We Don’t Need No Flaming Sparky Cars

The only reason why some people can use electric cars, is because everyone else doesn’t. If all car and truck drivers were forced to use electric vehicles, the problem of recharging them would become completely unmanageable.

Tesla sales typically follow a pattern that exudes “stuffing” at the end of any quarter, and there was clearly some pull-ahead in sales into December in Holland because of the tax law change.

But, no statistical or seasonal anomalies could have possibly prepared me for this morning’s BOVAG figure for Tesla sales in January in the Netherlands.

Tesla sold 165 cars in the Netherlands in January.

That’s right, and that’s a 99% sequential decrease in sales. That figure was composed of 153 Model 3s, 5 Model S and 8 Model X. Seriously. For an entire month. To be fair that is a 150% increase over January 2019’s sales figure of 63 units, but, again, Tesla’s December 2020 sales in the Netherlands are, by my estimation, going to be massively lower than December 2019’s.

  1. What has now become a fairly long time ago, I stated that if Ontario were to go all electric vehicles that the charging would collapse the grid. That statement still stands and will for decades. neither Canada nor the US has the ability to survive using electric vehicles. There are far too many stupid people within my reach who are dumb enough to even fantasize that this would be possible. If only there was one person who had an actual brain cell that might function to stop the insanity, but, there is not and I cannot stop it.

    1. I wish I knew where I saw the video of the evs parked for about a quarter mile waiting to charge their “cars”.. This i believe was in LA, but somewhere in Cali. I can’t imagine that happening in a snow drift in Canada.. people starting to panic as their charge evaporated ,trying to stay warm, windows clear. This could be multiplied by countless thousands. Without oil, do we manufacture these golfcarts, and charging stations by rubbing two sticks together. These ev people have been brainwashed and Musk is a master at the art of the Gullible. Truly headscratching stuff. And we in Canaduh are badly infected by this.

      1. today’s skill testing Q:
how does one ‘boost’ the starter on an electric?
        ha ha ha !!!!

aint technology wunnerful !!!! cant coast down a decline now, put it in 1st or mebbe 2nd gear, engage the clutch!!!
CHUNK!!! VROOOOOM!!!!! presto!!! carry on our voyage of discovery !!!!
oh lOOk daddy, what are all those cars lined up for? I dont see any gas pumps daddy.
why are you laughing daddy??? ha ha ha !!!!

      2. It was in San Luis Obispo on the 101, just north of the famous Madonna Inn. The latter is why I remember.
Yes, imagine if that were multiplied ten thousand fold, if everyone were to really have an electric car. Or even just ten fold.

  2. Tesla stock saw a low of $177/shr and a high of $969 within the past 52 weeks. I would be a seller but not a shorter. The people who buy this stock are crazier than the vegans.

      1. And lots of people made money on Bre-X….of course more LOST money. And why oh why would you buy a BMW? Probably one of the most UNreliable cars on the planet!

        1. Funny, I have had BMW cars and motorcycles for the past 30 years and had no problems. I had a 2000 Ford F-250 diesel that spent months in the shop until they finally settled under the lemon law. I have been stranded on the side of the road by a new Plymouth along a deserted stretch of I-80 in Nevada at 2:00 in the morning.

How many BMW’s have you had?

          1. Three…..all were a pain in the ass. More often than not the check engine light was on. Got sick of them. Now have an Infiniti. In my mind, they are far superior.

    1. Very likely that it is mostly vegans buying the stock. There is a correlation between veganism and mental retardation.

  3. If millions of battery-powered cars (“EVs”) were to hit the road, the demand on the electrical grid would be so high that the cost of electricity would, at the very least, sky-rocket, making electricity absolutely unaffordable for less wealthy people.

    Can you say “population control”?

  4. “the problem of recharging them would become completely unmanageable.”

aaaaaand with this statement, our Kate drops a 250 megaton fusion bomb on the whole scam.
collateral damage will soon include the all important stock price. (barring record setting subsidies, tax breaks bla bla bla lieberal)

steer clear o greens (just dont let the fcukin car do the steering ha ha ha !!!!)

