buying credits is the way to go, This will do nothing more then transfer Billions out of Canada & will cause manufacturing slowdowns when you have met your emissions targets you sell your credits to others who in effect don’t care.
The key is to make Ontario wake up & smell the roses of what an economic disaster this will be, Its an uphill battle & we need people such as Et & others to get the word out afterall the Media & Left will not.
shaken said: “Majority power in this country is impossible without Quebec. Pander to Quebec, and you win power. The Quebec tail wags the Canadian dog, and has for as long as I can recall.”
The motto of the Liberal Party has been/is: Walk softly and carry the big stick of Quebec.
From Laurier, King, and on through the decades this has been the Liberal Party’s only guiding principle.
The end for the Liberals is control of the centre, aka Ottawa. All the rest is ancillary; the means to the End.
Harper knows this; control of Ottawa runs through Quebec. MacDonald, Canada’s first Prime Minister, knew this; Laurier, King, Trudeau, Mulroney, knew this.
It will be played out soon, again. Deja vu, already.
Great comments!! Some of the best ever. Glad that you can be so selective with your choice of words.
I’m still fuming over Le Rat’s comments on the oil patch workers.
Pat
The thing about Kyoto that is so amazing is its religious infrastructure. It relies almost completely on faith; it ignores facts; it rejects dissent and debate – for those actions are heresy. It is embedded within the notion of Sin, the sin of wealth and accumulation; within the notion of Guilt for such accomplishments. It is completely apocalyptic, based around a ‘certain prediction’ of massive, explosive catastrophic hellfire Doom. It is utopian, claiming that we can Atone For Our Sins, if only we acknowledge our Guilt ..and do such and such. The such and such, by the way, is primarily focused around giving all our wealth away. Hmmm.
Now – if we look at Kyoto within that infrastructure, how can we be so incredibly stupid to agree to it?
The science of climate change is in its infancy; there is a great deal of work to do on causality, and there is absolutely no proof that our current climate change is due to anthropogenic (human) causes. No proof. No evidence. No data.
That the climate changes – heck – there’s a lot of evidence on that. A thousand or so years ago, the climate was a lot warmer. Greenland was green, not ice. Then it got colder. Then it got warmer. None of this was due to humans.
Most certainly, humans (and all species, by the way) pollute. Humans pollute big time – and we are gradually dealing with that. Remember, by the way, that industrialism has only been with us about 175 years or so. THAT’S ALL. We only industrialized in the 19th century with the use of fossil fuels (coal, gas then oil).
So- what’s going on? Think about this idiotic notion of ‘purchasing credits’. Good god – if that isn’t ‘stuck on stupid’ – what is?
Essentially this means that a Developed Country can continue to emit high levels of CO2. It can get around Its Guilt by ‘purchasing credits’ from another country also involved in the Kyoto Set of Idiot Nations. There are 166 idiot nations that have signed up to Kyoto. BUT, BUT, only about 35 of these 166 are under emission constraints!!! Get it?
Only 35 out of 166 are required to control and reduce their emissions. The rest are defined as ‘undeveloped countries’ and it would harm their development into wealthy capitalist style..if they were required to reduce THEIR emissions.
So, the 35 – who are the developed idiot nations – they can realize that to cut their emissions by 2012, can’t be done sufficiently. Why not?
Because research on developing new technologies takes YEARS. Not weeks. Not months. Years. Then, you have to test. And retest. Then, you have to get the money to change and rebuild your factories. That action would take – at least, at a minimum..at least 25 years to get a decent beginning result. OK?
So- in the few years (about 9) allotted to Canada, for instance, to reduce its emissions by 6%- it can’t be done. Especially when the Liberals had no intention of funding the new technologies or building the new factories and instead, planned to Buy Their Way Out. Canada’s emissions went up by 25%; the US, which didn’t sign Kyoto only increased its by 13% – because they are gradually working on new technology. We aren’t.
How do you buy your way out? Well, you keep emitting, emitting. And, you are ‘fined’. Billions of dollars. You ‘BUY’ ‘credits so to speak, from one of the so-called ‘developing countries’ which are exempt from reducing their own emissions. They are just sitting there, waiting for you to hand over the money.
This is not an investment in their industries; this is not a loan. It’s a pure hand over. KyotoScam.
The developing country can then use that money to build its own industries and factories and become, like you, polluting and emitting.
Oh yes – the ‘rhetoric’ is, that this money won’t be used to build Bad Factories, but Good Factories. That don’t pollute; that don’t emit. Heh. Another Stuck on Stupid act-of-faith.
There are NO sanctions for the recipient country if they instead build lots of cheaper old style factories. No accountability if they instead use the money for roads, or yachts or Swiss bank accounts. Faith…isn’t always the best tactic in international affairs. We’ve seen that in the Oil-for-Fraud.
So- the net result? The globe is more polluted than ever. More factories with pollution and emissions. And, the developed nations badly harmed in their economies as they struggle to meet the deadline by shutting down factories and industries. Or the taxpayer paying huge fines which are then shipped overseas to….
It’s a scam. A religious scam and needs to be exposed as such.
Canaduh was the only developed nation that was having a population growth period that signed Kyoto while pledging a reduction in CO2.
Citizen Dion needs to pledge that he will personally drop his travel by 25% immediately from last year and cut the heat in his ‘owse by the same amount.
