Blasts at an Egyptian resort, with dozens already reported dead.
James Joyner notes the timing;
One presumes this is the work of al Qaeda, especially in light of yesterdays release of a tape by Osama bin Laden promising to ratchet up the murdering in moderate Muslim societies.
Big Pharoah reports from Egypt that he’s ok.

Those darn Mormons.
Now lets not prejudge…no profiling allowed remember……there is no proof yet that there was anyone there from Salt Lake City…
(tongue in cheek)
Okay, must be those pesky Christian Crusaders. Isn’t that politically correct now?
so rather than “profiling” anyone wanna bet on this being MoM violence ??
’tis the religion of peace afterall
Seems more like the religion of pieces to me!
Fred said “so rather than “profiling” anyone wanna bet on this being MoM violence ??”
It’s not my mom, she was at home making borscht. Maybe it was your mom.
P.S. My dad is bigger than your dad.
I think these guys may just be wound up with a lot of sexual tension. I mean what’s so great about virgins? Ever had a really good time with a Virgin? I don’t think so.
They might be a lot more relaxed if they tried getting it on with a really hot red blooded Western slut who really knows how to have a good time.
Hey, we have to be creative if we are ever going to get these people to stop blowing up stuff.
At least 90 innocent people dead (according to latest reports) and you guys won’t to make locker-room jokes about Muslims. 90 live human beings, folks, whose families won’t ever see them again. Kids who won’t see their parent, parents who won’t ever see their kids again. Cripes. Even the usual “blame it on liberals” crap is better than this. Sorry to be a downer at this party, but I can’t believe what I’m reading here.

“want” not “won’t”
Hey, I’m all for someone getting serious about the problem.
Trouble is when someone does get serious about, people call for his impeachment.
So we may as well all treat it like a joke. Like the rest of the jokers.
What’s with the “90” deaths in the headline on James Joyner’s site? It even links to the CNN story references 10 deaths. The Israeli website says 30.
Not trying to downplay anything but “90” seems to be way out of whack with what is being reported elsewhere.
“22” deaths reported at MSNBC
I suspect it’s emotional numbness. We watch endless reports of Muslims killing Muslims, meanwhile ranting about The Crusaders, and it gets more and more difficult to care. It’s probably nothing to be proud of, but that’s what happens.
BTW, about that eternity with virgins thing: that’s pretty much what high school seemed like.
“Retired General Salah al-Din Salim, an Egyptian researcher at the Strategic Studies Institute in Cairo, said that it could not be ruled out that the Israeli Mossad was involved in the terror attack in Dahab.”
OK, tomorrow they’ll start blaming it on Bush…
Nothing in the Kuwait Times, Yemen Times or Dawn, or Kashmir Times. CTV says 22 dead dozens injured. Toll sure to climb once all the bodies are counted. Probably blame the coptics.
Notice how most of the victims of Bin Laden’s (or his surrogates) war against the Crusaders are mostly MUSLIMS!! Islamofascists are a threat to humankind period – Muslim, Christian, Druid, you name it. They seek to enslave the world in their anti-modern medieval crusade where women are nothing but chattels of men and children have no right to education (or flying kites). How the left romanticizes these totalitarian bigots is frankly beyond me. I guess it’s easier to mantracize “Oil” and therefore blame it on George Bush. To my friends on the left (ie- Bush bad crowd), you are providing the Islamofascist with a warm and fuzzy feeling. They know they can’t defeat us without the help of the West hate thyself crowd. It’s easier to think of Bush as evil instead of the obvious haters and killers. What did Bin Laden say today in his latest rant? That cutting off funding to Hamas (you know the organization dedicated to the violent bloody elimination of Israel) is proof of a “Zionist Crusader conspiracy.” Oh that’s right, bin Laden is simply the manifestation of ME poverty and US foreign policy. That’s a good reason to send foreigners into Iraq and Afghanistan to kill Muslims at a rate that would make Saddam blush. Remember those poor displaced Saudis who flew planes into the WTC? Wait a minute, they were middle or upper class? Never mind. I’ve noticed the ME leadership has provided a real nice life for their citizens. NOT!! How dare we victimize those poor countries by paying $74 US/bbl for oil that costs $5/bbl to pump out. The emirs get rich off their people and then fund sick-minded immans to raise their people in hatred of Jews (worry sons of pigs and monkeys), who in no way represent religion in any sense, who have clear political objectives of their own – enslave their world in a medieval caliphate where, of course, they are the wise men. Bin Laden can’t wait to get hold of some WMD (likely radiological device) so he can up the ante to the use of strategic weapons in some sort of “cleansing” (read kill all the infidels which includes the “wrong” sort of Muslims)holy war where we can truly go back to the stone age. I’m tired of the moral cowardice of those who defend this nutbar. Oh yeah, it’s Dubya’s fault.
Ted, I don’t think any of the posters were minimizing what happened today in Egypt. I viewed the comments in the appropriate spirit of anticipating and ridiculing the lame leftist’s typical response of root causes and symmetry or lack thereof.
Muslims should be mocked in the locker room until THEY change. They should be mocked everywhere until they reform.
watch the language, please.
Penny:
That’s a load of crock. I’m sorry but the “appropriate spirit of anticipating and ridiculing the lame leftist’s typical response of root causes and symmetry or lack thereof” is a very weak excuse for making fun of 90 or so dead, likely moderate Muslims. Especially as the immediate and first reaction to the news.
Egypt may be run by a dictatorship (a pretty incompetent one at that), but last time I checked it was a pretty moderate Muslim state. That would be why Al-Quaeda attacked there (if indeed it was Al-Quada: there have been lots of deaths by different fundamentalist groups in Egypt before now). These would be innocent civilian Muslims who need us to support them as much as possible in there struggle against increasingly violent and increasingly organized fundamentalist murderers; not locked in a locker room or mocked. What exactly do they need to change, the ones that are now dead?
(BTW, the “90 deaths”: I got a CNN Breaking News Alert updating the death toll to 90. It sometimes takes a while for the text report to catch up to the alert. Unfortunately you can’t link to an alert, but the text of the email notification was: “– More than 90 people reported killed or injured in 3 explosions in town of Dahab, an Egyptian Interior Ministry official told CNN.”)

