Human misery may spread like a virus itself as economic consequences unfold

We are about to see people’s lives turned upside down for an unknown period of time, which could impact global incomes particularly in places that have few other options. What will happen to localized economies that are built on tourism, in otherwise not-wealthy regions? Can we even begin to calculate that? What will happen to the health and well-being of families impacted whether or not they ever get near coronavirus? A profound lesson in what happens when established economic microclimates are disrupted. Read on…

  1. If people are laid off and lose their incoms for any period of time, prepare for the hunger games. Chaos will ensue.

The reaction to the chicom flu is completely out of proportion to the risk.

    1. The globalists weren’t happy that the unwashed masses didn’t surrender to all that “climate change” horse puckey, so it has to resort to talking up a disease outbreak in the hope that the proles would finally learn their lesson and kowtow.

    2. When people run out of money, then food.. Their only option will be to take it..In Canaduh! because of our gov. we will only be able to defend or supplies, and ourselves will be with sticks. or golfclubs.. Thanks lefties.

  2. There was a reason we called this civilization the Rat Race.
Very few can imagine it just stopping.
Yet in our racial history, for europeans anyway,is the Black Plague.
Life stopped in large regions, people died or moved closer to the still living, these regions were reclaimed by the forest.
Man eating wolves became part of our legends.
The darkness closed in on man.
This “memory” was reinforced by the Spanish Flu, a Canadian example is the Northern Labrador communities where so many died their starving dog teams ate the bodies.
The benefits of cheap reliable energy become very apparent when you are ill.
    Hot water on demand.
    Instant heat.
    Refrigerated food.
    Sewage removal.
Now try to imagine living where you have to gather wood, pack water, remove honey buckets and hunt for fresh food..
While wracked with the sweats, the fevers , the ague..
Gang Green claim we must stop enjoying the luxury of fossil fuels.
We are gonna get a sneak preview if we are not careful and lucky.

Civilization as we know it,depends on energy and competent persons performing the tasks necessary to keep it flowing.
Remove either and we are done.

    1. It’s -20 C where I am today. I’ve lived in the snow and cold and worked in it. For months at a time, that when visiting a normal town, we’d strip down to cool off, while having a meal. We kept our beer up in the rafters of the shack tent and concentrated the whiskey by leaving it on the floor under the bunk – whiskey slushies. I could survive if SHTF, but my neighbors can’t. A food source for me? Back in the days exploring for Uranium in northern Saskatchewan. Night time temps -50 to -60, daytime highs -35. About McMurray latitudes. Only 40 years ago. We’d sleep in the snow wrapped in a tarp, while waiting for the drill to get to a certain depth, then log the hole. My Ojibwa partner and I would play crib by the light (and heat) of a Coleman lantern while tucked in our sleeping bags in the snow. Watch the Northern Lights play above our heads. Not even a fire.

      1. TBH … I wouldn’t last a week in your harsh environment. I’m VERY worried moving into “snow country” Montana for my retirement escape from CA. I’m no slug, and am “handy” as I’ve built my own home. But I am wholly unprepared for the rigor and routine of a harsher environment.

        1. Back then “Globble Cooling” was the scientific norm…we were headed to an Ice Age. Look it up. How times have changed, eh? It’s cyclical. The Russkies are right on top of this stuff. There is a reason Kanadjians huddle along the USA/Kanaduh border and it isn’t for the cheaper gas and goodies next door. I’ve posted before, my town Cowtown is at 51 degrees North Latitude…the same as Moosonee, Ontario. Bottom of James Bay, a depression where the ice was thickest, last time round. Toronto, where everyone decides what happens in Kanaduh, is the same latitude as 100 kms north of the California/Oregon border….850 kms south of James Bay. Think about it.

          1. Funny that…was in Moosonee this Fall, Inspecting the New OPP Station being built. I had a Look before I left Calgary and saw it was nearly on an identical latitude as Calgary. Sunsets were identical – only thing missing in the West were Mountains.