Bit OT here, but listening to ctv newsnet this a.m.about wind damage in Stanley Park.Provincial politicos being slammed for no-show till few days ago,Campbell mia,as well as NONE of prov.cabinet showing up to view damage..has now become too politicized.
Got to thinking about situation we here in SE Manitoba had 2 summers ago,in little hamlet SE of Steinbach (Sandilands)when massive tornado like storm blew thru.I happened to be in area that day,sky was putrid green, frightningly so.I managed to get home to safety, just ahead of storm..had lightning strike pole in yard, and basically cowered in bunkerlike workshop for 2 hrs till over.
My point is this:this storm did a tremendous amt of damage, not only to the community(60 homes damaged),took 60 days for any gov’t ministers to respond/visit,and on searching thru min.of Man.Legislature, over 22,000 acres of trees were lost! That’s 22,000 ACRES,as opposed to I heard 3,ooo trees in Stanley Park!To this day,the cleanup continues, many of the homes in this hamlet still not fixed(a lot of them belong to weekenders fr.Wpg),and the village itself looks like a moonscape, where as once it was pretty little place, with lots of tall pine.Just this wk,yet another tree fell on main street! what has been done to help these folk?NOTHING..yet look at the outpouring of concern for BC!As far as I know,no ones home was affected, and I know what a treasure the Park is,having visited it..but seems a little unfair, that when our tragedy happened NO ONE cared..it got minimal media coverage, families are still struggling to get help for cleanup, and 2 yrs later, this place has been forever changed, but I guess because it sits in a “poor”part of province,it doesn’t matter.Sad.
Our political and media culture is now fixing blame on certain people, politicians, industries, and provinces for adverse weather events. ET’s 1:11pm post comparing Kyotoism to a kind of religion is really apt.
As for Beaker, he and his cheerleaders are starting to negatively focus on Alberta to a point that is almost obsessive. Is Beaker just totally clueless about the west or is there some kind of cynical, Chertienesque “internal boogeyman” campaign taking form here?
Any move to start exempting Ontario coal fired generating plants or the auto industry from his “plan” would mitigate toward the later possibility.
Who do you think deserves the title of “Canada’s leading online anti-semitic community”?
Allow me to introduce you to the Heritage Front for starters.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Heritage_Front
“Canaduh was the only developed nation that was having a population growth period that signed Kyoto while pledging a reduction in CO2.”
Great point, cal2.
And don’dt forget, most of the money for buying credits will flow thru Mo Strong, Chretain and Martin. How much will stick. I have maintained for a long time the reason Strong and Chretain are spending so much time in China is to set up the brokerage systems to buy and sell credits. If you think the CWB is bad, just wait for that. The reason the libs are so green now is because they see their plan being exposed to the general public. Read what is happening in Europe, the people are rejecting Kyoto as they have discovered it AFFECTS THEM AND THEIR LIFESTYLE, not just industry. Industry closes, jobs lost, purchasing power reduced to nil by the public. I hope the next budget takes all money away from Quebec social programs, child care etc. and puts controls on how they spend any transfer pymts. I still think the next election will be the last in Canada as we know it, with 10 provinces and 2 territories. Alberta or Que will leave, and if it is Alberta, the ROC will be in deep shit, (probably from dions dog)
Dion commented to an editorial board, in Calgary, that he has a 65 page report on his plans for the environment, that he has not made public. So, does this report exist, who wrote it, how much taxpayers money was spent, and will MP Holland insist that he make this report public, as cdns have a right to know. Maybe PMSH could make a deal or no deal, you make your report public and I will think about making Khan’s report public.
When will this report be made public, before or after he tries to win an election. Probably after, if he should win, and it is too late for the Que and TO voter to see how they have been scammed. Another case of liberal hyprocricy.
The question is, will Que and TO and the maritimes allow Dion to destroy Canada.
What people like Dion also don’t understand is that IF Quebec can leave, by virtue of that Clarity Act, THEN, any other province can also leave.
And Alberta, unlike Quebec, has the economic means to leave.
I’ve noticed that Quebecers will always talk, endlessly, of leaving – but when, I ask – ‘What’s stopping you? Leave!’ – they immediately become insulted, insist that I am bigoted and biased against them…etc.
They know, whether they admit it or not, that they economically cannot leave. They refused to develop their economy on their own; they moved themselves into ‘workers’ or ’employees’ and left it up to the federal gov’t and foreign investors to come in and set up the industries and head offices to employ them – as unionized, pensioned, employees.
Lucien Bouchard and 11 others wrote a Manifesto, Oct 19, 2005 on a ‘Clear-eyed vision of Quebec’, in which Bouchard openly states many of the problems with Quebec and urges them to ‘wake up’ and get things changed. I very much doubt they will. A society that will sue Wal-Mart because it refused to set up an outlet, and employ the town people – rather than setting up their own businesses – is in serious trouble.
I think Dion would be stunned to hear Alberta openly discussing separation. But his current tactic, which is to show himself up as The Controller of Those Alberta Easy-Rider Rednecks is extremely dangerous.
The West is the key to the Canadian economy – and Dion is living in the 1960s (as are many Quebecers).
By the way – I live in Toronto. Some of us don’t drink lattes.
Those first few comments were priceless. I mention no names and McClelland shows up complaining that I haven’t provided any evidence aside from something he wrote.