“their” not “there”. I should do more proofreading.
Let me refine my comment, Ted. Islam should be mocked by every decent person everywhere at every moment until Muslims reform it or kill it. Thirty years of increasing innocent deaths in the name of Allah are evidence that this is a twisted barbaric cult whose “moderates” haven’t a clue/plan/the power to change it.
As per an Egyptian FOX commentor this evening, Coptic Christians, in large numbers at that bombing location, were the main target. Proof again that this death cult can’t co-exist with tolerance toward others.
Islam is twisted, but the little quisling pc multi-culti apologists in the west are far more twisted. The smarmy little Bush haters from the safety of their Starbucks, MSM newsroom or college dorm have the least compassion for those victims or honor. Mocking Islam and them was appropriate by posters.
I’m for Mohammed cartoon vanity plates.
“Thirty years of increasing innocent deaths in the name of Allah are evidence that this is a twisted barbaric cult whose “moderates” haven’t a clue/plan/the power to change it.”
Thirty years of increasing innocent deaths in the name of Allah is evidence that traditional, Medieval if you will, Islamic faith has been giving way to a modernist, moderate, tolerant faith, even cosmopolitan faith, and the fundamentalist hoardes can’t stand it. This fight is a cultural war and the fundamentalists will fight it on every level. We help them by being ignorant about this, Penny, and treating every Muslim the same and trying to mock them and stick it to them as you would want us to. Every push back at them pushes the government and the people further into the “why resist” mentality.

