It’s Probably Nothing

‘This is the most frightening disease I’ve ever encountered’ – virus expert Dr Richard Hatchett.

For those who were following Harry Chen, PhD before the account was yanked and the Wayback machine cleansed of his leaked Wuhan videos, it appears he’s back as a “parody” account.

Update: Italy vs Hong Kong.

  1. Dr.Hatchett has an impressive resume, if he’s scared, maybe we should be too. Someone send this video to the PM/Premier’s conference next week being held to address the coronavirus and other pressing issues in Canada.

    1. other pressing issues in Canada

Pressing issues such as to when Prinz Dummkopf should get his U. N. Security Council seat, how much to pay the next bunch of phony-baloney protesters, and which hydrocarbon project in Alberta should be killed in the next round?

      1. Pressing issues like spending $10 less per month on cell bills? Oh, the humanity! The LIEberals sure have their priorities for people kind in order….

    2. Never, never, never get the vaccine. It is the surest way to *get* the disease. Never get a needle full of “help” from the same people who think you’re a useless eater.

  2. Seattle area post secondary schools are shutting down now. I’m sure public schools will be closed sometime next week. We’re probably still another week or more away from total lockdown of Seattle. It looks like Vancouver is heading down the same exact path with a care home infection announced today.

    1. Except that kids appear to be virtually immune to this.

Schools are closing because? Media panic?

      1. They could still potentially be carriers. The last thing you want is them going home and infecting their parents/grandparents/older relatives.
…and if they’re not exhibiting any symptoms, that just makes it that much harder to defend against.

    2. Sorry all over-reaction. Close schools; stay inside; stop breathing and you will all be safe.

Even when the Black Death hit Europe in the middle ages, 50% of the people survived. Have you noticed young people do not seem to get it and only old, infirm people die.

We still do not have numbers. I await numbers. How many people get it; how many people die?

I refuse to panic until I know the numbers. But I’m an engineer.

      1. A mere 50%?.. Well I guess everything will be fine then.So in your family, your wife, one of your 2 kids.. Meh!.. No biggy.

        1. That was in the Middle Ages. We’ve learned a thing or two about sanitation and illness since then.

      2. Ditto Robert, DITTO. Engineers need the numbers, they don’t lie (but statistics can, averages can be VERY misleading.

Here’s a linky from the newest thread, the story itself is satirical, but look at the Twitter graph. This tells the story, by the numbers, that of course our near and dear media just cant seem to want to publicize

        https://www.barstoolsports.com/blog/2023616/science-may-have-discovered-regular-drinkers-of-hard-liquor-are-better-protected-from-coronavirus

For the elderly, this is truly a horrible and fatal disease. For the population under 50? Fucking hell, relax everybody!

        1. Do you know any people over 50 that you care about Dan, or is Logan’s Run your favorite vision of the future?

          1. I’m 51. Since the 1970s I’ve survived Swine Flu, AIDS, H1N1, SARS, MERS, H5N1, and Y2K.

If this really is a disease that will wipe out millions, the CDC and WHO have blown all their credibility on all those other “pandemics”. And so far, coronavirus does not appear to have the lethality of influenza.

          2. “So far” outside of Iran and china we a getting one roughly death for three recoveries. The only reason we should not be panicking “so far” is that about 92% of cases have neither died nor recovered. But if the proportion of deaths to recoveries persists then we’re in serious trouble. Of course you’re too lazy to think and look at numbers. Good luck.

  3. Oh goody, another expert says “PANIC”. All heed, and submit big checks to him. In his spare time he can fix the climate too if the check has enough zeros. Indulgences anyone? Like the climate craze, anyone with basic math skills can tell you, you are more likely to die roofing a house, running a farm, or holding a flag for construction than ever having a chance of dying of this recent flavor of panic. Is SDA auditioning to replace CNN?

    1. I find this very interesting. Most “experts” and articles I see, all say there is no need to panic. I see pundits telling me to not ostracize Chinese people and / or Chinese businesses. And these are people / sources which are normally telling me to panic. I.E., global warming will kill us all in 12 years.
Which only makes me question why am I not suppose to be scared of this. What agenda is being driven?