Only way in is by Air Spring, Summer, Fall or the 4 times a week train and winter Ice road. Flew from YYC to YYZ, then missed my flight that evening to Timmins…rented an SUV and drove all night to catch my connecting flight the next morning out of Timmins INternational..that was a drive and a half.!!

Anyway, made it safe n sound. No paved roads in Moosonee….she’s quite the spot. But I gotta say, over my 3 day stay, I had some of the best meals in my entire life while staying at the Bunkhouse there…unreal good..!! Came back with a few small Fossils too.!

T’was an adventure..!! and the beginning of my chest pains. Another story

          2. Steakman: I’ve never been to Moosonee myself, but my Grandmother took the train there back in the late 60’s or early 70’s. She’s been everywhere. I have some fossils she got there off the beach and kept for me, as I had an interest in that kind of stuff from my early years. Still do…I made a career out of it. The fossils are around 400 million years old.
Done the Hwy 11 trip a few times, both ways, winter and summer, the closest I’ve ever been to Moosonee. Worked a couple of years on a lake roughly the same latittude as Red deer or Saskatoon, just inside the MB/ONT border, similar to the Moosonee latitude. The only people there were myself and partners for parts of two summers and US fishermen who paid for the privilege to be there for a week. They thought we had the dream job.
NW Ontario, well the Shield in essence, is some of the most rugged and scenic country in it’s own rights in Canada whichever Province you’re in. I’ve done ’em all because I’ve been just about everywhere myself. The rocks there are pretty old, 2.8 billion years, but you can still see the pillow lavas and tuffs, carbonate reefs with pretty much the original textures intact. The lake we worked on was a folded structure with the fold axis right down the middle of the lake, like an envelope. It was 700 feet deep in the middle. Sat for lunch one day on a small point and we used to peel the moss like sheets to see what was under it. A 2.5 foot vein of Cu-Pb-Zn-Ag dipping both directions into the lake. Good assays too at 2-3% for the base metals, too far from a road to make it worth your while and we were doing Gold exploration at the time. Phelps Dodge drilled the middle of the lake in the early 70’s. I doubt anyone has done any work there, since. I was there in 1989-90. We’d catch Pickerel right off the dock.

        2. Kenji, make a point of getting to know your neighbors. Watch their back, they’ll have yours.

        3. Take this simple should I move to Montana test:
Situation: The temperature is -25F and the North wind is blowing at 25MPH, the windchill is below -50.
          Your reaction possibilities:
          A) It’s cold out side. -> Sorry, perhaps Florida is more your style, enjoy Disneyland.
          B) It’s F’ing cold outside. -> Maybe try Mexico. Your retirement dollars will go far there.
          C) Buy more whisk(e)y. -> You may be able to adapt and become a Montanan some day in the future, but unlikely.
          D) Finally ! Time for fun, then spend hours gearing up for a life threatening adventure in the mountains. -> Welcome home.
          E) Buy more ammo. -> You’ll be miserable but we will help you through it.

        4. Don’t worry Kenji your blood will thicken in 2 years. Get out in it and let you body adjust. You may never be able to sleep in a tarp in the dead of winter but you will acclimate. Besides, if it’s ever so bad you need to lay in a tarp may as well rub bacon on it and feed the wolves.

        5. Kenji, your body will fairly quickly adjust to the climate/weather/temp differences. Those of us who live in four-season areas experience some of that with each seasonal change. You’ll be fine. (60 degrees in summer is flippin’ cold. In spring or fall — or winter — it’s shorts/T-shirt weather.) Also, Montana is mostly low-humidity. That will make things easier and much more comfortable, also in winter.

    2. Well, when they voted for Trudeau this is what they asked for.
      That aside.
There is this religious disporia living south of Woodstock Ontario and another that inhabits the country outside of Kitchener Ontario.
They may on occasion obtain resources from the “der henglish” but for the most part tend to forgo those modern conveniences.
Somehow I suspect they will have little to no problem making any adjustments.

