Watching America

A news aggregator with a difference – Watching America collects news items about the United States from across the globe and translates them into English.
It’s certain to be an eye-opener for those who have been sheltered from the breathtaking anti-American propoganda commonplace in the European media – not to mention that of “unfriendly” nations. It should help bring polls on America’s so-called “popularity in the world” into sharp – and disturbing – perspective.

  1. Because the thing the world needs is to know more about the US – they’re just so quiet about themselves. Sheesh.

Todd has old Aunty-American tied up in his/its attic; lets her out once in a while for air.
Phew! Aunty-American should get out more often.
Perhaps a prolonged stay in Lebanon would be advised. Great pita breads there: a side-trip to the Golan Heights (free binoculars provided) is a must-see. Look at those Roman ruins, Aunty. Gee, they dress funny here, eh Aunty?

  3. No, Todd – because Canadians need to have better understanding about the sobering levels of anti-Semitic – anti-American rhetoric being published in Europe and elsewhere under the guise of “news” – before patting ourselves on the back for sharing their “enlightened” views.
For more on that topic, do some archival reading at the German blog Medienkritic (on my blogroll under “Yanks, mostly”)

  4. Thanks for the link Kate, it is interesting, not surprising. Here is how I feel about the man and the do nothing organization they wish for us to be led by:
Kofi and his minions have a lot of kneeling down to do before graves of America’s soldiers , even some civilians who went to Iraq to help it’s people.
Then when he’s done there, he has to go to Walter Reed and promise U.N. financial help to the families of men paralyzed and missing limbs or eyes. He needs to do the same with soldiers who may never be able to function normally in society because of the effect Iraq has had on them. Lastly, he needs to go to Texas where, I apologize for not knowing the hospital’s name, soldiers who have suffered horrific burns are treated and he needs to promise the same financial help to them.
One more thing, Kofi needs to appear on worldwide television and claim culpability for millions of deaths and suffering around the Earth and for being such a thief. Then, he could report to a civilian prison facility in America, any maximum security prison will do and spend his remaining life there.
The media continues it onslaught against America, much of it by our own reporter-citizens. That alone should make other countries think.

All Chinese-run websites that fail to register with telecommunications authorities before June 30 will be temporarily closed down, state media said. The announcement was made Friday by the Ministry of Information Industry in a bid “to control domestic Internet information services,” the Xinhua news agency said. The temporarily closed sites will then have another ten days to comply before being shut down permanently. The move is the latest in China’s efforts to police the Internet and follow stringent efforts — known as the Great Firewall of China — to keep content authorities deem as “unhealthy” such as anti-government postings, off…

For years they did not see eye to eye but this weekend Zimbabwe’s rival war veterans associations will meet to discuss strategies to counter the current police operation ‘clean up’. Max Mkandla, President of the Zimbabwe Liberators Peace initiative, is meeting the usually pro-Zanu PF Zimbabwe National Liberation War Veterans Association (ZNLWVA) in Bulawayo on Saturday. The only difference between the two groups he says was Zanu PF, but now that their colleagues had realized they were being exploited the two groups would be joining forces to confront Mugabe. Mkandla said: There is something that should be done in this…