      1. They assured us there was no cause for alarm until sufficient numbers of patient zeroes had had the chance to export the virus worldwide.

That done, they pivoted to blaming Donald Trump for not doing enough to contain the virus.

      2. Look no further than how Govts world wide reacted to Spanish Flu in 1918. It was dont worry be happy then too…

If my number is up…so be it. There seems to be little one can do other than wash yer hands and maybe consider wearing nitrile gloves when going out…now where can I find a 1200 pack of toilet paper..??

      3. No you are supposed to be scared, very scared, of everything; only the government can save you.

        1. and the fearmongering media, don’t forget…they are experts on EVERYTHING! And when they are wrong (which is often)?

          CRICKETS…………………

    2. “Like the climate craze, anyone with basic math skills can tell you, you are more likely to die roofing a house, running a farm, or holding a flag for construction than ever having a chance of dying of this recent flavor of panic.”

Oye? Then do the math and show me the results. Official death rate from Corona is 3.4% And that rate underestimates (possibly by a lot) the true death rate. So feel free to prove to me it is less deadly than farming, working at construction etc. Cough up those numbers. The floor is yours. Or should we assume that you do not have “basic match skills” and simply are parroting MSM?

      1. Love to engage, but your comment implies your one of those who is separating his Corona Beer from the other brands in your fridge.

p.s. WHO apologized after hyping the last few panics, perhaps you should go for a walk, call a friend or dig a bunker.

        1. So in other words you can’t do “basic math”? Poly want a cracker?

I don’t like Corona beer. Try Negra Modelo if you want to sample a nice Mexican beer.

      2. Start with basic facts then. Vast majority of deaths are those over 60 with compromised health problems. Same as the flu.
Also documented, kids are virtually immune, odd huh?
Otherwise, adults will get sick, then recover.
Sorry, no panic, just the facts that the media fails to mention, or our esteemed gubermints for that matter.

          1. Those Hong Kong protests sure dried up in a hurry, didn’t they? Boy, that sure was convenient for the Communist Party of China.

        1. So in other words don’t worry you are not going to die, you may help your parents off this planet a little sooner but you’re probably ok, and who does not like inheritance?
And if you have a respiratory issues independent of the virus?
And if you’re scheduled for a medical procedure but it gets delayed indefinitely because hospitals are full?
And if you’re in an accident and need emergency help but it can’t get to your in time because they are transporting another coughing senior?

          1. Well, I guess people can crawl into a corner, in the quivering fetal position, and pray to Trudeau to save them!

Expecting the government to save everyone? HA! Good luck with that, Trudeau has already written off western Canada for other reasons, what makes you think he gives a crap about this?

          2. “Well, I guess people can crawl into a corner, in the quivering fetal position, and pray to Trudeau to save them!”

            Reductio ad absurdum.

Also, what in a world makes you think I expect anyone to save me? Especially Aladdin? If anything Canadian health care system will be bending over backwards to offer preferential treatment to protected minorities (as they are doing already) i.e. to anyone but whitey.

      3. “Official death rate from Corona is 3.4%”

There’s no way this isn’t an overestimate. There are likely many people who are asymptomatic or are otherwise undiagnosed.

          1. Not the first time, you both were infatuated with Maxipad…

In any case when you agree whit UnMe then it is a good reason to think again.

If anything the official death rate underestimates the true death rate. Overwhelming majority of cases in civilized world where the accuracy of reporting can be independently verified is neither dead nor recovered. When you look at recovery rate and death rate measured as proportion of detected cases they do not offer an encouraging picture. When you look at a death rate as a proportion of concluded cases then things look even worse. We should be having many more recoveries for each death to believe that 3.4% is accurate. It is hugely influenced by Chicom data that cannot be considered reliable.

          2. To add to above. Most of the clusters in Europe are still composed of cases in relatively early stages. It also appears that South Korea is exceptionally careful with declaring recoveries. We will know more in the following weeks. Right now things do not look good, they don’t look cataclysmic by any stretch of imagination but certainly worse than 3.4%.

        1. I disagree.
There are bound to be numerous deaths from Corona that are officially listed as a different cause.

          1. Why would that be the case? Why would that come remotely close to cancelling out the non-inclusion of the undiagnosed?

