Health Canada changes its mind about home tests for COVID-19;

Health Canada is willing to consider approving home COVID-19 tests to screen for the virus, a spokesman for the minister of health told Reuters, in a win for public health experts and doctors who have argued that frequent and inexpensive testing could beat back the pandemic.
 
The health ministry had previously said it was concerned that people might misuse home tests or misinterpret the results. […]
 
Screening tests are meant to monitor large groups of seemingly healthy people for illness, while diagnostic tests investigate symptoms.
 
The change could allow for self collection, where samples are sent to a lab for processing, and spur the development of new tests to detect the virus at home.
 
Home tests may be more likely to miss positive cases than the laboratory tests. Regulators generally want those errors to be vanishingly rare, since patients who do not realize they are contagious could spread the virus.
 
But advocates argue that cheap, rapid tests could more than make up for any reduced sensitivity if they can be used to test many people daily or weekly, and are very unlikely to miss people who are sick enough to be contagious.

  2. Probably 2nd week of November. You can’t keep the numbers up where you want/need them unless unless you test everything that moves. Kind of like the DEM’s… vote early, vote often.

    As for Health Canada “changing its mind”
    So far they have given no one any reason to assume they have one.
    The entire fiasco of Health Canada’s communications with regard to the Wuhan Flu,AKA Deadly New Virus,has been a classic “Members of the Committee” inability to reason or communicate.

    If they opened the economy and schools and everything now and nobody died they all look like idiots.
    They will come up with some kind of BS vaccine and claim that it saved everybody.
    It doesn’t matter what is in the vaccine, it could be pure water, but it will be the miracle that saves us all.

  6. Anyone see the (new) CDC numbers from the USA.

    They goofed and counted way to many deaths that were “not” Virus deaths.
    So in small talk, the numbers of CV crashed.

    1. Dustoff, the CDC’s new numbers of sars-cov-2 only deaths , is 9210, a damn site lower then 170,000

  13. Covid Testing

    Granddaughter works at a supermarket. She says the pregnancy test kits are being stolen as fast as they stock the shelves. Stay tuned for a Covid baby boom. Wonder if there will be more babies born than old folks who would have died within the year with or without Covid.
