    1. So what if one of us at the table is my cousin’s child, who requires a straw to be able to drink? Serious disability here. I’ll forgo my straw, but this kid really needs one.

  1. Well that sucks. It is the last straw to break the camel’s back. Insert groan here.

  2. And it’s all theatre which will not improve the environment to any measurable degree, and could even worsen it.

    1. “Never bring a straw to a dumb fight…”

This policy, quite clearly, is idiocy writ large. A fine would at least have the appeal to the bottomless money pit of gov’t as being a revenue source; an arrest would appear to simply add costs.

Upon further reflection, Latitude, you might be on to something…designer straws. I’m sure some left-leaning rube would pay $50 for one that declared their virtuousness.

    2. It’s almost worth it on the next trip to SoCal to go to one of the cities with a straw ban, buy a couple boxes of 100 straws at Walmart for $1, and then go to City Hall just to dump them in front of the offices of these crazy anti-straw counsellors.

  3. Care givers for quadriplegics & parkinson’s sufferers, bed ridden seniors, palliative care patients, seniors with motor skills issues should take a picture of their charges drinking from straws behind bars, blow them up and show up to protest. Rule #4.

“Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron’s cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience. They may be more likely to go to Heaven yet at the same time likelier to make a Hell of earth. This very kindness stings with intolerable insult. To be “cured” against one’s will and cured of states which we may not regard as disease is to be put on a level of those who have not yet reached the age of reason or those who never will; to be classed with infants, imbeciles, and domestic animals.

    1. An exercise all too common from the left these days. My great uncles discovered this in the Gulags.

    2. Wow…friggin’ brilliant observation. “Where is your ‘virtue’ now, you merciless tyrannical eco-pr_cks?”

    3. I do not doubt the sincerity, the conviction, in their troubled minds of a wish to make the world a better place.
Unfortunately in the better world they would create only those things with which THEY agree would be permitted.
And that is a long, long , way from being a better world.

  4. Let’s get this straight. I can go to jail for a plastic straw but nothing will happen if I pop a squat in public while shooting up heroine?

    1. Her too. Don’t think they worry about the obscenity laws much any more down there.

  5. Stupid in Santa Barbara Eco-Stupidity modern enviromentalisms a form of spreading stupidity just like with DDT,CBD’S many other man made products Eco-Stupidty GREEN IDIOTS STUPID GREENPEACE,STUPID NRDC,STUPID EDF,STUPID FRIENDS OF THE EARTH

  6. A solution, by edict of virtue signaling green theocrats, in search of a problem. A kumbaya moment for the souls of the mindless.

  7. While driving to teach a propane safety program I overheard a radio news program describing a guy receiving two years less a day for sexual assault with a weapon.

At the training session I showed the participants that if they had the temerity to re-fill a little green camping cylinder with propane, they were liable to 5 years in jail AND a $500,000 fine.

I’m sure glad we have our priorities right.

  8. … this is a city which still has a ‘blue line’ painted around town illustrating where the sea level was supposed to have risen by now … due to … global warming. Due to all the eco-Hollywood-leftists Driving their Ferrari’s to the local wholistic, macrobiotic, health food store. Hint: the sea level hasn’t budged since the line was painted nearly 20 years ago. Hint: American straws contribute NOTHING to plastic pollution in the oceans. Nothing. Eco virtue signaling is all that matters. Truth, facts, reality be damned.

  9. A few years ago, there was an advertisement for Audi (I believe) which showed a Green Gestapo going around nailing people for various offences. There was an outcry from the ecofascists because it painted them in a “bad light”…..seems it was right on target.

  10. not only that, but remember California is the state that gifted the rest of us with that infamous ‘3 strikes’ law.
which managed to put kids behind bars for TWENTY GODDAMN YEARS even if that 3rd ‘strike’ was, wait for it . . .
    shoplifting.
