    1. Heck, Calgary has taxed water usage for years. Our first home had a water meter, and we had rather a nasty shock when it was finally read and we owed a fair bit as the estimate was too low. When we moved, we asked to have a meter installed, as we figured we would use less than had been “assessed” for our new home. We’ve always been metered. Where we REALLY REALLY disagree is with the “wastewater and drainage” assessment which is ALWAYS more than our consumption. Given we are responsible for the care and maintenance of two large old elms on what is city property bordering ours, and given a fair bit of the water for which we are charged goes to the care and maintenance of these trees, I think we should get a credit on our water bill for helping maintain Calgary’s urban forest.

      1. I’m not sure what you mean by “taxing water” here.

Unless you are on your own well – in which case you (or some previous owner) paid for the well and are responsible for your own water quality – you are consuming water that has been collected, stored and filtered for you by the municipality. Someone has to pay for that and it’s logical that it should be the end-consumer.

Or do you mean some additional “tax” on top of what you now pay for this service? In which case, perhaps the appropriate signal is to turf your municipal council in the very next election.

        1. Back in the day, a municipality’s job was to provide basic utilities (water and sewage), look after roads, provide garbage pickup, and have fire and police services. Anything else was a luxury. Now, increasingly our taxes to to vanity projects, while we have to pay extra for basic services.

          1. Yes. Everyone thinks letting the government take care of it, was a good idea at the time.

Only later, do some come to realize that it never was.

Education; sure would be nice if government took care of that. How is that working out for ya? Residential schools.

Child and welfare services; how did the 60’s scoop work out for ya?

            Canada food guide; obesity epidemic.

            Roads; potholes everywhere.

Garbage; enviro-dulgences and blue boxes everywhere.

Water; They have control over this basic necessity now. You have what you wanted, you deserve it. Good and hard.

      1. 4 bills a year in Ottawa separated from property tax and raised every single year well above the inflation rate. But at least its a quantifiable thing unlike all the BS tax the filthy feds steal from you.

      2. Fellow Old White Guy: I don’t see it as a tax, it is like a utility bill, like paying for the amount of electricity you use. I don’t expect free electricity, nor would I expect free water. User pays. The more you use(washing cars, watering lawns) the more you pay.

        1. True, however, here in Greater Victoria, the CRD makes you pay more, even IF YOU CONSERVE! They raise rates every year, for the reason that users “didn’t use as much water as estimated”. There is no water shortage here, despite the rhetoric.
          Typical government…..

  1. Meanwhile, two and a half years after Rob Ford’s death, his drunken, drug-addicted widow has apparently squandered her inheritance on booze, drugs, and the lawyers pursuing her vendetta against Doug for refusing to give her what she considers her fair share of the Ford family business.

    https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/toronto/doug-ford-renata-ford-financial-situation-lawsuit-1.4755903

Two questions you’ll never hear asked on the CBC:

    1. Why won’t Renata return calls placed to the number under the homemade “For Sale By Owner” sign if she’s that broke?

    2. Why would any lender give a thin dime to a known alcoholic and drug addict with no realistic way of paying back, even at 12.5%?

(Answer: the “loan” is actually a grant from a Librano with deep pockets.)

      1. Yep poor Boers running form one subhuman tyrant to another.

Good PR stunt for the Putinista yunta, reminds me of the all the American workers who immigrated to Soviet Union during the great depression. Did not quite worked out as they planned.

          1. No, not all. SA is a testbed for white genocide. The process has already started elsewhere.

BTW when I said it “did not quite worked out” I meant it ended in a gulag. You realize that of course?

        1. Putin is well liked in Russia. I believe the South African farmers will do very well there.

          1. In truth, you’re probably right.

Relative to the shenanigans in South Africa, those farmers will likely find themselves prospering in Russia; I doubt President Putin much cares about interfering with family farming at all.

          2. Linda, yes Pootin is well liked. Siberian Mongols love to lick the boots of their tyrants. Boers have no choice, hopefully they will be allowed to leave if they choose so.

