I’ve got a busy afternoon ahead, so you can entertain each other on this thread by directing readers to your own posts, or other items of interest.
An item at Debka;
All the world powers assembled in St. Petersburg for the G-8 summit agreed that Hizballah started the war as Tehran’s proxy terrorist arm. They picked up on the attitude of the US president, who is telling Israel: Let it run; but keep civilian casualties down and don’t kick too much Lebanese infrastructure.
Even Arab governments, which automatically fought any Israeli military action in the past, have formed a solid Sunni Muslim front, led by Saudi Arabia, which is content to watch the Shite Hizballah take a beating and the burgeoning Shiite assertiveness in the region squashed.
The Olmert government is eagerly exploiting this leisurely international climate to smash as much of Hizballah’s terror machine as he can before Washington holds up a stop sign. Monday, July 17, a clutch of would-be ceasefire brokers descended on Beirut and Jerusalem. None came with Bush’s nod, so they will not get very far.
Holland’s suicidal tendencies deepen; Dutch Court OKs ‘Pedophile’ Political Party

And if you have a good post you’d like to share, send it in Michael McCullough’s Trackback Tuesday.
Jeff notices that Canadian terrorism legislation is … well … regrettably Canadian. (Language advisory).

The stupidity of socialism in full bloom.
CAIR Canada has put out a press release calling for the guv to ban Franklin Graham from entering Canada because he called Islam evil.
Hmmm. We’ll let’s see. Moe was a pedophile. He married Aisha when she was 6 and consummated it when she turned 9.
He cut off the heads of 600 Jewish men after the battle of trench for the crime of not joining his terrorist army. Then he taught his thugs the finer points of rapine and unleashed them on the women and children. After that, he sold what was left of them into slavery.
When he finally won Mecca, he had the heads cut off of two poets because he didn’t like their poetry.
Sounds like the evil founder of an evil cult to me. Wonder how CAIR might argue against that.
Interesting point, Irwin.
I pointed out Moe’s marital history to a fundamentalist Muslim once. Told him, yes, there’s an English word for a man who has sex with a 9 year old girl. The word begins with a P, but it ISN’T Prophet.
The man flushed deep red…I thought he was going to slug me…I just stood there, calmly looking at him. He turned around and walked away.
Here is the story of a street chase and a firefight with terrorists who, while attempting to escape, opened fire on a school yard.

They try not to think about it. They prefer to dwell on better moments, the good times with friends. But some memories take on a life of their own. And that’s what they’ll be bringing home.
“It’s one of those things I will never forget,” said U.S. Army Lt. Adrian Veseth-Nelson, 24, standing on the sprawling Camp Liberty military base near Bagdhad. “Whether I want to or not.”

Over the next week, about 3,500 members of the 10th Mountain Division’s 1st Brigade, will return home after one full year at war. Since last August, soldiers have run nonstop missions in and around Baghdad.
IAF again drops leaflets on Lebanon
AP
IDF officials said Tuesday that IAF aircraft were dropping leaflets on southern Lebanon warning residents to flee the area ahead of an impending attack.
The IDF has routinely dropped leaflets over the past week warning civilians to evacuate the area. Brig. Gen. Miri Regev, the army’s chief spokeswoman, told Israel’s Channel 2 that aircraft had again dropped the leaflets Tuesday afternoon. She spoke soon after a new barrage of rockets fired by Hezbollah guerrillas in southern Lebanon killed an Israeli in the northern town of Nahariya. via free republic
Hello, all. Congratulations Kate on +3 million hits.
In the rare times that I post, I think that you’ll find me wry and sarcastic. Perhaps even provocative.
Like the comments folowing this excerpt:
“Last spring, Ayaan Hirsi Ali took her ‘Dutch mother’ — the woman who taught her the language and cared for her after she arrived in the Netherlands as a refugee in 1992 — to lunch at the Dudok brasserie, near the Parliament in The Hague. As always, Hirsi Ali’s armed security detail was there (…) That day at the Dudok, several dozen vocational students were taking up the main restaurant, so she and her guards parked at two tables near the bar. Hirsi Ali had her back to the restaurant when one of the students, apparently a Dutch convert to Islam, tapped her on the shoulder. ‘I turned around,’ she recalls in her elegant English, ‘and saw this sweet, young Dutch guy, about 24 years old. With freckles! And he was like, “Madam, I hope the mujahedeen get you and kill you.” ‘ Hirsi Ali handed him her knife and told him, ‘Why don’t you do it yourself?'”

