55 Replies to “How To Tell If We’re Beating COVID-19”

  1. How do you factor in jurisdictions like Alberta that are run by bumblefuques who can’t get their collective shit together when it comes to testing and diagnosis while they put their fingers in their ears and go BLAH BLAH BLAH every day from the legislature.

    1. Alberta is doing very good compared to other provinces. So glad we got rid of the communists under Notley!

      1. No, this is not about Notley. Alberta is severely undertesting right now which is why detection counts in Alberta are so low. The problem with cross province comparisons are different testing regimes and so average across those are garbage.

Canadian combined counts and ratios are currently driven by Quebec numbers while all recoveries seem to be miraculously occurring in BC. https://www.covid-19canada.com It is really embarrassing how unreliable and noisy Canadian data is https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/country/canada/

I wish I could see graphs by province.

        1. This raises the question, are the tests accurate? Many are saying no. Some are completely wrong , some test kits do not work properly as they are defective. Just what are we testing? Will the test pick up other viruses? I would question even a graph from any province.

          1. There are tests that pick up the presence of virus in the blood, and tests that check for an immune response. The former indicates you are sick, the latter that you have been exposed. As far as I know the tests we are using the viral detection one. Tests are designed to pick up the specific proteins related to the virus or the body’s immune response to it.

The tests initially shipped by the CDC in the US were faulty, but ours worked acceptably well. Nothing is perfect, and there aren’t enough tests to go around, so the actual number of cases is likely quite a bit higher than is reported. If you consider this larger population of infected then the death rate would be lower. Good news of sorts, but even if the mortality rate would be as low as 0.5%, we may still run out of ICU beds and ventilators.

          1. Thanks, I have seen already. It is not what I was looking for. I would like to see detection over time by province. I kept compiling that data from other sources just recording daily results but was hoping someone did that for me.

      2. Notley started the ruination of my retirement fund and Trudeau and the Wuhoo Flu have accelerated it; fortunately the fund will recover from the Wuhoo Flu but it will require a year or so after a new government before the other evil losses are restored.

    2. What The F are you blathering about..??

Seems to me we is doing pretty good out here. WE don’t have thousands cruising boardwalks along Kits Beach now do we.?? The Streets are virtually Empty as are the parks and other places folks would normally congregate. Most stores have put in place Social Distancing measures and for the most, folks comply…why the Fk wouldnt ya right.?? I d say our Lead Dr in the Province has done an Excellent job as have all of our health professionals…looking after not only Albertans, but many from BC and Saskatchewan.

So I’m not so sure what your outburst of verbal Diarrhea is all about..??

Now we do have a fair amount of Commie loving UNIFOR Justin ass kissing garbage in Edmonton. We know…K? It’s a Canker and been there for years…one day it shall be dealt with…

    3. I didn’t think Covid was supposed to lower IQ….but apparently Morroco Mole might be the first.

Yes monumental excess cremation urns needed for the remains that were fed into the incinerators that they had to order without delay!

I don’t know about anybody else but the combination of incinerator purchases and cremation urn deliveries doesn’t smell like a “SUCCESS” story; unless you are Hillary Clinton.

    1. At least someone found a good use for her book, just in case toilet paper’s no longer available.

  3. Some of us don’t believe any numbers coming out of either Red China or any of its globalist western allies.

The official numbers are meaningless. China is lying. Iran is lying. Italy is lying. Spain is lying. California is lying. New York State is lying. They’re all lying.

Few politicians dare admit the truth—the Chinese released a bioweapon that will kill one percent of humanity, if we’re lucky—300,000 in Canada alone—and our elites did less than nothing to stop it because they valued Chinese money over their own people’s lives.

Don’t believe a word you hear from any government on its roaring success in containing COVID-19 until three things happen:

    1. Schools re-open to the public nationwide. Teachers, an important part of the “base” of all globalist parties, will refuse to return to work unless, and until, they are certain that someone else’s snot-nosed brat can no longer give them the virus.

    2. Foreign governments re-open their borders to visitors from the country, on the advice of their intelligence agencies.

    3. The national parliament re-opens, returning to regular business unrelated to the epidemic.

In the case of Canada, don’t believe a word from Justin’s mouth about sunny days being here again until:

    2. The US re-opens the border by order of President Trump.

    3. Justin is willing to return to the House of Commons to face a confidence vote, an election and almost certain defeat—or to take his walk in the snow and let Chrystia be the next Kim Campbell.

    1. let Chrystia be the next Kim Campbell

Or, worse, the next John Turnip. PET wanders in the snow, Turner becomes PM, and is turfed from office by Mulruin. JT, however, didn’t resign right away and continued as Opposition Leader for another 6 years, losing another election to Lyin’ Brian along the way.

    2. Whatever the truth about this being from a bio-weapons lab (I don’t know, it’s possible) I think this incident will curb nations’ military planners from considering bio-weapons in the future, rather like the disasterous use of gas in WWI; you can’t control who it hits.

And I agree with you that the numbers are at best unreliable, probably meaningless and I don’t trust the government to tell the truth even if they knew it. But, Remember This, incompetence is a stronger force than conspiracy. I certainly hope, after this fiasco, someone follows up with a study of real numbers for those infected, probably by testing for anti-bodies in a large random sample of the population; this is vital information..

