One Joint, Two Joints, Three Joints More!

We are about to get to the big day when pot is legal and the Justice Minister is saying she can’t say how much is too much for pot impaired driving.

  1. Yep.
This doesn’t do anything about the issue of kids getting a criminal record for possession of a joint, now its bootlegging if they get caught with the non-government sanctioned brand.
This isn’t legalizing its a hostile takeover by government.
Hey potheads this is what socialism looks like.

    1. I like your last line “Hey potheads this is what socialism looks like”.

The most surprised are the potheads that blazed the trail to legalization. I guess they didn’t realize that this was going to be a profit making scheme for establishment Liberal politicians and other members of the apparatchik.

Nothing for you but overpriced skank pothead!

      1. Check out who is on the boards of Directors of these pot corporations. Just about every police, Liberal & a goodly few of Conservatives from BC & Ontario political Parties.

They’ve essentially cratered all those anti smoking laws they instituted & you will now have in your face, day in day out potheads driving stoned on the road, behind every truck wheel, bus, train, airplane, you name it, hell even your surgeon too, thumbing their noses at anything regarding safety. Don’t think so? Dream on.

I hope Trump just slams the border shut. It’s bad enough he’s got a bunch of Americans who look at pot as some sort of “hey man, all you need is to be stoned” release, he doesn’t need a bunch of stoned Canadjians weaving down America’s highways & biways on their way to Florida or Arizona in the winter, whacked out of their minds.

Canadians haven’t shown they can handle booze yet, what do you think they’ll do with pot? Watch your insurance rates, pretty soon you won’t be able to drive to the grocery store except on a metered usage, per trip rate.

    2. joey, git a grip yah fool. I can go down the street rite now, and cop weed in at least 6 different places. The shit is every were now, so why the bullshit attitude from you uninformed fools. Not much will change, EXCEPT for reporting and BUTThurt whining from twits like you

      1. Why are you so stupid, Mr. 666? I’m just wondering if it was genetic, or if you were dropped on your head as a child.

Joseph said: “This isn’t legalizing its a hostile takeover by government.”

He’s right. As of October 17, weed will be -more- regulated and have stiffer penalties than it does right now. One thing that’s going to happen immediately, if a cop catches you smoking weed in public, he now has a large incentive to ticket you. That means cops at highschools, handing out tickets like candy at Halloween. Sounds like fun, right?

Brian said in the article “Essentially, what Wilson-Raybould is saying, is that it will depend on the subjective discretion of the police officer involved.” What that means is you will be judged impaired depending on what that cop’s ticket book looks like. If you hit a checkpoint and they need a few arrests, you will be arrested no matter what you’ve been doing that day. Because THC lingers in the bloodstream for -weeks-.

Or for medical patients who use it for pain control, and never take a dose high enough to get high, too bad. They get busted for Impaired Driving if the cop feels like it, or needs a ticket for his quota, or doesn’t like the look on their face.

I can only imagine the farce that traffic court will become.

Why is it being done this way? Because the purpose was to generate a new revenue stream for governments. Benefiting Canadians and increasing their personal freedom was never considered. It wasn’t an issue.

        1. panty boy, you git those wheels picked up yet. Try some f*cking comprehension for once. Whether the government takes over or not, the same street suppliers will still exist, kapeech you effin idiot. To get good smoke at a good price will keep street peddlers is business. This same effect drove “home brew”, practiced by many today. You appear to have very little street smarts, as you mewled about increase in neighborhood crime if brothels were legalized, and the opposite is true, now take your unDork stupidity and FO

          1. First
I don’t care, and never did, about who was or wasn’t in possession.
            Second
My beef is with increased government specifically to increase its tax haul.
This government campaigned on keeping pot out of the hands of the kids. This was either a lie, or they likely had no idea what they where/are doing. In spite if team Sockmonkey’s past “successes” I’m going to entertain the idea that this time the intent was to take control of the recreational drug use market as a way to balance the books.
Now, the fact that there is already a supply out there, I don’t dispute this. You seem to believe I do through. My point is that the government is of the opinion that there approach is going to make all that unregulated supply go away.
If they follow through on their approach, that gives the state the authority to shut down anyone not licensed, otherwise known as agreeing to give the government a cut of the action.
In such a scenario as this, the government gets more intrusive, and the revenue generated is far less market generated (free market), and moreso from penalties (socialism).

      2. NMe…Im thinking that those “legal” places figuring on making a profit – may not. Unless of course they sell dirt cheap.

