  6. I brought down a charging rhinopotomus with my break bolt lever pump .22 gauge.
    Just north of Moose Jaw.
    Took him right out of the air at 6000 yards.
    I was using my Duck Commander XP#6400 rhinopotomus call and he came right into the decoys.

    Dressed out at 34,000 lbs.

    We celebrated with Canadian Club afterwards.

        Granted, it was a full-auto pointed stick with an 85-round “clip” but when you’re four you can only take so much kick from a weapon.

        They’re an interesting creature, with left legs shorter than their right; they can only go coounterclockwise around a hill, which makes them easy to stalk.

  7. I’d like to write about the caliber you should use to hunt Liberals – only as a joke, mind you – but that’s illegal and in poor taste.
    Using a .22 would be – besides dangerous – cruel and inhumane to bear and moose, and that’s no joke, but ironically, very Liberal.

    1. Even if we give her the benefit of the doubt and assume that she meant “.22 calibre”, I’m pretty sure that it is illegal in all jurisdictions of both Canada and the US to use a .22 when hunting big game.

      So she’s either stupid or she just confessed to a crime.

      1. Double ought buckshot at close range will bring down a moose. Inside of 20 yards. There are 15 BB’s the size of 22 bullets in each shot case. It would make a hell of a mess. It would almost cut a home invader in two.

        That is which it is recommended for personal self defense by many experts. You don’t even have to aim, just point the gun in the right direction.

        Then toss in a couple of number 9 shot and it’s off to the skeet field.

I did get the gist of it from the comments above. What to say? Yes Gerry I had the same problem but I stuck the speaker right in my ear and I am pretty sure she said, “i have a rifle shotgun twenty two gage fer ptarmigan moose black bear.” Now you well know that I am not generally inclined to give liebrals the benefit of the doubt, but maybe we should try it, just this once, to see what happens. If she meant to say, rifle shotgun 22 /12 gage or 22/20 gage like the Savage model 24v (actually 222/20) I sold to Bill just before he went to Australia? Then all makes sense and she may have been trying to tell the truth. Imagine her frustration! Surprise? She has so often spoken falsely that she is ridiculed for falsehood when trying to tell the truth. Ha! Ha!

      C21 needs to be scrapped in it’s entirety, not just tweaked for the “hunters”. They will come after all civilian firearms in due time regardless, and the hunting community will only make that day easier if they settle on these manipulative terms today.

      1. Agreed. Once again we get killed by our own argument. It’s the same thing with trophy hunting. Once we allowed them to qualify our right to hunt we set ourselves on the road to banning hunting altogether (for non Indians that is).
        We don’t need to justify our right to own guns, they need to justify taking away freedoms we currently have.

    20 Gauge slug would kill a moose or bear, but you’d have to be pretty darn close. You’d probably be in the bears claws or the moose’s rack by the time it would work. I wouldn’t want to be that close if you didn’t hit a kill spot.
    20 Gauge slug is possible for deer, range about 75 yds, but you need to be real steady. Muzzle velocity is down to about 1/2 by 100 yds and accuracy will be way off.

    Be thankful it didn’t say 410 gauge .22 cal.

    I know something about guns and hunting, so there is no way they’ll let me speak.

  32. The native guys in the arctic hunt everything with small caliber. Lots of .223 – everything from seal to polar bear.

    When I was a colt my trapper Dad shot and killed a moose with a .22 rimfire and I know a guy who killed a grizz with one so it can be done.

    Most jurisdictions outlaw big game hunting with rimfire ammunition. The natives of course are exempt from those regulations.

    Her argument is absurd to anyone even vaguely familiar with hunting.

        I read something years ago about Inuit (“Eskimos”, at the time) hunting polar bear with .22 caliber rifle. Apparently they shot them in the ear, to preserve the pelts. I remember thinking that they could have been using a .223, which is *technically* still a 22.

Don’t know what gun my future father-in-law (sadly he died long before I met his son) used, but we have the bearskin rug he had made from the bear who was bothering the critters on his parents’ acreage. Question is now who gets it. One grandbrat really wants it so can put in bedroom and keep sister out; kid might just find it mounted on bedroom wall for Christmas.
