  1. “”The 2006 season will be a creeping threat,” said Bastardi.”
    What creeping threat?
    You Bastardi!

  2. -10 and a foot of snow in Vancouver in November. When is this global warming thing supposed to start?

  3. This is an El Niño year. That’s why the number of hurricanes is down and why the west is freezing while the east is golfing. It’s cyclical. Nothing to do with climate change.

  4. Great ‘Cane’ post Kate. IMO the biggest impact Blogs like yours can make in this ole world is calling(auditing)to task the wako “chicken littles” like Gore And Suzuki. The MSM would rather let the citizens be uninformed than kill a good story prematurly.

  5. But … but … the NOAA Climate Prediction Center says the Vancouver should be slightly warmer and slightly drier than average on El Niño.
At least we know for sure what’s going to happen 50 years from now.

  6. There’s Global Warming for you!’
`I don’t know what you mean by “Global Warming”,’ Alice said.
Humpty Dumpty smiled contemptuously. `Of course you don’t — till I tell you. I meant “there’s a nice knock-down argument for you!”‘
`But “Gloabal Warming” doesn’t mean “a nice knock-down argument”,’ Alice objected.
`When I use a word,’ Humpty Dumpty said, in rather a scornful tone, `it means just what I choose it to mean — neither more nor less.’
`The question is,’ said Alice, `whether you can make words mean so many different things.’
`The question is,’ said Humpty Dumpty, `which is to be master — that’s all.’

  7. Sleigh bells ring, are you listening,
In the lane, snow is glistening
    A beautiful sight,
    We’re happy tonight,
    Walking in a winter wonderland.
    Gone away is the bluebird,
Here to stay is a new bird
    He sings a love song,
    As we go along,
    Walking in a winter wonderland.
In the meadow we can build a snowman,
Then pretend that he is Parson Brown
    He’ll say: Are you married?
    We’ll say: No man,
But you can do the job
    When you’re in town.
    Later on, we’ll conspire,
As we dream by the fire
    To face unafraid,
    The plans that we’ve made,
    Walking in a winter wonderland.
In the meadow we can build a snowman,
And pretend that he’s a circus clown
We’ll have lots of fun with mister snowman,
Until the other kiddies knock him down.
When it snows, ain’t it thrilling,
Though your nose gets a chilling
We’ll frolic and play, the Eskimo way,
    Walking in a winter wonderland.

By Dick Smith & Felix Bernard, 1934. Personally, I like Mel Torme’s rendition best.

  8. Trust me this will all be explained….the wizard needs a little more time behind the curtain to make the facts fit the theory….just be patient.
As far as I can see there is a strnger correlation between sunspot cycles and the weather than there is between C02 levels.
We are at a sunspot minimum after a slightly above sunspt cycle. The prediction, and this they are pretty good at, is that the cycle will be even lower next time….so we now have a testable hypothesis, if the temperature goes down it is sunspots, if the temp keeps going up, then maybe there is something to this global warming thing…..My bet….its the 70’s all over again, flare pants, more snow and cooler temperatures….I look forward to being PROVEN wrong ( as opposed to hand waved and propogandized wrong)

  9. Stephen- I hope you are right, unfortunately I don’t think you are.
I think this is a rerun of the CFC/Ozone hole thing (only much bigger and slower). And we all know how that turned out.

  10. “…the CFC/Ozone hole thing”…”And we all know how that turned out.”: BS. …-
Volcanic Aerosol Clouds And Gases Lead To Ozone Destruction
Volcanic eruptions destroy ozone and create ‘mini-ozone holes’, according to two new studies by researchers at the Universities of Cambridge and Oxford. …-
    scirnce daily

  11. That ozone thing? You mean the “Oh my God the sky is breaking up” crisis of 20 years ago? The one the media finally bored of?

  12. It is -22C or 18 below zero F where I am. That is without the wind. I want gore and david to come and lecture us on global warming. Mother nature is having a fine time proving everyone wrong and telling us She is Boss. My sympathy to the families of our fallen soldiers.

  13. Thirty years ago it was a new ice age a-comin’
About, what, ten years ago it was global warming.
    NOW, it’s “climate change.”
They keep moving the goal posts every time things don’t match their fear-mongering.
The weather-man can’t nail a 5 day forecast half the time.
Why the hell should we believe Gore & Co. when they say that our world will be a desolate wasteland 50 years from now?
The best thing we can do is institute good, economically viable incentives to reduce pollution in the air and the water and really push for alternative energies. Nucular (GWB) and get this fusion thing happening at ITER in France.
We can afford to do it with our economies. The next step is to economically lift the 3rd and 2nd worlds into a place where they, too, can afford the processes necessary to have clean air and water.
Climate change? Pfff. It’s been happening for millenia and nothing we do is going to stop it. Such hubris.

  14. “The one the media finally bored of?”
The fact that it was a crisis isn’t really disputed. The CFC ban solved the problem although we’re still left with a fairly large hole in the Ozone layer over Antarctica.