    1. Also think what would happen when you had to recharged large trucks or semi’s. Now your talking huge demands on our elect systems.
Time for more coal power plants. LOL

  5. I don t have the exact numbers, I don t have a good memory
but on a Nova PBS documentary they were saying we use about 40 % of land on planet earth for farming , growing food and cattle

later in the documentary, as if totally oblivious to what they just said themselves, they start showing us fields completely covered with solar panels as far as the eye can see and talk of that as the ideal solution

and they tell us enthusiastically we should use solar panels a lot more

yeah and do what? cover another 40 % of planet earth with solar panels? cover land that we will not be able to use for growing food or raising cattle?

how is that a good thing to make 40 % of land unusable because it is covered with solar panels?

those who know the numbers could calculate how large a solar panel farm would have to be to provide a city like New York with all its electricity

such a field of solar panels would be visible from space so large it would be,

how would that be a good thing???

and if one day we all drive electric cars you can double or triple the number of solar panels we will need…there will not be land left anywhere, it will all be covered in solar panels

  6. At my mother’s high end condo in Big City the strata council voted to not allow any kind of charging in the owners parking spots. No cars, no bicycles, no scooters.

This would likely be the case in all existing condo style buildings since they do not have the necessary wiring to provide the electricity and appropriately bill the users.

Since likely users of electric vehicles would be the vast hordes of urban condo dwellers, disallowing charging at home pretty well guarantees that a huge potential market segment will never be able to adopt electric vehicles.

    Food for thought, eh?

  7. There are good arguments for and against E-vehicles and it should be left up to the free market to determine their future. Unfortunately, virtually all (reasonably electable) political parties are drunk on power and CAGW Koolaid (or the need to virtue signal accordingly) and have decided for their serfs, oops, I mean citizens, that by a certain date, ICE vehicles are legislated off the roads. BOJO even upped his date by 5 years to demonstrate his drunkenness, oops, I mean climate “crisis” bona fides. If E vehicles were so great why must they become the only vehicles allowed at gun point?

As for proponents of unreliable power, they should be required to bid for sales on the basis of grid power, IOW, they should have to supply their own spinning back-up and sell electricity that can be used by consumers when needed. Their so-called “low cost”, low capacity factor power may not be as low cost as their pimps have been parroting.

    1. Good point John. If e-vehicles weren’t subsidized they would probably be more accepted by those who don’t drive them, yet pay for part of them through our taxes.

  8. .
Exactly right … I have said that for years …. it would require a monstrous infrastructure to provide charging capacity to power electric cars … in a world where there are already power shortages ….. anyone remember the California brown-outs a few years ago ?

Furthermore the majority of electricity is created by burning fossil fuels , coal and natural gas. The clean-feeling Tesla driver does not want to be reminded that his power comes from a smokestack somewhere.

Rare exceptions are provinces like Manitoba and Quebec who have surplus power from water powered generators but the source is in the far north and getting it south is prohibitively expensive and long distance power losses are substantial

I once had discussions with a thermodynamics engineer who stated that gasoline is one of our best sources for mobile energy …. a gallon of gas will move a 3000 pound car 30 miles …. and the gas only weighs 6 pounds …. and the car ends up 6 pounds lighter at the end of the trip. And in 60 seconds another gallon can be put in the tank for the return trip.

By comparison an electric car requires 500 pounds of batteries to travel that same 30 miles …. and it is moving at a crawl the last bit … and still carrying the 500 pound (now dead) battery. Then several hours to charge it up for the return trip

Modern lap top type batteries have reduced the weight to below 400 pounds but beyond that there is no “magic” to improve it . Tesla claims 300 miles on a charge but to do that you cant use lights , heat , or air conditioning , or be in a cold climate.