South Korea has started reporting real reliable numbers: 0.6%

          2. “South Korea has started reporting real reliable numbers: 0.6%”

Only 2.5% of cases in south Korea have concluded either in recovery of death. You’re talking 44 deaths dividing by 7041 cases and declare your magic 0.6%. In other words; you’re assuming that all 6862 ongoing cases in Korea will recover to keep the number at 0.6%. You’re only getting three recoveries for each death in SK and you’re ready to declare victory. Just STFU and leave the conversation to (human) adults.

          3. “Why would that be the case?”

Because deaths of unimportant people in turd world shithole are not investigated. Because totalitarian countries like China and Iran need to hide the true magnitude of disaster in order to save face.

          4. Absence of evidence is not evidence of absence. I’m drunk and I have a better grasp on reality than you ever could.

          5. You asked why would the numbers be underestimated. You were informed why. Obviously if we had evidence we would know what the true numbers are and would not be saying that they are underestimated. Do you understand what an estimate is? Do you understand what is a representative sample? Of course you don’t.

      4. No that official death rate overestimates the number. We do not have a number for the people with the virus; only those who are reporting “severe” symptoms. I do not report the influenza, even though I have severe symptoms. I just stay in bed with a bottle of scotch.

        1. South Korea has started generating actual reliable data as reported by Ron Bailey. Death rate is probably 0.6% which is not nothing but it’s no 3.4%. The real problem is that there’s no vaccine and won’t be for some time. Maybe someone can generate a neutralizing mAb or a cocktail of them.

        2. “No that official death rate overestimates the number. ”

That would only be the case when the disease is known and patterns well established. Right now overwhelming majority of cases in civilized world are neither dead nor recovered. Yet WHO insists of measuring death rate as a proportion of detected cases. In other words it assumes that all not infected but not dead at the moment will recover. You can get away with when the disease is well known and when the majority of cases are concluded one way or another. Then for each incremental addition to the number of cases you can reliably predict the probability of death for that case.

          1. ” Right now overwhelming majority of cases in civilized world are neither dead nor recovered. ”

Where do you get this crap?

          2. “It’s so cute when non-scientists pretend to be scientists.”

            You can stop pretending anytime.

As for needing a scientist. Bitch please, you don’t need a scientist here. You don’t even need a statistician, all you need is someone who is not too lazy to look at actual numbers.

All stats based on world total minus China and Iran.

Total number of cases = 19385
Total number of deaths = 344
Total number of recoveries = 1212
Total number of conclusions (# of deaths + # of recoveries) = 1556
            Death Rate 1 = # of deaths / # of cases = 1.8%
            Death Rate 2 = # of deaths / (# of deaths + # of recoveries) = 22.1%
            Conclusion Rate = (# deaths + # of recoveries) / # of cases = 6.2%

And until the Conclusion Rate grows substantially death rate estimated either way is unreliable. The only thing that we know is that Death Rate 1 underestimates the true death rate.

The scariest part is that we are only getting one death for three recoveries. But this should improve as samples grow.

          3. That’s nice, except that the numbers WHO feeds are calculated exactly like my Death Rate 1 above.
            # of detected cases in the world = 105860
            # of deaths in the world = 3559
Divide one by another and you get 3.4%

Your South Korea death rate of 0.6% was cooked exactly the same way.
            # of cases in SK = 7134
            # of deaths in SK = 44.
Divide one by the other and you get 0.6%

You’re just too lazy and too stupid to even check where the numbers you blindly regurgitate come from.

  4. Yet,,, unlike the President of the U.S.of A. who stopped travel of incoming non-Americans from China weeks ago, our “leader” is still allowing planes from ANY COUNTRY to bring non-Canadians here.

No worries, the more that die off in Canada,,, the lower our carbon foot print will be, and perhaps we’ll meet our U.N. climate carbon level agreement after all.

    1. So, Prinz Dummkopf, why aren’t you mingling more with the new “arrivals”, eh? Is it because you’re afraid you might catch something that’s unworthy of your position in the social pecking order so that you can’t talk about it the next time you decide to hang out at Davos?