    1. That’s NOT what the story says, the story is all about the companies waving overage fees for data caps. Many internet plans already DO NOT have data caps on wireline internet plans, above a certain speed.
I can assure you that as far as “handling the traffic”, if you are on fibreoptic internet with one of the Telcos, there is no issue. You could stream mutliple Netflix and Youtube streams to your hearts content. YOUR connection is dedicated, and yours alone. The equipment in the office uses 10GB cards in the RE/concentrator. There is no bottleneck, and its scalable upward. Its the best connectivity you can get, they are now offering 1GB internet subscriptions if you so desire, at this time, and no doubt, faster speeds will be available in the future.
If you’re on COAX with Shaw/Rogers/Videotron, you’re sharing bandwidth with your whole neighbourhood. DOCSYS is old technology that they keep tweaking and compressing. Whatever speed your account states, is a PEAK, OPTIMAL burst speed. Typically, your steady connection will be half. It basically states that on the Shaw website. Your chances of less than optimal connections, when your whole neighbourhood is streaming and binge watching, are higher than normal.

    2. Valid point, can the domestic internet capabilities all of a sudden handle the upsurge of traffic that will be unleashed next week, was there any contingency planning for this occurrence, or will the domestic servers fold like and overloaded card table. Should that occur there will be an unintended consequence of returning to cash with a resultant run on the banks. Hang on and enjoy the ride.

      1. See my comment above, its my day job.

Think of it this way, based on cocooning. The traffic is moving from work locations, to home locations.

Work locations can vary wildly in their connectivity, type and speed. Employees home services will arguably be faster than their corporate networks, hence, more data capable.

The providers have built-in redundancy to their networks, and some have taken steps to allow Netflix and YT streams to more efficiently be served on those networks.

It still comes down to this, if you had a crappy connection to begin with, its still a crappy connection. This situation will not adversely affect your High speed home internet, unless you’re on coax, as noted above.

        1. Thanks for the replies. I had put the link in my original question as relevant only in as much as the carriers are considering they can handle the surge; or else why encourage more data flow. It just seemed to me that the capacity will still be tested and not enough information to settle the question. Your comments fill some of that gap.

          1. Happy to help. Cellular is a whole different game however. There is potential for some densely populated areas to have the odd congestion period, where dropped calls can occur. That’s always a work in progress.

  3. The Chinese created a bioterror weapon which the globalists and their agents in western Deep States are helping to spread far and wide.

The persons responsible have access to ample supplies, the best health care on the planet, and the vaccine their agents swear doesn’t exist.

All they think they need to do now is wait for Americans to turn on their president as their parents die and their businesses fail. No expense, financial or human, will be spared in the interest of overthrowing Donald Trump, and I do mean none.

The President will still win in November. Americans will mourn their dead, and remember who is responsible. It will not be their president that they condemn at the polls.

    1. “their agents in western Deep States”

      Oh, you mean the Glozis.

      The Globalist Nazis.

Or as we call them in Canada on our nicer days – Liberals.

  4. Reminds me…so glad we are not hearing any climate change babble!

Our relaxed country pace continues…tapping maple trees today.

I was in Florida for a brief family visit last week (older sib with CA). Our return to Pearson on Friday was smooth…no crowds like today…thankful for the timing. Self isolating for me means I cant see my grandkids for awhile.
And Bill Blair is a pathetic liar in lockstep with Freeland and Trudeau.

  5. As with many things, it is poor people who get screwed first and worst.
Millionaire athletes will be okay. Public service workers just fine. Apparently teachers should still get paid whether they work or not.
We know the politicians will take care of … themselves.
Does anyone really think a putz like Blackie is even capable of sympathy? Bill Fuckhole Blair has your back? Space Cadet Garneau? Nancy Pelosi or Bernie Mao Sanders?
They’ll never freeze or starve or care.

    1. Don’t worry.
Your Liberal Glozi government has a plan for youse.

The women’s lives are ones of resilience. Järsumäe Virve remembers working on collective farms during the 50-year Soviet occupation that ended in the early ’90s. “We had to work all the time. We had no free evenings, no free Sundays, no holidays,” she told Gjelstad.

  6. H1N1. More cases, more deaths. Obama went golfing; didn’t act for at least 6 months and then took minimal action. MSM proclaimed praise be unto Obama.

