Not a single terrorist attack on US soil since 9/11/01.
A new direction from there means, what?
Osama bin Laden is living under a rock in a dark cave, having not surfaced in years, if he’s alive at all, while 95% of Al Queda’s top dogs are either dead or in custody, cooperating with US Intel.
A new direction from there means, what?
Several major terrorist attacks already thwarted by US and British Intel, including the recent planned attack involving 10 Jumbo Jets being exploded in mid-air over major US cities in order to celebrate the anniversary of the 9/11/01 attacks.
A new direction from there means, what?
Just as President Bush foretold us on a number of occasions, Iraq was to be made “ground zero” for the war on terrorism — and just as President Bush said they would, terrorist cells from all over the region are arriving from the shadows of their hiding places and flooding into Iraq in order to get their faces blown off by US Marines rather than boarding planes and heading to the United States to wage war on us here.
A new direction from there means, what?
Now let me see, do I have this right? I can expect:
    The economy to go South
    Illegal to go North
    Taxes to go Up
    Employment to go Down
    Terrorism to come In
    Tax breaks to go Out
    Social Security to go away
Health Care to go the same way gas prices have gone
    But what the heck !
I can gain comfort by knowing that Nancy P, Hillory C, John K, Edward K, Howard D, Harry R and Obama have worked hard to create a comprehensive National Security Plan, Health Care Plan, Immigration Reform Plan, Gay Rights Plan, Same Sex Marriage Plan, Abortion On Demand Plan, Tolerance of Everyone and Everything Plan, How to Return all Troops to the U.S. in The Next Six Months Plan,
*A Get Tough Plan, adapted from the French Plan by the same name* and a How Everyone Can Become as Wealthy as We Are Plan. I forgot the No More Katrina Storm Plan.
Now I know why I feel good after the elections.
I am going to be able to sleep soooooo much better at nights knowing these dedicated politicians are thinking of me and my welfare.
Please pass this good news along to all of your friends so they can feel better also.

  2. ET, Stephen, Shaken and WLM..I think all of you are both right and wrong about the pieces of this puzzle. I think it is too easy to try and simplify this down to economics or religion, democracy or facism. I think there is way more going on than we are aware of. As Rumsfeld said, “…there are also known unknowns. That is to say, things we know that we don’t know.” I love that. Sorry.
Yes, initially the war in Iraq was presented as the removal of WMDs, hindsight shows us that with UN surprise, and scheduled, inspections being delayed and outright refused that the disposal of WMDs, or evidence of them, likely continued until GW II. Removal of Saddam from a leadership position, and eventual…well you know, again a good thing. Spreading democracy and free elections all good stuff. But what happened after the ground war was over ? We know that didn’t take very long. But what happened to bring on all of these insurgents ? Perhaps the fact that Iraq has one of the 3rd largest deposits of oil yet lineups at gas stations in some areas are 17hrs long. There has certainly been a large number of contracts awarded to US contractors in Iraq. Not only for logistical support such as KBR Halibutron, but also security contractors. I believe that the 2nd or 3rd largest armed force in Iraq is private security contractors. Beefing up security at all places of entry to the continental US is of course expensive, but it is also lucritive to contractors. This all lends to the sustained economic stability and low unemployment for the US. But is it all about the spread of democracy or is that in itself democracy.
All this growth for the US and it seems as if the Iraqi people have been left out of it. Convoys of fuel, food and equipment run up and down the highways and biways of Iraq all day long. Yet most truck drivers are foreign contractors. Construction is taking place but how many Iraqi people are hired ?
In the beginning I think the Iraqi people were very happy to be rid of Saddam, perhaps just a majority, and the chance of a better way of life. But think of it this way. If someone said they were going to liberate you, bring democracy and help you to grow and then you have little to no food, no job, little to no utilities, soldiers breaking in to your neighbours house and stopping you from moving while a convoy passes through…it might piss you off some too. It’s been 3 years.
That also has absolutely nothing to do with my support for the armed forces on the ground in Iraq and Afghanistan as well as naval forces deployed. It is an incredibly brave and noble human being who is willing to make the ultimate sacrifice for their country. I hope that no one confuses doubt in “the mission” with not supporting the troops. I am a staunch supporter of ours and all allied soldiers, sailors and airmen. They don’t get to choose where they go nor how long they will be there.
I guess the whole point of Kate’s original post is will there be a strategy behing this latest plan besides just sending in more troops ? Give a soldier a specific task with appropriate resources and come hell or highwater that task will be completed. Tell a soldier to seek out terrorism without clear strategic goals and unfortunate consequences are the result.
BTW, in no way was I trying to inflame anyone, this is just my 2 cents CAD, 1.85 USD.

Er-r-r-r-r… did you just define liberalism, with the avatar of a moonbat?

  4. Prior to the war, a large number of Iraq’s oil contracts were with Total Fina, a French oil company, majority owned by Power Corporation, whose owner’s son is married to Chretien’s daughter.
Consequently Canada did not participate with its traditional allies – the US, Britain and Australia – in the Iraq war.
Yes, it is all about oil.
However, having said that, it’s Iran that should have been attacked and defeated without quarter or compromise. Afterall, Iran declared war on the US in 1979 and as an Islamic state run by the mullahs, it has been waging that war ever since.

  5. “America is a fake economy, no different than a criminal with a stolen credit card on a three day crack binge. It is a fake economy with fake tax rates which, fakily, has created a fake image of prosperity. If you’re any kind of conservative you’ll agree with me that today’s deficit is tomorrow’s tax hike and that America needs a more realistic tax rate, now.

the economy of the entire world is nothing but the biggest ponzi scheme ever.
the ‘early’ ones into and out of the scheme rake billions and trillions, late arrivals wind up in debt permanently, having financed the exit payments to the early birds.

  6. Last November the American people blinked and proved to the world that even after 9/11 they have not got the backbone needed to defend their nice cozy expensive lifestyles. “IT is about oil”? No, YOU are about oil and as much of it as you can suck up in your SUVs, your private jets and multiple cars. And just where do you think the oil is going to come from when you get out of Iraq and the crazys take over? Seriously, as you contemplate cutting and walking, you whining Americans show you have the memory and attention span of gnats. The one thing you do not have is a collective backbone.

  7. Are you speaking as a condecending Liberal Canadian, Kay?
If so, I’m sure you also believe your French citizen surrender monkey leader has gonads?

  9. No, I am no liberal. I am speaking as a pissed off Conservative who expected more from the American Republicans.

  10. “What I find astonishing is the utter naive expectations of people – to expect that a dictatorship and a tribal-based society can move, overnight, without trauma, into a peaceful civic, non-tribal mode. Astonishing.”
Tell that to George Bush. He certainly thought so.