      1. Apparently Herr Dauphin has taken the weekend off, again.

Is he in Tofino again, boffing his girlfriend? Where’s Sophie?

  5. He’s working on a vaccine my ass.

There is already a vaccine. The Politburo have been vaccinated. Joe Biden has been vaccinated. Mike Bloomberg has been vaccinated. Everybody who counts has been vaccinated. Only nobodies who might be tempted to vote for patriots not in Beijing’s pocket will be permitted to die in agony.

The plan is to let the virus spread unchecked, blame Donald Trump for untold millions of deaths, and keep the vaccine under wraps until President Trump is removed from the White House.

That this clown will make a fortune pretending to work on the vaccine is gravy.

    1. Well, if that’s the case, then 3.4% average death rate is a pretty piss poor way of wiping out the population.
Isn’t there a better chance of Chem trails or 5G killing everyone?…../snark

      1. 3.4 percent is a million people in Canada alone. Much as I would like them all to be Overseas Chinese, they won’t be.

          1. One of the lead Iranian kidnappers from 1979 has just bit the dust from COVID19 so we’ve got that going for us.

  6. Trudeau has consigned Canada to a massive outbreak.

It was clear since Jan 20 that the prudent move was travel restrictions and quarantines.

When this broke loose in China, they literally sh*t themselves. Pure panic by leadership. Because it’s just like the seasonal flu.

My conclusion is Trudeau and the Libs very much want an epidemic in Canada.

  7. what a load of horse shit …

anyone who believes this corona virus nonsense is retarded …

  8. It’s rather amusing watching the entire political right go to pieces over this. Can’t decide whether it’s all a cooked-up bunch of nothing or the next great plague. Trump definitely doesn’t seem to think it’s a big deal. That’s why he’s suppressing his experts and wore a MAGA hat to a CDC presser. Trump has also completely lost his marbles.

    1. Exactly! Elizabeth Warren developed a vaccine for this but it was suppressed by Big Pharma. Joe Biden was working on it but he forgot where he put it. Bernie the Bolshie developed one but he wants everybody else to get their vaccination in Russia.

    2. Again, we were assured by the mainstream media that there was no cause for alarm until sufficient numbers of patient zeroes had had the chance to export the virus worldwide.

That done, they pivoted to blaming Donald Trump for not doing enough to contain the virus.

This is an open-and-shut case of bioterrorism, designed to discredit president Trump and expedite his replacement with someone less inclined to defy the Red Emperor.

“Thanks to Trump there aren’t enough virus tests! Look at China! They built a whole hospital in a week!” Come off it. People know better.

Of course, it’s backfiring more than a little. If your business model involves importing stuff from China, you are facing financial ruin. Better late than never. If that’s you, you’re the reason Trump was elected in the first place.

      1. “That done, they pivoted to blaming Donald Trump for not doing enough to contain the virus.”

Which works rather well since he terminated the CDC’s pandemic response team. And is fixated on downplaying the whole issue in the most incoherent dementia-suggestive manner possible ie the normal for Tangerine Tard.

” an open-and-shut case of bioterrorism”

        Big words, no proof.

        1. ” since he(Donald Trump) terminated the CDC’s pandemic response team”

Link? Any proof at all or it’s just more of your too often unsupported slander.

          1. What can I say except that everything Obama did was all Marxist politics and all of his appointments were political appointments.
That said, the entire CDC is THE epidemic/pandemic response team of the U.S. Department of Health & Human Services.

        2. he eliminated a layer, thats all. The CDC still exists, the overarching layer of bureaucracy that Barry created to oversee the CDC is what Trump got rid of. On one hand you postulate that Trump has guaranteed an out of control pandemic, on the other your stating that this is not big deal, only a 0.6% death rate. So what is it, just here to try to fit in?

    3. Yeah, yeah, sure sure. Biden did great on Super Thursday, and jumped his sister, in his run for the US Senate…….I can play all day, you dimwit!

By the way Whoregan and the gay pirate also were calm and reserved in talking about this, would it make you feel better if they freaked out? Yeah, sure, that’s the media’s job, if you havent been paying attention.

