Or maybe it’s just a problem with short term memory. “Molarmauler” looks at three days in the life of forest products company Tembec, Inc in the context of G&M coverage of the softwood lumber deal;
A first-timer looking at these numbers would be so unimpressed. Tembec only 2.63% higher. What a disappointment. After all that hard work by Mr. Harper and company.
Too bad Tembec is levelling out at 22% higher than it was on Wednesday when rumors of an announcement were rumbling. Must be rough on those who thought to buy stock in lumber companies when Mr. Emerson crossed the floor.
Because God knows, the Globe & Mail wouldn’t be party to the type of reporting that cherry-picks or buries data to suit an existing script.

“Because God knows, the Globe & Mail wouldn’t be party to the type of reporting that cherry-picks or buries data to suit an existing script.”
Possibly true. I don’t read the Globe and Mail.
I do know though that SDA cherry picks to suit her script. Take a look at the “This Is The Voice Of The Cannabis “Culture”” and note the insane insinuations SDA makes.
What would be really refreshing is that all individuals debating anything or putting forth any particular point of view admit to their own prejudices and admit that as far as basic premises go, they may not be consistent.
I’m grateful to molarmauler for his “Dummies’ Guide” to the Softwood Lumber Deal According to the Probe and Fail Dissers. What charlatans, and the maddening thing is that most Canadians will be none the wiser: They’ll eat up and digest the bogus stats, washed down by the swill served up by the CBC/The National.
One huge job ahead of the CPC is to awaken the great Canadian sleeping giant. We’ve been on SNOOZE BUTTON for the last, at least, 35–almost 40–years, and it’s time to wake up, get up, and go to work.
Oh, and one more thing:
Ian Scott posted this (May 1, 2006 03:09 AM):

Kate has never NOT been clear about where she’s coming from. Her blog site states that “[she has]been forced to listen while media and politicians alike have told [her]’what Canadians think’,” and then she says, “[They] don’t speak for me.” She’s never been ambiguous about what she thinks of the left-lib bias of the MSM.
Ian, what are you talking about? How do you propose that Kate be any clearer?
Thankfully nobody reads the Mop and Pail for investment news.
Ian Scott. You want all individuals to admit to their own prejudice. Do you want the same from the MSM?
This is the same Tembec that today is trading for $1.75? The same Tembec that only a year ago traded over $4? The same Tembec that only a year before that was about $11? Yeah, Emerson has done wonders with this deal.
Yeah Todd, the Liberals really hosed that industry over with their inaction. And you are laying numbers from 1 and 4 years ago at Emerson’s feet how?
Irrespective, the deal is good news for the industry and the Globe was being partisan.
Well, lumber stocks have been all over the place lately. The variation over a single day lately has been huge. Despite the softwood lumber deal, we’re talking about a company that has declining revenues, and significant losses. The softwood lumber agreement doesn’t increase demand for pulp & paper, or lower energy costs.
This is a Tembec poll; from Silly Service City, aka Ottawa.

Ian probably doesn’t have prejudices, only “enlightenment”.
I’m not laying this at Emerson’s feet at all. I’m just saying that this deal is not poised to bring the forestry industry back to where it was. Both the Liberals and the Conservatives have failed at that. To be honest though, I don’t think the Conservatives could have done any better. When you have an 800 lb gorilla that is willing to use their weight and unwilligness to play fairly, what can you do? I guess you just lay down and let the gorilla sit ontop of you.
Is the gorilla Todd referring to the BC Ministry of Forests?-sarc-
Because I am pretty sure the USA, in regards to Canada, is usually referred to as an elephant.
It is so hard to keep all the animals in the left-wingers political landscape straight.
Or maybe he is referring to Pres. G.W. Bush. otherwise known to dippers as Pres. Scary-Chimp-Harper.-sarc-
After the media started to broadcast the inaccurate so called leaks and incorrect details about the softwood deal – helped along by an embarassing outburst based on fallacy instead of fact by Bill Graham and then an equally childish tantrum by Layton and a few talking heads who had no facts whatsoever the stock market for softwood lumber companies fell.
When the details were then released through the proper channels – truth and facts, not secret memo sources close to blah blah that the media still thinks is newsworthy – the stock market rose by 17% on Friday alone.
The fabrications, misrepresentations and outright lies by the media and the opposition for partisan purposes, ego, and self serving bias has caused immense losses to investers and they should be held accountable.
As I’ve said before, my dad is Maintanence superintendant for a Mill in BC. His boss is tickled pink about the deal. Since you can’t get a more inside scoop than talking to the Owner of a medium sized mill, when he’s happy the rest of us should accept yes for an answer.
As for quoting a snapshot price for tembec’s stock and crowing about it being down, I had a look-see at http://WWW.tsx.ca and did a search for TBC (tembec’s stock symbol). I was able to pull a five year chart showing Tembec’s stock falling gradually and more or less evenly over five years, bottoming out January 06, and beginning to climb from about a buck in January (election day)and continuing to climb to present day. This is real hard data, not a snapshot that has no real bearing on the real trend.
Check the pulp and paper industry in the states. Consolidation and layoffs. Getting a deal on softwood now is a major deal.
Exactly technophile. So instead of looking at what the share prices are now, a week after a deal, lets look what they are a few years out. A week means nothing in stock price terms. So let’s see if this deal takes the share prices and profitability of the companies back to pre-American gouging days.
Darn. Ralph’s getting out too early: the “ceremonial” is just getting underway. $

Canada to play “ceremonial” role at UN negotiations

New Kid:
“Kate has never NOT been clear about where she’s coming from. ”
Incorrect. She holds others to a standard which includes truth, but she picks and chooses her own “version.” She claims to desire “freedom” yet when it comes to her own projective thoughts, she in fact appears to support statism.
If you can’t stay on topic Ian, go home to your own blog.
I did stay on topic, and then responded to another person’s comment on my first comment. That’s not allowed here? Your “…that cherry-picks or buries data to suit an existing script.” was quite the generalization, isn’t it?
I didn’t ask for your opinion nor am I going to discuss it with you. Either stick to the topic of the post or leave.
