  1. Penny:
I recommend that you learn to debate a position, rather than insult people you disagree with.
And I am rather surprized by the number of people who apparently cannot (or will not) distinguish between
    1. Holding a belief.
    2. Being unoffended by a belief without actually holding it.

  2. ET, like Islam the Left considers itself the custodian of truth, never acknowledges its faults and errors, considers itself infallible and never apologizes. Autocratic, totalitarion, even when it plays the game of democracy. It does not accept different opinions and despises you if you think differently.
As Fallaci notes in her book The Force of Reason the most critical thought on Western Civilization is our concept of individualism whereas socialism and Islam is based on collectivism. Anyone who denies individualism denies Western Civilization.

  3. Flaherty’s secret gift
    [Approved by Conservative PM Harper]
Canadians have been handed a wonderful Christmas gift,
yet most of us don’t realize it yet. We’ve been so busy reviling Finance Minister Jim Flaherty for his new tax on income trusts that we still haven’t unwrapped all the other tidbits that came with the trust announcement. The most important is called pension income splitting and it’s potentially a much bigger deal than all the outraged headlines about income trusts combined.
Income splitting could put thousands of extra dollars in your pocket every year, and maybe even allow you to retire earlier. “At some point just about all of us will be affected by this,” says Sandy Cardy, senior vice president of tax and estate planning at Mackenzie Financial in Toronto. “Most people are focusing on the trusts, but for many Canadians, pension splitting is going to have a much bigger impact.”
    How big an impact? …-

  4. “Income splitting could put thousands of extra dollars in your pocket every year”

I smell a pyramid scheme. Retired people – who left my generation with a half trillion dollar debt – need to pay MORE taxes, not less. I propose a “generational equity tax” on all Canadians over the age of 55, to make up for the lack of taxes they have payed.
Further reading from Stats Can: “Intergenerational equity in
    Canada” http://www.statcan.ca/english/studies/75-001/archive/1997/pear1997009003s3a04.pdf
    “…Summing up, Arthur Kroeger
    talked about the substantial changes
to Canadian society in recent decades.
Those now retired appear to be
    continuing to benefit while younger
generations may be faring less well
    than previously. He suggested that
this was a time when careful assessment
    and creative applications of
data were crucial in dealing with
    demanding social issues such as
    intergenerational equity.”
SAY NO TO INCOME SPLITTING SAY YES TO TAX FAIRNESS

  5. The internal tribal warfare that’s ongoing in Islam today is no different than it’s ever been. The Sunni’s and the Shi’ites had a bloody split early in the history of Islam over succession to Mo. They’ve been killing each other ever since.
Beyond just the two sects, any and all Muslims like to kill each other (for example, the current Fatah and Hamas bloodshed).
And of course, the greatest sin is unbelief, and there’s no sin in killing an unbeliever, so they can all agree on killing infidels.
    A couple of prophetic verses:
He [Ishmael] will be a wild (donkey of a) man. His hand will be against everyone, and everyone’s hand will be against him. (Genesis 16:12)
Why is he called Ishmael? Because in the future G-d will listen to the cry of the nation for what the children of Ishmael will do in the future, at the end of days…(Psalms 55:20)
Mohammad (and most Arabs) claim direct decendency from Ishmael. Given the verses above, I wouldn’t argue with that claim.
Islamism may be placated by capitalism (check the economic success in Iraq that the MSM is ignoring), but I hold no hope in a truly democratic ME. Either way, it’ll never be far from the sword.

  6. I see Bob’s wrong again.
Nobody needs to pay more tax.
Pension splitting is a biggie, and here’s hoping Flaherty goes ahead and introduces income splitting in the spring.

  7. Bob, bob,bob…..You just can’t seem to stop making really stupid statements! That and you don’t understand that low taxes equals greater productivity, more revenue to the government and more opportunity for not-so-clear thinkers like you because the economy is expanding, not retracting. Don’t worry about that debt. It is becoming a smaller and smaller percentage of the GDP…………oh well – there I go talking in terms that Bob can’t grasp let alone understand.

  8. ET – How are the Euroweenies who are totally unable to even beat back entrenched Marxism in their elites, academia, labor unions and MSM going to beat back Islamism? Granted we have those issues here, but, at least we aren’t demographically going to be overtaken in a generation or two. Here’s why Europe can’t win, the little muddled rabbits(like rabbit here) of Europe, and, there are so many more there, with no core convictions, vacuous, and devoid of history, hence no indignation when faced with evil, are incapable of defending a country, a culture that has no meaning to them. Islam’s brutality is invisible to them. What can be said of a group that lives right in the thick of in your face non-assimilating Muslims and act like deer in front of headlights?
They are doomed. They are scared. They are buying time in France, Holland and Scandinavia.
    Mark Steyn has it right.

