The Canadian emergency response benefit is part of the Canadian government’s massive relief package to taxpayers in the midst of the global pandemic.
 
Unfortunately for those same taxpayers, Trudeau has snuck non-Canadians onto the list of who qualifies for that lucrative $8,000 per person bail out.
 
International students, most of whom come from China, are among those eligible. So are temporary foreign workers.

  3. In case anyone is looking at the numbers: we had 1552 new cases recorded today. highest incremental increase so far. We are not anywhere near peaking. At this rate we will be Italy/Spain by early next week.

    Global kill rate is above 5.2% and climbing. Tell me again how the fact that there is undertesting makes things better. I haven’t heard this one since yesterday.

    BTW here is how one should calculate the Wuhan Kung flu kill count (not rate just count),
    1. Average Canadian deaths for this day for the last decade.
    2. The difference between deaths today and the average from last ten days (adjusted for changes in average age and population growth) is how many Canadians have been killed because of Chinese bio weapon and Blackie’s incompetence.
    This would for example include all people who would have lived if they were afforded optimal (by Canadian standards) level of healthcare or for any other reasons.
    Sure, this is not a controlled experiment but it is close enough.

    3. Quebec knew they had a massive problem over two weeks ago when the Premier came out and said he wanted to cordon off the entire island of Montreal. Now we know why. I suspect that when the latin countries of Europe (Italy, Spain, France) started exploding with cases, Quebec was much more impacted. Basically, the West Coast got their cases from Asia. Quebec got theirs from mainland Europe. And the RoC got theirs from the US.

            By the time US infections were showing in up large numbers so were ours (about second week of March). We were both already infected from outside, and yes, after that we probably kept infecting each other. Spring break idiots contributed greatly. But that is after the outbreak already occurred in both countries. All or nearly all early recorded cases were identified and sourced. Browse news from weeks ago and you will see. These came to Canada primarily from China (BC and Ontario) and Iran (Ontario also first identified Quebec case IIRC).

      Italy has had ~20,000 deaths from influenza alone every year for the last four years. So far Kung Flu has only reached about two-thirds of that total (and the death count is being badly confounded because they appear to be lumping this year’s influenza deaths in there as well).

      The reason the death count in Italy is so high is that Italy has a very old, very infirm population, many of whom were heavy smokers their entire life, living tightly packed in second-world conditions. Plus the enclave of 100,000 Han Chinese in Lombardy that were shuttling back and forth to Wuhan during the outbreak in China.

      TL;DR: you can’t use China, Iran or Italy as a model for anything. They’re not even remotely representative, and the data is hopelessly corrupt.

      The best and most representative data sample we have so far is the Diamond Princess: Population of 3,711; 3,618 were tested; only 696 tested positive for Kung Flu and 410 of those were still asymptomatic after two weeks. Twelve deaths, every single one of which was over 60; all but one were over 70. The demographic curves also show that the disease tends to hit those over 60.

      So actual infection rate: 20%
      – If you’re under 60: about 10%
      Showing symptoms: 7.7%
      Mortality rate: 0.3%
      – If you’re under 70: 0.025%

      Everybody needs to settle the fuck down.

On Feb 1, 2020 … the CDC announced that 19 Million Americans had contracted all types of Flu (except COVID-19) so far this Flu season, and that 10,000 had died from non COVID-19 Flu … thus far this Flu Season. 12-13,000 people die from the Flu every single year … every single year.

When was the last time a flu overwhelmed a western medical system? When was the last time they were swamped with flu patients to the point that they were unplugging 65 year olds from ventilators?

        Your assessment of Italy situation is bullshit. The outbreak occurred in Lombardy which is among the richest regions of Italy and indeed Europe. The standard of living in Lombardy is very high and the health care is first rate.

        Your statistics drawn from Diamond Princes are also bullshit and have been refuted already. Here is the short version of it: once cases were detected on board, the ship was put in quarantine and passengers were locked in cabins. Those who shared ventilation channels with cabins that housed the initially infected passengers also got infected. They got infected after the quarantine was imposed. Those whose cabin ventilation channels were not shared with the initially infected did not get infected. Hence the infection rate was not calculated on a random sample but on a sample that included a huge proportion of people who had no chance of getting infected.

    5. Your 5% kill rate is wrong according to many sources available to you and others. I will state this again for those who are less than able to read. A year ago 3,177,204 people died from the FLU, got that?

  8. The EI people told me today I get nothing and I am a Canadian citizen. I have been unemployed >12 months (in my fifties – too expensive to hire apparently) so did not contribute to E.I. in the last calendar year. So illegals get money but citizens don’t? How is that fair?

      3. Son is in university. International students got hired for that tiny handful of co-op jobs left. He is a Canadian, with real work experience and higher grades. He got rejected everywhere. But we are not upset: going to work in this situation might mean a death sentence. But still!

        1. And if they are paid as grad students they are still getting paid you abortion bucket reject. TAs are still TAs, courses were moved online so TA’s job got easier. RAs are still RAing and no funding was withdrawn because of Wuhan. Senior grad students who sometimes teach courses had to move their courses online and are still getting paid. None of them lost money. None. Summer semesters will be taught online exclusivelly. Senior grad students often teach those. Again no loss of income. Given that you don’t know that, I doubt that you actually found a university pathetic enough to rubber stamp your MS.