I think that Wahabbi imams and Wahabbi terrorists view Dutch society as weak because of legislation and court iterpretations that enable things such as infant euthanasia, ‘pro-pedophillia’ political movements, etc. I hope that Dutch society has enough will left to fight back for democracy and equal rights for all citizens.
I wonder sometimes whether our ‘progressives’ such as “UnitedNationsneutralsam” and “Rahbert McBlahg” would rather confront “rednecked rubes from the Bible Belt” (Conservatives and their supporters), or “kafiyeh-necked tribalists with Shaheed Belts” (al Qaida and their supporters).
Interesting reading the Comment from jwkozak91. Ah, the “Religion of Peace”…What enlightenment it’s adherents display!
Regarding the proteinwisdom article, it is SICKENING that Canada wants to retain her status as friendly “terrortory”. Terrorist fund-raising, “business” dealings, and politicking must comprise 20% of the Canadian GDP or something. Dangerous path to tread, my friends.
Newly founded ‘Army of Suicide Bombers’ marches in Gaza
By Avi Issacharoff
About 100 veiled and heavily armed Palestinian women marched through the streets of Gaza City Tuesday.
The militant women belong to a unit recently founded by the Popular Resistance Committees. The ‘Army of Suicidal Bombers,’ as it is dubbed, consists entirely of women.
A message released by the PRC states that the objective of the new unit is to protect “Palestinian land.”
The procession was led by the mother of Abu Yusuf Al-Kuka – a PRC founder assassinated by Israel two months ago. She was carrying an RPG missile launcher on her shoulder.
A spokeswoman for the unit said that the ASB was founded in order “to aid the men in their war against the enemy.”
The militant women burned Israeli, U.S., British, and EU flags.
In an unprecedented step they also defaced an Arab League flag, which they then proceeded to set ablaze.
I love how the author calls them “militants” even though their group is called the Army of Suicide Bombers.
Who are you going to believe – the journalist, or your lying eyes?
Seems the ladies are “dying” to explode; they’re even mad at the Arab League.
Question: do they get 72 white grapes as the men do, or do they get 72 smelly, hairy guys named Mohammed?
take a mo’. . have a laugh