This whole legalization thing was simply to get the Pre-Millenials and Millenials out to vote and give the Dipshit in charge his 4.5 yrs mandate and, to possibly create a “stoned” generation, one that would be so “appreciative” as to keep voting Justin in…except there are 10’s of thousands of folk who smoke daily – drive daily – and work at jobs DAILY…so that part of their equation is to me just stupidly thought out LIBERAL BS.

It was and remains dead simple to acquire an OZ, Gummies, Cookies etc pretty much anywhere in this country….
        ..online or otherwise.

This is now about CONTROL & REGULATION…and maybe a bit of extra coin for the Libs to PISS Away….

    3. Technically, it would be “socialism” if the government actually produced the product (ownership of the means of production) so no, this is actually what “fascism” looks like (private ownership with control of virtually everything by the state). Progressives are typically happy with either variant of statism.

Brian is correct that defense lawyers will enjoy much more business from increased police discretion in attempting to get impaired drivers off the road. The technology and variation in user response to dosages makes this more difficult than measuring impairment for alcohol (which is also not foolproof). I wouldn’t be surprised to see zero tolerance of recent intake eventually evolve, particularly if the incidence of accidents from drivers with pot in their system adds significantly to that of drunk drivers.

      1. When considers the right and left of ideology as not linear, but three dimensional, essentially spheres within spheres, then communism (non-democratic socialism) and fascism share the same space, as demonstrating vividly by the Dem goons presently staining their once great party.

That why DeMarxism has fused so easily with fascism, both collectivist, both totalitarian, both obsessed with the use of political power, both uninterested in the individual except as an atomized piggy bank and vote receptacle, to be drunk and discarded to await the next bottle, or sheep shearing or perhaps public execution. Not far off imho.

I hope the voters put a stop to it.

    4. “This isn’t legalizing it’s a hostile takeover by government.”

      Good line!

Yes, I think at some point even the addlepated pothead activist “community” is going to realize that they’ve been snookered by government. Then they’ll just go back to their previous supply chain of course. It’s funny to think there’ll still be potheads going up in front of a judge for illegal possession!

I’ve realized lately that my fascination for this whole train wreck of an issue stems from my complete impartiality: I am not and never have been a consumer of pot and so the entire matter leaves me a (highly) amused observer on the sidelines.

You couldn’t make this stuff up!

  2. Exactly right Joseph. Governments exist for the sake of governments, not for the serfs who elect them. As we slide into socialism, governments take over the economy and outlaw all competition!!

    1. The first time Sockmonkey pledged this scheme the words “regulate and tax” should have been understood as

“Dats a nice bizniz youse got dare, shame if sumptin shud happin to it.”

  3. Ironic because potheads could pretty much drive high without any repercussions except maybe everybody beeping at them because they were driving too f’n slow. Now they’ll have the MADD fanatics after them as well as the cops (eventually) getting detection devices good enough to prove impairment, despite what the lawyers say.
And who knows this answer? Can passengers in a car legally blaze it up?

    1. @Buddy: “Can passengers in a car legally blaze it up? ”
I’ll be the ‘expert’ here. The answer is no, driver might get high from second hand smoke.

  4. Agree there used to be gambling in back rooms all over the place also bootleggers making and selling booze this was a terrible thing to happen to society so the government stepped in now it’s called 649 and you need a license from the government to sell booze and Poof all is well

  5. I notice already stoned-faced woolly-headed thinking. She could have waited until the legal day before toking up. This will be the new normal in Canada with stoned-faced zombies wandering and wondering around. Already they have infected the federal government.

  6. Here in the ‘States, they are studying the issue. Finally. (Full disclosure — I favor legalization but think that it’s really stupid to smoke it.) University of Ohio for one. The US Gov’t just thought that if they didn’t keep stats, study it, etc that it would go away.

Look, lots of things are stupid ideas. Playing hockey isn’t all that smart, right? American Football? Auto racing? Hell, I live in Bourbon country, that isn’t real smart, right? But we have to address the risks, and kinda find a way to live w/ it.

  7. Well, a brighter, braver party than Mr. 2 percent and the PCs would use this slogan next election to point out the Liberals’ attitude on everything – from immigration to defence to Canada’s economy to this:

Justin and his Liberals – They just don’t care!

  8. It’s like the end of prohibition, but it may not run as smoothly, a different animal, different stripes, a different time.

  9. All fine particulate airborne combusted matter is harmful when it passes through the blood barrier in lungs and into the bloodstream. At that point it coagulates the blood and leads to plaque formation, heart attack, kidney failure and stroke. Doesn’t matter whether its pot, tobacco or diesel exhaust.

Most people are idiots and most people are failures in life so I do not expect this to end well.

    1. queue, yup, every thing that nature dictates will chance on the stroke of a legal pen. What makes you and most in look like idiots, is the fact you don’t understand how prevalent the shit is now, it’s every were already!

