As everyone is aware by now, it’s the second suicide bombing in Afghanistan to claim the life of a Canadian (a civilian) . Three members of the CAF were injured. CTV reports responsibility has been claimed by the Taliban. The blast also killed two Afghan civilians and injured 10.
Readers are invited to use the comments for any updates, etc. But no politicing, please.

This is only the latest of several dozen suicide bombings in Afganistan in the past four months- does this represent a ‘trend’? (And was the bomber a local yokel- or was he recuited from another country?)
The victim has been named: Glyn Berry of Foreign Affairs. My condolences to the family.
perhaps the Khadrs , especially Mama Khadr or their battery of tax paid lawyers would like to comment.
maybe CBCpravda could send a journalist over, Kneel MacDonald perhaps , for a reality check.
My prays and well as my familys go out to the family of Glyn Berry as well as to the familys of the injured. After being and preparing to deploy again to Afganistan I personally know of the hardships and danger they endure. Solider on guys your doing great work
Initial reports said the dead Canadian was a soldier.
Now, if you go to CBC.ca or CTV.ca you can’t find a trace of those reports.
For what it’s worth, this morning I wrote a short post on the difference between how the MSM and blogs handle corrections.
This is why we need to take down the Libbies and put in a government that:

I used to work with Glyn in External Affairs. He was a classy guy doing a great job in a difficult place. My prayers go out to his family.
Also remember CBCpravda refused to air a documentary done in Afghanistan by a fellow here in Calgary. Well done apparently showing how good the Canadian impact is over there.
My condolences to the family, but the real injustice is the Canadian public doesn’t know what is really going on over there, thanks to Liberal and CBC.
cheers

Wonder why the MSM is saying that these poor guys are only suffering injuries not wounds. This is a war zone and these guys have been wounded by enemy combatants period. lets report it for what it is. God bless them.
I read that the 3 soldiers were taken to a US military hospital in Germany. Thank you America.
It is worth noting that the hospital in Germany treating our troops wounded in Afstan is an American military hospital (and that the soldiers were almost certainly flown there in an American military transport).

Last week retired Admiral Ken Summers spoke to a Newcomers Club meeting in Victoria on the subject. His excellent presentation focused on the increased danager Canadian Forces were facing in Kandahar, home of the Talaban. He was and is so right.
A comment on the two individuals who were so quick in thanking the Americans for looking after our soldiers in a “US Military Hospital” in Germany.
People should educate themselves before making comments since you did mentioned Kate, “no politics”.
The operation in Afghanistan is a NATO operation. First line medical support is provided by Canadian Medical Soldiers on the ground. In an emergency, “Second Line Medical Support” in our case is provided by the Americans in Germany since it is the closes “English” speaking hospital available (don’t worry, it’s not free, you should ask to see the bill).
“Third Line Support” will be provided in Canada once our soldiers are able to travel.
The Americans are not doing Canadian Soldiers any favours. Before being quick in thanking them, get all the facts.
As for Medical evacuations, we do have CC130s stationed in the area for just such emergencies. They may or may not have been used. When lives are at stake the first available facilities are used.
If it’s not an emergency and soldiers are able to travel they are evacuated directly from the Theatre of Operation to Canada using Canadian Military Aircrafts.
I’m proud to have served close to 40 years in uniform and I just wish Canadians should do their own research on our troops and stop blaming the media for their ignorance. Many sites are available on the Web please log on.
I extend my best wishes and quick recovery to these excellent soldiers.