Abbe Dion: Kyoto is the indulgence; pay for it, suckers. …-
Indulgences
The logic of indulgences is hard for moderns to understand, but in reality they make a great deal of sense. The whole concept of an indulgence is based on the medieval Catholic doctrine that sinners must not only repent of sins that they’ve committed, they must also confess these sins and pay some sort of retribution. You see, the problem with repentance and confession is that the only evidence you have of repentance is the sinner’s claim to be repentant. Repentance is, like so many other Christian concepts, an internal state rather than an external action. The history of medieval Catholic doctrine is in many ways an attempt to find ways to present exterior signs for the interior state of the individual believer. Repentance was no exception to this. So in order for an individual to demonstrate that he or she is truly repentant and not just mouthing the words, the concept of “temporal punishment” was invented. In other words, the sinner needed to undergo some punishment or task; the sin would not be expiated until this was accomplished. Part of this temporal punishment involved doing “good works,” that is, deeds that are charitable such as feeding the poor or caring for the sick. A truly repentant person would show that repentance by behaving in the most charitable ways towards fellow human beings….-

Harper has been called a control freak by the msm but he has nothing on Dion. Dion told Khan to leave, forced Lapierre out, will appoint 103 women as candidates, and has basically told his causuc, you are with me or agaist me. Now he thinks he can tell albertans how to live and manage their economy. He isulted every man, woman and child with his stmts that working for money is not good for the economy. Guess collecting welfare and eu is better because he can tell them how much they can spend. Cutting taxes is not good, he want the money for brown paper bags. I hope that the media will soon quit treating him like he is the pm and expose him for the communist he is. He and Chavez should get along fine, aka Castro and trudeau. And I wonder how many of those easterners and maritimers will follow him and give up their 60,000, with benefits and no union dues,/yr and go home to pogey. Takes about 2 yrs for those people to get rid of their liberal and ndp views and vote conservative. And the families left behind might not like not having money to spend either. Maybe we will see an anti-liberal revolt clear across Canada. And remember, dion said he would only appoint women in winnable safe ridings, so who next to be forced out.
Judging by the tone of the rantings today, the fear of future Liberal victory has reached new heights.
The biggest fear of a liberal government is that this time dion might keep his promises and take Canada to the pre industrial revolution.
Guys, please don’t lump all us Easterners in with the Liberal strain of thought. There are plenty of us who do not believe in Dion’s disassociated ramblings any more than you do. Admittedly, there may be fewer of us, per capita, but we are here just the same.
That being said, I’ve lived equal years in both the East and the West and by far the biggest money grubbers I’ve met were right here in the “center of the universe”. They’ll take it anyway they can get it (stock options, performance bonuses and severance packages are especially popular), and spend it most conspicuously so that everyone knows they have it. I never found that to be true of Westerners.
I do have to laugh at Dion chastisement of the money grubbers working in the oil sands. Guess he hasn’t got a clue that people working in the oil sands (and related industries) have come from all over Canada to earn the bucks they can’t earn in their own Provinces to support their families. Newfoundlanders and Quebeckers seemed to be among the highest represented migrant workers, at least when I was there (just before and several years after the NEP) and I rather doubt much has changed. But, I stand to be corrected.
The biggest fear of a liberal government is that this time dion might keep his promises and take Canada to the pre industrial revolution.
No worries. Dion and the Liberals won’t do any more to adhere to Kyoto if elected than they did for the 13 years they had power. They are masters at making the right noises that make voters feel good about themselves. However anything that actually causes discomfort to voters will be avoided. They are that smart.
Jan, I have family workig in Ft Mac, and the standing joke is that it is now the Capitol of NFLD as there are so many thankful people from that province for the opportunity to work. Now, most of them stay year round, instead of going home to live on pogey for the winter. Many of the 18-25 age group, unmarried, spend the winter in some warm place, like Cuba, Hawaii or Mexico. Quebecers don’t fare so well, as they discover no one will bend over backwards to speak french to them, and there refusal to speak english doesn’t make many friends. The small rural towns in Alberta are being filled up with families from the maritimes, as their husband is working in camps for weeks then home. Home does not have to be Calgary or Edmonton anymore. We welcome them all. We also educate them on the stupidity of liberals and ndp.
bryanr – getting the Ontario zombie Librano-voting dual income latte-quaffing SUV-speeding greenhouse-gas emitting crowd to wake up will require breaking the hermetic media seal that pumps non-stop Librano propaganda 24×7 to them. Trawna Star, Grope and Flail, C-No-Evil TV News, Commie Brainwashing Corp, etc. etc. They’re told what to think about everything, daily, non-stop. It’s a huge group-think. Got to get them to the blogs, where at least they are exposed to other possible views of reality. Yes, and even how completely off his rocker is that fine rep of the New Hypocrit Party, tyrant-in-waiting Mc-la-la-la.