      1. You call me an idiot for making a proven scientific fact? And you call me an idiot for stating that those that ignore this and endanger their health and those around them are idiots? Not too bright are we.

        1. context not your strong point, NO I did not say that, I pointed out that what you suggest is all ready in effect before legalizing, NOTHING WILL CHANGE on that file, and that is my point!

          1. Well nme, you could lower the tone and deliver the same message, while providing the necessary context.
I agree, nothing will change after legalization, so far as still being able to acquire your bud from unnamed “unapproved” sources. The government hasn’t been able to EVER stop it, what makes anyone think they can stop it in the future. Anyone think Trudeau wants to stop any dope anywhere? Not gonna happen.

      2. No….we are well aware that it is quite prevalent today but then so is fentanyl. We can tell by how stupid people are becoming. Like you, for example. I always get a kick out of stoners defending their holy weed.

    2. Huh? And yet despite the bogeyman of “fine particulate matter” INCREASES in our industrialized world … cancer rates are static … and lifespans are longer than ever (adjusted for Chicago murders and various unhealthy “urban” lifestyles). Hint: the lifespans of Swedish-Americans is just as long as that for native Swedes. Both my Swedish grandmother and great grandmother lived independent, healthy lives till age 93 when they expired. One due to a fall and broken hip, the other due to tissue paper heart muscle finally giving out. Huh!? Neither expired from “fine particulate matter” … imagine that. Oh and great grandma lived in the middle of Oakland … between multiple freeways … when the air was filthier with “fine particulate matter” than it is today.

  10. It is everywhere and now it’s going to be legal everywhere. Don’t get me wrong, as a libertarian leaning person I want citizens to make their own decisions free of the government I just don’t want the school bus driver or airline pilots smoking a spliff on their way to work.
What kind of a country would legalize an intoxicant without first establishing limits on its legal use?
Canada is not a serious country.

    1. And let me add that Canada will not NET a single dime of tax money from dope. Nope. Here in the States the FIRST thing Government did after legalizing dope was to DROP the tax rate … based on the premise that raising taxes on dope would just increase the illegal drug cartel’s share of the market by undercutting the government price. The notion that dope taxes are gonna rescue the nation’s deficit spending is ludicrous. But nevertheless, it was one of the primary arguments used to SELL the legalization of dope.

  11. Ross Rebagliati. Ross was stripped, at the insistence of the Americans, of the first ever snowboarding gold metal at the Nagano Olympics because he tested positive for marijuana. The Americans insisted that marijuana was a performance enhancing drug.

    1. Rebagliati later was given the gold back after it was learned that marijuana isn’t on the list of substances banned by the IOC.

      1. Dope is NOT medicine. That was just a ruse used to NUDGE it into total legality. Similar to Obamakkare … which was just a preemptive program intended to usher-in totally Socialized (government CONTROLLED) medicine for ALL.

  12. I don’t partake and will not, if for no other reason than to ensure Trudeau does not get another cent of my hard earned money. His dope revenue stream has never been about “keeping the kids safe”. Like all Liberal schemes it’s all about enriching their connected lefty buddies and pandering to the low information voters. One thing is for certain? Trudeau’s latest debacle will not end well.

    1. GRM: EXACTLY!! I can see the courts throwing out the cases because they are so over loaded with work!! Lawyers make more money than ever off people that can’t afford it…that will eventually be paid by the Taxpayer as they live on Social Assistance or Welfare. SOCIALISM!!! VOTE OUT THE LIE-BRAL GOV’T IN 2019…VOTE OUT THE LIE-BRAL GOV’T IN 2019!!!

  13. “It depends on a case-by-case basis,” she said.

This is a dream scenario for defence lawyers.

  14. Indian Reserves will be doing a bang up business just like they are with tobacco…..apparently the price is right.

    1. Liz J: EXACTLY!! The Indian Reserve gangs get to sell cheap tobacco, cheap marijuana, other multiple drugs and KEEP THEIR GUNS It will be the TAXPAYER Canadians that will pay for all this!!! VOTE OUT THE LIE-BRALS IN 2019…VOTE OUT THE LIE-BRALS IN 2019

    2. Hey, I think native entrepreneurship – tobacco, pot and especially casinos – is to be applauded! That’s one great way to get back at the “settlers”: soak those suckers for every cent they’ve got at the gambling table.

  15. I have not laughed at a “news” article as much as what Brian Wrote there.
He’s definitely got a second career awaiting in COMEDY..!!!

That it is Comedic, is without a Doubt…that it shines a Bright light on the DIM Bulbs in this CABiNET is also without a Doubt.

