  1. Go, Tony Snow! What a no-nonsense, tell it like it is–AND good looking, knowledgeable, humourous–guy. AND ON OUR SIDE!!
His lighthearted but lethal evisceration of the entitled MSM harpy, Helen Thomas’s, sclerotic, left-wingnut meanderings was a joy to behold!
    LOL good!

  2. Her voice reminds me of that episode on Seinfeld where Jerry, Elaine, George, and Kramer each decide to adopt and help out an elderly person.
Helen Thomas sounds exactly like Elaine’s lady with the goiter.

  3. Helen Thomas has actually achieved something in her life, being among the very first women ever to be allowed into the WH Press Corps when it was still an old boys network.
I believe she has earned the right to say crazy things once in a while. After all, she does not have the power to direct the army to go bomb somebody or to fire anybody.
What exactly have you achieved in your life, Kate, that allows you to pass judgement on those who have?

  4. Like Mark I also had seen it live, but the replay on video is delightful.
Slightly OT but Andrew Coyne deserves mention for his parting shot a pompous CBC saint Peter Mansbridge last night.
I honestly cannot recall anyone ever leveling a more deserved and straightforward parting shot directly at the biased twit – ever!
    Good on Andrew.

  5. Amused-At-SDA-Still – please itemize Helen’s achievements other than her status of geriatric journalist moonbat. I mean there is, by accidents of history often, a “first woman” for almost everything. And, that status should award her respect for life?

  6. Amused-At-SDA-Still,
Are you saying only those who have “achieved more” than another person may criticize that other person?
By what standards are we to measure this superior achievement? And who gets to decide whos foot gets cut or stretched to meet these standards?
If Kate had half the alphabet after her name in titles and degrees, would that make her intellect and greater or less? Or any of her conclusions any more or less rational?
(And I say this even though just a tad annoyed with Kate at the moment, for what I consider an inappropriate censoring of a follow up Comment of mine today.)
For my point of view, I don’t think that Helen Thomas having been one of the first women in the White House press corps (along with Wilma Flintstone?) entitles her to a d*mn thing.
With Helen Thomas, we’ve got an old woman, well past her intellectual prime-judging by her antics, who no longer works for any major news organization, taking advantage of the fact that nobody wants to look bad by ejecting her from the White House press pool, AS THEY SHOULD, to make room for an actual working journalist working for a actual news organization.

  7. Time to send Auntie Helen out to pasture. Somewhere she has forgotten that her job was to report the news not direct policy. That’s why they have elected people in office. Rumour has it she didn’t give Jefferson as hard a time as she is trying to do to Bush now.

  8. Perhaps the real Helen Thomas has been kidnapped and it’s really Osama in drag.

  9. Now, if she’s going to play the part, why not wear the uniform? Burqa up there Helen, and be right quick about it too, please.

  10. Tony is confused at what Helen is talking about and Helen is just plain confused.
Yes, there was a US veto on a UN draft resolution that would have called for an end to Israeli attacks and “disproportionate use of force” in the Gaza Strip as well as for the release of a kidnapped Israeli soldier.
The Security Council resolution received 10 votes, one against from the United States with four abstentions.
“Explaining his negative vote, US Ambassador John Bolton described the text as “unbalanced” and was “not only untimely but also outmoded” because of the attacks against Israel by Lebanese Hezbollah militants and UN chief Kofi Annan’s decision to send a crisis team to the region.”
Helen Thomas is seriously off her rocker. That was July 13th – one day after Hezbollah took two IDF hostage into Lebanon. A veto on a Gaza cease-fire resolution, has, or would have had nothing to do with Hezbollah and Israel firing missles and arty on a different front.
Had Tony Snow caught this brain-fade on Helen’s part, confusing Hamas and Hezbollah; he could’ve saved himself the frusrated hypothetical situation explaination and draw further attention to her mental instability, so far mistakenly diagnosed as crotchetiness.
I just hope she doesn’t still drive!

  11. Dave: “Are you saying only those who have ‘achieved more’ than another person may criticize that other person?”
No. I am saying that you need to have “achieved something”.
Being a White House reporter – especially for a woman 40+ years ago – is an achievement. It is the most coveted political reporting job in the US, and yes, Ms Thomas does need to do something else now.
Writing snarky comments on a website by linking to other snarky comments is not an achievement.

  12. “Actions are held to be good or bad, not on their own merits, but according to who does them. There is almost no kind of outrage—–torture, imprisonment without trial, assassination, the bombing of civilians—–which does not change its moral color when it is committed by ‘our’ side. . The nationalist not only does not disapprove of atrocities committed by his own side, he has a remarkable capacity for not even hearing about them.” —–George Orwell

  13. any of you people actually read her book ? or is this just more lock step repetition of the chorus ???
    hmmm ???
I bought the book 2 weeks ago and anticipate some insight into the mysteries of gleaning elements of truth from the white house.
what she is doing at this precise moment is immaterial and of no interest to me.

  14. I assume that when you wrote “passing judgement”, you meant my use of the phrase “American journalism’s crazy old aunt in the attic”.
If you had any familiarity with the American blogosphere, you’d know that particular phrase has been used for years to describe Helen Thomas in the Wall Street Journal’s “Best Of The Web”, each time she receives mention. Which is often.
    http://www.opinionjournal.com/best/?id=110008388
In the best tradition of the blogosphere, I have simply extended the meme. (As have any number of other bloggers.)
Now, luckily for you, you’ve been spared the discomfort of publicly linking your identity – and by extension, your “achievements” – to your demonstrated ignorance of the topic.
In the future, I would suggest you put that Carleton University computer to good use and brush up on those Google skills before “snarking” about my commentary or anyone elses.