  15. The overestimation of named storms is a result of global warming…as is everything that goes wrong.

  16. “Thirty years ago it was a new ice age a-comin’
About, what, ten years ago it was global warming.
    NOW, it’s “climate change.”
Global Warming and climate change are basicaly the same thing. As was the “greenhouse effect”. The hypothesis has been around for at least 30 years now.
But then the theory of evolution has been around for longer than that and we still have hundreds of millions who don’t believe dinosaurs ever walked the earth. And big suprise these are the same intellectual titans that tend to be poo poo the anthropogenic global warming as well.

  17. Climate change is real. Think about this for a second, purely no science to back it up…
There are these areas in the world that pump out massive quantities of co2, steam, warm air, and other byproducts into the atmosphere.
And, weather system patterns that for hundreds of years have travelled over the same area bringing predictable and ‘normal’ weather to an area are being affected by emmissions from factories and refineries.
So then a typical cold front approaching a large mass of co2, steam, and hot air from say the oil sands could possibly change or alter it’s course some, thus bringing seriously different weather.
If it can’t be argued that global “warming” is occurring, would it be ridiculous to say that our economic progress and indutrialization is causing global weather patterns to seriously alter?
Society and governments should work to minimize the effect of industrialization on our environment before its too late.

  18. More the usial iditic banter from the eco-freaks the sameones who predicted that the world would be so poluted that we would be wearing gas masks to go outside or that our cities would be under huge domes or as predicted by fools like PAUL EHRLICH that our coasts would be covered with dead fish and all that nonsnensne about WE HAVE ONLY TEN YEARS LEFT LEFT TO SAVE THE PLANET and they started blabbing that poppycock way back in 1970. I guess the number if hurricane were down becuase AL GORE kept his mouth shut most of the time and cut down on all that HOT AIR

  19. Hey Jose,
“…we still have hundreds of millions who don’t believe dinosaurs ever walked the earth.”
I call BS on you. We all believe that Ted Kennedy walked the earth. Now he mostly stumbles.

  20. Patrick – there’s a good feller. Go to school. Don’t worry about studying science just yet. Ask if they have a course in “logic”. Probably not yet – in fourth grade, but it’ll be real useful for you when you grow up.
You see, this whole global warming business was dreamed up by a bunch of blokes with real fancy computers. They didn’t get out much in the real world and measure temperatures, rainfall, river flows, etc,, like I do.
Sad to say, young Pat, there is no scientific evidence whatsoever to support claims that human activity is cotributing to climate change.
Regrettably, there is no consensus among scientists with any climatological or paleohydrological background that the climatic variations in recent years is even abnormal.
Not to worry, Pat. In 10 yeas time, we’ll all be laughing about this and how silly we feel.
No worries, mate, we’ll all say “no prob, you were pretty young at the time. You couldn’t be expected to know better.”

  21. Patrick,
    The climate is -always- changing.
What has more affect on our weather?
The Sun located 93 million miles away, or humans on this planet?
How often do you hear someone talk about “climate change” or “global warming” and they never, ever mention that massive uncontrolled nuclear reaction we call the Sun?
The fact that in 20 years we went from the hysteria of global cooling to the more profitable hysteria of global warming should speak volumes.
I’ll take scientific fact over “scientific consensus” anyday.

  22. “I’ll take scientific fact over “scientific consensus” anyday.”
    Amen!
The geologic column is replent with evidence of a wide varience in climatic conditions throughout the history of the earth.
There is even evidenct of glacial episodes in the early Proterozoic, when the earth was assumed to have still been *cooling* from the heat of accretion.
There is little to suggest that the climatic conditions observed since measurement by man began approaches a *norm* to be used for a claim of human influence on global warming.
In fact, if one were to approach the evidence in geologic history without an *agenda* one might see a trend toward numerous climatic periods of the past.
If one were able to ask the sailors returning their galleons full of silver and gold toward Spain in the 1600s about the hurricanes in the Keys they might tell you that, in comparison, the 2005 season was a piece of cake. A cyclic nature appears to be the *norm*.
One good Deccan Traps episode would change all of mankind’s appreciation about the impact that geologic processes can have on rapid climate change.

  23. It has been a *heavy* year for hurricanes (typhoons0 in the western Pacific, which was I believe predicted to be relatively calm this last season. In fact a typhoon is predicted to come ashore in the northern Philipines in the next few days.
“Global warming” I note is now so … yesterday. The party line has changed, and the MSM are now talking about “global climate change” and the “global climate crisis”. The solution is the same, however – to obtain “climate justice” we must wreck our economy and send billions to … some deserving people, such as Vladimir Putin’r Russia, or maybe to Kofi.

  24. Come on people, it takes 20 years for a theory to be proved or disproved. Think DDT and malaria. Now it is ok to spray. It is 20 years since global cooling was the current scare, and at least in the west we have it big time.

