We Don’t Need No Flaming Sparky Cars

Unsafe at any speed – including “parked”.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has launched an investigation into the possibility that battery defects in Tesla vehicles may have caused the cars to burst into flames.

The investigation will involve certain battery management system software updates in Model S and Model X vehicles made between 2012 and 2019 in response to an “alarming number of car fires that have occurred worldwide,” according to a letter the agency sent to Al Prescott, Tesla’s deputy general counsel, on Oct. 24.

The alleged defects in question are “high-voltage battery fires that are not related to collision or impact damage to the battery pack,” according to the letter.

As in this case.

  1. The REAL question … is WHY … it took an outside “petitioner” (read Lawyer) to SUE the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration into an investigation. Why would the Federal Agency tasked with Automobile safety NOT already be investigating the apparent spontaneous combustion of Tesla automobiles?

It’s almost as if the NHTSA bought into Elon’s argument that ICE vehicles have “more fires”? Apples and oranges, you carnival barking subsidy farmer!

    1. the stupid cars are too expensive to park outside…..and who’s stupid enough to park one in the garage…in the house

honestly, I can’t believe all the people that are that stupid….not to mention buying one in the first place

  2. There is a lot of high density energy in those chemicals and they aren’t exactly 100% stable. Given the push behind EVs, their occasional self-detonation will just be seen as an “acceptable” cost much like wind farms being the only “acceptable” anthropogenic systemic killer of raptors and bats. Greens, remember are reds with green drapery. Green is merely the colour of the means and Red is the colour of the ends. EVs will not be affordable to the masses and while the Greens are destroying capitalism, they are getting rid of some of their useful idiots ahead of time.

    1. And destroying personal LIBERTY and FREEDOM. For that is what an auto-mobile provides. FREEDOM of movement … at an affordable price (loads of perfectly good cheap USED cars). But when you end up being FORCED to turn in your “clunker” for a shiny new $$$$$ EV … half the drivers will be unable to afford FREEDOM of movement anymore.

But remember! It’s all for your own good. OBEY your Nanny State! Shim knows what’s best for you … and Shim’s chosen your enslavement and monitoring.

      1. Kenji: When you start to see the Federal and Provincial gov’t using them for their convoy travel to work affairs and purchasing them for personal family use FIRST but until then NOT INTERESTED. I can’t afford one anyway!!

  3. golly, who would have thought that someone sucking on the government teat might produce a shit product?

  4. About 6 weeks ago someone posted a picture on the Board of a Tesla Battery… The unit had cells all just glued together like would be done for an Engineering testing prototype….No Engineering of thermal disposition normally requiring a type of Group separation……It would only take one defective Cell to create a flame thrower…

    JMHO

  5. My Niece had an iPhone 6 and it spontaneously burst into flames yesterday. Thankfully it was not in her pocket at the time, but on the couch which has a burned cushion.

High power Batteries are not safe. It is a rather flimsy technology. Only good for low power stuff like flash lights and portable radios. Lithium and other high power units can kill you. Why isn’t more of this being reported. It’s happening and no one is reporting.

Divert a few billion of the carbon tax scam money into developing a new and better technology. It appears that there is alternate clean power …. we have witnessed it for years courtesy of our visitors in their UFOs. Something to do perhaps with harnessing the power of gravity. Let’s look see. What’s to lose.

  6. There is a fundamental problem with battery-powered cars.

To release the energy of petrol or diesel needs oxygen and heat (considerable heat in the case of diesel). No ignition source? Foam keeps out oxygen? No fire, no release of energy.

A battery, if there is a path for the electricity, the energy comes out until that path is removed. The energy turns to heat, which warps the battery, causing new paths – short circuits – for the energy. Blocking off oxygen, energy still comes out. No need for heat to trigger the release.

Large solar panels are even worse. While they are in the light they will never run out of energy. In the UK the Green Party managed to set fire to the city hall in Brighton with solar panels.

  7. Well damn, not only are we being nudged into useless transport, but they double as Urban Renewal devices as well.
This will really boost the economy and create all kinds of new jobs…
Just out of curiousity, does anyone know the clean up requirements for a confined space that has seen a lithion ion&plastic fire ?