Flood of Liberals Crossing the Border Into Canada
Sunday, July 16, 2006
Editor: This just came in over the transom. It was so good we decided to post it, with apologies to the Toronto Times, or whoeere wrote it.
The flood of American liberals sneaking across the border into Canada has intensified in the past week, sparking calls for increased patrols to stop the illegal immigration.
The unflinching arrogance of the Bush Administration is prompting the exodus among liberal citizens who fear they’ll soon be required to hunt, pray, and agree with Bill O’Reilly.
Canadian border farmers say it’s not uncommon to see dozens of Sociology professors, animal-rights activists, and Unitarians crossing their fields at night. “I went out to milk the cows the other day, and there was a Hollywood producer huddled in the barn,” said Manitoba farmer Red Greenfield, whose acreage borders North Dakota. The producer was cold, exhausted and hungry.
“He asked me if I could spare a latte and some free-range chicken. When I said I didn’t have any, he left. Didn’t even get a chance to show him my screenplay.”
In an effort to stop the illegal aliens, Greenfield erected higher fences, but the liberals scaled them. So he tried installing speakers that blare Rush Limbaugh across the fields. “Not real effective,” he said. “The liberals still got through, and Rush annoyed the cows so much they wouldn’t give milk”
Officials are particularly concerned about smugglers who meet liberals near the Canadian border, pack them into Volvo station wagons, drive them across the border and leave them to fend for themselves. “A lot of these people are not prepared for rugged conditions,” an Ontario border patrolman said.
“I found one carload without a drop of drinking water. They did have a pleasant little Napa Valley cabernet, though.”
When liberals are caught, they’re sent back across the border, often wailing loudly that they fear retribution from conservatives. Rumors have been circulating about the Bush administration establishing re-education camps in which liberals will be forced to drink domestic beer and watch NASCAR.
Liberals have turned to sometimes-ingenious ways of crossing the border. Some have taken to posing as senior citizens on bus trips to buy cheap Canadian prescription drugs. After catching a half-dozen young vegans disguised in powdered wigs, Canadian immigration authorities began stopping buses and quizzing the supposed senior-citizen passengers.
“If they can’t identify the accordion player on The Lawrence Welk Show, we get suspicious about their age,” an official said.
Canadian citizens have complained that the illegal immigrants are creating an organic-broccoli shortage and renting all the good Susan Sarandon movies.
“I feel sorry for American liberals, but the Canadian economy just can’t support them,” an Ottawa resident said. “How many art-history majors does one country need?”
In an effort to ease tensions between the United States and Canada, Vice President Dick Cheney met with the Canadian ambassador and pledged that the administration would take steps to reassure liberals, a source close to Cheney said. “We’re going to have some Peter, Paul & Mary concerts. And we might put some endangered species on postage stamps. The president is determined to reach out.”
“This was how the inquiry was conducted.
Embarassing evidence was written out of existence. (Thomas) Sophonow’s word was taken as gospel. And contradictory evidence had to be twisted or dismissed even if it meant that honest men were smeared.
And it was done without challenge by the news media. Not one reporter brought up Cst. Black’s evidence. Not one disputed the railroading of Wawryk and Paulishyn.
(Winnipeg Sun columnist Tom) Brodbeck wants to prosecute the police and Crown attorneys who sent Sophonow to jail. But he can’t see the fallacy of his deluded reasoning.
The Cory Inquiry was held in a carefully constructed cocoon where the conclusion was reached first and the “evidence” to support it was collected afterward.
In any true court proceeding, the evidence would not be restricted by a political edict. Sophonow would get an extremely rough ride if he testified under oath at such a hearing, and evidence which might contradict his exoneration by Ewatski would be introduced, and that could prove embarassing to a lot of people.
In fact, we might even learn more about a piece of “crucial evidence” that Judge Cory carefully kept out of his report.
Testifying at the Inquiry Nov. 7, 2000, Sophonow made a startling admission. To our knowledge, it was repeated only by one reporter, David Roberts of the Globe and Mail, although another reporter confirmed the accuracy of his account to us…”

Re: Irwin Daisy at July 18, 2006 12:12 PM
In contrast, the Ben-Gurion government let some of the Arabs stay behind in northern Israel after 1948 – as long as they pleged loyalty to the new state. Many Israeli Arabs have served in the IDF, some becoming officers.
Saudi Arabia is 99% Muslim. Israel (1967 borders) is 18.5% Arab (May 2006 census, Wikipedia).
The tolerance of one versus the tolerance of the other.
Irwin Daisy would better serve humanity by jumping off a bridge.
Sorry I had to stoop to ‘its’ level.
Seems I offended ‘J’, a crime which according to him/her calls for death. Mohammad couldn’t have come up with a better punishment himself. Take a bow J.
I’ll probably get beat up good for this, but it is to good a line to hold back on!
Re: the pedophile party in Holland, it gives a whole new meaning to going dutch.
Having said that, and I may wish I didn’t, it never ceases to amaze what people think they can get away with in pushing the boundaries of liberalism. How could some one have the brazenness to even think this up. The only answer I can even think of that would approach reason would be a sting by the Dutch police to entice pedophiles in that country to identify themselves.
Or rather, take a number of bows ‘J’.
Make sure you’re facing Mecca and don’t forget to touch your nose to the ground.
The new Islamic government in Sudan has stated that the punishment for not praying five times a day is death.
From ynetnews:
The IDF has found that Hizbullah is preventing civilians from leaving villages in southern Lebanon. Roadblocks have been set up outside some of the villages to prevent residents from leaving, while in other villages Hizbullah is preventing UN representatives from entering, who are trying to help residents leave. In two villages, exchanges of fire between residents and Hizbullah have broken out.
I’ve heard the talking point in the media that Harper has been slow to respond in getting Canadians evacuated from Lebanon.
Remember this?

