  1. Tolerance is no longer a good thing because it implies that there might be something wrong or amiss with the thing you are tolerating. Can’t have that. Must celebrate all “diversity”!

    1. Mere tolerance will not be tolerated. Must enthusiastically celebrate, promote and embrace. Attendance at gay pride parades will be compulsory.

  2. It is totally strange how things have changed. 50 years ago “liberals” were the libertarians and free speechers. Today “conservatives” are libertarians and free speechers while liberals/marxists want to restrict speech, fining and jailing people for their opinions. Conservatives never did that but fascists did. My father spent almost 6 years fighting Nazis only to have them reappear with names like Trudeau whose father was a traitor and coward when real Nazis had to be put down.

    1. I don’t remember the Liberals being that tolerant 50 years ago. The political “New Left” were for free speech as long as it was “their” speech but, there were examples of socially liberal hippy types that were easy going and tolerant. The left has always been authoritarian by definition and at times indistinguishable from fascists (Nazis) as many appear to be now. The Left in the Forties reframed their alliances after the National Socialists turned on the Soviets and ever since, the Nazis were popularized as “right wing”.

      People still get to vote every once in a while but as Mao said (and he likely took it from Stalin), “all political power comes from the barrel of a gun”. The more aspects of human action you want to be controlled and limited by the state, the more apparent this becomes. I can guarantee that in tomorrow’s faux debate, the subject of “limiting the state” will not be discussed but rather who can advance the state the furthest and at the fastest rate (and always for the “public good”). The PPC and CPC will be framed as retrogrades opposing that “inevitable, unquestioning” progressive march “forward”.

    2. The people who bankrolled the rise of Hitler to power never answered in any meaningful way for their crimes. Your father put himself in harm’s way for six years just so the people who matter didn’t have to pay for their own mistakes.

      The real Nazis are still in power, and are still plotting the destruction of western civilization and its replacement with something more to their corrupt tastes.

        That’s not a thing. For one thing, no one ‘bankrolled’ Hitler’s rise to power. The Nazis were a small, hardscrabble group that struggled with fundraising for a long time; esp. after the failed Bavarian putsch. It’s described in some detail in ‘Rise and Fall of the Third Reich.’ I suggest reading it.

        Second, even if there were such people, donating money to a political party is not criminal. Especially before that party committed any crimes. Or do you belong to the Bernie Sanders camp who wants people imprisoned for belonging to the wrong class (like when he demanded that Wall Streeters go to prison because 2008; even though none of them committed any actual crimes)?

        1. You need to re-read that book, because wealthy industrialists, several members of Germany’s elite set and even some royalty DID bankroll Hitler and his party. How could you get such a well-known, basic fact of history so wrong? Furthermore, these people knew EXACTLY what Hitler and his party stood for and they still gave him their money and backing, so they have no defense for that. Have you actually read anything about the history of the rise of the Nazi Party?

            ie SOMEBODY bankrolled them in those early days, it sure wasnt ‘happy days are here again’ given the war reparations and inflation clobbering avg german’s purchasing power.

    3. “…never did that but fascists did. …” That’s because fascism is of the left. Mussolini was a socialist who developed his own nationalist variant of socialism, fascism. Fascism was the model for the German nationalist socialism, NSDAP – National Socialist German Workers Party, nickname Nazi. They all must become totalitarian in practise because without total control they can’t get all the people, diverse as people are, to think the same, believe the same, speak the same, follow the orders of the single central authority that has all the answers to everything, and knows how society should work, how people should live.

      It’s why the Left has an affinity for Islam, which also has all the answers, if only everybody would believe in it and obey those who preach it.

  5. It’s not about tolerance at all: it’s about the show of tolerance. It’s about big and showy displays so that all and sundry can see just how tolerant you are, which, it should be said, you wouldn’t need to show if you weren’t a closet bigot of some description. Or if the thing of which you’re being tolerant weren’t in some way obviously odious, harmful, or distasteful.
