65 Replies to “First Annual Small Dead Blog Awards”

  1. Monte Solberg – best political blog
Lorne Gunter – best MSM, since Andrew has gone AWOL and after that drippy GG number.
Angry gets my nomination for best whistleblower

  2. It’s great to see that right wing bloggers demonstrate the same level of creativity and imagination as their political leadership.
An acknowledgement of Robert M’s awards would have been gracious. Astonishing and completely out of character, of course…but gracious.

  3. I nominate Carol Jameson for the Most Outrageous Cdn Moonbat Blog (there should be two moonbat awards so one could got MWW

  4. Robert M’s awards are not worthy of mention. I I was planning to nominate his blog for award #6. He’s right up there with Werner Patels and Socialist Swine for pure craziness.

  5. Nominations:
    3. Best American Blog: http://www.captainsquartersblog.com
    8. Best Blog run by member of MSM: http://www.michellemalkin.com
    9. Best Hard News blog: http://www.soundpolitics.org
    – This might need some explination. Sound Politics is a WA state blog and has provided the best investigative reporting of the WA election fiasco. Stefan Sharkansky provided scans of the actual documents in question. You simply could not find this information anywhere else.
    14. Best coverage of Iraq (blog or otherwise): michaelyon.blogspot.com

  6. wingnuterer for either the most humorous or the weirdest, I can’t decide which.
    definitely michaelyon.blogspot for Iraq
CQ for American political blog, eitherorr for best new American blog and The Sheila Variations for best American (nonpolitical) blog
Stephen Taylor for Cdn political blog (since you won’t let us vote for Kate)

  7. How about best blog post of 2005. Why is this not a category? I nominate “The Tipping Point” written by Walsingham at The Monarchist to be far and away the best blog post of 2005.

  8. I nominate myself for weirdest Canadian blog. To further complicate matters, I’m an expatriate Canadian living in a mediterranean cave as did Plato in Book V of the Republic.
Anyone who has read my successive letters in Mark Steyn’s mailbag can attest to that. But, enough about me, what do YOU think about me?

  9. The best new or novice blog should go to:
    http://YoungConservative.blog.ca
She’s a student and has hit the ground running. Presents a story very well, good research and she is not even trying yet.
Could be a politician in the making.
The blog template itself can be changed for the better, but You can see promise there.
One other blog that may be deserving is:
    http://Cowtwngrl.blogspot.com
Aiz seems to have captured the sunny side of Calgary. Always a pleasure to pend time there and she sure runs a tidy ship. Enjoyable.

  11. “Let’s just say that I was as gracious as he normally is. ;-)”
If you’re the same Sean that used to do Polspy…I’m disappointed in you. Whatever you think of Robert, stealing his idea and most of his structure is pretty disgusting. You were a witty and, to all appearances, ethical writer back then…this really suprises me.

  12. “How about best blog post of 2005. Why is this not a category? I nominate “The Tipping Point” written by Walsingham at The Monarchist to be far and away the best blog post of 2005.”
I second that – don’t forget Tipping Point II.
“If you’re the same Sean that used to do Polspy…I’m disappointed in you. Whatever you think of Robert, stealing his idea and most of his structure is pretty disgusting. You were a witty and, to all appearances, ethical writer back then…this really suprises me.”
That has to sting, Sean. You know very well that Robert originated the entire “best of” concept. No one else ever thought to compare one blog to another before he did it. Shame on you, you witty, ethical bastard. Shame!

  13. Only going to nominate for the catagories that feel qualified enough to comment on:
    1. Best Canadian Blog – Angry In the Great White North
    2. Best New Canadian Blog – Define new?
    5. Best “Blogging Tory” – Political Staples/Bound by Gravity (tie in my mind)
    6. Moonbat – Jamieson’s “Get Harper” blog
    7. Humourous – Blogette
    8. MSM – You already named Wells and Cosh, so I’ll add Radwanski for a nomination…
    9. Hard News Blog – AngryITGWN again
    10. Whistle Blower – The Black Rod (though that’s a Manitoba thing, I’m sure)
    12. Canadian Political – Monte’s
    15. Weirdest Canadian Blog – Buckets of Grewal

  14. “If you’re the same Sean that used to do Polspy…I’m disappointed in you. Whatever you think of Robert, stealing his idea and most of his structure is pretty disgusting. You were a witty and, to all appearances, ethical writer back then…this really suprises me.”
Ah, yes, I’m sure that the idea of a ‘best blog’ contest originated entirely with Robert. We should all bow down at his feet.
    Not.
Yes, I’m the same Sean from PolSpy, and you’ll notice that I care as much about what people think of me now as I did back then.
Robert’s trash simply isn’t worth acknowledging or giving a linkback to (for example, his F*** the Jews’ post is classic McClelland). In the nearly two years we ran PolSpy, he was the only commenter that managed to earn a ban. Even the two lefties on our crew, the anti-Bush ones, agreed with the ban as they felt the only thing he added to a conversation was fertilizer.

