Ruminations

Friday evening I had a video chat with a long time friend from Vancouver. I’d describe him as center left politically with a mild case of TDS. For some reason, he has a particular hatred for Ted Cruz. He mentioned some recent debate he watched between Cruz, who is a senator from Texas, and an Australian politician. He claimed that this man down under “destroyed” Cruz. “After all,” he added, “how could Cruz possibly defend the Texas during Covid over Australia?”

This past year, I had the great pleasure of spending 6 weeks in Texas. A month after leaving the People’s Republic of San Francisco, I entered Texas via Amarillo and, within hours, was immediately reminded of what freedom and sane people were like. Over the next month I visited Abilene, Austin, and Houston, spoke with hundreds of people and regained my pre-Covid perspective of reality. 3 months later, I returned to Texas for another 2 weeks.

I’m now in San Diego. I was shopping this afternoon and estimated the Indoor CMQ to be about 25% and outdoors to be about 5%. I got to thinking that we’re approaching nearly 2 years and some people, young and old, are still wearing masks much of their day in public and, who knows, maybe even in private.

Reflecting on the conversation with my friend, it seems that a sizable portion of the population, particularly in urban areas, have voluntarily traded most of their freedoms for the promise of “safety” from their governments. As long as they believe that they are guaranteed to live a long life, it doesn’t matter to them how many rights they give up. If you know any people like this, here are some questions you may want to ask them:

  • How many months/years do they plan to keep on wearing masks?
  • Double-vaccinated people currently have full freedom to go to restaurants, bars, get on trains & flights, etc.  When the next booster shot becomes mandatory, do they realize that not taking it will make them “unworthy”?
  • How frequently are they prepared to accept “booster” injections into their bodies? Yearly?  Monthly?
  • If their government demands a contact tracing app be installed on their phones, will they comply?  Will they respond within 15 minutes to every message from Big Brother?
  • If such apps are “upgraded” to constantly monitor all audio and new laws are passed to jail anyone who doesn’t keep these apps running 24/7, will they comply?
  • If a social credit system is installed in their country, will they alter their behavior to not offend their masters?

Of course, even asking such questions is the mark of a right-wing conspiracy theorist / domestic terrorist mais c’est la vie.

  1. Yes Robert, and that is why I am an atheist. A promise to go to heaven, by giving up my freedoms was/is not appealing.

As to Candace and her joke, she is a real conservative, and a sweetheart. Got to love that girl!

  2. Conservatives shedding crocodiles’ tears about the loss of personal freedoms and government over-reach, when in fact conservatives created TSA and passed PATRIOT and C-51 laws.

Double standards — twice as good.

    1. “Conservatives”, like Cheney and Shrub?

Yeah, they proved themselves as CINOs and neo-cons, with their never-Trump stances.

I seriously question Dubya’s “born again” status, given his actions since, could be just another political mirage, created for support. But, that’s between him and our Maker.

          1. “Coof” doesn’t mean COVID, you ignorant pile of moldy stool, and there’s no cure for it.

  3. I think you really only need to ask one question of these True Believers – what goals would the government demand you meet in order for government to return your freedoms to you would be too much for you to accept?

  4. Goverments exist to ensure government existence.
Killing individual liberty strengthen’s goverment power.
Most peole would bud into the line entering the government sanctioned abbatoir if told to.

    1. Goverments exist to ensure government existence.

The sole purpose of any bureaucracy is to maintain its existence.

      1. James M Buchanan won a Nobel Economics for just that. Wiki Public Choice Theory.
The safety, income, security, title, prestige and pension of everyone in a beurocracy is dependent on GROWING problems. Making things worse.

  5. Texas is a place that bans private employers from asking their employees to get the shot and is becoming Gilead by SB8. You don’t what ‘freedom’ is.

    1. Lie.
      You can ask. Period.
      You cant force, or fire.

Anyone who wants to get two, four, eight, free shots of two, three different vaccines, double, tripple mask, gloves, face shield is free to do so.