    3. There is no country anywhere near 1%.

Empirical data (NOT MODELS) from DiamondPrincess South Korea & Iceland data sets are showing that overall COVID19 mortality is going to come in between 0.03%-0.2% of total pop. NOT 1-2% of pop.

      1. And in fact, the Diamond Princess actually might be the best data set there is (although very small). There are other cruise ships still out there and the data from them is critical to gather to widen the sample.

  4. 12 Experts Questioning the Coronavirus Panic

I thought maybe this was 12 “Truthers” but they are actually well qualified medical professionals including Michael Osterholm who was on a podcast with Joe Rogan recently. A podcast that SDA linked to. I think the truth lies between what our leaders are saying and what these guys say. When we get to the point that we have enough treatments, testing, AI tracking of the virus spread and respirators to ensure the death rate is no greater than normal flu, we’ll go back to work. Not going back to work until we get to zero cases is like Trump said “The cure is worse than the disease”.

    1. Interesting points, but it’s hard to tell if we are overreacting or not because there are still so many unknowns. Better to err on the side of caution.

It’s far too soon to consider opening this up again. The decision shouldn’t be based on zero deaths, but in ICU capacity, and be taken after the peak has been reached. And we only know the peak has arrived after it has passed.

      1. GatineauGuv – Agree. The idea of isolating only the most vulnerable and those known to have been exposed makes sense but only after we have in place approved treatments and enough ICU beds and respirators to handle projected cases. Testing millions for infection AND recovery, and tracking every exposed person are also key.

    1. Militarized Chinese Virus.
That is one literal interpretation of Wuhan Virus. Wu as in wushu, martial arts. Han as in Han ethnic group, the predominant ethnic group is China. Often Han is used to mean Chinese.

    1. They should add Juthtin’s whereabouts when he was flouncing around Africa spending our money while this was breaking.

  5. WHO Jan 14
“Preliminary investigations conducted by the Chinese authorities have found no clear evidence of human-to-human transmission of the novel #coronavirus (2019-nCoV) identified in #Wuhan, #China,”

    WHO Director-General Ghebreyesus Feb 4
“We reiterate our call to all countries not to impose restrictions that unnecessarily interfere with international travel and trade.”

    WHO Director-General Ghebreyesus Mar 25
“The time to act was actually a month ago, two months ago.”

And our Dear Leader Justin Trudeau says we follow the WHO, same with Democratic leaders in US and main stream media.

  6. Food for thought. And this might get me slammed but I think it is still a valid question. How many people who are dying of Wuhan virus would have died by the end of this year from other causes?

We will have to make a tough decision; when do we let people go back to work? And under what conditions?

Yes, Governor Cuomo, every life is precious, but we let people drive and 30 to 40 thousand die every year.

What we don’t know? How many people are really dying in China. And in Italy and Spain, how many are dying with Wuhan virus as opposed to because of Wuhan? I suspect, but don’t know, that many would have died this year of their underlying health issues, or have died in the next flu season.

Again, a difficult decision, but worthy of discussion, as SDA readers may be able to come up with an acceptable answer as to when and how to go back to work.

    1. Joe it will be a decision that will have to be made. People like my wife and I were forced to quarantine with no preparation and limited ability to get food and other supplies. Many of those quarantined will start running out of things because they have no money and no one to supply them and will not die because of a government edict. The shit will hit the fan. The every life is precious is true in regards to that persons relationships but not to anyone else. Does anyone here in Canada care who dies that is not a friend or relative? As far a death goes, 8,727, 670 people die of heart disease every year. 6,221,072 die of stroke, 3,177,204 die of, “flu”, those are just a few of the 50 million plus that die every year. Sanity will eventually have to prevail.

      1. Your personal situation is regrettable, but you did have plenty of warning. I hope you come through this and have people in your life on whom you can relay for help. I am lucky in this regard, and words can’t express how grateful I am.

It may be true people don’t care about other people dying, but that doesn’t make it right.

        1. We had no warning you moron, if you don’t like the insult too freaking bad.

          1. But you did have a warning: it was in the news since January. Did you really thing that in today’s interconnected world it would just stay in Wuhan? Did you think that once it appeared here life would just continue as normal? Are you such a special snowflake that it would pass you over? You would have to be exceptionally naive to think so.

          2. BS GG, the quarantine was started while we were on vacation. Get your head out sport.

    2. If ICUs are saturated with corona those resources aren’t available for treating the usual run-of-the-mill medical problems, so deaths from other conditions will climb too. It appears this is what happened in parts of Italy, which is scary because their medical resources are comparable to ours.

Sweden has a superb medical system, and are testing and contract tracing like mad. Also, swedes really do look to the state to sort everything out for them, and if you tell a swede to stay home he will. The same approach will not work in the east end of Vancouver.

Or maybe the the weak and elderly are the enemy of commerce. Just as Churchill sacrificed Coventry to win the war, so too must we say goodbye to grandma and grandpa. I have my bank account to think of.