I checked your link to the Heritage Front. Thing is, the Front disappeared a decade ago and Droege is dead. On the other hand, you are your anti-semetic Dipper friends are still very much with us, so where is your comparison?
Chez “Blogging Dippers” one comes across this;
“Knickers Down Saturday Night – Virtual Jazz Club”

Now Melodius Thunk is my favourite musician and “Bright Mississippi” brightens up one’s brain.

There may yet be dipper taste, if not in blog titles.

WTF? Jeebus, Kate, you used to sound relatively sensible. Weather getting you down? For crying out loud.
lberia: “Judging by the tone of the rantings today, the fear of future Liberal victory has reached new heights.”
It looks like one of Taliban Jack’s little girls has again completely misread the situation … again.

Ural, not who Kate says here, anyway.

The dipper blog story about Cubans growing food in the cities is probably why Calvert is there now. If he could convince the civil servants to produce our food on their city lots he could truly get rid of rural Sask and rule forever.
I thought he was in Cuba to learn more from one of his heros Fidel. He does need some mentoring

Obviously if you knew this to be the case you would have links so we could check it out for ourselves.
Yes, Robert, I have to agree. Please post the non-link to the real “anti-semitic online community” without further delay. If the link is nonexistent, it proves that the Blogging Dippers must be an anti-semitic online community, by default. There is no time to lose! Don’t let the impeccable logic of the right wing be an obstacle.

Ahhh…Now I understand the liberals.