          3. The SA farmers would do well to read a little history on Russia. A number of North American Finns returned to the Karelian Peninsula in the 30’s to establish a socialist paradise. It didn’t work out quite as planned as Stalin had other plans for them.
The Germans who were enticed by their countryman Catherine to emigrate to Russia were never accepted by the ruskies and many moved again to the US and Canada, my forefathers included.
I’d be reluctant to move to Russia. The Russian is not known for his magnaminty .
They should come to Canada like all their doctors have.

      2. South Africa will shortly turn into a communist sh*thole like Zimbabwe (Rhodesia).

        1. Yep, and then they will starve. And then our immigration minister will look into bring them here. All according to plan. Lather, rinse, repeat.

    1. When I was a grad student in Vancouver, nearly every Sunday sermon I heard was about how evil South Africa was and how it should be “liberated”. It didn’t appear to me that the clergy who preached such rubbish even understood the consequences of what they wanted.

They, and the people in the congregation who went along with them on that matter, must feel mighty proud today. They got what they wanted.

      1. It was one thing for the clergy to deplore apartheid on Christian grounds; I would have expected that and agreed with it.

Preaching “liberation” was another matter entirely: a move into the realm of secular – and leftist revolutionary – political activism well beyond the bounds of Christian theology.

        1. Liberation theology is a Catholic teaching. It is diametrically opposed to Christian teaching.

          1. “Liberation theology is a Catholic teaching.”

No, it is not. It is a doctrine espoused by certain groups of Catholics (particularly throughout Latin America) who ought to know better.

You might just as well say that the “progressive” doctrines of the United Church are a Protestant teaching.

          2. It may have had its origins with certain Catholic clergy, but it’s infested other denominations as well. There’s hardly a Lutheran synod here in Canada that hasn’t adopted it as part of its doctrine.

That was one reason I eventually stopped attending services. I got tired of having all that political hokum rammed down my throat. To paraphrase one of Gregory Peck’s lines from the movie Twelve O’Clock High, the church’s business is sin and it should stick to that theatre of operations.

          3. And the Jesuits are socialists. So what? That doesn’t mean Catholicism is socialism.

          4. Yes JJM, liberation theology is a Catholic teaching. Not all Catholics may approve of it, but it was birthed by and disseminated by Catholicism.

Just as not all Nazis may have approved of the Holocaust, it was Nazis who created it.

The Jesuits are to Catholicism what the SS was to Nazism.

          5. B A, it has infested other denominations because those organizations were long ago infested by Jesuits. Jesuits have infiltrated other denominations and brought their systems with them. That is why most denominations preach from the same socialist book – socialism also being a Jesuit invention. The vestments, rites, and buildings may differ, but the evils they teach smell the same.

          6. B A, it has infested other denominations because the Jesuits were the infestors. The Jesuits long ago took control over other denominations, and created cults like the JWs, Mormons, and 7th Day Adventists. They brought their evil teachings with them, including socialism.

It’s no coincidence that the doctrines of most churches are anti-Christian. Due to their evil teachings, many atheists are turned off from them. What they believe and teach is often indistinguishable from the world.

All of which suits the Jesuits just fine.

  2. “Syrian authorities have long described the Civil Defense search-and-rescue group, which are popularly known as the White Helmets, as a terror organization.

“Canada is set to welcome some members of the White Helmets as part of a resettlement plan by a number of Western nations.”

    https://globalnews.ca/news/4347425/white-helmets-evacuation-syria-criminal-operation/

Remember when Canada wasn’t the preferred destination for terrorists fleeing justice in their home countries?

    1. Actually, would like to know more about the “white hatters”. They do seem to have been risking their lives to save others. And given that the Israelis were involved in pulling them out of Syria, I would hesitate before condemn them as terrorists. At the very least, they have been willing to risk their lives for others and that is unlike too many young men who just took off leaving their families (particularly women and children) in danger.

      1. @Frances: I agree with you. The Israelis are ok with them, well that should carry a lot of weight.

      2. France, many in here are like libtards, one arm, one brush, and paint the whole damn works!!!!

      1. Well the NY Times says the White Helmets are the second coming of Mother Theresa. That cinches it. The NY Times wouldn’t make up stuff to fit a liberal agenda? Would they? Then again maybe they are actually Al Quada. Israeli support doesn’t mean anything other than Israel is gleeful at whatever Arab on Arab conflict they can nurture.

        1. Don;t care if NYT says they are good guys, what matters is that they report that Israel moved in to help them. See the thread above.

BTW have you had a chance to figure out yet how quotas and tariffs work together?

    1. Kenny is in a tight spot. He absolutely cannot afford a “lakes of fire” comment from a candidate as all the MSM media (CBC, Calgary Herald, Edmonton Journal, etc., etc) would nail him to the cross. Without an honest MSM, certain topics cannot be discussed right not.

      1. When fear dictates your actions before your enemy even acts, you have already lost.

FYI, my money is on Notely winning against this.

      2. They don’t even have to look at Kenney; he is already running in fear. His style reminds me more of Hillary’s guaranteed victory, than Trump or Ford’s embarrassing losses.

        1. I hope he loses. “Conservatives” in Alberta need to burn down to return to what they were.

          1. Ridiculous Comment: The Sequel. Kenney is going to win the AB election with ease. Try to keep up.

Real Conservatives will get us to rule by leftist fascists faster than the socialists could dream of.

At least you’re ideologically pure; morally and intellectually bankrupt, but idiotically, I mean ideologically pure.

    2. Groveling is a no win talk.
Kenney should get a lesson from J. Peterson on how to hold your own and stop apologizing.

Sheesh, politicians are just so damn stupid, they think that the plebeians are idiots. Plebeians on the other hand know that the politicians actually are idiots.

  3. I’ve been reading Conrad Black’s book, ‘Donald J. Trump’ (good!), and yesterday, I received my copy of Gregg Jarrett’s new book, ‘The Russia Hoax’. Sean Hannity’s show tonight was one of his best. He’s in his element.

    1. Re Hannity: ” he is in his element”…I record and never miss Hannity. He is passionate about the situation in American politics and the future of his country should there be two justice systems and the Constitution being trashed.

When is anyone ever going to be prosecuted? We need to see a perp walk, trial and sentencing. You would think that these people would have left the country by now if the fix was in for them. If a judge just came on the scene and read Jason Chaffetz’ s new book, just out now, Sara Carter’s book, Newt Gingrich’s, Greg Jarrett’s, ☆”The Russia Hoax”☆ plus others, the books alone would update him on the situation as it is.

Hannity said that if the Dems win the Fall election all this would be for nothing and America would be a banana republic without adherence to the Constitution. The next few months are a very important time for Americans. Pray for Americans.

Ben Franklin’s words: ” We have a Republic, if you can keep it.”

☆Greg’s book ” The Russia Hoax” Is the definitive book on this topic.

      1. kevin, there is a difference between fear and stupidity. In here many are ignorant of facts, and just blather stupidity, ALL THE FVCKING TIME.

    2. Sadly Hannity is just the other side of the Hegelian dialectic. He is a devout Roman Catholic that manages the “right”. He, along with others on the fake-right, act as an anger pressure release valve to keep the right from taking up arms against the traitors on the fake-right in government.

The fake-right in government always lose. The fake-right in media make good Americans feel they have a voice. The decline of freedoms is thereby managed. Their Catholic overlords are rapidly finishing off what was left of Protestant America.

      1. “Their Catholic overlords are rapidly finishing off what was left of Protestant America.”

Ah. I see you are a religious bigot and a bit of a wingnut.

        1. yah jjm, the katholics and their good buddies in central and south American, the kommunists, are doing a bang up job. Just git you fvcking head outa yer a$$

        2. Alternatively I have a critical mind and use facts to shape my views rather than the media. Regardless of the media source.

What makes me a religious bigot? Am I more of one for pointing out the ugliness of Catholicism, than you for doing the same of Islam?

Read Tupper Saussy’s Rulers of Evil and see if you still believe me to be a wingnut.

Btw, if anything I am defending Christianity by not allowing it to be conflated with Catholicism. One is a Luciferian cult that was rebranded with Christian trappings, and the other is Christian.

          1. Me: “I see you are a religious bigot and a bit of a wingnut.”

You: “I am defending Christianity by not allowing it to be conflated with Catholicism. One is a Luciferian cult that was rebranded with Christian trappings, and the other is Christian.”

            Me: “Quod erat demonstrandum.”

          2. Me: “I am defending Christianity by not allowing it to be conflated with Catholicism. One is a Luciferian cult that was rebranded with Christian trappings, and the other is Christian.”

            You: “Quod erat demonstrandum.”

            Me: “Non sequitur.”

    1. Here is another one, there are thousands of them.
This one compares real life experience, happening on the ground and reporting on ABC fake, made up news, made up by the creative people of news manufacturing enterprise.

  4. The corporate media coverage, of the Danforth Avenue shootings is about what one would expect. The Pakistani Muslim murderer was mentally ill. We have a gun problem. We have Danforth Strong. The left-wing CTV News had Wendy Cukier on, raging against guns. My favourite was CBC News, who had on a York University sociologist, who said shooter Hussein was “psychologically in need”. Lot’s of federal Liberals blathering on: Bill Blair, Ralph Goodale, etc.

    1. So the same old excuse, he was mentally ill.
Should all people diagnosed with mental illness be locked up for public safety? Should psychologists who diagnose a patient be responsible for reporting them as a danger to the public?
I’m sure we will be hearing some inane statements from Trudeau and his incompetents. Their hearts have already gone out.

    2. Questions not asked included where did a mentally ill person get a gun from, why did he seem so comfortable using the gun, and how does a mentally ill person find the calmness to change a gun clip while being pursued by police and after having killed or wounded several people. That stuff requires contacts and practice.

      1. The utter incuriousness of the media is annoying. You are absolutely right: not one “journalist” has apparently yet posed this simple question to the city and police: how did this mentally ill man obtain a firearm?

      2. “That stuff requires contacts and practice.”
Changing a magazine ain’t calculus. Maybe he practiced 2 or 3 times. That’s obviously 2 or 3 times more than you’ve done it.

The Parkland, Florida, school shooter had contact with local police and even the FBI 40-50 times but the policy was to ignore his craziness so as not to give a Hispanic kid a criminal record. He had even threatened to shoot up a school.

    3. @David Murrell: Yup, lots of blathering on. When I saw first heard of the shooting I immediately took a guess it was a follower of the Religion of Peace, when I later saw the video and saw that he had a beard, it cemented my view. I hesitated publicly saying so because I did not hear about any reported ‘Allahu akbar ‘. Then today I just heard his surname and that it was mental illness. If I had proclaimed my very first initial suspicions to some of my politically correct acquaintances, they would have really looked down on me as a racist dog. That’s why I don’t regard them as friends to hang out with at Tim’s. If I can guess horse races like I can guess what the killer’s ethnicity is, I would be rich.

    1. I would start with “where does a mentally ill person get a gun?” and end with “who trains a mentally ill person to change gun clips and fire a hand gun?”. Plus, as mayor of Toronto, how many times has Tory called for something to be done and then … done nothing?

      1. Steve. I almost never watch CBC and CTV news these days (too hard on my psyche), but I did watch some of their coverage last night and this morning. And not once did any “reporter” bring up any of the honest questions that you ask.

        1. David, we used to live part time in Toronto, near King and Portland. It was rare to hear of a shooting. But things have progressively gotten worse. Someone fired a gun 12-14 times right in front of our old condo, injuring people – at 2:00 am in the morning after a club had closed. This stuff escalates because no one does anything about it.

The sad part is that people in Toronto are now saying it’s just part of living in a big city. They accept both the violence and the fact that their elected officials are too afraid to do anything meaningful to stop it, other than to pose at news conferences. Good luck Toronto. Glad we got out.

        2. @David Murrell: You must be one of the very few to use their real name here if not the only one. BTW, I attended UNB way back in the late 60’s and early 70’s.

        3. Would just like to mention that any actual journalist would be fired from his media cartel job immediately as he got of the mike if he said something that would oppose the media cartel talking points.
It truly seems as though all these “journalists” sit around in club and talk to one another what should they say, how to spin around the story that will keep them in the job.

Just a note it could be he or she or whatever.

      2. Also:

Why was the only adult killed a young Liberal? (She was the underage mistress of a Liberal MP. The girl who knew too much.)

Why did it fall to an MP to identify her? (He was making sure she was dead.)

I thought Toronto’s finest we’re proud to bring mass murderers in alive. Why didn’t they capture Faisal alive? (He was the man hired to do the botched contract killing, and had to be shut up before he could squeal on his Librano clients.)

  5. Mohammed’s “Mental Problems”.

  6. It’s hard not to think of Trudeau’s diversity when we have so much gun violence, killing and murdering innocent people in our streets.
Instead of banning guns we may as well all pack one and have the training to shoot straight, it could save more lives as well as our own. WE can’t expect any sense from the government, they’re still talking crazy crap.

    1. It’s an easy claim – ban guns and gun violence will drop. Seems logical if you don’t think about it. But how did a mentally ill person obtain a gun in the first place? Did he purchase it directly with a permit? How did he get a permit if he was mentally ill? Where did he train to use it – video shows him running and changing clips at the same time. Was it an illegal hand gun? Should we not first focus on illegal weapons?

Defenders of the gun ban use merry old England as an example of banning guns (1996) and declining gun violence as a result. This may have been true but it ignores what is really happening today – we are not being tough on crime and violent crime is increasing rapidly, especially gang violence.

      https://www.cbc.ca/news/world/london-murder-rate-new-york-knife-crime-rises-1.4607737

“The mayor [of London] is deeply concerned by violent crime in the capital — every life lost to violent crime is a tragedy,” a spokesperson for Mayor Sadiq Khan said in a statement on Tuesday. “Our city remains one of the safest in the world … but Sadiq wants it to be even safer and is working hard to bring an end to this violent scourge.”

Sounds similar to the talking points of Toronto mayor John Tory.

  7. Northern Ontario is burning. While some blame global warming others blame a new wind farm under construction. A vehicle broke down and started a small fire which turned into a 5,600 hectare fire that is now out of control.

    http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/ontario-forest-fire-wind-farm-construction-1.4758864

My questions are…. Why is Ontario’s largest wind farm being constructed on First Nations land? Why is the project owned by an American energy company? How are they going to make any money? Are they being paid subsidized rates for electricity production? How will the First Nations be compensated? Why do I have a feeling I am going to be paying for this? Why have my electricity bills more than double in the past 10 years? Why are Ontario’s electricity rates the highest (or second highest) in North America? Ontario can purchase very cheap hydro (renewable) energy from Quebec. If First Nations are such great stewards of their land why are they allowing massive rock blasts, concrete pads and steel monsters to be erected on their sacred lands?

  8. The only adult killed in the Danforth shootings (aside from the murderer) was a young Liberal, age 18, who for some reason had to be identified by a Liberal MP.

In other words, this was a contract killing of the MP’s former underage mistress designed to shut down another #MeToo situation that might embarrass the Liberals.

Something went wrong—my guess is that Faisal saw someone else pull out an equalizer and panicked. He hadn’t expected anybody to shoot back.

In any case, Saunders and his merry men were quickly tipped off and ordered to shut down the situation—and make sure Faisal didn’t get the chance to squeal like a pig.

Reminder that when a woman accuses a globalist of being a rapist, a pervert or both, she’s telling the truth, and may be risking her life doing so. Spare a prayer for a poor young woman who never got to expose a Librano’s outrages to the world.

    1. @ A Canadian:
It’s my opinion at this point in time to label your theory a load of hogwash.
I will eat crow if this theory becomes anywhere near plausible.

      1. The hogwash part is regarding A Canadian’s theory on the young female adult that was killed.

    2. You are silly. It was a muslim fulfilling his obligation to Allah plain and simple.

    3. Do you have any proof at all of a relationship between the woman who was killed and the MP?? I believe that aspects of this story are being covered up, but I don’t think your version is correct.

  9. John Ivison does what most journalists do well – talks out of both sides of his mouth.

    https://nationalpost.com/opinion/john-ivison-white-pines-decision-says-doug-fords-ontario-is-closed-for-business

Ivison argues that Doug Ford is “not open for business” because he cancelled a wind turbine project in Prince Edward County that was very unpopular with the locals. The project is owned by a German company that has so far “invested” $100 million into the project. Ok, so far so good.

Ivison then proceeds to the knock out punch…

“[the] foreign direct investment climate in Canada has deteriorated steadily since 2013 — a combination of external factors such as U.S. tax cuts and a falling oil price, as well as internal political moves like rising electricity prices, tighter regulation, an increase in the minimum wage, carbon taxes, the failure to push through oil and gas pipelines, higher debt costs, and increased taxes on high income individuals and small businesses.”

Ivison argues that internal factors such as rising electricity prices are driving away foreign investment (which is true). He also criticizes Ford (in the same article) for cancelling a wind turbine project where Ontario will pay a foreign company generously (“you can disagree with the generous rates offered to producers by the provincial Liberal government”) at tax payers expense.

What Ontario (and Canada) needs is for the government to stop subsidizing foreign companies who live off tax payers. That is not being open for business. If the Ontario government would stop giving away our taxes to foreign rent seekers (which Ford seems to be doing) and if the Canadian government would allow construction of the Trans Mountain pipeline instead of buying a used 63 year old pipeline from industry at inflated prices because it can’t decide if it wants to shut down the economy or let it expand – then I wouldn’t have to rant so much.

In the meantime Ivison needs to learn the difference between foreign investment and rent seeking.

    1. High electricity prices is inhibiting business investment, so it is bad to stop a subsidized investment that will increase electricity prices?

    2. “Ivison argues that Doug Ford is ‘not open for business’ because he cancelled a wind turbine project in Prince Edward County that was very unpopular with the locals. The project is owned by a German company that has so far ‘invested’ $100 million into the project.”

If this were a project where – all business risks accepted – the end result might well be millions and millions in revenues to the province and hundreds of good jobs, then hooray!

But it’s not that kind of project: it’s a wind farm. It will not bring lots of jobs, it will not enrich the provincial coffers, it will not make the cost of electricity to the consumer more competitively priced and it will not even provide a significant source of dependable electricity. So goodbye!

    3. Let’s look at the “progressive” (Liberal, NSP and John Ivison) approach to promoting business:
      a) raise business taxes
      b) raise income taxes
      c) impose a carbon tax
      d) add more regulations
      e) raise electricity prices to the highest in North America
Comrades why would anyone invest in Ontario?

    1. Some of this is true, some of it not. All wars, for example, are not bankers’ wars. And there is no more an evil zionistconspiracy than there is a catholic conspiracy. Tony Blair definately has a lot to answer for.

      1. “And there is no more an evil zionistconspiracy than there is a catholic conspiracy”
Actually, we have both — a zionist conspiracy and the Jesuits. It is true that you need to sort out truth from fiction, but much of the background on various groups trying to control civilization is factual. I have been reading Nesta Webster. Her background knowledge on secret societies and human conflict is impressive: https://www.amazon.com/World-Revolution-Plot-Against-Civilization/dp/0851724256/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1532456420&sr=1-1

        1. Webster was an anti-Semitic crackpot and a complete loon, as is anyone who conjures up the “Illuminati” and conflates Jews, Freemasons, Bolsheviks and Jesuits into a conspiracy to dominate the world.

C’mon, you can do better than this, surely?

          1. Jesuits are behind all of the groups you mention. Adam Weishaupt started the illuminati. He was also a Jesuit.

Freemasons answer to an unknown higher voice. That voice is that of the Jesuits.

Communism was created by the Jesuits in Paraguay in the 16th century. They also invented the concentration camp. They were behind the Bolsheviks.

The Jesuits are the common denominator behind secret societies, and they are the military arm of Roman Catholicism.

        2. Jews are the patsies Roman Catholicism hides behind.

The Rothschilds are jewish bankers. Yes, but they are the bankers for the Vatican.

Jews control Hollywood. No, though they are the faces of Hollywood. Catholics maintain the highest positions.

The highest positions in the American political, intelligence, and defense world are all Roman Catholics.

If you find your way through the BS in a story, you’ll find a Rockefeller, a Marx, or a Soros. But you’ll stop there. You won’t take the time to discover the Jesuit behind them.

    2. Why so much immigration …

Er. For much the same reason as all the tired, the poor, the huddled masses yearning to breathe free, the wretched refuse, always emigrate to some Promising Land?

And, yep, the indigenous nations, cultures, and peoples will be impacted. But that has always been the way in Europe – ask the Basques. Or your local Indigenous Peoples.

  10. There once was a guy by the name of Plutarch.
Plutarch thought to write book, he called it Parallel Lives.
The book was about parallels between the earlier Greek civilization and later roman times.
The book is about the leaders and rulers of Greek states and roman statesmen.

Here are parallels between the way earlier Greek and Roman times and today’s times.

How the Welfare State Destroyed the Roman Empire
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TDZVbFgeUfI

This is how empires and republics and basically speaking civilization comes to its natural end.
The saying “there is no free lunch” is basic iron law of economics.
It will always be that way. No exceptions. No buts.
    It’s the law.
Not unlike the ohms law, the law of gravity, the law of attraction of + and -.

The interesting thing about it is that everybody knows that.
The conservatives do their best to work with and within it.
The international/national socialist are banging their heads against a brick wall, insisting without fail that they can do better.

    The masses go with socialist.
The media cartel helps, you see, they are not responsible for anything, they just “report what other socialist said”.

Hence is the problem with civilizations.
The clear thinking of earlier generations of this civilization is way out of fashion, out of mainstream.
The magnificence of renaissance and what it brought to the European thought is being forcefully forgotten, enforced by those that hold the mouthpiece and the politicians on all sides.

The “journalist” spew their fake news bullshit. They were taught in the journalist school that they will change the world.
One can suppose that they are doing just that.
Not for any reason what so ever, just because.
And this is what it looks like.
It looks more and more that we are close to an end of civilization of the western thought.

    1. Exactly. Sadly however, it is a lesson that has to be relearned, over and over. The offer of a ‘free lunch’ is just too appealing.

      1. True, “it is a lesson that has to be relearned, over and over”.
Though as you know from history, any history, after the destruction as after wars that kill people, the people pick up the good book and start anew learning what’s good and what’s not. Not trying to be religious here, it’s just that the wisdom is in the book.
There is no mystery about it. People don’t need to be religious to see what’s good and what’s not.

Things go better as the people begin regeneration of how to live. Have to depend on self and family.

I suppose, could go on with this to no end, though you and many, even those that take the free lunch know the rest of the story.

    1. Those security clearance threats were a very good idea. There is absolutely no reason for retired agency people to continue to have high level security access. Trump aside, this should really be done. It is yet another vulnerability for both politicians and citizen data.

  12. VDH asks “Just How Far Will the Left Go?” Not sure, how far did the Nazis go?

“Progressives are urged to go to stores, gas stations, restaurants and confront Trump Administration officials, in a sort of Obama-like “get in their faces” or “take a gun to a knife fight” advice to make life miserable for anyone who would dare work for Trump.”

A former Clinton aide has organized adolescent noise-maker rallies near the White House, ostensibly to make so much racket that Trump will not be able to sleep in the presidential bedroom. Restaurants have refused to serve Trump appointees.
There is no respite from the war against Trump. The NFL, the NBA, late-night comedy shows, cable news, sitcoms, Hollywood movies, books, and music have all found ways to turn their genres into anti-Trump theater.”

There is no respite; there is no refuge—not the Super Bowl, not the Emmys, not the Grammys, not the Oscars. Almost every aspect of American culture has been weaponized to delegitimize Trump.”

  13. A friend of mine had her car stolen over the weekend. It was locked up in her locked up garage and thieves stole it while her and her family slept soundly surrounded by a state-of-art security system.

Verified by her high resolution video cameras (which formed part of her alarm system – more on that later), a small group of men in their late 20s (white, east European looking) approached her truck in her laneway. They saw an automatic garage door opener attached to the sun visor. They were able to open the truck window without setting off the truck alarm. They took the garage door opener and then opened the garage. The truck did not need to be turned on for the opener to work. Once inside the garage (there was no alarm on the garage door, something that is a common mistake when people install alarm systems) thieves found where the spare keys to their expensive car was (according to police many people store spare keys in the garage for convenience). The thieves took the car and were gone in only a few minutes, tripping no alarms. Police suggest the neighborhood was scouted in previous days by professional thieves. Seven cars were stolen from her neighborhood that night.

While she was talking to the police one officer mentioned that this was typical for Burlington and last week 15 cars were stolen from a single neighborhood – all expensive models such as Land Rovers, Jaguars, Mercedes and BMWs. The officer suggested the thieves would never be caught because the cars were likely on a boat after only a few days or chopped up to pieces and sold for parts – so no evidence.