Take care of your Derangement Syndrome, its worse than COVID19

      1. Wow you’re desperate. Throwing everything and the kitchen sink to see if it works. It’s not.

  9. A mere 50%?.. Well I guess everything will be fine then.So in your family, your wife, one of your 2 kids.. Meh!.. No biggy. And Unme.. Is that the Babylon Bee for leftloons?

  10. Put me in the “overblown hysteria” camp.

I’ve seen this movie too many times. SARS, West Nile, Ebola.

The data on this one doesn’t seem like that big of a deal. The biggest population at risk are the over 80 crowd and if you make it to 80, you’re going to die at any minute anyway.

I also spent ten years working in broadcast media and I remember the H1N1 pandemic. People were losing their minds. The tv station I worked at was doing stories EVERY day on this thing, to the point where the reporters were tired of it and would roll their eyes. We were sent down to vaccination centres in order to “find out what’s going on” which was usually people lined up because of the tv broadcast panic.
If we couldn’t get clips from people that were sufficiently worried/upset/hysterical then we’d keep hunting for interviews until we could or else the reporter would manipulate the person into torqueing up their response with worried expressions and leading questions. “Are you worried your kids might die?!?!?” type of stuff.

We did press conferences at Alberta Health Services about the H1N1 update and before the presser started we’d all be talking about how this hysteria we were creating was such shit and how none of us wanted to do the stories anymore, but the higher ups at all the stations wanted to keep torqueing it for ratings.

The big scandal was the Calgary Flames getting a batch of vaccines before the public could get them and we all went down to the Saddledome and turned that into a big outrage story. I remember Chris Conroy was like, “What the hell is going on?” like a deer in the headlights when he started getting shamed for vaccinating his family first.

Then the whole thing wound down until we were doing stories at empty vaccination centres and then the hype couldn’t keep up any longer and everyone collectively stopped caring all at once.

    This will be the same.

    1. Almost. There’s no arguing the effect on supply chains in Japan, South Korea and China. That will be the biggest fallout from COVID.

If that involved food, we would be in major trouble shortly, but no, we do not import much food from that corner of the world, and what is, is niche product, largely for the chinese population here.

No, it will be more along the lines of the cheap Chinese crap we buy at various retailers. Its a great opportunity for those markets to be captured by NA manufacturers.

And we should be isolating all the old care homes, to keep people out of there. It already appears that in Seattle and now in Vancouver, visitors have infected the elderly. Hazmat suits for all, should be the order of the day for the carehomes.

Otherwise, count me in as one of those on the “Here goes the fearmongering media again!” wagon. Take care, be smart, wash hands often, avoid large crowds, carry on!

      1. “Its a great opportunity for those markets to be captured by NA manufacturers.”

Lets hope not. I like my affordable smartphones!

Re H1N1: it actually did kill a lot of people…and it didn’t affect supply chains.

    2. I’m a Boomer. We got our shots in the gym at school. Nice and warm, no standing out in the cold, snow or rain. like they did that time around. WTF? They wanted a catastrophe AFAIC.

  11. Sh1t happens from the moment you’re conceived, which is escaping a lot of people on here. The fact that you made it to a safe delivery was a miracle and from that moment on you’ve been in danger of dying. What we all try to do is be as comfortable as possible between birth and the grave.

I’m in the danger group and my biggest worry is what happens if my cleaning lady gets sick and can’t do my shopping. I expect I will starve to death seeing the amount of hysteria already taking over. If you have a relative or neighbour who might need help, keep an eye out for them if the situation arises.

Since none of you are on a cruise ship in the middle of nowhere, calm down. I hope none of you are terrifying the children in your circle like Greta has.

    1. Not all of us are panicking.

The investors in globalization cashing out in a panic, because the Great Uncoupling spells the end of their business model—they’re the ones soiling their diapers in fright.

      What I am is outraged.

Releasing a bioweapon that is guaranteed to kill millions worldwide in an attempt to induce Americans to agree to put a Chinese asset in the White House is as obscene as it will be useless. It demonstrates how truly monstrous Chinese fascism and Western globalism really are.

    2. “Ahhh. What the hell. Ya gotta die of something.” Sean Connery, in “The Untouchables”
