Backpedaling on energy is politically inevitable – even Biden will embrace hydrocarbons if in power, there is no other choice

…he’ll turn his back on the ultra-activists he had to placate on the election trail because, well, he won’t have any choice. Should he get into power, the US will by then have a debt problem of monumental proportions, will be facing unprecedented bankruptcies as coronavirus chickens come home to roost, and he’ll have a thousand problems to deal with without creating a huge new one. 1. It is an old movie, I will have to imdb the title. The plot was they had one 90 year old guy, who knew how to fly, so they pulled a fighter jet out of mothballs to hunt down the last civilian still using fossil fuels.

Burgess Meredith, that’s why I remember the movie. ‘The Last Chase’.

  2. I give Biden a grand total of one month as President until “health” problems force him to resign. Harris is such a profoundly reprehensible and wretched human being, she will plunge fully in Chavista mode

  3. Possibly the Ontario and German experience is breaking through? German? Oh, this… https://wattsupwiththat.com/2020/09/17/german-electricity-imports-hit-new-record-rise-43-3-percent-in-first-half-of-2020/

Nah, who am I kidding. Banning on public lands is simple, Obama basically did that. Someone finally realized that Bernie was calling for nationalizing all land in the country, then banning on public lands. Joe doesn’t want the pitchfork and shotgun crowd chasing him down. Or maybe Joe just decided it’s time for a nap. Either way, postpone the glorious revolution.

  4. As a rebuttal, I give you California. Whodathunk they would shut down viable power generation plants and then do rolling blackouts when temps were over 100 degrees, but they seem fine with it, as the people who can’t take it anymore flee, lowering the state’s collective IQ daily.

  5. US oil production began its rapid rise – almost entirely on state and private lands – during the Obama presidency. Whatever Biden says now, he sure didn’t have a problem with the growth of drilling for hydrocarbons back then.

  6. “Biden will embrace hydrocarbons if in power”

    That’s a a big if.

No matter the results of the election Biden won’t be “in power”.

  7. Couple of contentious issues with the article. Wretched Knothead only half heartedly supported the industry. She put anti-oil activists in charge of natural resources that hindered, not helped. Dear Leader purchased Trans Mountain the same way and reason Pierre bought out Pacific 66. It was to punish Alberta not to help. Building the ridiculous tall building from Italian Red granite inCalgary was just to rub our noses and nothing else. Dear Leader purchased the pipe line to reward the Liberal CEO and to essentially moth ball it.

    1. Some factual errors … Finnish granite, cut and polished in Italy. The all glass proposal was rejected by the city. I never worked for Petro Banana but did work in the east tower for several years and it was the nicest office I had in the 30 years of Calgary office work …. the heating and cooling and air flow for each office was adjustable and worked as it should without freezing or cooling your neighbour. We were allowed to join the fitness centre up on top of the tall tower a great facility for running when it was 20 below … 16 laps to a mile if I remember correctly.

In May 1980, a $200-million design was proposed with an all glass, three tower design including a 25-storey tower to be completed in 1982 and a larger 50-storey tower completed later in 1983.[10] The Calgary Planning Commission would reject the proposal in Fall 1980 as the site was not large enough for the density three towers would provide, and the all-glass design was not desirable for the city, subsequently Petro-Canada would purchase the air rights from the neighbouring Calgary Chamber of Commerce for $2.5 million and submit receive approval for a granite clad two-tower design with an density bonus option of four storeys on the smaller tower.[1]

Construction on the complex began on April 2, 1982.[1] During construction, local controversy arose when no Canadian bids were received to supply the site with exterior granite cladding, which resulted in the use of $500,000 of Finnish granite, which was cut and polished in Italy and shipped to the Calgary site for installation.

  8. Flaws in the argument. First, you assume Biden and his Dem eco-zealots actually care about the average individual. They never have in the past. Why would they start now? They’ll create the problem, then point fingers at the states and the eeeeeevil capitalists for failing to solve it. Second, read Solzhenitsyn’s description of the increase in beef production under Stalin as over-zealous district commissars conducted mass slaughters of the herds to meet and exceed completely unrealistic short-term quotas for meat production. With lefties, short term ideological conformity will trump long term sustainability every time. Likewise with energy production. The lefties will gladly see whole regions freezing in the dark if it allows them to trumpet their “green” bona fides in the comfort of their government supplied heated dachas. Reality is for chumps.

  9. Here in CA we have PSPS Power Shutdowns which have become the “new normal” (God, do I HATE that term).

    https://www.pge.com/en_US/safety/emergency-preparedness/natural-disaster/wildfires/public-safety-power-shutoff-faq.page

Our power is being systematically SHUT OFF! Softening us up for longer, more permanent outages. All in the name of … safety. COVID has provided the template for State POWER to literally destroy the entire US economy on the basis of … “public safety”. Yes, I foresee gasoline becoming “banned” … Natural Gas is already all but banned here in CA. Can’t commute to work? Tough! Move to the big city where everyone is politically-Blue.

Tear it all down ma’aaan! By Any Means Necessary

  10. “….his leanings….”
This is a misnomer designed to shield the very same puppeteers who controlled Obama. Such discussion is non sequiturial.
    So… the fuel gage… Volvo?
