    1. I tracked her trip on an app that showed winds. Quite possible, no mystery. (Which is not to say motors were not used at least sometimes.)

        1. Was any electricity used on board the yacht during the trip? Where did it come from?

          Motors aren’t just for propulsion, they provide electricity even when idling.

          1. Generally they use solar panels and wind chargers.
            We spent two weeks at sea once and as long as the wind was blowing the wind generator kept the batteries charged for the auto-helm and the Lowrance nav system.

            I followed their progress, they had a lot of wind.

          2. OK, that’s plausible. The generators and how they came to be on the yacht in the first place dictate a high “carbon footprint”, but might be usable for that low-intensity use.

    On another somewhat related note, I have managed to get an answer to a question for the IPCC experts who quarterback the global climate change project. I wanted to find out from them what part of the recent warming they thought was human caused, and what part could be natural variability, for example the stronger solar activity of the mid to late 20th century, El Ninos, just dumb luck even.

    I was informed that the consensus is that 150% of the warming is human caused, because without the AGW signal, it would have turned colder at half the rate it has turned warmer. So that means the natural contribution according to them is -50%, ergo, the human portion is +150%.

    This is important not because it is true or if I happened to believe it (which I don’t), but because it shows that there must be a real sense of panic about this (probably incorrectly identified) AGW signal, what if the natural climate went to a warm phase?

    Not to excuse any of the apparent delusion or madness, but this is actually going on in the background and may help to explain why the lunacy is quite as intense as it appears to be. My own opinion is that most of the recent warming is a natural variation similar to the one that must have caused the MWP, and that it may soon back off a bit at least, before resuming if the Sun gets active again (maybe after 2030). Of course my own opinion is worthless to them, as the only way they can achieve this mythical 99% scientific consensus is if they define almost all skeptics as non-scientists. They have to leave a few in, just like the communists used to accept a few spoiled ballots, because 100% sounds rigged while (to very stupid people) 99.5% may sound perfectly legitimate (look how popular comrade Brezhnev is, almost nobody voted for Ivan Togotosiberia).

    (Ivan was the guy who got the 0.5% of the vote, and his voters got their wish too).

    Just a personal note here, I wish people would not use the word “retard,” as it is often used as a pejorative against people who have no control over their natal intelligence. Greta is not a retard, she’s a weirdo.

  25. I believe that global warming is caused in large by the solar storms. If any of you are familiar with the Old farmer’s Almanac, originally published by Robert. B. Thomas in 1792, and still available today, you’ll know that as early as 1794, Thomas observed solar activity to predict weather patterns. He knew back then that solar storms caused sudden changes in temperature. A bit like sitting in the living room and someone throws a log on the fire. It does tend to get warmer in the room. Of course that would be too simple to explain, and you can’t tax the sun, so instead we devise complex carbon dioxide equations.

    Don’t they know that heating water for showers uses fossil fuels and there is no Planet B?
    Especially ask them that if they have teenage sons and daughters.

    And ask them if they have turned the heat in their homes down to 10C.

    Why doesn’t the government and education systems show some leadership by turning the heat down to 10C in all government and school and university buildings?

    These are things that could be done easily and cheaply and immediately and would save tax dollars too.
    Don’t they care that the planet is dying and that they are stealing the childhood of children like Greta?

    You’ll never convince a Doomer of anything by arguing facts and figures. They have been awash in a sea of climate BS for decades.
    Guilt trip them into freezing their asses off and maybe they will start to ask questions.
