A letter from the Mayor of Tall Afar, Ninewa, Iraq
Our city was the main base of operations for Abu Mousab Al Zarqawi. The city was completely held hostage in the hands of his henchmen. Our schools, governmental services, businesses and offices were closed. Our streets were silent, and no one dared to walk them. Our people were barricaded in their homes out of fear; death awaited them around every corner. Terrorists occupied and controlled the only hospital in the city. Their savagery reached such a level that they stuffed the corpsesof children with explosives and tossed them into the streets in order to kill grieving parents attempting to retrieve the bodies of their young. This was the situation of our city until God prepared and delivered unto them the courageous soldiers of the 3d Armored Cavalry Regiment, who liberated this city, ridding it of Zarqawis followers after harsh fighting, killing many terrorists, and forcing the remaining butchers to flee the city like rats to the surrounding areas, where the bravery of other 3d ACR soldiers in Sinjar, Rabiah, Zuma and Avgani finally destroyed them.
I have met many soldiers of the 3d Armored Cavalry Regiment; they are not only courageous men and women, but avenging angels sent by The God Himself to fight the evil of terrorism.
The leaders of this Regiment; COL McMaster, COL Armstrong, LTC Hickey, LTC Gibson, and LTC Reilly embody courage, strength, vision and wisdom.
Officers and soldiers alike bristle with the confidence and character of knights in a bygone era. The mission they have accomplished, by means of a unique military operation, stands among the finest military feats to date in Operation Iraqi Freedom, and truly deserves to be studied in military science. This military operation was clean, with little collateral damage, despite the ferocity of the enemy. With the skill and precision of surgeons they dealt with the terrorist cancers in the city without causing unnecessary damage.
“Knights”? Maybe there was more to this “Crusades” thing than we were told!

Hi Kate,
There’s a globeandmail.com poll asking if we really need the CBC. So far most ppl are saying YES. My blog doesn’t get much traffic, but I know yours does. Isn’t it so convenient that it’s during the Olympics they ask this question?!?!!
And this has to do with US liberating Iraqi people…?
I think a tear just went down my cheek…
There’s a story that you’ll never see in Canadian MSM print. It might offend Islamic sensitivities, or make Canadians ashamed that our former weasil of a PM rejected supporting the US and that the cause is noble.
There will be a day of reckoning, those who side with “evil doers” will pay a mighty price for their silence. Where was their cries for free speech when the cartoons were printed? Where were their protests marches when the cries for Sharia law in the land was screamed from the mosques?
I agree John, that’ll never get into the MSM here. Too bad though, I found it quite interesting.
Hmmm. Call me cynical but this “letter” doesn’t sound like it was written by a citizen of Iraq. Sounds more like a letter written by an American patriot trying to boost the morale of the troops serving there.
I hope it works but I don’t believe an Iraqi would write a letter the way this one is worded.
Just my $.02
Jack, you need to visit the Iraqi blogs on the sideroll. Scroll down, and spend a few hours in their archives.
Furthermore, the letter is just another of a steady stream of such sentiments coming out of Iraq in the past two years. That you haven’t heard of them is an indictment of our media.
3d Armored Cavalry Regiment comes home!
Now THAT is worth celebrating.
This is a very nice letter that will get NO coverage from todays presstitutes.
Nice catch Kate (again) on the comparison to knights.
What the heck?
May be it is a translation glitch.
I love this post…
Dittos to Kate’s 12:01 remark.
Anyone caring to do some surfing of Iraqi blogs can find numerous entries along these very positive lines.
The majority of the Iraqi people are deeply grateful to the US and Coalition Allies for their liberation.
Those deeply opposed to this liberation include: ex-Baathists, Al Qaeda and most of the political left wings of Europe and North America. Great company these leftists are keeping…
Great post Kate. This made my day. It seems to go along with a poll done in Iraq about a year ago. The Iraqui people wanted the US Army to stay but of course would have preferred they weren’t there. You can imagine how the MM read this poll.
Sorry, my post was pointed to the first one by Sharon
McMaster is the Hereo of the battle of 73 easting. He’s one of the best armour handlers the Americans have.
Dave “Those deeply opposed to this liberation include: ex-Baathists, Al Qaeda and most of the political left wings of Europe and North America. Great company these leftists are keeping…”
Well we here on the left all love those Al Qaeda types. They’re a bit wacky at first but great fun once you get to know them.
You can cherry pick nuggets of truth in Iraq to support whatever point of view you want. I’m very dubious of people who claim “the majority of Iraqis feel….” on either side of the political spectrum. It’s usually a precursor to a load of bollocks.
Gunney99 “You can imagine how the MM read this poll.”
Pretty much the same way you described it actually.

Soldiers from 1 Canadian Field Hospital (1 Cdn Fd Hosp) received a final briefing before departing for CFB Trenton where they caught a flight to Kandahar.
CFB PETAWAWA, Ontario Approximately 20 soldiers from Canadian medical units deployed to Kandahar, Afghanistan, on February 1. This marked the first time that Canadian Forces have commanded Role 3 medical facilities since the Gulf War of 1991.
After giving a short briefing, Commodore Margaret Kavanagh, commander of Canadian Forces Health Services Group, wished all the soldiers going overseas well.
Master Corporal Karen Smith of 1 Cdn Fd Hosp said goodbye to her family before departing.
Family and friends also had a chance to share some last minute handshakes and heart-warming hugs before soldiers boarded a bus bound for CFB Trenton where they caught a flight to Kandahar.
The Role 3 medical facilities have capabilities equivalent to a small hospital, including surgical, laboratory and X-ray services.
“We have a full range of diagnostic services, everything from surgery to CT scanner to primary and emergency care. We can take care of anything that is thrown our way in Kandahar,” said Major Douglas Kromrey, second in command of the Role 3 Health Services Support Company.
Deployed soldiers took command of the Role 3 medical facility in Kandahar, currently operated by the United States. The medical unit will be working closely with British, American and Dutch soldiers in this Canadian-led facility and will provide health care services to the multinational forces serving in Kandahar. >>>

Things you can’t say in Canada (among others): “I don’t like Margaret Atwood”, “Bilingualism is a waste of money”, and “Thank God for the USA and their military”. Left to our left wing weanie politicians of yore, thugs and butchers like these would have faced little more than harsh language instead of the serious ass-kickings they richly deserve. To quote from ‘Team America’ – “It’s the FAG way”.