Ahmadinejad Promises “Rejoicing”
This doesn’t sound good at all: Ahmadinejad promises Muslims will ‘rejoice’ soon. (Hat tip: Ayatollah Ghilmeini.)
Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad on Tuesday promised a “rejoicing” for Muslims in the Middle East “soon,” the Islamic Republic News Agency reported.
Speaking to university officials in the town of Mashhad, Ahmadinejad said the “volcano of rage” at the “arrogant powers” was “on the verge of eruption.”
Referring to escalating violence in Lebanon and northern Israel, he was quoted as saying, “The Zionists themselves have realized that they have launched a risky move and are aware that the flame of the fury of the regional states will set them ablaze.”

cal2:
Bill Graham is now criticizing the Harper govt. for being “too quick” to side with Israel and “too slow” in helping Canadians of Lebanese extraction.
Perhaps it is worth noting that you can’t land 40 year Hercules aircraft on bomb cratered tarmac.
Maybe if those C17 Galaxy’s were already delivered we wouldn’t have a phantom strategic lift capacity.
Further, apparently aircraft don’t fly too well when they are encumbered by Katyusha rockets impaling the wing spars.
So far I don’t see our brave Canadian Forces aircraft personnel volunteering for suicide missions unlike the Hamas and Hezbollah advocates.
Thanks for that helpful criticism Bill, but if we had moved off the defence budget dime a little sooner perhaps our illustrious forces could properly do their jobs instead of having their hands tied firmly behind their backs.