  15. Why is this woman still a member of the White House press corps? “past her intellectual prime”? She’s suffering from dimentia and should be institutionalized. However she does provide some enternainment value to what can rather dry press conferences.

  16. Gee Kate – touchy, touchy!! I guess making fun of an elderly woman comes naturally, but being singled out is just not amusing, eh?
If you want to ban anonymous comments, do so. Otherwise, be quiet. I do not have to disclose my achievements – I am not out there pretending to have all the answers.
Finally, I am intrigued that you read the WSJ because I cannot remember a single post linking to anything from that venerable news organization. Even your economics post recently linked to Instapundit, who is a lawyer and knows SFA about economics.
A word of advice, however. The WSJ editorial pages (and its online version at OpinionJournal) – although somewhat better under Paul Gigot – is widely considered (by folks on the left, right and the Journal’s own reporters including Harwood, their Wash. Bureau Chief) to be just wacko nuts (think Ann Coulter, and multiply by 100).
So, for them to call anybody “crazy”, would actually be a compliment. Their news pages, however, are considered on par with the New York Times and the Washington Post in reliability and accuracy, especially when it comes to finance.

  17. anyone catch Crazy Uncle Jack Layton spewing about lack of organization.
how come no one questions how an extra 45000 Canadian citizens permanent residents of Lebanon now show up on the ” save my sorry a$$” list. layton was complaining there were no busses in south lebanon to pick them up.15000 in hezbollah territory.
    hezbollah will protect us!!!
uberhomo bill graham has been silent, he wanted them listed as a charity.
keith boag was wondering outloud why PMSH wont change his mind or the blame?

  18. The politically correct are never “amused.” They are some of the most humourless people around.

  19. “Why is this woman still a member of the White House press corps?”
Jon Lovitz is basing a new Subway Dinner Theatre commercial on her coutenance:
    “The UnRead…..”

  20. Hey Joe Molnar,
Could you elaborate on the Andrew Coyne shot at Mansbridge? I totally missed it. Any video anywhere?

  21. Still-Very-Amused-At-SDA,
So what do you take over there at “last chance U”?
My guess is sociology or something equally useless.
Carlton? Have you no shame? You may as well have gone to Lakehead…
As for links to Instapundit, I would assume you know what links are. Instapundit normally has many. Whatever he comments on is linked to the source. Just click, read, and be educated – you’ll learn more there than at Carlton.
As for his knowledge of economics, I’d say you’d learn more about eco from instapundit than you would learn whatever your own subject is from reading whatever you’ve put out (if anything.)
You may return to your third-rate education now.

  22. Hey Warwick, What’s wrong with Lakehead? I fondly yet barely recall those days of my youth or was it the purple Engineering Beer fridge and $.25 beer?
I see the trolls are out and in a particularly cocky mood as well. Insolent little whelps.

  23. Ahhhh yes, two bit LU Engineer’s beer. Back in the late 60’s and early 70’s the local beer rep would come by weekly to take orders for any university bash and would happen to drop off several cases of “samples”. $.25 ensured that the supply never got down and extra change for activities. I also remember the Engineer Cannon (unregistered) and Lady Godiva.
I often wonder what they do for fun now.

  24. mr warwick:
hmmm, lemme see, the kid graduated from carleton (note correct spelling) and is now making 50 grand a year doing web design for highly placed client.
me brudder graduated from lakehead in forestry management and now oversees programs attempting to deal with the BC infestation of pine bark beetle. the one we can thank the ndp regime at the time his collegues pointed out the hot spot in stanley park or wherever it was and pleaded to no avail to be allowed a surgical application of politically incorrect insecticide.
sorry about vague details, Im not into forestry management.
oh, p.s., carleton has the most advanced disabled accessibility facilities of any university in the country which is why she picked it. 50 grand sirrah, 50,000 canukistan bucks per year. what do you earn ??
so, any other swipes you wish to take at cdn universities ??

  25. This is the Bush White House press room. I suspect that the President has some imput into who gets access to that room. Pretty generous I would say of the President to allow her to still attend.
On the other hand it is remarkably cowardly that her fellow journo’s haven’t had the balls to insist she step down. Supporting her delusion is cruel at some point she has to face the fact that she is ill and must seek a change in her life.
Amused your just a lefty with neither the wit nor the moxy to compete with Kate. Don’t try you will only humiliate yourself.

  26. Helen Thomas & Hedgy Fry would make a good lesbian couplet. They both see things no one else does. But fail to see the realities surrounding them. Heck make it a quad with Maxine Waters & Barbara Walters.
All are mired in there political shells & can not grow or see no further than there increasingly radicalized politics.
Both are stuck in Fairyland with a tinker bell complex.
Besides they give Ugly & gullible new definitions.
As well all are consummate liars with distortion of truth as there banner to Utopia.
They hate children , especially breast feeding children. To them their just disposable tokens.
A sad lot. So sad I think for rapists & other male offenders of Womanhood, ought to be forced to watch the View consistently.
Is this too cruel & unusual a punishment? I leave it too you to decide.