Also … gasoline has been very safe , it is rare to have transport problems and even the worst car wrecks seldom catch fire because of the onboard gasoline …. believe it or not , most car fires , in an accident or otherwise , are caused by ….. you guessed it …. the 12 volt battery under the hood …. wires short out and up she goes in flames

I am not anti-electric per say …. if I only had short commutes I would love an electric car and charge it overnight on my low cost Manitoba hydro. But I would never do it for the “save the planet propaganda” ….. truth is the world could cut fuel consumption in half by driving half as much . But I still drive 30 miles to have coffee with my thermodynamic expert-friends

  9. “The only reason why some people can use electric cars, is because everyone else doesn’t. If all car and truck drivers were forced to use electric vehicles, the problem of recharging them would become completely unmanageable.”

Well yes, but I with growth and improvement in an even somewhat free market this could change with time. We’ll see. Electric cars are WAY better than they were some 10 years ago. Corcoran drove some in 2018 and they were a nice quiet ride.

    1. Electric cars are WAY better than they were some 10 years ago.

Battery technology isn’t, and that’s the problem. Electric cars will not become viable for the mass market unless and until the energy density of a voltaic battery exceeds that of refined hydrocarbons. Period. And if that happens, you’re talking about a singularity event; the effects of tiny high density electrical storage will transform society in ways we can’t predict.

  10. Electric cars are a bit of a gimmick. They have some use among urbanites but anybody who would drive in the prairies in one in the winter has a death wish (although when they erupt into flames, they will keep you warm….for a while). It kind of reminds me of the greenies preaching their dogma in regard to things like solar panels and “selling power into the grid”. But they haven’t thought that as the number of solar panels grow (with huge subsidies, of course), there will be more solar power to be sold into a grid that doesn’t want it.

  11. Let them drive electric.
What a great side benefit for independent welders, using your 1 ton diesel truck and Miller welder to jump charge effete clueless nitwits,as they sit powerless blocking highways.
    Cash only!
And hell put a plow on the front for the ones who are too cheap to pay.Safety first can’t leave the highways obstructed.
May as well throw in a “rolling coal Chip” for dousing the truly ignorant and righteous.

Soon enough this failing technology, with over 200 years of failure to compete, will have a socially beneficial application found for it.
Mobile Electric Chair feels good to me.
Just as I can see those useless whirling crucifixes finding proper use as wind driven substitutes for the Guillotine, gives a whole new meaning to waiting for the axe to fall.

  12. Check this out!! The new Audi E-Tron. The 2020 cost is from $75,000 to 90,000 cdn$.

Range for the 2019 was 200 miles! They claim the 2020 is ”slightly more.” Where I live, it is totally useless. Unless of course I stop on a farm and the owner would let me plug it in his welder outlet!!
    Warranty sucks!!

  13. The battery is the problem with EVs.
The biggest thing that nobody talks about is the wasted energy charging and drawing the electricy from the battery. You are changing forms of energy from electricity to a kinetic chemical energy, then that chemical energy back into electricity. Potential energy is lost during the conversion.
So to explain, say you could charge an EV by pouring gas in the cord…. You try to pour a gallon of gas in & spill 10% on the ground,….. then there is a leak in the fuel line that spills another 10% trying to deliver the fuel to the motors. So you techically, you got .8 gallons into the thing.
And then, don’t forget the hugely expensive batteries get unstable if they are drawn down too far so you have to refill when at a 1/4 tank. AND they can develop a memory so you have to top it off every time you fill up. So, no being late for work and stopping to splash 2 gallons in.
I wish someone would take 2 vehicles of the same body, one gas, one EV. Start with them both empty. Dump a gallon of gas in the one and a gallon in a portable generator to charge the other. See which one travels furthest.

  14. just as a kinda kinky experiment, challenge a greenie to PUSH a tesla. even a wee bit so they get a real personal feel for the energy req’d to actually make it move. better yet, challenge them to get in a group big enough to get the thing moving.
no cheating, level ground, no dips or bumps to catch the wheels.
    hubba hubba !!!
the shocking level of ignorance mongst the greens.
    parasites.
THEY will be the FIRST to go in the end times.