Wuhan flu: Trudeau sat on his ass and then only struck a committee for Wuhan flu. Later throws money at it. Does not stop travel from infected places. MSM proclaimed praise be unto Trudeau.

Trump shut down travel from China right away. Said not to panic. Took other measures. MSM proclaims Trump an idiot.

Do you also see a pattern here?

    1. I cast me’ memory back to the last wildfires in the Amazon Basin – remember those? Remember how the world was coming to an end, and global warming was gonna’ kill us all in days, maybe hours, because of them? Well, it turned-out once cooler heads prevailed, that the fires the year before had been worse, but we didn’t hear so much as a single peep about them the year before. So why the enormous ‘sky-is-falling, heads-are-exploding’ reaction this year? I had it explained to me in one word:

      Bolsonaro.

      – Oh. Yeah, NOW I understand. Bolsonaro is in charge of Brazil now, and the world Press hate him at least as much as OrangeManBad.

    2. Yeah. The Canadian media has routinely bashed all things Trump, hello Tom Walters you fat POS, while constantly praising Dear Leader!
Today, Evan Solomon tounge bathed Justin, while Justin proclaimed his “no travel ban” policy has been a glowing success, while the US ban hasnt’. He specifically mentioned China……but neglected to mention all those infected imports from Iran. Evan was asleep at the switch of course, looking for the next softball toss at Dear Justy.

      1. Saw an ‘expert’ on the local news who said the WHO is praising Canadas management of the crisis.

So they admire OUR basic dictatorship??

  7. Promote this disruption as a little practise for the kind of change we will be forced to make by government climate change policy.

Good idea. Child-like Canadians should be embracing this disruption, not worrying.

  8. Indeed.

This thing has completely thrown the libranos off their game.

This is a black swan. The economy worries me far more than getting the flu.

The mishandling of this could very well be the end if the fool bongo and his cabal of incompetents

    1. Nah, Teronna will come through for SFB, never fail. Nice hair and all. You forgot the bought and paid for MSM.

    2. The LIEberals will just increase the tiny deficit to 100 Billion or so, and it will still be tiny. Funds will be directed to Ontario and Quebec, because LIBERAL!

  9. A passing thought,as the chaos grows, who will trust their bank?
When do the runs on the banks start?
Or has On-Line banking preempted this kind of panic?

    1. Last time I was in my branch, the place was virtually empty…economy in Calgary, see. DEAD. That was a few of months ago, before COVID-19. Used to be line ups daily and a full bank of tellers. Now one teller, no line ups. Last time I called, I waited, waited, waited…hung up. Went to the branch I deal with.

    2. Don’t worry—the banks will have all the funny money needed to pay off depositors.

It’s you and I who are in trouble if we skip a mortgage or loan payment for lack of any income to pay it with.

  10. JR & PO, I got the same TD item in my inbox today too. We all need to remember the 4G’s, that we will need in a time of crisis. GOLD, GRUB, GROUND, and GUNS! I’m prepared, but my only concern is having Canuck currency in cash may be a poor idea. I do have some US bucks stashed, but only $500. I’m thinking I need less Canuck cash and more actual Gold and Silver. Anyone on SDA have more input on this?

    1. FYI, in the complete collapse of society, gold has no value; lead would have more. Provided you could make your own gun powder.

I do not get the cult like fanaticism with which cult zealots push the importance of gold and silver. You cannot eat gold, or silver. Silver is hard enough to form weapons out of at least. You cannot plant crops with either. You cannot purify water with either. You cannot shelter under gold or silver… You cannot drink gold or silver.

Gold and silver only have value at certain moderately high level of social order; as a medium of exchange. If your society manages to maintain that level, has rule of law and such, then gold/silver can store value. Past that point, a grain bin is far more valuable. Or a simple club.

People do not realize how close to the line the world is dancing.