  6. Robert, you just described Victoria. The population is compliant, obedient, and very well controlled.

The operation is very much complete, society is clearly divided into 2 camps.

Majority of society is easily controlled, and manipulated by Big Media and Big Tech’s endless propaganda. That battle was won, Goebbels would be very proud indeed of state, provincial and national governments how they perfected the Propaganda Game.
    Never question Official FB posts.
Never question the Talking Head at 6pm.
Never question Social Media. The need to BELONG to the pack. Willing to do what seem like little things (tracking apps) to “keep their freedoms” of sitting in restaurants for Travel, overpriced food, attending overpriced sports events, etc. (Sidebar, at the new Seattle hockey arena, the suckers are paying $10/bottled water, $16 for a Beer….in American dollars……….Freedom?)
Very successful PsyOp. The same players successfully got rid of the Bad Orange Man, so, THEY-ARE-TRUSTED-WITHOUT-QUESTION.
Yet, the same majority of the public, double jabbed, devotedly committed to Bonnie St Henry, still lives in fear (masks) and don’t question the 700 cases per day in BC as a problem. “Its all those anti-vaxxers”, Eat, Sleep, Breathe the propaganda from the talking Heads.

Our youth easily submit to the social media masters. They willingly give all their personal info to FB, Twatter, IG, TTok. They see no big deal, its “just another app”. They have been pre-conditioned to become part of the social credit machine.

Justin loves his communist Chinese pals. He will embrace, if not already, the system to control the system. He clearly has become more disturbed than ever, from the election campaign, that the country clearly does NOT love him from sea to sea. His mean streak is barely concealed for the Deplorables who mocked and chased him throughout. He’s got a grudge and he’s going to carry out whatever needs to be done to teach us all a lesson. Being barred from “planes and trains” is only the beginning.

The only thing that could change the course of history, is another Black Swan event, to wake up the blinded masses, to red pill them.

The mass deaths and crippling of children by the toxic jabs, maybe?

  7. Anyone who does not like freedom of the individual is free to kill themselves in the easiest way possible, just don’t force me to do it?

  8. Progressives unchecked by popular will turn into Marxists who will turn into totalitarians, as sure as the earth orbits the Sun.
No idiotic, counterproductive, divisive, opposite reality notion, on any matter, that serves that power will be rejected. It will be “tried.”

Just like income taxes were “tried” in 1917, the Income Tax War Act. Progressives never thought to it, indeed it became their cash cow.
Collectivist ideologies are founded on crisis, and thus fear. Progressivism naively believes intervention smooths out the rough spots.
of political economy. But all they do is add cost to an entire society, requiring more and more coercive over voluntary transactions, then, as history shows again and again, providing themselves cover for confiscating our treasure, give themselves a reason for being.

Who can forget, though it was a long time ago, the War on Poverty. Now it’s the war of poverty. Because progressivism grows government, and big government exists to sustain and enrich itself, having no capital of its own. That invites transactions of decline.

As the pie gets smaller, the apparatchiks raid our pockets in ways a Mafia don would eschew, not willing to kill his host.
If only government was that smart, but it isn’t. You can’t re-engineer natural rights. Progressives redefine them into something else.
Bill Gairdner: “Wants become needs; needs become rights; rights become claims against the state.” Sound familiar?
Progressivism ignores that a right that does not apply to all equally, that imposes an obligation, is not a right at all. That’s why it fails.
That’s why our western values used to understand the requirement to limit government. Unchecked it ultimately turns on its people.

    1. Osumashi, It ain’t ever gonna be flat again. That’s the rub eh, They keep teasing people that….eventually, it, will get back to normal. Only normal, won’t be anything like what we remember it to be, assuming we can actually remember what normal once was. Like anything, when new, an it, can be novel, but as we get familiar with it, whatever it, might be, we simply absorb the it, into our daily lives. We won’t ever see the old it, anymore, because the new it, is now our normal. Sigh! Gobboldy gook word salad I know, but you understand my meaning I’m sure.

  9. Mask wearing drones are an utter embarrassment.

How about those super-spreader events that college football games were to be? How’d that work out?
