The premise of the left is the advancement of statism (socialism and or fascism) meaning the state is supreme to the individual and the state is justified in the use of force against any non-conforming individual for an unlimited growing number of laws and regulations deemed for the “greater good”. Rights, to the left, are what the state grants to groups and individuals regardless of what obligations they force on others. The end game of the left is always gulags and concentration camps so why would they not advocate killing people for their cause?

Progressivism is not a derivative of liberalism, aka individualism, as statists and collectivists argue without merit.
In liberalism (the real thing not BS progressive, socialist, fascist bastardizations), recognizes the supremacy of the individual to whom rights are granted by nature, or God if you prefer. The key to that idea is no person, or by extension the state can grant or take away those rights, which are universal. Anything that imposes an unwanted obligation on anyone can never be a right.
Call it what you want, but not a right.
Western societies were built on idea of individualism, which was a response to the power excesses of kings.
It worked and progressed civil society with rationality and liberty until the likes of Rousseau, Marx and Mao came around to assert the supremacy of the state, but with decisions made by flawed power hungry people, the neo-regals, aka the swamp.
That is the future of unchecked big government. Statists will never believe big government is not good government.
These people always remind me of a past incident in my life. Some very NDP/Liberal former clients told me once that there were way too many people in the world and that a good pandemic was needed to clear out all the “useless eaters”.
I suggested that they kill their grandchildren, their daughter and son-in-law and then themselves, perhaps with poisoned kool-ade like the Jim Jonestown massacre in 1979. They told me to “Shut up and never talk to them again”. I considered that a win.

Case in point, when I was younger I thought out loud of an editorial cartoon depicting PET doing to a beaver what he was doing to Canada. I was reprimanded by an older and wiser conservative and told that we don’t do crap like that. Fast forward to today, editorial cartoons are depicting President Trump throwing seniors into volcanoes and under busses. As far as the left is concerned, it is anything goes.

Yet some pretty extreme leftists are praising him for his leadership because he choose to unite rather than divide. Once the crisis passes these leftist will go back to hating Ford but the fact that, even temporarily, the choose to bury the hatchet is a testament to Ford’s choices.
Hillary was one of the first to ask the birther question. As for uniting the country thats a tall order given he is fighting against the media, Dems and Hollywood. But he is doing a much more united country than Obama left him.
