…well someone say something…
“here moosie, moosie, moosie…”
ok, a moose walks into the bar and says to the busty blonde….
I will say something. The reason the comments at Small Dead Animals is dropping off is because the blog is no longer objective. Since Harper has been sworn in, Kate has become, well… lets just say that the small animals are still dead, but they just smell more.
This blog never sold itself as being objective. It’s got a reputation for being truthful, insightful, and entertaining.
Plus I like the fact that there is no editor around somewhere squelching the freedom of speech in here.
Well, there are quasi editors out there.
😉
What are you talking about Kyla???? SDA’a whole premise was objectivity? Remember references to Monte Solberg? What about the bloody CBC endorsing Kate? We all expected more. It is that simple. Otherwise she should just dedicae herself to pictures of Bilenda or the Vagina Harper logs.
ha I wonder when this blog will pick up what MSM is dragging?
Ice Cream: you’re not serious are you? I find it hard enough keeping up with all the topics and the responses.
I think she’s doing a dandy job.
So go away little troll…
ice cream is right on, hope kathy will see that too.
…who’s kathy?
Garth Turner has +500 comments in the last 2 days.
if it’s only quantity, well he has it, t most of them are congrats, (including mine) words like “I never knew the conservatives had this in them” or “what giant balls you have Garth” (I didn’t really see that one)
well, I like GT. he isn’t perfect, and neither is democracy.
it is comfortable here for me, I admit it. perhaps if I wanted only objective news, I’d “google news”, and read whatever randomly pooped out.
I like the idea of commenting on the items that someone else thinks are important, there’s always someone (maybe me?) that has something ridiculous to say, and I enjoy the chase, as well as the kill. and so often, the comments of others I’d never normally hear, are what I find really make sense in an otherwise weird world. The comments I don’t agree with are generally worth my time reading them, if only for perspective, and because we all come from different backgrounds.
It is a question of can I understand this person? or do we firebomb their house?
Additionally; if none of the news is worth questioning, why have more than 1 news outlet? we could have 1 world news centre, and dish it out in little packets.
we could have 1 world religion, and we could try to all get along like kindergarten kids. or as lobotimized adults. Heck, we could be speaking the same language in a few years. ok ok, it was all a bad dream.
As for totally objective news, hmmm, except for things like, “Man, hit by a car while walking outside the crosswalk”, it doesn’t really happen this way.
we test things, to know if they are good, or if they are shit. we don’t stop testing opinions, because opinions are important. we need them.
as Kate says under, “Why this blog”? … an ordinary Canadian yelling back at the radio, “You don’t speak for me”
…. because I’ve never been asked either, that’s why.
sorry s/b kate.
but here is something to spice up things:
Just how bad were Harper’s first five days in office? Let us count the ways:
Emerson’s stunning defection to Harper’s cabinet two weeks after he was elected as a Liberal outraged even many Tory stalwarts, who had supported legislation banning such party-switching. “I expected some of the superficial criticism I’ve seen,” Harper responded to the Vancouver Sun, the rhetorical equivalent of waving a red flag in front of a bull. Since then, Emerson’s work on the softwood lumber file has been questioned, he’s contemplated quitting politics and his cabinet reward has formally been referred to Parliament’s ethics commissioner by the NDP.
Michael Fortier, the unelected Conservative campaign co-chairman who was elevated to cabinet and given a Senate appointment, told reporters he hadn’t run for office because he didn’t feel like it.
Gordon O’Connor, the new defence minister, is being challenged because of his past work as a military procurement lobbyist. His new job will put him in charge of massive spending on military procurement.
Ted Menzies, the affable Alberta MP, was made parliamentary secretary for the francophonie and official languages, although he speaks no French.
Ontario MP Garth Turner, a former cabinet minister in the Brian Mulroney government, spoke openly about his disdain for Emerson’s floor-crossing and was called on the carpet by Harper — only to write about the dressing down on his web site. Turner now plans to introduce a private member’s bill calling for floor-crossers to face voters in byelections.

Is the recount separate from complaints to Election Canada around ‘oddities’ during the vote?
Is this the final verdict, in other words?
Off topic, (sorry about that): Ten bucks sez the fix is already in, on the ‘Tainted Blood Trial’!
Ice cream has to be discarded when it goes sour.
The venting that has taken place here has been very informative, stress relieving and has contributed to safer driving as a side benefit.
Dogmatic, closed minded Liberals have been converted with the information made available here.

