Visit The Washington Monument While You Still Can

It wasn’t hyperbole. It was prediction.

Washington, D.C., Mayor Muriel Bowser said Tuesday she looks forward to advancing the recommendations made in a report that urged her to remove, relocate or contextualize the Washington Monument because of its “disqualifying” history.

The District of Columbia Facilities and Commemorative Expressions (DCFACES) said in a report Monday that it was tasked with evaluating whether statues and memorials in the city should be removed or contextualized if the historical figures they represent participated in “slavery, systemic racism, mistreatment of, or actions that suppressed equality for, persons of color, women and LGBTQ communities and violation of the DC Human Right Act.”

The working group recommended that Bowser, a Democrat, use her position on the National Capital Memorial Advisory Commission to support the removal or contextualization of the Christopher Columbus Fountain, the Benjamin Franklin Statue, the Andrew Jackson Statue and the Jefferson Memorial.

  1. While they are at it, why not rename Washington? Maybe call it Floydville. Then there is Columbus, it could be renamed Blaketown.

Also streets will have to change.

    The possibilities are endless.

Better shut up now, someone might take me seriously.

  2. The full list of monuments to be removed, relocated or “contextualized” is as follows:

    1. Christopher Columbus – Columbus
    Fountain
    2. Benjamin Franklin – Benjamin Franklin
    Statue
    3. Andrew Jackson – Andrew Jackson Statue
    4. Thomas Jefferson – Jefferson Memorial
    5. George Mason – George Mason Memorial
    6. Francis Griffith Newlands – Newlands
    Memorial Fountain
    7. Albert Pike – Albert Pike Statue
    8. George Washington – Washington
    Monument, George Washington Statue

The Washington Monument and Jefferson Memorial will remain, because they are among the landmarks Chinese tourists returning to America after the overthrow and assassination of President Trump will want to see. “Contextualization” presumably means addition of “interpretative panels” reminding visitors what naughty men the Founders were. The Chinese will get to feel superior to the imperialists that way.

Andrew Jackson’s statue is far more likely to be removed, to spite President Trump, his best-known admirer in the United States today.

(Jackson’s greatest crime in the eyes of our masters was not the much-ballyhooed Trail of Years, but abolishing the United States’ first central bank and returning to the American people their sovereign right to issue money and regulate its value. America’s bankers never forgave Jackson for that.)

  3. Here’s another prediction: if it hasn’t happened already for many this will be the last straw and it’ll be SHTF time.

  4. I was also wondering what they were going to call the US capital in order to erase the Washington curse.

Oh, by the way, there is a large chunk of the west coast just south of BC that is also going to need a new name also.

  5. The only Memorials to these Racist Marxist will be the pile of Turds in San-Fran… AKA The Walk of Shame….An unknown group of delusional piss-ant, puss oozing critters who don’t understand NO!…You shoot rabid Critters…

  6. Muriel needs to stop drinking and doing narcotics because she is sounding more deranged each and every day.

  7. “slavery, systemic racism, mistreatment of, or actions that suppressed equality for, persons of color, women and LGBTQ communities and violation of the DC Human Right Act.”

No one who died before 1977 could have violated the DC Human Right Act because it didn’t exist before then.

But I expect they will blame ancient historical figures for not keeping to the Act on the theory that the contents are so obviously just that these figures should have KNOWN even two centuries ago what was going to be in it.

  8. I think it would be best to break up the Federal government bureaucracies and scatter it throughout the country. As the saying goes, the economy will come OUT of recession as soon as D.C. goes INTO one.

    1. It seems to me that DJT has been trying to break up federal bureaucracies and just leave them broken up, which is an even better plan.

    2. Agreed, in addition, I have no problem moving monuments and tourist destinations from DC to somewhere in the center of the country. I would especially like to move the Smithsonian. What a tourism boon it would be for some city and state.
I say, let DC commit economic suicide.

  9. I’m sure people can’t wait to visit the huge statue of George Floyd when it replaces the Washington monument.

  10. Democrats are no longer Americans. There are all aliens or mutant lizards. They no longer speak a language that conforms to rational norms. The Mayor of DC should not be allowed to speak to any subject unrelated to her municipal mandates until she has ensured sustainable funding for her municipal employees’ pensions, brought her black homicides down to the national average of non blacks, and proved that she understands the US Constitution.

  11. The places mentioned at the link are all on federal land and obviously will get the most attention. The mayor can recommend all she wants, but she has no power over them.

But it’s a good idea to look at the entire list, which dozens and dozens more buildings and statues that are on DC land, to get an idea of how wide-sweeping this proposal is.

  12. Considering the shape and orientation of the Washington Monument, it’s surprising that feminists hadn’t called for its removal decades ago.

  13. Since women were on the list, I guess we’ll need to consider getting rid of the MLK memorial since he apparently has a “disqualifying” history:

    https://www.archives.gov/files/research/jfk/releases/docid-32989551.pdf#page=18

“When one of the women protested that she did not approve of unnatural sex acts, the Baptist minister immediately and forcibly raped her. King looked on, laughed, and offered advice.”

I wonder how it would go down if a large group of Me Too women of color showed up with some chains and a tractor to topple his monument in D.C.

  14. Recontectualize…hmm…that monument carries a rough equivalent of the longest finger. Now just build a few more folded digits and align with city DC city hall.