      1. There isn’t a political, medical or any other system capable of reacting to any real crisis at any time. This will run it’s course and when enough people have been infected and recovered the virus will be remembered not because of it’s severity but because of the insanity it caused.

    3. The cause of death for most old people is pneumonia, even though their real illness was something else.

  7. What I’d like to see for any large company accepting taxpayer money because of this crisis:
    1. No executive bonuses for ten years.
    2. No executive pay raises for ten years.
    3. No stock buybacks for ten years.

I’m a fan of capitalism but not socialist capitalism; which is where execs get bonuses when companies make money, taxpayers cough up when they loose money, and the execs take that money and give themselves bonuses.

    1. I posted that Edmonton Journal chronology as well. When we regain our sanity its getting sent to Scheer, Singh, and May.
Juthtin and his Cabal need jail time. That Tam woman needs to be caned along with Hadju.

      https://www.statista.com/statistics/443061/number-of-deaths-in-canada/
Almost 288,000 Canadians died last year. That’s just shy of 800 a day.

As I stated yesterday, it is extremely quiet where I live but a fire station and a hospital are not far. Usually I’d hear at least a siren an hour, maybe more.
I haven’t heard a siren in days and days.

      1. The Corporate State is their ideal solution. Calling it ‘socialism’ , National or Communist is old school. In either case all roads lead to Government Control. Do we really think the money ‘budgeted’ for this ’emergency’ will not result in economic collapse ?

  8. This chart doesn’t take into account increased testing, the severity of cases, or the fatality rate.
Countries that increase testing will have more cases, but more of those cases will be mild, and the fatality rate will decrease.
Early testing focuses on cases that are symptomatic, serious enough to warrant medical intervention, and subject to known risk factors. As test capacity increases, it starts being applied to cases that are largely asymptomatic or mildly symptomatic.
This may be Chinese propaganda. It immediately paints China as a winner and the US as bumbling and incompetent.

  9. If you believe that you are conservative or right-wing, however you define yourself, you have to make up your mind.
You beotch and moan about rampant immigration. But then you beotch and moan about the genocidal left and green.
Make up your mind! Do you want 70 billion people in the 3d world, or do you not?
If you want them, why and for what purpose? To sell you crap to them? Fine! But do not beotch or moan when 10-20 billion of them show up at your doorstep with their religion, infections, noise, garbage-scattering habits, etc. Make up your mind.
It is nice for Kate to live on a farm in the middle of nowhere and moan of how the left wants the world de-populated! Very cute-sounding posts!
But if you ever lived among the new Canadians, you would have changed your tune radically, drastically, and immediately. Living among them is a torture that you are not aware of. You also do not have children from what it looks like. Because of that you have no idea what kind of 7 circles of hell Canadian education had become. Those new Canadians now account for up to 80% of the teaching staff. You can imagine how they teach! But you still insist on more and more people on Earth from your secluded paradise. Here’s the reality check from the hell hole that your propaganda is turning Canada into: you preach for our destruction. The Earth is full and it cannot take any more. It is time to depopulate, otherwise it will be hell on Earth.

  10. There was more information in that 7 minute video than the last 3 weeks of MSM blather.

  11. I guess you never let the truth interfere with your narrative. Alberta is the most tested jurisdiction in North America, per capita.

We are now up to 3500/day.

  12. Meanwhile, the Sun publishes two disgusting editorial cartoons in a row. Saturday by Dolighan and today by Susan Dewar. Both claiming Trump is killing seniors to restart the economy. I’m really disappointed that (former) Sun Media would allow such blatant leftist propaganda BS to be published.

  13. SWEDEN is going to be THE shitshow to watch.

But hey, their Socialist masters know better..right?
Identical to our gender Balanced Socialist IMBECILES. Sweden, Inundated with Syrian, Nigerian, Somali Islamic garbage who will ALL of course self Isolate…??

Folks we could end up witnessing the DEATH of Political Correctness …COVID knows no politics nor national border. I predict bloodbath.

  14. I understand the argument thanks to RMC forcing me to take a calculus course and half courses in statistics and differential calculus. I’d like to add physics to the list but was hopeless, scratching out a D. Chemistry might have helped.

For the vast majority, it’s different; reminds me of my second year computer science instructor; we were good up to good afternoon, but lost from there. In the victims of our science/math illiterate school system, he could have stopped at exponential growth.

In this case he was a bad instructor, but essentially with the same result; except we had to somehow pass the course.

It’s not their fault, really but linear is all they know, so they are hopeless at understanding because they can’t think in those terms.

It’s almost as if they’re more afraid of math than the virus, the panic in people is palpable, sure we’ll be locked down for months before “we can breathe again.” Oh yea someone said that on FB when I tried to wax optimistic.

Frankly it’s easier to be afraid. And not have to go to work. That’s the conclusion I’m drawing.

Progress is made at the margin. Slowing the rate of change is explainable to zero is explainable Many understand that, groundhog day syndrome persists; the legacy of the 24/7 media with its ignorant, arrogant scare tactics has shown itself.

That now some of, despicables they be, have turned themselves from the 4th estate to the 5th column.
