Whenever you read a media story about how we’re heading toward catastrophe if we continue operating “business as usual” — i.e., if we don’t slash carbon emissions — the reports are almost always referring to a model simulation using RCP8.5. And you can bet that nowhere in the story will they explain that RCP8.5 is an implausible worst-case scenario that was never meant to represent a likely base case outcome, or that scientists have begun castigating its usage as a prediction of a doomed business-as-usual future.
The term RCP8.5 refers to a greenhouse gas emissions scenario often used by scientists for climate model projections. You might never have heard of RCP8.5 but you have definitely heard of forecasts based on it. Listening to the politicians who make the strongest pleas for radical climate action, it is clear that their fears for the future are driven by RCP8.5 scenarios, yet it is also clear that they have no idea what it is or what is wrong with it.
The Cult of Calamitous Climate requires neither facts nor data.
The Cult is post normal science.

When one considers the scale of the global rent seeking bounty available to those willing to “study further” or “resolve” the pending “disaster” with mythological wind and solar “solutions”, there is no reason to ponder why those in the loop err on the hysterical end of the guess work.
The fact that a UN organization would use the extreme end of climate projections is perfectly in line with the IPCC’s Stated Goal:

Like many others here, I have known that catastrophic MMGW was a hoax from pretty much the start. Emotion, virtue-preening and politics almost immediately replaced science and factual debate. Their proclamation that “the science is settled” was about as unscientific a proclamation as it gets. Now, some 20 or so yrs later, not a single one of dozens of promised coming disasters has happened. Ha, not only that, there is still zero evidence that any of them are in the process of happening anytime soon.
Computer models with a 100% failure rating and they STILL have the balls to cite their output? These people are not scientists, they are purely activists.
When the media runs such a doom and gloom story, it never provides a counter point. On the other hand, the media always tracks down the local Green Peace hippie to “de-bunk” every good news story where it has been supported that things are normal.
They are all wrong and it is not necessary to read or believe any of them. Those of you who will be alive 30 years from will find I am right. I however will be long gone.
I used to simply accept global warming as a scientific fact until Climategate. After that I can accept absolutely nothing. When the leading scientists in the field conspire to fake their results, nothing they ever said or ever will say is believable. End of story.

I’m doing my part. I totally understand that if we don’t increase carbon emissions, we’re all going to freeze to death. When I get home from work, I leave my truck idling all night long. I’m spending alot more for gasoline than I want to, but I think it’s my duty as a citizen of the world.
