King’s “The Stand” may unintentionally become a preface to our near future. I believe what’s happening right now has been in the works for decades right under our noses.
We can be grateful that we’re not led by someone like that. After all, it couldn’t happen here, could it? Noooooooo, never in a million years….. (Maggie must be so proud for having inflicted such a monster on the world, assuming she’s not so doped up that she doesn’t know where she is any more.)
They’re not even trying to hide it anymore
The government can’t give your life meaning. Nor does a lack of employment necessarily make your life useless. You have purpose to your god or gods and to your family ( if you make/ maintain one). We might see a lot of people falling back onto games and drugs/booze. This isn’t new. There’s just more of them these days. Regardless of why that is, our elites will not solve our problems for us.
I can think of ways to amuse ourselves. How about we round up 1,000 of the worst offenders, devise insanely cruel and inhuman ways to end their lives slowly, and force the the 999 remaining to watch their fate, and film the reaction? That seems like a few months well used, and then make sure it is widely available with a warning to the next bunch who want to control the world.
The foregoing is just a daydream, but history is littered with examples of these clowns, they always end badly, I wonder what fate has in store for the current crop of megalomaniacs? I think the great re-reset may come when enough people who think they are in the club find out they are not. That is a lot of bitterness and anger which will be directed in interesting ways.
I’ve outlived a lot of machines. Wondering how well thought out this is or is it like green energy? We can be more sustainable by consuming faster, out of sight or something.
Not really interested in listening to any more from the guy with the dead eyes. He’s no Socrates. Heard him claim there is “no free will” which apparently is so “true” that it is necessary to persuade (!), gas light, censor and eventually coerce with social credits, jail and shutting off bank accounts. They aren’t very good at believing their own b@llsh*t. I’m sure there’s some half baked circular argument on why make effort on anything at all. It’s drivel, pseudo philosophy.
If you believe in consciousness as the soul (and they do, or what exactly is the point of a transfer of an individual, unique me – I – self into a machine for immortality?) and if you believe in the indestructibility of consciousness after the body dies, (heaven, re-incarnation) then immortality is already solved. Why then should it be necessary to transfer to a machine target? Seem limited and unimaginative. Sure I get that these guys believe consciousness ends with the body but they haven’t even proven what consciousness is, beyond some hand waving theory. The most important part of their thesis is treated as an after thought. This is why the machine must come to the man and not the other way around. They remind me of a guy I sat next to on a plane. He died and was revived. He said that there was noting after death. Nothing but this vibrant, clear, silent blackness. So who exactly experienced, recognized and remembered this “nothing” so well that he could describe it in vivid detail to me? He went on to say he needed to learn as much as possible before he died. That was his new life’s mission. What’s the point? If he really believed there was “nothing” after? Sometimes people need to look deeper. Like this “advisor”.
Even if all that awaits us is oblivion, that is still not a valid reason to so fear death that one is willing to so deeply pervert one’s own self by trying to upload into a machine; in fact, I’d say the desire to do so is indicative of a serious mental illness.
The challenge we face as a species is not brought about by overpopulation, but by any threat of nuclear war.
Globalism is basically the Kingdom without God, which of course is a very bad idea, whoever would take on the role of God would end up making all the mistakes that Hitler or Stalin made in their time.
The globalists imagine that if all national governments believed the same things, there would be a harmonious world order. The problem with that is the obvious fact that many nations will never believe what western globalists believe, and also that what they believe is not optimal either. Identity politics is a sure recipe for national stagnation as creative competitive models are shoved aside so that “everybody is equal” which is simply a refutation of the basic human principle that everybody is unequal. If everybody was equal, then everybody would have an equal grievance and therefore no grievance relatively speaking.
The thing that becomes disturbing about modern globalism is that it has sucked in the neo-con movement which used to be almost its enemy, so that now we have Patriots so to speak who champion lost causes and sure-fire express lanes to social self-destruction. The kind of person who, fifty years ago, reflexively said “we have to watch the KGB” now says “we have to watch the right wing extremists and nationalists.” To make this a little easier on their tiny minds, they say that Russia is behind the white nationalist movement. So they can keep the same set of enemies and the profits flowing into war corporations who make their money blasting hopeless countries into oblivion, more or less to prove they can.
His book “Sapiens” was the talk of the chattering classes a year or so back. I found it basically unreadable, full of off-the-cuff generalizations and very superficial analyses of pretty much everything it purported to address. Sam Harris interviewed him a few weeks back and I was similarly unimpressed. What a nothingburger schmuck.