They’ve had 4 Years to come up with a Solution….but seeminly preferred to spend all their time on Gender, Climate, Feminism, Pissing away Multi 10’s of Millions of TAXPAYER DOLLARS to every Islamic Country they could find, opening our borders up to Sub Sharan Human garbage, Paid off Terrorists, screwed up EVERY TRADE deal they’ve been involved with, attempted to destroy Canada’s Small Business and Fully Determined to Destroy our Energy Sector….THE ONLY thing of note was Legalization of POT – the File that won them POWER (IMO), and They have FUCKED that up as well.

CANADA: If you arent awake by now, you never will be. This beyond CORRUPT and INEPT Govt must be Annihilated next OCTOBER.

  16. And here in America we are emptying our prisons of people ovvvvvvv culllller incarcerated for … “minor drug crimes” … at the same time we are legalizing marijuana and passing out free needles (littering the streets of SF). What could possibly go wrong?

  17. The Soviet Union hung on as long as it did by keeping vodka cheap and plentiful and Russians too drunk to revolt. Gorbachev’s worst mistake was his attempt to crack down on alcoholism. Once Russians sobered up enough to realize how miserable life under communism really was, the system collapsed overnight.

That’s the Liberal strategy—encourage Canadians to drug themselves to death or insanity while their paymasters in Beijing steal everything of value. It was working very well in the States under Obama.

    1. And don’t forget what has happened here in America where so many of the “urban” population are stoned all day, along with basement-dwelling white punks. Because so much of our population is sitting around stoned … the Chamber of Commerce DEMANDS open borders to import motivated workers from the third world. Ours is a population of White Punks on Dope, White Punks on Dope. Mom and Dad live in Silcon Valley. They’ll hang themselves when they get enough rope. White Punks on Dope. White Punks on Dope.

  18. Let’s make the pot industry the same as the dairy industry – a supply management system. We can even have cute commercials promoting its use. After all, there are no side effects. The dairy industry is constantly reminding us what a great idea supply management is. Let’s apply it to the pot industry. /s /s

    1. Steve, you’re behind in the news. This pot industry -started- with supply management. Nobody can grow without a license. Guess who got ALL the grow licenses? Guys who had millions to invest, and I mean lots of millions, and who were hooked up heavy with the Federal Liberals. Nobody else was allowed in.

Now, Doug Ford is driving them all CRAZY with his easy-to-get grow licenses and sales licenses. By opening the system, Ford has completely f-ed their whole game.

  19. Why should we think that this brain fart from the “dear leader” should be anything different then everything else he’s come up with. Ill conceived, poorly executed and a disaster in the waiting should be his middle names. I hope that tens of thousands get banned from the US for trying to take pot in and hundreds of thousands more get fined for smoking in public places (…hey man you can’t fine me I’m not smoking a cigarette….). I just know that I won’t be in either group nor will I ever go into a pot shop.

  20. steakman: EXACTLY RIGHT!!!! Thanks for the down to earth language, we all know!! TRU-GROPER HAS F*CKED UP!! VOTE OUT THE LIE-BRALS OUT IN 2019!!! VOTE OUT THE LIE-BRALS OUT IN 2019!!!

  21. Thanks to Trudeau and his brain trust Canada is going to pot. Nothing new here except the cops will have to get educated on how to detect the brain fog inducing substance among tokers who drive vehicles, it’s now in a class with alcohol, it’s legal.
Only problem there isn’t any reliable test to prove impairment, they can’t prove it, this gives the legal profession a chance to make big bucks, that should work out just fine.

    1. In BC pot laws are now never enforced anyway, unless the person did something else pretty bad, and the evidence is weak for the more important charge. So nothing will change here. Because there will be plain packaging and limited offerings in legal stores, people will continue to buy from dealers.

  22. Nothing that smells like garbage burning in a tire and that makes people extra stupid had to be legalised.

But, like the carbon tax, the government needs cash it can waste.

    Happy Thanksgiving.

  23. “We are about to get to the big day when pot is legal and the Justice Minister is saying she can’t say how much is too much for pot impaired driving.”

I wouldn’t worry too much about it. They basically made up a limit for drinking. And then tightened it up until people finally started squealing. They’ll do the same with pot. Set a limit that has no basis in reality, ignore the way the stuff affects people differently based on their mass and sex (and even race), and then tighten that limit under pressure from activists until the public screams enough to get the pols to say stop.

  24. I guess what t boils down to is this. Smoke your g-d brains out if you wish. But I don’t want you driving towards me or working beside me if you’re stoned.

And it’s quite apparent that Juthtin and his sheep don’t give a sh*t about either scenario.