  9. Dion’s Pyramid Scheme, aka the Unity Reserve, was directed by Kyoto Dion on the orders of AdScam Chretien-Martin-Gagliano, et al, aka Librano$.
Dion said: I know nothing, rien, about this Pyramid Scheme, this AdScam. Ask Sheila Copps, or Alfonso Gagliano, or Chuck Guite, or…
Details of Librano$ Pryamid Scheme here:
On April 29th, 2004, the President of the Treasury Board, today released the list of projects and initiatives approved from the Unity Reserve.
    What is the Unity Reserve?
The Unity Reserve was a source of funds used to fund projects and initiatives accounted for through annual public reporting in the Public Accounts of Canada. Its objective was to support national events, celebrations, projects and initiatives to strengthen Canadian unity throughout the country.
The Unity Reserve was discontinued in Budget 2004 as part of the expenditure review process currently underway.

  10. penny – you aren’t making an argument, with premises, evidence, data – you just are providing a set of opinions/conclusions. That the Europeans don’t have this, don’t have that. These are opinions.
I disagree. They aren’t as vacuous, devoid of history, incapable of defense, as you assert. The evidence can be found in their actions of rejecting non-integration. This new assertiveness and rejection of multiculturalism is a great change in Europe; it won’t ‘flip’ overnight – but there are more and more voices in Europe who are openly rejecting the Islamic refusal to integrate. That’s in France, the UK, the Netherlands, Denmark. It’s happening.

  11. “She wrote a book…I know it’s only 27 pages but it’s her first try and that’s longer than most people’s books.”
Ya sure, easy to make that clain but I heard 26 pages are really just pictures with very short captions.
I mean, how many unique verbs do you expect Belinduh to know how to use in one book ?? I think three is very commendable.

  12. I don’t understand why everyone’s jumping on Rabbit! I get what he/she’s saying it’s a Libertarian sort of position. I don’t agree with him/her but I understand….of course in the case of Mains’ exclamation it’s just wrong!
If you can’t commit allegiance to your nation you have a definite problem in my view. Mains went way beyond that in a vitriolic abuse of GW Bush to a foreign audience because she’s unhappy about what HER president was doing! Just typical of the liberal spite and rejection of the rights of others through the democratic process. Bush derangement syndrome exemplified in a petulant childish rant by a self absorbed half wit who was given a public stage! really disgraceful behaviour and truly obnoxious!
    Mains belongs on the LIST!

  13. Based on what Rabbit said, “I’m a (Canadian) Patriot, but I understand If not everybody buys into it…”
I don’t see why anybody is getting on his case.
This idea of Patriotism is different depending on your political slant. For example, Paul Martin asked Stephen Harper, “Do you love Canada?” Well, of course Harper loves Canada. But I doubt it’s the same nuanced, revisionist, multiculti, Liberal values Canada that Trudeau made up and Martin loves.
I for one am not a Patriot to that kind of hijacked, patently false, imaginary Canada either.
    Penny,
There seems to be a couple of things going on in some parts of Europe that are hopeful. Tony Blair’s (seeming) rejection of multiculturalism; and the way some positive changes (restrictions and warnings) are taking shape in Denmark and Germany.
At the same time, Europe is also losing an increasing number of natural citizens to emigration.
I have more hope in Europes ability to bounce back than Steyn. Afterall, these people are the ones that came up with concentration camps, gulags and both world wars. And in the current activities (of the countries mentioned) they’re ahead of both the US and Canada.
Look at what Pelosi is doing.

  15. Kate….CONGRATULATIONS on winning the award for best Canadian Blog!!!!!!!!!!!
I thought that you would win hands down and you smoked ’em!!!!!
I see that that little steaming pile of socialism “Buckdog” has had a fit over you winning…that alone makes it all worthwhile.

  16. Scottish soldiers short of kilts
    December 18, 2006
    Associated Press
EDINBURGH, Scotland – More than 5,000 Scottish soldiers are having to share ceremonial kilts because defence chiefs have yet to finalize a contract to buy enough to go around, military officials said today.
The men, who face regular tours of duty in Iraq and Afghanistan, have just 320 kilts among them, or one for every 15 soldiers.
Combat troops wore the traditional Highland skirt in battle as late as the First World War, but now the plaid kilts are used as part of ceremonial uniform.
New kilts are needed for all Scottish soldiers following the August merger of centuries-old regiments into a single Royal Regiment of Scotland.
“A planned deployment of kilts will be agreed with the Royal Regiment of Scotland on a rollout basis with . . . the full program being completed by January 2008,” a Defence Ministry spokesman said today.
    =========================================
I imagine it takes a few wee drams o’ whisky before a Scotsman puts on a kilt worn by another.