Kate I normally don’t do this, but here’s a comment I left on Coyne’s blog. After I read it again, I realized how little the other perspective is being told. Here it is, cheers:
To summarize:
– Crossing the floor is part of political convention.
– Harper specifically refused to do away with the practice.
– Floor crossing was used by the Libs just a few mos ago, not to keep a highly qualified person on a critical job, but to keep thier corrupt government afloat by staving off a non confidence vote.
– the press hailed it as a strategic victory for Martin, and a failure for Harper
– now a Lib is asked to stay on at his post under a Harper government, given his value to the position, and there is outrage at the practice, and the floor crosser is villified by the press (standard headline refers to Emerson as a “turncoat”)
– Belinda, on the other hand, is being touted as the next possible Leader of the Libs, and potentially of Canada.
This isn’t a floor crossing issue, this is a floor crossing against the Libs issue.
To use the analogy referred to above, nobody minds a hip check being used against the conservatives, but the CPC should not dare to use it themselves.
What’s amazing is how shameless the press is being with the double standard.
Paul Wells was caught red handed in such a blatant double standard (give him credit for admitting it – though it seemed he had no choice) but his response was “foiled again”, as if judging/reporting on/analyzing in opposite ways depending on which party is being analyzed is no big deal.
As for Mr. Turner, apparantly he now may be leaving the party. And get this, he’s being applauded.
Elected as a conservative, and days later he’s leaving to who know’s what (Lib, independent) and that’s OK.
I wonder if the press will be doing any surveys to see if folks voted for Turner because they were voting for the conservatives, like they’re doing with Emerson. I doubt it. They’ll probably continue to rely on anecdotal evidence (carefully selected to fit the preconcieved narrative) that he’s got the support of the people.
And to make it all OK is the historical revisionism and moral equivalence arguement that Harper would vow to stop this.
BTW Harper railed against the Libs for putting the party ahead of governing. Isn’t accepting a Lib as a cabinet minister because he’s the most qualified, rather than putting a less qualified, but party member in, putting the government ahead of the party?
And isn’t that what Garth is really ticked about? Harper put good government ahead of party ties, leaving Garth out in the cold?
Politics, like Truth, is perception.
If I were a Conservative advisor, I’d advise that they have to get back to acting, rather than reacting, in the news forum. The Conservatives’ enemies, especially in the MSM, are making the most of of all this to damage the Conservatives.
For example, this article, link below, about the supposed “Horrible Week” that Harper is having. http://news.yahoo.com/s/cpress/20060210/ca_pr_on_na/harper_rough_start
Harper pulled off a great piece of work by appointing Emerson. One, got rid of a potential leadership candidate, made senate elections a hot topic, made crossing the floor a no no, all things he wants, but needed liberal support to pass. How could they vote against any of these things in the House and still have credibility. Emerson could resign, be appointed to the senate and keep his job, or he could resign, not run again, and leave Vancouver out of the loop for up to six months, before a by-election is called. Turner will turn, he is just upset like other defeated leadership people were, that people didn’t want him. He has killed any opportunity to go anywhere with Harper. Wonder what his voters think. Will he run for Martins job. Why are there no polls out asking the voters in Emersons riding what they want or think, same with Turners. Soon the lib bench will be made up of nothing but former Conservatives and Dippers. What makes those voters (acting like muslim rioters) who are offended think Emerson would run again or that an election would be called immediately. They are just afraid that the SWL deal will be concluded in our favor, and they can’t bash Bush anymore when the truth is out that it has been Martin who has deliberately dragged his feet, to the detriment of BC workers, industry and economy. They should be careful what they wish for. After seeing our ugly uniforms in Turin and the Roots US ones, I hope the designers of the canadian ones are fired, never to be heard from again. But, I expect, with the shortsightedness of Vancouver the 2010 ones will be worse. The message they are sending Harper is, we don’t want your help funding the games or solving the SWL problem. Just what would an NDP MP do for you. Nothing, just what you deserve.
What is the interest with Coyne?
I think he is overrated, But I must confess I was banned off his blog after one post. :0)
I cannot even recall why or when I was banned as I never read him anyways and promptly forgot about it until this latest election.
I still do not read him but now I understand that he is joining the dog pile on the Conservatives and PM Harper.
What is the problem with Canadian Conservatives?
What is it about triangulation they do not get?
The Liberals have been dividing and conquering the Conservatives for so long one would think at some point the Conservatives would figure it out.
I want them to practice teamwork and loyalty, something PM Harper has every right to expect.
Turner needs to toe the line too.
If he feels he cannot play by the current rules then he should do his team a favour and take his ball and go home, i.e., quit.
PM Harper deserves a team player in that ministry and IMHO Turner knows that or should know that.
No bozos allowed, you were barred because you say anyways instead of anyway.
Loyalty? Chretien and Martin used the rich bonus to buy loyalty. If you mentioned anything about monies out the back door or under the table, you risked losing your job, your perks, your house, your wife and your BONUS!

Tony, I know the difference between loyalty and greed.
Why is it so many Canadians do not practice or uphold the importance of loyalty?
Is it because so many Americans do, so therefore it cannot be a Canadian value?
I suppose to practice loyalty the team needs to be unified, which is another concept that Canadians always struggle with.
Divide and conquer could be the Liberals motto.