You think below the surface it’s “moderate”? If Mubarak croaks or lightens up for a second, we’ll see how “moderate” Egypt really is. Egypt’s Muslim Brotherhood is the historic mothership of terrorism.
No one made fun of the dead, Ted. Re-read those posts. Of course, there were probably moderate Muslims killed but they were not the target. AQ attacked there because the target was rich with Coptic Christians and Jewish tourists.
So, Ted, I’m still not understanding your outrage at other posters and myself? You aren’t satisfied that enough “moderate” Muslims deaths were acknowledeged?
Penny:
You are doing exactly what conservatives generally accuse the left and the MSM of doing with places like Iraq: seeking out the bad news instead of what’s being experienced on the ground.
Have you ever walked down the streets of Egyptian towns. As a woman, your version of Egypt would be dangerous. My wife has not encountered any problem, even alone. I’m certainly not saying that every corner is moderate or that the fundamentalists aren’t pushing hard to gain control. But walk around and you’ll see a lot of hijab-less women driving cars, a lot of folks in shorts, even gambling and alcohol… and no one is killing them.
Wow.
Ted

Ted, pushed into “why resist” isn’t a moral excuse to not take to the streets in outrage or boycott your mosque for change. Sorry. Sheeple behavior didn’t fly in the 1930’s or the 1940’s. It isn’t getting a pass from me. Each person must act in some manner large or small when evil abounds or be dismissed as indifferent or lacking honor by history.
Burqa counts and alcohol don’t tell the full story or its ending. Sure, Egypt is more moderate. It’s also Islamic and has a rabid hatred of Israel. It feeds off of foreign aid. What happens if that disappears?
Re-read my posts. I stand by them. Your outrage at whatever(?) was misplaced.
I’ll take locker room mockery at the perpetrators today by others rather than your “but”…. tangent which distracts from their vileness. Again, what was your original point with your first comment?
Seems to me this wave of terrorism has been going on for a little longer than 30 years – I count the first major attack on the West as being the assassination of RFK in 1968 by the Palestinian terrorist Sirhan Sirhan, in retaliation for the former`s strong support for Israel. It took 9/11 for most of us in the West to recognize the jihad for what it is – a racially-motivated war of hate waged by a group of fanatics who blame Jews for all their own shortcomings. Frankly I’m starting to think of all these Islamic terrorists as a kind of Fourth Reich, who see themselves as a master race, have set up a maniac like Bin Laden as their leader/fuhrer, and are intent on forcing their beliefs on the rest of the world, at gunpoint and under threat of a new Holocaust against the West. I don’t think we’ve yet seen anything close to the end of the battle of Khartoon!!!
Dahab, Egypt
Not everyone in Dahab, apparently, is OK. But that was the point of the explosions, wasn’t it? To turn a little resort town into a charnel house. To let people know that et in Arcadia ego sum; that nowhere is safe. That no sound of happy children, no youthful laughter, no maternal concern will shield against the will of the new Minutemen, the resistants, the freedom fighters, the people who are only pushing back. Were the people of Dahab only Little Eichmanns too?
Update: The Big Pharaoh is OK. +

When we decided that smoking cigarets was no longer tolerable, we started treating smokers like scum. Putting them outside on the street, not allowing them to light up anywhere. Giving them dirty looks, charging them with fines if they didn’t obey.
This charge was led by the lefty ‘let us run your life for you’ gang. These folks appear frantic when a wiff of smoke passes in front of their face. They will shout “second hand smoke kills you inconsiderate jerk”
People who blow a little smoke are the scum of the earth, but people who blow each other up with semtex often using children to deliver the payload should be felt sorry for and given a pass?
I must conclude that Leftist thinking is also dangerous to your health. Best to not think their thoughts … it could be harmful. You know second hand liberal thoughts can make you sick or even get you killed. One thing for certain they will make you appear really stupid.
I can’t say that I have ever heard any original leftist thinking. That thinking was already done long ago by now dead socialists and communists
They just keep recycling it because they think it’s better for the environment to not be producing anything new.
BTW – I love Penny.
You are all invited to join the “IMAM” club.
I‘ll Mock A Muslim. Until they stop killing anything and everthing with a pulse.
Phil, Penney and John have certainly staked out the neocon position without missing a beat, platitude or slur. And not a single fact that could be debated, because there isn’t a single fact raised. Enjoy your “discussion.” Good night.
Hey John: Can you please point me to any comment by anyone anywhere that says we should show some sympathy for the fundamentalist murderers and terrorists?
Or, as the saying goes, are you just blowing a little smoke? Or maybe inhaling a bit too much?

