The one charger to rule them all…

The charger format war is over. The one charger to rule them all is Tesla’s. A major stumbling block in EV adoption has been overcome, if you’re into that sort of thing.

Any organization installing electric vehicle chargers, including SaskPower, FCL and government, should take note of this major development, and cease wasting money on now-obsolete tech, as FCL has been doing (especially in installing CHAdeMO chargers). I mentioned this is a presentation several months ago to the Building Owners and Managers Association Regina. Turns out I was bang on the money.

Edit: missing link added above. Thanks.

  1. However, I have zero interest in purchasing a very expensive, high anxiety computer on wheels that will be impossible to resell with a used battery now eh wot?

The batteries are so heavy that your brakes and tires will wear out sooner than on and ICE vehicle.

Electricity is becoming an energy in short supply that will be taxed to death once there are enough fools with electric cars * .. if ever and I doubt it as EVs are already being shunned buy everyone except rich virtue-signalling assholes.

    * The guv will need to replaced the fuel tax income now won’t they … I mean to say we have the Ukraine war to support and pay for.

    1. “high anxiety computer on wheels”

I can remember a few times when I kept a ordinary ICE vehicle running long past its retirement date through ingenuity and desperation. You can’t have a soothing co-dependent relationship like that with a potentially dangerous/expensive EV.

    2. The tires do wear out fast but in my experience, brakes don’t wear out with regenerative braking. They rust away from lack of use, never getting hot enough to dry out.

  2. Judging by past ‘action-items’ (EV battery plants) + how smart in general theTurd&Librano$ are, they will announce any day now some new big factory of CHAdeMO plugs and allocate ~$13-14B with big media photo shoot and self-patting/boasting how they’re saving the planet.

    1. Federated Coop Limited. They’ve been installing chargers with CCS and CHADeMo at stations around the province. As far as I can find, CHADeMo is only used by the Nissan Leaf.

    1. Tesla has built MORE charging stations than any other EV maker … by far. So it is only logical. Now … those power cords … are they gonna be proprietary-only and cost a shitload of $$$ like every new Apple power cord they invent with every new device?

        1. “The answer is, of course it’ll be more expensive for the $2 connector and $20 worth of copper.”

Factory power cord for a 2022 Toyota Prius was around 1000 dollars to replace, according to a neighbor who had one stolen. He bought an aftermarket one for 300.

  3. Both A/C and D/C external power receptacles for aircraft, have been globally standardized for YEARS, at least since 1950! Makes sense, as planes routinely travel large distances, to many countries.
Same can’t be said for wall plugs the world over, as any traveller with a handful of adapters can testify..

    1. Somewhere around $20 with right now, going down once they figure out that copper coated steel cables can work too?

  4. Thanks, but I’ll stick to the long ago standardized gas pump nozzle. There’s no confusion there.

  5. This will spark outrage with Tesla owners revolted by having to share chargers with trans ports cars.

  6. i was at a historic site in central sask. north battleford. they had two types , tesla and another , i asked if anyone had ever used them . they said not that they knew of.

of course french and english signs too.

    1. Was that at the national park, Fort Battleford? There’s a Tesla supercharger plus two Flo chargers, each with CCS and CHAdeMo at the north end of North Battleford at the Coop mall. I used to live a block from there.

      1. yes , that’s the one. I doubt it was in range of another charger

probably the most disinterested public employee ive ever met at the front desk. and that is saying something in soviet clusterfukastan

  7. Why would we help them in their government-funded insanity? Do not interrupt your opponent when he is being a fool.

    LET them install incompatible cables!

  8. Well, if they get this figured out, maybe they can do something useful and move on to standardizing things that ordinary folk use on a regular basis: self-checkouts; gas-pump payments; parking lot exits; airline ticket purchases; etc. etc.

  9. Yaaaaaaaaa…*golf clap*
Tesla won the great charger war for shit no one wants.
    I’m just giddy.
