  1. Good. Suzuki is a self-serving ignoramus and hypocrite.

One of the most bizarre things I’ve ever seen was Suzuki – for years a media darling on climate change – express his puzzlement during an Australian forum when an audience member referred to the widely known global temperature sets RSS, UAH etc.

The disbelief in the audience was palpable. This man knows nothing and opposes everything. He’s a destructive misanthrope and an enemy of modern civilization.

  2. … without engaging in rational discourse and debate …”

Suzuki’s religious beliefs don’t survive discourse or debate … his orthodoxy crumbles under scrutiny …

  3. I am very, VERY happy that Dr Fruit-fly’s honorary appointment to the UofA resulted in this very appropriate but very bad publicity for the UofA. Whoever, raised the idea of this “appointment” should be axed, or at least be given a long “vacation” without pay.

      1. FYI,

If you click pete’s link and go to the bottom there is a link to email your thoughts on Fraser Forbes letter.
for what it’s worth I sent a quick message in support of Forbes.
He went on a limb writing that letter, knowing people back him may direct the University’s actions.

  4. Sent to MoodysGartner:

Realizing you’re likely incredibly busy as April 30th approaches, I just wanted to commend your firm for having the chutzpah to publically repudiate the unearned and unwarranted honorary degree being bestowed on David Suzuki by the University of Alberta. This takes great courage in this PC world, but your conviction and support for your province is honourable and admirable.

Mr. Suzuki is largely a fraud and hypocrite, a darling of the CBC and a shameless self-promoter. It was time someone stated that this little pseudo-‘science emperor’ has no clothes. Thank you and please share with your partners/colleagues .

I’d encourage others to support them as well, as they may take some ‘progressive flack’ over being principled.

    1. “Mr. Suzuki is largely a fraud and hypocrite, a darling of the CBC and a shameless self-promoter.”
      He’s also an asshole.

  5. I am also a U Of A alumnus saying Bravo, dudes.
By the way, did anyone bother a few years back to watch Suzuki’s CBC funded series called Geologic Journeys? The opening narrative, by the precious David himself said, and I paraphrase…”the planet has undergone climate change for billions of years…” etc,
Yup, and ice ages and all that solar flare cycle there is a time under the sun shite.
    The nature of things indeed….
In short…piss off suzuki and your ilk. Your ilk are a tiring lot of humourless trough swine…

    1. If I recall correctly, the last time there was a flap about the U of A bestowing an honorary doctorate was when there was talk about Ralph Klein being awarded one. But that was due to public backlash.

I remember reading in New Trail many years ago of how the university actually turned down a possible candidate. Back then, the provincial government quietly put in a request to give one to Bill Aberhart. Apparently, the senate disapproved and the matter went no further. But it was the last time that ever happened. The U of A was given to understand that if it knew what was good for it, it would quietly agree the next time such a suggestion was made.

  6. This push back has been happening to Conservatives chosen as commencement speakers in the U.S. for decades.

Glad to hear of someone (apparently) on our side pushing back. Bravo!

  7. Frikkin hilarious.
    Elect an NDP government.
Alberta Heritage Fund value = $17.5 Billion.
Norway Oil Fund = $1 TRILLION plus.
Honorary doctorate for anti-oil hypocrite Zuzuki.
    What’s next?
    Renaming Calgary as Trudeaupia?
Renaming the Flames as the Flickers?
    Blame the Maritimes.
    Or the fumes.

  8. I don’t understand why the U of A alumnus is saying “bravo”.
A “thank you” to Moodys seems more appropriate.
Or perhaps a mumbled, “The university wasn’t like that when I attended.”

The world will see U of A give SUZUKI this honorary degree. When you say Bravo and immediately identify as a alumnus that implies to me you are celebrating this degree.

I would strongly encourage anyone who gives U of A money to reconsider.

    1. When you say Bravo and immediately identify as a alumnus that implies to me you are celebrating this degree.

Uh, no. I was giving approval to the stand taken by the law firm. I may be a U of A alumnus, but I have long stopped supporting it as well as its actions.

  9. There was a controversy some years ago about Margaret Somervile getting an honorary degree (She dares to suggest that there is a moral aspect to the abortion decision and points out some problematical examples. Of course lefties who dislike having to deal with moral questions made a big fuss. I think she withdrew (various professors threatened to turn their backs). She wanted to save the university embarrassment. (It might have been Ryerson.) If Suzuki had any integrity he would withdraw. The board has made an error and hopefully other alumni will cut back on their donations.

