…I decided to run a little experiment. I wrote this post this morning. It includes three stories. The first is the car bombing in Baghdad today. The second is a story about Iraqi Police finding a bomb near the Golden Mosque in Samarra. The third is about Iraqi army forces freeing 23 hostages and capturing or killing some members of the cell.
I consider the deaths of the innocent people in the car bombing, “negative news.” I consider the other two stories “positive news.”
I decided to follow all three today and see just who picked them up and who didn’t.

Kate, this is off topic, but shows what happened with Arar and what Holland and the Liberals are trying to cover up.

He doesn’t need to do any research. The answer is obvious.
Negative news sells.
While the conservatives like to paint that as some sort of Vast Left Wing Media Conspiracy, the truth of the matter is that we, the public, choose to watch and choose to buy negative news in bigger numbers than positive news.
That applies just as much to Iraq, Afghanistan and speculation of a worsening economy under Bush as it does to murder and drugs in our neighbourhoods.
It is always nice and easy to have someone to blame other than ourselves for such things, but the reality is that we are a little more depraved than many would like to admit.
Ted
Rusty could have saved himself some time and effort. Anyone who has been paying attention knows that “If it bleeds, it leads” and anything else is only used as fillers on slow news days.
Sad truth is that since the MSM will not report their shortcomings, the general public will not realize they are being fed (lefty) pablum.
The leftard MSM will only print what they see as benefiting their own viewpoint. Look at the story above on Ol Lover Boy phone-tapping Diana. Hardly a word from the pathetic MSM, and of course no criticism of Lover Boy for his phone-tapping. Now just imagine if Bush had done this – the howling and pontificating from the MSM would go on for weeks.
“While the conservatives like to paint that as some sort of Vast Left Wing Media Conspiracy, the truth of the matter is that we, the public, choose to watch and choose to buy negative news in bigger numbers than positive news.”
Nonsense. Maybe if you define “we the public” as “lefty idiots who consider anything right of CNN to be government propaganda”, but otherwise, you’re way off on this one. There IS a market for positive news as well, otherwise mil-blogs and blogs like Kate’s wouldn’t exist. The mainstream media simply don’t cater to that market. There’s numerous reasons for this, amongst them being the left-wing leanings of most people in the news and entertainment industries, and the unwillingnesses of news organizations to loose the large segment of the market which would boycott them for daring to publish “government propaganda”.
As I write this, CKNW with Bill Good is interviewing John Geddes of Mclean’s Magazine on SH’s Senator election proposal. Of course SH is totally wrong in this proposal because; wait for this; it should be all or nothing. Abolish the Senate or change the Constitution to fix it. Of course anyone alive today will not be around when this happens. There will be no interview of a SH supporter.
And Bill Good will tell his audience he is unbiased and not a Liberal patsy.
Of course if your a Left Liberal; what bias could I be carrying on about. This goes beyond the “If it bleeds, it leads” mantra. Negative stories carry the day if it’s “right wing” and positive is good if it’s Left Liberal.