      1. Kevin.
Gold and Silver are for the optimists, when civilization breaks, paper money becomes worth as much as our government.
So optimists require a unit of exchange, for we expect to survive the collapse and once we finish eating the clueless and useless we will need to trade with fellow survivors.
As we reestablish a functional society (in our image?).
And what unit of exchange shall we use?
        Corrosive rounds of 7.62×39?
        30-30 shells?
Or gold and silver, because we know they can work.?
Civilization is not hard,we have put it back together repeatedly over the centuries.
But it requires that shared illusion of mutual values and trust in our institutions.
        So no liberals allowed.

    2. The bullion deal is just a store for cash you aren’t needing for a long time. And I mean a long time. The transaction costs buying and selling eats any profit you make, short term. I have a few ounces and some silver bars and coin, just for the hell of it. I can pull more cash from the bank machine on a daily basis. Gold price isn’t a constant. It’s rigged mostly. From a high last week or so of $1674 to $1545 in a week. Get a US dollar account for cash parking. Add to it on a regular basis. At these low interest rates you lose anyway to inflation, but it’s better than nothing. CDN cash (mostly credit card) use for daily stuff. You don’t need cash today unless for certain things that call for it, for me cab fare.

      1. PO, Kevin, and John Robertson, Thanks for you insights and comments, they are noted and appreciated. I do have a bunch of printer’s lead (100 lb) I have powder, and reloading equipment. Food, seeds, water and water treatment, and one or two, or a few, firearms. I do expect some semblance of society will again flourish (hopefully in our image) I think I’ll change the canuck paper for a mix of alcohol, and cigs for trading, US $ and shiny metal. I quit worrying about interest rates a good while back (that’s why I have a cash stash) To finish, I’ll get more grain, dry food, and clubs!
        Again my thanks.

  11. Good.

    People voted for open borders.
People voted for “manufacture everything in China” (what, you thought checking labels meant nothing?).
People voted for politicians who were obviously lying.
People voted for vaginas/brown skin/socks instead of actual policy or ability.
People voted for government to take care of them, instead of personal responsibility.

They got what they wanted. GOOD. AND. HARD. Let them enjoy it.

“The ultimate result of shielding men from the effects of folly, is to fill the world with fools.” ~ Herbert Spencer

“Hero-worship is strongest where there is least regard for human freedom.” ~ Herbert Spencer

“What, then, do they want a government for? Not to regulate commerce; not to educate the people; not to teach religion, not to administer charity; not to make roads and railways; but simply to defend the natural rights of man — to protect person and property — to prevent the aggressions of the powerful upon the weak — in a word, to administer justice. This is the natural, the original, office of a government. It was not intended to do less: it ought not to be allowed to do more.” ~ Herbert Spencer

We are viewing, in real time, exactly how a world filled with fools behave. Just stay out of their way; don’t get run over.

  12. Just listened to Roy Green show. A lady vacationing in Cuba, came down with a cough and a high temp (102.8F). So she gets on a plane and flies back to Ontario.

Next day she calls medical help line, emergency dept, and her doctor.

All told her do not come in, stay at home and self quarantine.

She has now recovered but is still weak, which is understandable.

Roy Green is outraged that no one would see he and administer a Wuhan virus test.

    Wrong answer Roy.

The test will show she either has the Wuhan virus or not. In her case the treatment is the same; stay at home and self quarantine.
So in her case testing yields no actionable information.

But going in for a test exposes the health care professionals to whatever disease she had. Thus the doctors and nurses may get sick and be unable to care for the people who need advanced care.

Unfortunately, we are likely to see more and more cases like this lady. The hospitals may be overwhelmed if we all demand immediate testing and care. In most cases we will have to recover at home.

    1. She should have been returned to Havana and told to enjoy the benefits of socialist health care for another six weeks, bribing Cuban doctors with what remained of her hard currency to bother giving her the time of day, never mind treatment. Better her than Canadian doctors.

In other words, coronavirus is now rampant in Cuba. Of course, Havana has refused to confirm any cases at all.

  13. The Federal Reserve have just returned interest rates to zero, on a Sunday no less. Expect the Bank of Canada to do likewise soon. Wall Street and Bay Street will be kept “liquid” with all the funny money they need, no matter what.

Don’t even think of skipping a mortgage or business loan payment, no matter how long your business remains shut down.