THE GOVERNMENT’S No. 1 JOB
Securing the Military Options It Needs to Protect Canadians
An Interim Report by the Senate Committee on National Security and Defence
June 2006
Perhaps if we had accurately been maintaining and expanded the capacity to respond to international crises over the last 13 years we wouldn’t have to listen to these ill considered comments.
Per Jack Granatstein:
http://www.ccs21.org/articles/granatstein/2006/jlg_30_jun_Paper_Promises.htm
Still, it’s good news tonight. The one caveat is that Canadians have been promised military goodies in the past and seen contracts ripped up before. The infamous EH-101 Cormorant helicopter deal, tossed aside by Jean Chrétien in his first days in office in 1993, is the most recent example of partisanship trumping defence needs. Paper promises do not always translate into boots on the ground, ships at sea, or aircraft overhead. It could happen again, not least because the Conservative government is in a minority position with all three Opposition parties soft on defence. Former Defence minister Bill Graham would likely say that he isn’t, and there is some justice in that. In his tenure much of the planning for the present purchases was done, and he deserves credit for his work in pressing the Martin government to begin to REPAIR THE WRECKAGE of the Canadian Forces. It is equally true, however, that NOT ONE
CONTRACT was let by the Liberals for any of the equipment the Conservatives announced plans to buy. Every indication suggests that this government actually intends to do what it says.
So hallelujah and hosannas. There will be a long wait for even the first elements of new equipment to come into service, but Canadian Forces morale will rise simply as a result of the announcements. WITHIN FIVE YEARS, the military will be able to respond better to domestic and international crises than at any time in the last half-century.
Of course when you need the fast paced reponse then you have to go on the open market to CHARTER a reponse; because as we have found some Canadians don’t have FIVE (5) YEARS to wait.
I am sorry Bill Graham but that kind of fascile criticism simply won’t cut any Artic ice with me.
Strap it on:
But you never call! What set of bushes will it be this week?
maz2:
Who is taking bets that the North Koreans have supplied Iran with a nuclear warhead for delivery on August 22 the day of “Thunder and Lightning”?
Just a hunch that not a few have “gone over to the dark side”.
Per Ahmahdinejad above:
“volcano of rage” at the “arrogant powers” was “on the verge of eruption.”
“the flame of the fury of the regional states will set them ablaze.”
Not that I support NAMBLA or anything, but a party democratically advocating a change in laws (specifically lowering the age of consent) isn’t something to be afraid of. Denying people the right to democratically change the laws in a political process is scarier than letting 3 pedophiles organize their nuttiness. Again, wouldn’t vote for them, but what they are doing is political.
Feisty, how do substantiate that it is politcal, they are doing it because they can, no other reason. They are thumbing their nose at all of us, including people who think it is okay because it is “political” That is a load of crap. I know it’s wrong, you know it’s wrong, hell, even they know it’s wrong.
Great post Fred — LOL.
I know there’s a fair number of Arabs serving and having served in the IDF, including, at one point, a Brigadier General. Interestingly, he was Bedouin and, if I understand correctly, the Bedouin and the Palestinians have a long history of animosity — just one more spice to add to the ME stew. I also read the story that said the two captured Israelis weren’t Jewish but Druze — three guesses how that’s going to play in southern Lebanon.
Now for something completely different — for all you literati out there, check out this year’s winners of the Bulwer-Lytton contest (best first lines to the worst novels never written), and for a real hoot, check out the “McGonagall” link — widely reputed to be the worst poet in the English language if not the entire world.
Re the New York Slimes
They, like so many MSM papers have been nothing but a horrendous waste of perfectly good oxygen producing trees.
Good riddance to those cut and looking forward to a complete bankrupty ASAP
Canada is such a freaking mess.
Hezbollah has been demanding for a long time that Israel return captured Lebanese. So, in retaliation, Hizbollah captures theirs. And Israel (armed with American weapons) deems it necessary to unleash havoc on the Lebanese.
So the average Lebanese citizen has to suffer, at least that’s what many on this site seem to imply. Then I suppose, you can take it both ways when the rockets rain down on Israel.
I could care less who arms Hezbollah because the US arms Israel. So what?
Oh yeah…Irwin: you really are useless.

A DUBIOUS ‘DISTRACTION’
WHAT IRAN, SYRIA, HEZBOLLAH WANTED
by Amir Taheri
New York Post
July 18, 2006
July 18, 2006 — ‘WHEN nothing else works, there is always Israel”: So the late Egyptian journalist Lutfi al-Khuli liked to describe the motto of Arab radicalism decades ago.
The analysis was apt, because Arab obsession with Israel did work on countless occasions. Despots used Israel as an excuse for their brutal rule. Corrupt leaders adopted anti-Israeli rhetoric as a diversion from their misdeeds. Confused intellectuals used Israel as an object of hate to hide their ineptitude.
So what, j? So you’re an ignorant fool.
What’s your thesis? What FACTS and clear explanations have you bothered to provide to defend it? You get a failing grade for an incoherent, but obviously biased, post.
j – you’re as dumb as mud.
“captured Lebanese”? Now, just what would those Lebanese be doing to get themselves in an Israeli jail? Were they tourists on Israeli beaches, numbskull?
And, you freak, the missiles lobbed into Israeli homes the past 5 months by Hezbollah weren’t suffering?
Arabs, Svend, Bill Graham. the first one doesnt need the age of consent dropped. the last two drop their pants without consent.
cal2 LOVE IT
I have to h/t the letter writer to O’Reilly….
If Hamas and Hezbollah disarm, peace settles in.
If Israel disarms, the Jews are slaughtered.
Can you grasp that J?

