Other Michael Critchton novels, e.g., Jurassic Park have been turned into very successful movies. I will be unusually interested in following whether or not State of Fear is turned into a movie. And if it is turned into a movie, will there be any significant changes to the plot? Can Hollywood swallow its politics in order to make lots of money? This is one case were I hope that greed triumphs.
P.S. Critchton has given some talks about the subject matter of State of Fear and about environmentalism generally. The transcripts of some of these talks are on-line. Two transcripts that I particularly enjoyed are:
a talk at Caltech and
a talk to the Commonwealth Club .
I found both of these talks informative and thought provoking. I think that other readers of this site, as well as the site’s creator, will also enjoy them.
I hope I’m wrong but I can’t imagine Hollywood going against one of it’s agendas to the point of making this into something for widespread distribution.