  10. If Suzuki had any integrity… – well, there’s yer problem right there!

Suzuki has NO integrity – he has only ego. Massive ego, CRUSHING ego, YUUUUUGE ego! He’s in love with himself, his ‘message’, the soothing, dulcet tones of his voice, his swaying position on the world stage… and of course, he’s in love with money. And Greeeen Weeeenyism is where the money is – at least for now.

He’d NEVER walk-away from something like this; he wholeheartedly believes he deserves it and wonders pointedly why UofA took so long, and we who’d tell him otherwise are far beneath his lofty gaze. In case you didn’t grasp it – naw, I don’t like him much.

  11. There is no way the UA will withdraw the degree. They didn’t anticipate the backlash from their alumni but they sure as hell have from the fruitfly. No way they want to get into a pissing match with him and his supporters.

They will have to put up with the alumni and the loss of funds.

    1. As I mentioned elsewhere on this thread, the University of Alberta was raked over the coals after it turned down a request to award Bill Aberhart an honorary degree. To the best of my knowledge, it never said no again.

      1. Maybe conservatives should protest the event at the time it is awarded. They could go out with masks, signs and intimidation tactics just like the left so often does when they disagree with something. I for one would like to see more conservatives being proactive about protesting!

  12. “If Suzuki had any integrity he would withdraw”

Suzuki has no integrity other than claiming to be a Scientific journalist with an (Communist) absolute opinion
Suzuki plays a children’s scientist on CBC. He is a totally fake because Science opinions are NOT absolute… The CBC has pushed this fraudulent fake as the only wisdom worthy of been broadcast in CANADA…. Only in Canada would fake science find a home….

I congratulate the Law firm for their worthy evaluation of Suzuki’s non-scientific contribution to Alberta and Canada…

    1. Hopefully, with a little Karma, Dr. Fruitfly will get hammered by Horgan’s unoccupied home tax. If you haven’t been following it, it’s a 1% levy on the assessed value of any property not occupied for a full 6 months. And that’s in addition to property tax. On a $1 million property, that’s an extra 10 grand. And he had 3 of those (in 2010 dollars.) Looks good on him.

  13. Law school donation? How about donating to the (maybe) new law school at Trinity Western University in Langley, BC? I’m certain they would appreciate your support.

  14. How do we get someone nominated for one of these honorary degrees? Jordan Peterson would be a worthy recipient. Unlike Suzuki he was actually born, raised, and educated in Alberta. And it would drive Notley and her comrades wild for a variety of reasons.

  15. I just heard on a radio news cast that the president of UofA has DEFENDED choosing Dr fruit-fly for an honorary degree – he said that UofA is open hearing to all sides on all issues, blah, blah, blah.

  16. In my opinion, David Suzuki’s statement that “the science is settled” has got to rank among the stupidest statements ever made by anyone with a PhD. And Suzuki evidently thinks that people who don’t agree with his particular beliefs ought to be thrown in jail which, to say the least, is an interesting twist on the “scientific method.”

  17. this just landed in the U of A’s president’s inbox:

to the office of the president, University of Alberta:
I wish to express extreme dismay and objection to the selection of Mr Suzuki for honorary degree on the following grounds:
he is a Triple AAA hypocrite regarding ‘carbon footprint’ being the owner of multiple residences, the tally now as high as possibly FIVE including one in Australia. Dont take my word for it, ask him.
he is also on record for designating the human race as (quote) “maggots”:
    https://hauntingthelibrary.wordpress.com/2012/05/12/flashback-1972-david-suzuki-humans-are-maggots-that-defecate-all-over-the-environment/
does that include him? you? you’re giving a degree to a man who called us all MAGGOTS?

Personally, I took great umbrage at this fraud’s promoting the ‘environment/energy saving’ curly-Q fluorescent lite bulbs which contain MERCURY.
    https://www.scientificamerican.com/article/are-compact-fluorescent-lightbulbs-dangerous/
It wasn’t difficult at the time to find huge billboards with his happy mug ‘holding’ one of them:
    http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_6fsyw_gDa1s/RnxPRob9AVI/AAAAAAAAAHE/IUg36dZEfEc/s400/suzuki_billboard.jpg
It’s too late now, but in future, please do NOT diminish the honorary degree system by granting one to the likes of Suzuki.

  18. I’m glad I stumbled on this story and comments. Protests should be made as best possible.
I’ve kept a photo-essay on the energy hypocrisy for some years now. Might show up by Googling “Energy Curiosities”.