  15. An award show?
Will there be a ten second delay to protect the audience?
Will there be a cool looking skinny chick with big tits sending out the code for the button to the winners?
Will there be any of the usual Indian ceremonies with dancing, drumming and grunting to open the judging?
Shouldn’t you wait for CBC to get operational?
What are the critieria for making judgements … surely it’s not just a numbers game is it?
Are there any grants involved …?
    Is this legal?
An awared show …. sort of like a self-love-in event.
For those who just tuned in … here is a bit on the nature of blogging and bloggers and readers of blogs.
    “we talk a lot”
“repeat a lot of what others write”
“we don’t actually do anything, just bitch about it”
“we love ourselves for the most part”
“we are smart asses with good vocabularys .. sorta”
“we wish the masses knew what we were talking about”
“we try to be funny sometimes”
“we have too much time on our hands.”
“however, once in awhile we manage to take down some arrogant asshole like Dan Rather and that’s what makes it all worth while!!!!!”
This is Canada, so I have to ask … who do I vote for?

  16. Small Dead Blog Awards

Sean, formally of Pol:Spy fame, has decided to start up the Small Dead Blog Awards over on Small Dead Animals. Sean’s creation will run in addition to the Canadian Blog Awards (set up by Robert McClelland), which may have the unfortunate side effect …

  17. Here’s a short list for the SDBAs. And yes, I threw myself in two categories (so sue me). My picks are as follows:
Best Canadian blog — Damian Penny, Bound By Gravity, Angry in the Great White North, Dust My Broom and Political Staples
Best American blog — Instapundit, Michelle Malkin, The Volokh Conspiracy, Captain’s Quarters and David Limbaugh
Best ‘Blogging Tories’ blog — Stephen Taylor, Adam Daifallah, Blue Blogging Soapbox, Le Blog de Polyscopique and Toronto Tory
Most outrageous Canadian ‘Moonbat’ blog — Carol Jamieson has won this award hands down
Most humorous blog — Calgary Grit, Wingnuterer, Grumpy Young Crank, Relapsed Catholic and (this will surprise some people) Gods of the Copybook Headings
Best blog run by a member of the MSM — Lorne Gunter, Colby Cosh, Andrew Coyne, David Frum and myself, Right Ho (I may be anonymous, but I am part of the MSM)
Best hard news blog — Winds of Change, Arthur Chrenkoff, The Belmont Club, Lucianne Goldberg and Natalie Solent
Best Canadian political blog — Sobering Thoughts, Political Staples, Gods of the Copybook Headings, Burkean Canuck and myself, Right Ho
Best American political blog — Instapundit, The Belmont Club, Andrew Sullivan, Scrappleface and Baseball Crank (don’t be fooled by this blog’s title, it has excellent political coverage, too)

  18. “In the nearly two years we ran PolSpy, he was the only commenter that managed to earn a ban.”
So you set your standard by establishing the bottom of the barrel, then digging slightly lower?
    Very good. Most impressed.

  19. “So you set your standard by establishing the bottom of the barrel, then digging slightly lower?”
It’s hard to get lower than defending McClelland. You tend to your ethics, I’ll tend to mine.

  20. 17. Best blog by an extended family member of an Athenian Philosopher – non cave dwelling – English speaking.
Note: must provide evidence of toga wearing and sandals. References should be available upon request; all references are expected to be deceased.

  21. What? No Best Canadian Ann Coulter/Michelle Malkin-manques category?
    How utterly disappointing.

  22. Maybe I’m jumping in where I shouldn’t balb, but there are a lot of different blog contests out there. Not to mention a lot of different contests and polls in general. There’s no way of knowing whether it was even very likely Sean “stole” this idea from Robert. (“stole” inasmuch you couldn’t even steal the idea of a blog contest) I mean it would be nice and, in fact, in keeping with what I judge to be normal blog etiquette to say it was inspired by Robert’s contest – if it was, that is.

  23. Although I am conservative, there are a couple of conservative blogs that I think should be included in the “moonbat” catagory, is this acceptable??
Also, I know of a very well written left blog, very well written, though I never agree with it, what is your ruling on “best” political blog? Is this by what you agree with, or how it is written?
I’ll give my nominations after these are answered, thanks….

  24. Maybe a Biggest Wingnut category could be added. Although that could be pretty divisive, given the right-leaning flavour of this blog. (Too bad I never did much with my Wingnut On Parade blog, that award would have been mine!)

  25. “it would be nice and, in fact, in keeping with what I judge to be normal blog etiquette to say it was inspired by Robert’s contest – if it was, that is.”
I agree, Rob. Wander over to Robert’s site and review the two active threads dealing with his awards: review the discussion on award categories. Then you decide.