————————————-
If that’s not a call to sympathy for Muslims I don’t know what is.
And the personal insults are unnecessary, I already know you are a boor and a fool.
I know you were specific in order to load the question, but I consider all Muslims murders and terrorist until they prove otherwise. They are in a different world from ours where one is innocent until proven guilty.
I need to see Muslim societies forming en mass to fight the terrorism and the clerics who are presently running the show. Similar to the masses of leftists who are regularly attacking Bush, Blair, Rice, Harper et al.
Only then, will I be convinced that a substantial number of Muslims are peaceful and deserve respect. Until then … You can excuse them, I cannot.
That’s sympathy for the actual, dead victims of a terrorist attack, John. Criticizing some crass humour at the expense of dead innocents is not the same as showing sympathy for terrorists. I dunno, maybe it’s just me. But I’ll ask again: Can you please point me to any comment by anyone anywhere that says we should show some sympathy for the fundamentalist murderers and terrorists?
And the “insult” was not meant as much but just calling you on your over-the-top hyperbole (“killing anything and everthing with a pulse”) without any facts to back you up (as your response proves even more) and extending your own smoking metaphor.
Honestly, not meant to insult you in a personal way. I only insulted you in a personal way in my mind.

Please ignore henceforth.
Ahh. When cornered into an argument he cannot win, when caught out spewing meaningless hyperbole he can’t back up, what else can he do but reduce the discussion to pithy name calling. (BTW, a troll is not simply someone who disagrees with you, Duke.)
I was willing to carry through with an actual discussion with you, my friend, but I take it that’s a bit beyond your faculties. I’ll take your last comment as a concession speech.
Duke, thanks for playing. Next? Anyone want to try to point me to any comment by anyone anywhere that says we should show some sympathy for the fundamentalist murderers and terrorists?
No?
Oh, well. It’s midnight anyway.
G’night.

Thanks Aqitfact, for your “fact” that I, among others, is a “neocon.” After all you know me so well. Don’t worry Kate, I’m not interested in a chat with Aqitfact. I guess it’s not a fact that bin Laden used the banning of Hamas as proof of a Zionist Crusader conspiracy in his latest statement. If you don’t want to be part of the discussion, that is fine with me. I guess it’s easier to insert the word “Bush” somewhere in the sentence. Then no consideration of the massacre in Darfur, the attack in Egypt or any other inconvenient “fact” is necessary. Bye bye.
With a bounty of millions of US dollars on Bin Laden’s head, you have to wonder why we are no closer to apprehending him then we were 4+ years ago.
The answer has to be that Osama and his ilk have plenty of sympathy, help and collusion almost certainly from fundamentalist based Islamic governments, perhaps even from elements within Muslim governments who we consider to be friendly, and to a large extent from mainstream Muslim societies as well.
We should be at war with more than just the terrorists.
We should be at war with the so-called religious zealots who preach hatred against Israel and the West.
We should be at war with the riled Islamic rabble who riot in the streets and threaten death to foreigners, all over a few tasteless cartoons.
We should be at war with a centuries old barbaric cult attempting to masquerade as a religion.
Bin Laden and similar stripes of terrorists are nothing more than the end result of a sick, mindless, barbaric society which condones brutality, subjugation, mayhem, and murder in it’s efforts to dominate the world.
This has to be more than just a war on terror.
The terrorists are simply the dandelions we see growing on our lawns. If we want to eliminate them, we must get to the roots of the problem.
I agree with Penny. I read a piece written by a former muslim who claims the best way to deal with Islam is to ridicule it into shame. The cartoons, he said, was a good start – before the west went into dhimmi bomb shelter mode. The basis of his argument is that Moe was a narcisist and that all his followers have repalced their own id with his (no wonder every other muslim is named mohammad),
For those interested, there’s an important site on the legal and perhaps more lethal tactics Muslims are using against us right in our own backyard:
