    1. Coincidently Nakajima Ki-43 Hayabusa was the most popular Imperial Japanese Army fighter aircraft of WWII.

      1. “Nakajima Ki-43 Hayabusa was the most popular Imperial Japanese Army fighter aircraft of WWII.”

Yes. But Hayabusa is also the name of a very fast Japanese motorcycle today.

“hayabusa” is Japanese for “peregrine falcon.”

    2. Here’s an item about this current probe’s predecessor:

      https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hayabusa

The mission had numerous problems but a few grains of the asteroid’s material were acquired and returned. That was some amazing engineering and I, a P. Eng. myself, am in awe of what was done.

    3. Oh Nos! A self driving satellite:

“When Hayabusa2 is more than 100 meters from the asteroid, it will be controlled by an operator on Earth. When it comes within 100 meters, Hayabusa2 will operate autonomously.”

But seriously, thanks for the link. This is really interesting stuff. I hope it is successful.

Note: One of the biggest deals is testing the improvements made in the ion drive thrusters.

    1. Yes , but Sarah breached ethics by using a government account to tweet. Big story. They are grasping at straws . The worst part is so many people believe the lies about Trump. The positive part is it has become so bizarre even people with half a brain should be able to figure it out . However ,I am not positive about that .

    1. That’s exactly why the left will think that she will be an excellent candidate. Irrelevancy equals competence and suitability.

In many ways, she reminds me of Sir Eric Gairy, the first PM of Grenada. I believe he addressed the UN and went on about UFOs.

Then again, (post-national, sharia-compliant, carbon-neutral, gender-balanced, Soros vassal) Canada has nothing to brag about, either. Look who’s in charge.\

      1. “That’s exactly why the left will think that she will be an excellent candidate. ” Exactly.

I’ve already expressed my view in other threads here. Kamala Harris is a likely Democrat candidate for POTUS in 2020……. and way way way more dangerous than Hillary ever was because she’s so far the to left.

  1. It’s OK everyone Trudeau didn’t really grope that reporter, and even if he did it is still OK, because – Trudeau!

FTA: Oliva, for one, expressed dismay that the editorial was making waves 18 years later, and said its resurfacing seems like an unfair “witch hunt.”
“Come on, people,” she said. “This is not how we activate #MeToo.”

No, of course not – we only activate them against the right males. He’s shiny pony and we all secretly want him anyways so that makes it OK.

The post article is insufferably long in trying to justify his innocence, the loops of illogic are amazing. I wonder, did the authors even read what they wrote and if so, how did they ever manage to mop the floor clean of their vomit afterwards. These can’t be real people.

    1. CBC News has not, repeat, has NOT, reported on the Cadmore groping incident. Therefore the incident never happened. Nosiree. The incident never happened at all.

“Catastrophe warning as Algeria ‘abandons 13,000 migrants’ in Sahara

Algeria has denied mistreating migrants amid claims it has abandoned more than 13,000 in the Sahara Desert over the past 14 months, including pregnant women and children.

The country has reportedly expelled the migrants without food or water and forced them to walk, sometimes at gunpoint, under a blistering sun.

The migrants can be seen coming over the horizon by the hundreds under temperatures of up to 48C.

In Niger, where the majority head, the lucky ones limp across a desolate 15km no-man’s-land to the border village of Assamaka, the Associated Press said.

Others are reported to have wandered for days before a UN rescue squad can find them.

Untold numbers die, with nearly all of the more than two dozen survivors interviewed by The Associated Press telling of people in their groups who simply vanished in the Sahara.”

  4. The Altering of the Deal

    http://www.scmp.com/news/asia/southeast-asia/article/2145808/trump-indonesia-project-latest-stop-chinas-belt-and-road

Trump Indonesia project is latest stop on China’s Belt and Road
Project is part of the Lido City development in Jakarta and is the first to link the US president’s business interests to Beijing’s epic infrastructure plan

A subsidiary of Chinese state-owned construction firm Metallurgical Corporation of China (MCC) signed a deal with Indonesia’s MNC Land to build a theme park outside Jakarta as part of the ambitious project, the company said on Thursday.

The project includes Trump-branded hotels, residences and a golf course, as well as other hotel, shopping and residential developments.

The park – expected to be backed with up to US$500 million in Chinese government loans – is part of an “integrated lifestyle resort”, known as MNC Lido City.

Two days after MCC said it would provide the loan to the Indonesian developers, Trump said in a tweet that he would try to help the Chinese telecom company ZTE, which was hit hard by US sanctions, “get back into business, fast”.

  5. A special post for his gruffness NME666 who is still grieving over the disappearance of former brilliant commenter ET, with whom I tangled over the the Israel-“Palestinian” conflict from my very first visit here in 2004, but with whom I otherwise shared a mutual respect. This is pretty well, point by point, what I tried, in vain, to get ET to see.

BTW NME666, Mark Steyn, who is much smarter than both of us , has announced that he is gifting half of his recent $4 million court settlement to Gatestone.

    1. The Gatestone “Institute” is nothing of the sort. It’s another nuthouse. Steyn is also deranged and simply panders to his audience. In addition, not a good writer.

  6. Keep a close eye on the sky and your local radar in Alberta and western SK later today (more like tonight for western SK) as a very strong cold front has developed over eastern BC Monday morning, it just rolled through my location (which is now New Denver BC) and did some damage north of here at 0600h. Looks to be developing into a squall line in the east Kootenay region at 0800h and will collide with that hot, humid air over the prairies later today. I think the greatest tornadic potential will be east of a Brooks-Coronation line late this afternoon.

  7. https://www.globalresearch.ca/the-world-transformed-and-no-one-in-america-noticed/5645114

The World Transformed and No One in America Noticed

The world transformed and nobody in the West noticed. India and Pakistan have joined the Shanghai Cooperation Organization. The 17 year-old body since its founding on June 15, 2001 has quietly established itself as the main alliance and grouping of nations across Eurasia. Now it has expanded from six nations to eight, and the two new members are the giant nuclear-armed regional powers of South Asia, India, with a population of 1.324 billion and Pakistan, with 193.2 million people (both in 2016).

In other words, the combined population of the SCO powers or already well over 1.5 billion has virtually doubled at a single stroke.

The long-term global consequences of this development are enormous. It is likely to prove the single most important factor insuring peace and removing the threat of nuclear war over South Asia and from 20 percent of the human race. It now raises the total population of the world in the eight SCO nations to 40 percent, including one of the two most powerful thermonuclear armed nations (Russia) and three other nuclear powers (China, India and Pakistan).

This development is a diplomatic triumph especially for Moscow. Russia has been seeking for decades to ease its longtime close strategic ally India into the SCO umbrella. This vision was clearly articulated by one of Russia’s greatest strategic minds of the 20th century, former Premier and Foreign Minister Yevgeny Primakov, who died in 2015. In the past China quietly but steadfastly blocked the India’s accession, but with Pakistan, China’s ally joining at the same time, the influence of Beijing and Moscow is harmonized.

The accession of both India and Pakistan to the SCO is also a stunning repudiation of the United States.

    1. The SCO was founded in 1996, not 2001. An interesting article none the less. Though large in population, I have doubts as to it’s actual effectiveness in accomplishing much. The countries are too different in culture and world view. Some of them serious enemies (India vs Pakistan). I see it as a smaller, regionally limited version of the UN….. and you know how effective that organization is. One of their central tenants is ‘don’t get into another countries way of doing things’….. I paraphrase of course.

In short, I’m not alarmed or concerned.

And one more thing, you persist in visiting these leftist (in this case socialist/Russian) sites. It’s great for the purposes of seeing different perspectives but I hope you’re being a bit skeptical as you read them.

    2. I find the notion that Moscow thinks it will run that show to be very amusing. China is the big dog in that group; Russia is a broken pile.

  16. In addition to cratering markets, Trump’s trade war is destroying US jobs:

“Few people are talking about businesses like Mid Continent Nail Corporation in Poplar Bluff, Missouri, which announced last week that it would have to lay off 200 workers—about 40 percent of its workforce—before Labor Day due to increased steel prices created by Trump’s tariffs. The 25 percent tariff on imported steel makes it impossible for the company to compete with cheaper nails produced in places like China, a company spokeswoman told MissouriNet.com.

The same is true for the 1,500 jobs at three Arkansas-based tire cord manufacturing plants. All three say they will be forced to close their plants unless they can get relief from the Trump administration’s steel tariffs.”

“Director David Lynch: Trump ‘Could Go Down as One of the Greatest Presidents in History’

Veteran filmmaker David Lynch believes President Donald Trump could be remembered as one of the greatest presidents in American history because of the way he has shaken up the political establishment.

In a wide-ranging interview with The Guardian, Lynch admitted to supporting Bernie Sanders in the 2016 Democratic primary, before supporting Libertarian candidate Gary Johnson in the presidential election. However, he now appears to believe that Trump may have been the right choice.

“I am not really a political person, but I really like the freedom to do what you want to do,” Lynch explained. “[Trump] could go down as one of the greatest presidents in history because he has disrupted the thing so much. No one is able to counter this guy in an intelligent way.”

“Our so-called leaders can’t take the country forward, can’t get anything done,” the Oscar-nominated director said. “Like children, they are. Trump has shown all this.””

Harley, stung by tariffs, shifts some production overseas

MILWAUKEE — Production of Harley-Davidson motorcycles sold in Europe will move from U.S. factories to facilities overseas, the Milwaukee-based company announced Monday, a consequence of the retaliatory tariffs the EU is imposing on American exports in an escalating trade war with the Trump administration.

  19. “Harley-Davidson said it will not raise its prices to avert “an immediate and lasting detrimental impact” on sales in Europe. It will instead absorb a significant amount of the cost in the near term. It anticipates the cost for the rest of the year to be approximately $30 million to $45 million.”