And for the height of silliness, here in Ontario, and most other provinces I imagine, you’ll be able to walk down a street puffing on a joint, but you better not have an open bottle of beer in your hands.

  25. I would advocate that the fully loaded pizza test would best determine canabis use impairment.

  26. So, how will they test a driver for intoxication- or will they just let them go?

  27. There are many interesting discussions being ‘hashed’ around on this topic. DanBC mentioned the dangers of emphysema last summer. He made some good points.

Essentially there’s the sound of crickets, crickets, crickets from dentists, periodontists, endodontists etc. Crickets, crickets, crickets.

Wonder if this Profession will become nationalized? Think about the overtime for them once cannabis becomes legal.

Think of the billions of dollars in GST the Feds could make, as dental services are exempt from GST charges to Canadian consumers. Many people forget that this ugly tax taxes Labour, not just products purchased. The dental pros won’t be happy, they will have more bureaucracy heaped on them, should this occur.

My dentist, along with several other dentists have teamed up and own several new dental offices jointly. They have brand new sparkling offices across the city. They are practically the first ones to open their places at the new strip malls in the new subdivions. I could go on and on about how they always seem to have new staff and how one doesn’t always see the same dentist, but that’s another story. Folks the age of ‘Big Dentistry’ is here.

In the mean time, in between time, the dentists are planning their vacations to some sunny island away from this frozen country, because they can.

  28. The lack of defined limits and any reliable detection methods are a feature NOT a flaw of the Liberals plan to “Legalize” dope.
As noted the “trusties and backers” already have the monopoly on the federal licenses to grow.
The lack of practical rules is also by design, rules for thee but none for me.
This way the sheep can be fined, fleeced and raped depending as the government needs.
The projected “income” expectations quoted by government sources are pure empty projection.
The true wealth will be reaped on the stock market, harvesting the irrational exuberance of the small punters.
Such incredibly poorly planned legislation is a hall mark of the federal Liberals, could have something to do with the overwhelming percentage of Canadian lawyers who are party members.
These kind of law-fare is a feature of Kleptocracy, where a government of fools and bandits, pass laws making theft and destruction “lawfull”.

  29. The underground market is well established and largely tax free.

Some of that will shift but the outside the tax zone sector will live on, because it’s way lower cost than government can deliver, of that you can be sure.

The cash cow anticipated won’t materialize, mostly because they already know they can’t meet ongoing demand.

Unless you count on revenuers raiding pot still grow ops, government weed will remain a convenience only, not a serious threat to local pot entrepreneurs.

If that happens get ready for the long outing lineups at the government weed store.

OTOH, given people can grow it themselves, as long as not publicly viewable, the price long term should fall, but then again government is now involved so cancel that.

  30. THC:
    Not water soluble
Cognitive impairment up to 1 week
    Urine persistent for 3 weeks
Driving is a privilege and not a right:
Mandatory supervised urinalysis with suspected impaired driving or accident involvement
Positive result = criminal charges, loss of driving privileges, sentencing, and criminal liability
    Smoke up buttercups!

  31. After all is said and done, I still don’t understand how a substance can be both a performance enhancer (Olympics etc.) and a source of impairment.

  32. so wtf does this have to do with my new tradition of toking a joint or 2 @ bedtime (well, AFTER I deal with the munchies)
in order to give these 67 yr old bones a good night’s snooze? and look, no hangover !!!
furthermore, if gubbamint yanked its head out of its ass 4 decades ago, all these subsequent issues would have been addressed.
but we had to get rid of harper the bully first who got voted out for declaring he wanted to take an enormous step BACK in time.

anyone who steadfastly refOOOOses to ascribe medical uses to pot, take a gander:
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YM5eX1qcPJ8
    and:
    https://www.cbsnews.com/news/fda-approves-epidiolex-first-marijuana-based-drug-for-seizures/

far far too many links on this, feel free to watch your best friend’s dear child thrashing about and slobbering with their eye’s rolled back, and tell them about ‘pot is a gateway drug, best let Betsy thrash some more’.

yer goddamn right people are gonna drive impaired on pot. like theyve done on booze since motor cars showed up 130 yrs ago.
and likewise pills and potions. THAT is the real problem, NOT *just* pot. p.s., any stats on precisely what people are impaired on when they drive? what, too afraid the truth will come out?

also, take a gander @ the prison guard union’s books and ‘follow the money’ why there are still obscenely unjust laws about pot
hint: keeps the prisons full and lots of zhob security for the guards !! (same as the 3 strikes thing from califartia)

    p.s. I promise not to gloat on D-day. heh-heh-heh.