  17. Irwin..what is Nancy Pelosi Doing?
    Miss.Matt..have they called Sean Connery?
I hear he’s offered to bankroll independent Scotland!

  18. So once again bob opens his mouth and shows the world his ignorance. A generational equity tax?? give me a frikkin’ break. Maybe his mommy and daddy are rich because they can afford to let him live at home but there are a frack of a lot of us middle class, middle aged farts that have been working and paying taxes for 40+ years. There is a reason that provinces are all geting rid of the manditory retirement age and that is because there are a lot of folks out there that will have to work for the rest of their lives in order to put a roof over their heads and food in their belly. Remember, that Canada didn’t have a debt until Trudeau got in and started his great socialism experiment.
Remember bob that it is better to be quiet and have people think you are a fool than opening your mouth and removing all doubt.

  19. Pelosi and another donkey are sponsoring an “End racial profiling act’ propeled by the five flying imam terrorist poseurs and supported by CAIR.

  20. Correction to my post at 3:13-it was an immigration panel (board) that deported the cdn, not a judge. Still, how can you deport a cdn to another country, when a non cdn is suing our govt for millions because he was deported from that evil USA to his country of birth. How come we cant deport all the draft dodgers and AWOL americans, terrorists in our jails, but can deport a cdn.
I have gone over my clients tax returns for 2005, and income splitting would be a great benefit for most of them. Especially for those with a non working (outside the home) spouse. That, with the extra 100/month should give those just getting by some extra spending money. The proposed saving plan for parents of disabled children will be another plus. And for those of you still thinking our PM has raised your taxes, he didn’t. Martin did when he reduced the rate to 15%, but also reduced the non-refundable credit to 15% from 16%. In many cases it cost you more taxes. Thanks Penny, I think. If you are not grown up, you are wise beyond your years, by your posts.

    “bollocks”:
You seem confused. I was not having a go at “rabbit” but rather pointing out that “rabid patriotism” isn’t really patriotism at all.
It’s good old nationalism at its most noxious.

  22. “Correction to my post at 3:13-it was an immigration panel (board) that deported the cdn, not a judge. Still, how can you deport a cdn to another country[?]”
Depends on the Canadian in question.
Through bilateral agreements, a Canadian can be extradited to a number of other countries to stand trial.
However, your mention of an immigration board implies the Canadian in question was a naturalized citizen.
Depending o the circumstances, a naturalized citizen could be stripped of Canadian citizenship and deported to his/her home country.

  24. From History to Harper and the “nation” situation
    Extract:
So in conclusion, what we have before us under the rubric of a qualified nationhood for Quebec is in fact the first bold step in reversing the Canadian welfare state.
Harper is keenly aware that no one will now dare to deny Quebec its new “nation” status. He is also aware that Quebec will now likely support him for a majority government in the next election. And he knows that Quebec will continue to push for the powers appropriate for a nation. But he will hold them to what he said: Quebec will be considered a nation “within a united Canada.”
And he will then slowly apply that condition to all other provinces that want it, because under our Constitution provinces were intended to have provincial sovereignty over their own list, and the feds were to meant to keep their hands off. To respect provincial sovereignty in a united Canada. Of course, the other provinces not so dominated by a single ethnic and linguistic group will not care if they are called a “nation,” but it will have to be by some label just as chummy. What they will insist upon is “equal” provincial rights and sovereignty.
Thus, through a long process of reversing the workings of the monster – to include reducing taxes wherever possible, eliminating the national debt, removing nanny-state federal tentacles from all places in which they have never by right belonged, and of course by removing transfer payments – he will undertake to restore provincial constitutional rights.
Harper has just commenced the deconstruction of our rusty welfare state.
He aims to slay the monster and restore us to our own constitutional truth and honesty. …-

    Fields of Broken Dreams
    CLAUDE ARPIN, The Gazette
    Published: Monday, December 18, 2006
Mirabel is the largest international airport in the world, built to handle up to 30 million passengers a year. Now it will handle only charters and cargo. What went wrong? Bureaucratic bungling must take some blame, especially for the failure to supply crucial road and rail links.

  26. rabbit, I had a long talk with Christopher Robin and I owe you an apology. My gentle poke would have been better aimed at N. Mains, not you, although it may be a matter of degrees.

  27. I could set up an internet poll on anything I wanted. What do you think the results would mean? Nothing. Nothing at all.
