Liberal 101: Ignoring Results Of Votes

Paul Martin’s pattern of behavior continues. What can’t be achieved through democratic means….

Official Opposition Senior Environment Critic Bob Mills stated today that he is critical of the Liberal government’s plan to introduce a tax on carbon emissions. The scheme was initially designed to be part of the budget implementation bill but was removed by all Opposition Members of Parliament at the Finance Committee. This notice of intent to list CO2 in the Canadian Environmental Protection Act (CEPA) was quietly slipped into the Canada Gazette over the weekend.
“This is a phony government that knows no shame whatsoever. After the Liberals announced their plan to list CO2 in CEPA as a toxic substance in April, MP’s from all parties demanded the provision be removed. All Opposition MP’s at Finance Committee voted to remove the provisions. Undaunted by widespread opposition in the House, the Liberals have now decided to implement their carbon tax through order-in-Council. This is unacceptable, undemocratic and clearly against the wishes of the Commons Environment Committee…”

  1. And this is how Paul Martin is going to address “Western Alienation” and the “Democratic Deficit”. A Carbon tax – by whatever name they give it is primarily a tax on Alberta.
I’m glad of one thing – a move like this will just push a whole bunch more Albertans into the separatist camp. For a man whose spent his whole life in politics he seems obtuse the the realities of where the mood of Alberta is.
It’s time that those politician who really believe in Canada start looking at the economic realities of this country. Alberta WILL NOT be over taxed any more than we already are. Those of us who now call ourselves Albertan (not Canadian)are looking better and better.
If this really happens Ted Morton and the Firewall instantly becomes the moderate Alberta position. I can’t wait to see how this plays out. It’s definately going to make RK retirement much more interesting and hints are he’s gone by this time next year.

  2. Ever since Preston Manning in 1993, the Cons trot out the Carbon tax boogeyman. Yawn. This has been done so many times. The Cons are so bereft of policy they have to make stuff up to scare people. Pathetic.

  3. Saying that CO2 is a pollutant is a far cry from creating a tax. typical Con over-reach and hyperbole.

  4. Oh Please – if you don’t think that calling CO2 a pollutant doesn’t lead to a tax you need your head examined. There is only one reason for this and it’s to create do an end run around a tax, it will be called a “fine” instead. Do you like that word better.
We lived and through federal meddling once before we WON’T do it again. You can beleive what you want – but if it walks like a duck and talks like a duck …

  5. Al Jazeera emits CO2; deadly; you bet your life.
    Librano$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ and Al Jazeera *******
What would you say to them?
Al-Tamimi: “I say that people who blow themselves up… There are already dozens of them. If you say that they are cowards, then you are a mental pervert. They love death like that man loves life. Who made them love death? Britain and the U.S. with their actions. And the American and British peoples will pay the price if they don’t put an end to these governments.”

  7. Al & Bob,
How silly of us to keep forgetting we are the scary ones.
Carbon tax aside, the motion was duly moved and passed within a Commons committee, yet the Liberals ignore the results and bring it back via an Order-In-Council. Motions get passed we don’t like either ignore them (4 Non-Confidence votes for eg.) or just pass them anyway because the NGP knows what it best for Canadians not their lowly representatives they send to Ottawa.
Not to worry though, Inkless Wells has the link to the Liberal solution to our democratice deficit which should warm us all.

  8. Sheila, * to do an end run*, my words exactly, and the Libscammr’s reign of government by fraud continues onward through to next November? December?
Are your holidays not dampened at all, knowing we should have started clean-up last May / June? I know Cadman was extremely ill, but this is like a root-canal. 73s TG

  9. CO2 rules! Without it there would be no Live 8 concerts! Ever try to sing without CO2 ladened gas tickling the tonsils?
So if CO2 is a pollutant then so is what it creates…like green plants, fruits and vegetables, U2 and Bruce Springsteen music…say it isn’t so!

  10. Calling CO2 a pollutant defies basic nature and accurate science..the rest of the rational world outside Librano tax scheming BS know it to be simple plant food and a necessary atmospheric gass to properly conduct sound and heat.

  11. The Co2’tax’ will put Adscam and the Gun Registry look like peanuts! (With plenty more where this lunacy comes from.)