  25. I have done a multi-disciplinary analysis of the entire weather cycle from the Big Bang until now and ran copious quantities of differential data thru my hand-held, big number calculator and have definitely concluded that Sun is the source of all our weather problems. Any doubters can google ‘Victoria blizzard of 96’, Alberta floods of 2005 and 1995. I rest my case.
Actually the Universe doesn’t give a rat’s a$$ if we humans inhabit this planet or not. And there is no law stating that that humans should be so comfortable that whining, snivelling scientists can play games with the ill-informed population and MSM.
If you think about what these scientists are saying -the human global footprint is way too big- then you can only conclude that they are really saying that the earth needs, say 2 billion, less people. Gee, I wonder who would be in charge of deciding who stays and who goes, or who reproduces or who doesn’t.
Lemme guess, the global warming guys?

  26. Maybe we should start pumping out more greenhouse gasses in order to avert the next ice age.
Canada could lead the way with a new treaty called the …ummm…Nunavut Treaty. Countries that don’t expel enough CO2 into the atmosphere would have to buy CO2 debits from countries that put lots of CO2 into the atmosphere (Like Canada for example).
We could get David Suzuki his own jet to fly around on and scare people about the next ice age. (I’m sure he’d be up for it)

  27. Patrick,
“If it can’t be argued that global “warming” is occurring, would it be ridiculous to say that our economic progress and indutrialization is causing global weather patterns to seriously alter?”
    Yes.

  28. This just in!! Scientists (some kids down the block) have unearthed Huge Cadillacs that, judging by their size, were undoubtedly driven by wooly mammoths. This would explain the previous cycles of global warming. Every period of global warming was preceded by a period of Earthly inhabitants cruising around in gas guzzlers. This is proof positive that intellectual heavyweights such as Al Gore, Paul Martin, Jack Layton, and Pam Anderson are 100% correct that earthly animal activity is to blame for global warming.
None of the aforementioned could be reached for comment as they were flying around on their private jets.

  29. anyone who has ever visited the Royal Tyrell Museum in Drumheller knows that what the dinosaurs roamed Alberta back then it was all lush jungle

  30. Just wondering if one of you leftocrats could explain to me what caused all the other global warming incidents in the Earth’s history?
    (crickets chirping)
    (crickets again)

  31. “Just wondering if one of you leftocrats could explain to me what caused all the other global warming incidents in the Earth’s history?”
    Carbon credits weren’t invented yet?

  32. The global warming nut bars try to include everything to inflate every situation for there own agenda. The world will burn up thats the new one,8-10 C.or more. Theres no proof of course just beleve us; and buy carbon credits from the third world that should help to re-distribute wealth. Now thats what global warming is all about. They can’t forecast the weather yet they know all about climate change.See All Gort for more confusion on this.

  33. Do a little research-find out how much fossil fuels have been used in various years in recent history, how many vehicles produced, how many airline kms., changes in human population and see if you spot a trend. Then go to the NASA site and see just how less than infinite our atmosphere is. Then put the whole picture together to find that ever increasing consumption 24/7 365 days a year by an ever increasing population probably is having a serious effect on global warming.

  34. Mike Bray. Perhaps a course in critical thinking would be a good idea. I will try and help you in the interim.
    By example:
Do a little research-find out how many Liberal governments have been elected in various years in recent history, how many Quebec prime ministers, how many Ontario prime ministers, changes in human population and see if you spot a trend. Then go to the stats can site and see how many Canadians have been in outer space. It does not take a rocket scientist to figure out that global warming started about the same time that Liberals began governing Canada.
Coincidental events are not evidence of cause and effect. Have you ever considered the fact that increased sun spot activity has more to do with increased global temperatures? What caused previous global warming events?? – There were no vehicles burning fossil fuels several thousand years ago. ( I don’t think so anyway). The fact that Earth has gone through much more dramatic temp changes in the past would suggest that there are other factors beyond human causation that have brought about climate change.
When you have finished high school I would highly recommend that you take some critical and/or logical thinking courses (if they still teach them). Far too many people these days are all too willing to believe the David Suzukis (who I used to idolize and was one of the reasons for me getting my B. Sc in Biology) and Al Gores (who I have always thought was an uncharismatic moron).
I’m sure you have the best of intentions but there is far too much evidence that would seem to suggest that human caused global warming is only an invented means by which the governments of the world can cause fear in the naive and thus gain control of some more of our money.
Sorry for the long post. Just want you to be informed before you send all your money to some Nigerian money scam.

  35. Al Gore can blabber all this global warming poppycock while he can still run around the nationa and the world in his own priavte jet and limos and have his own private estate with his air conditioning and water everywhere what a hypotcrit

  36. One volcanic eruption does about the same damage that humans cause in a year. The planet has warmed and cooled for thousands of years and nothing we do at this point will have a noticeable impact on anything except our wallets. The so called “experts” do not know any more than we do.Computer models is simply “garbage in=garbage out”.View the whole thing as entertainment and you can learn to enjoy it too.