My friend asked the police officer why there had been no public announcement of the 15 stolen cars the week before. After all, if she had known how bad things were, her and her husband would have taken greater precaution. The answer was that Burlington is known as a safe city and telling people what actually happens at night would only scare them. The officer actually said that if the police had to tell the people of Burlington what happens at night they would have to give them daily updates and nobody wants that, right?

To make matters worse, the truck, which was also stolen, was a company vehicle. So insurance has to be claimed by the company owning the truck, the valuables inside fall to the home insurance, items stolen from inside the garage also fall to the home insurance, and the stolen car falls to their auto insurance policy. Each policy has a deductible, so even though you are insured it will cost you more than you may think.

My friend asked me to inform people:

    1. Do not have your garage door opener visible from outside your car. Store it under the seat or somewhere that cannot be seen by thieves. This will lower your chances of being broken into.

    2. If you have an alarm system, make sure the garage door is connected to it. Many just assume their garage door can’t be opened.

    3. Understand that even if the police show up and you give them high resolution images of the thieves, it is unlikely the thieves will ever be caught or that your belongings will be returned to you. So don’t leave sentimental items in your car.

    4. Keep things of value that you have to store in your garage (like golf clubs) locked up where they can’t be seen. Thieves are unlikely to start hunting around to find things of value. That is why they cased your home earlier.

    5. Make sure you have your home and auto insurance policies up-to-date. Know which policy covers which items and what your deductibles are. There could be separate deductibles for items lost in a stolen vehicle and for the vehicle itself. Also understand the limits of your coverage. There could be a low limit on personal items stolen from a vehicle, for example.

    6. Do not leave items such as purses, computer bags or brief cases in your car. Thieves will steal them and go through them later when they have time. Even if you have no valuables in your purse you would lose all your ID and credit cards.

And do not overnight in north Burlington or Toronto (that one is mine).

    1. Good info — thanks. I should also add that some thieves have a way of capturing your garage opener code. I am not sure how this is done, but we were warned about that. With the code, they could get into your house if you leave the garage/house access door unlocked.

    2. 1) Have a manual lift garage door, don’t use remotes. When you’re in for the night, put a bolt in the guides.
      2) Alarm systems are useless. Like the police showing up after the crime. No one responds fast enough.
      3) Want a real alarm system security get a dog.
      4) Showing your valuables and displaying your wealth makes you a target, any time.
      5) Everyone who has less wants what more you have, whether it be government, neighbors or thieves. Behave accordingly.
      6) No one is immune to crime, but some people attract it more than others. Don’t imitate them.

    3. 1:31pm @ Steve from Rockwood:

Thieves are here in Alberta too. They strike in the dead of night when people are into deep REM sleep.

An acquaintance of mine had her car stolen weeks ago. They broke in to her car outside, and took the garage remote control door opener to open the garage door. Once inside the garage, they opened the door to the unlocked house. Once inside the house, they went to where she left her purse and stole her wallet and keys. They went into another room and stole hundreds of dollars hidden in a container.

She had everything changed out and cancelled, right away but the invasion of privacy will always haunt her. The repercussions will hopefully not haunt her in the form of stolen identity. Time will tell.

People who wear purses ought to hide them at night. Perhaps people ought to leave lights on, lock doors and check before retiring.

Be careful, be safe, not sorry.

    1. Agreed — dumb move. Surely they can show support for Canada without having to agree to a silly “rah. rah” for Trudeau. Trudeau is the reason the US responded with verbal attacks. Trudeau should be held accountable. Sickening really. Everybody rallying around this phony PM, while the PM himself claims Canada has no distinct identity. The motion is playing to anti-Americanism — not a good place for Scheer to be. This is one of the first times I am NOT willing to give Scheer the benefit of the doubt. This is a dumb strategy — if it is a strategy at all.

Does the Quran really contain over a hundred verses that sanction violence?

The Quran contains at least 109 verses that speak of war with nonbelievers, usually on the basis of their status as non-Muslims. Some are quite graphic, with commands to chop off heads and fingers and kill infidels wherever they may be hiding. Muslims who do not join the fight are called ‘hypocrites’ and warned that Allah will send them to Hell if they do not join the slaughter.”