I seem to have been cut off during the 3,000,000 mark on the odometer (byproduct of a spirited exchange regarding the propogation of electricity, light, etc, see below). who got it and when ??
anyway, bill graham is the biggest wuss Ive ever seen in canadian cabinet. left to him meyer arar would STILL be in syrian jail or dead.
dutch euthenasia: twas a bit in the local rag on this same subject and by amazing coincidence the loudmouth know-it-all at work defended the practice. hhhhh…. but, but, but the newspaper report cited THOUSANDS of cases where the euthenasia had been FORCED on the victim (redrum !!! redrum !!!) and other highly questionable specifics. I rooted thru the recycle box and tore out said piece in order to SHOVE it in the liberal’s face and watch him squirm.
sadly he pissed of one of the maintenace crew so bad a scuffle took place that day and they were both sent home, him permanently.
arabs, sven, bill graham: LOL !!! my favorite appraoch to political humor: mix in a portion of TRUTH.
nukes pointed @ Israel: in this case, I would support deployment of some sort of variation of star wars; some lightning fast computer automated response system against incoming missiles. thousands of SAMS all over Israel aimed in all directions.
why the apparent contradiction ???
apparent and perceived risk justifies it; the form of attack against Israel points hugely to missile delivery; Israel has miniscule entry points and anything big enough to be a ‘Bomb’ aint coming in on the back of a flatbed unnoticed, unlike great us of a with millions of shipping containers every year.
the heightened likelihood then of missile borne attack against tiny Israel and the proximity dictating response down to scant minutes translates into automated, ie computer based defence.
there. see ??? Im not totally against it purely on ideological grounds, I just dont buy the speil that it is going to be foolproof over an area the size of continental usa. as shown in the cutesy confidence-building animations.
for Israel, it would be worth the expense. insurance is always indicated with increased risk.
hezbollah road blocks: their tactics quickly become evident; when the palestinianists run out of suiciders, they ‘recruit’ unwilling citizens in the vicinity to act as human shields.
the truth will out, the truth will out.
anti-terrorism legislation ? what a fukin joke.
it shows you cant judge a nation by its leadership. I dont know why that is, what it is about the political animal that gets so distant from the true sympathies and needs of the people, but this is worse than useless because now it stands in the way of something effective.
kinda like alan rock’s farcical and fatal gun legislation.
Anyone else notice that Lebanese PM Fouad Siniora has that Chretien-like crooked mouth thing happening?
Coincidence, right?
What would the court say if a party that advocated human slaughter and cannibalism wanted to organize and try to change the current laws? I don’t really see from a logical standpoint where this judge would deny a cannibal party either.
I’ve only got a few words to say that sum up what I think people have to prove to have a sexual relationship: all involved should be consenting adults.
Canada doesn’t want to offend the delicate sensitivities of the terrorists by watching them or restricting their access to kill us.
Kyla:
I think pretty much everyone here agrees with you that lowering the age of consent to 12 is a bad thing. I’ve got a 12-year old daughter, and I don’t want to think about her having sex with a boy, let alone a man, until she’s at least in university.
But I have to repeat myself: the goal of classic liberalism (as opposed to the stained “liberalism” of the current left) is to let all ideas see the light of day, in the firm and steadfast belief that complete exposure will reveal the wrongs and idiocies of some ideas, and confirm the correctness of others. Even in the political climate of Canada in 2006, I’m pretty confident that the vast (90%?) majority of voters would come down against this disgusting concept.
I know it’s hard to have faith in your fellow citizens at times, but on this issue, I think it’s warranted.
“I know it’s hard to have faith in your fellow citizens at times, but on this issue, I think it’s warranted.”
Noble thinking. What happens when a “court”, you didn’t elect, thinks else wise?
You can have faith that the EV-1 Electric car is no phantom.. Finally found the photo of same and it looks quite elegant too.
