We Don’t Need No Stinking Giant Fans

Germany, the poster child for renewable energy, sourcing close to half of its electricity from renewable sources, plans to close all of its nuclear power plants by 2022. Its coal-fired plants, meanwhile, will be operating until 2038. According to a study from the U.S. non-profit National Bureau of Economic Research, Germany is paying dearly for this nuclear phase-out–with human lives.

The deaths attributed to “pollution from coal power generation” are also agenda-driven statistical extrapolation bullshit.

    1. The dummys should stop killing off power supplies that work and are cheap. If it needs 100% backup all the time then it doesn’t work.

Put modern pollution controls on the coal plants without having to wait 10 years to find out the results of an environmental impact statement.

  1. Probably the best example of climate stupidity and hypocrisy is Jane Fonda. The woman who starred in a movie that sensationalized 3 Mile Island from a non event into a scary earth destroyer, is now flying from LA to Washington every week to protest climate inaction. In other words, the individual who could be claimed to be most responsible for retarding research into nuclear power is pretending to lead the charge against fossil fuels.

  2. Understand the significant difference between Canada & The United States of America; there is a Mainstream Media outlet in the U.S.A. which provides the only News closest to a Balance and this is Fox News

The closest Polling Company to being an attempt for reality states the ABC & CBS & NBC and their multitude of extra alphabet sub net works actively maintain a 90 % anti-Trump Bias. While Fox News maintains a 52 % anti-Trump and a 48 % pro-Trump balance.

Canada does not have any pro-Conservative and certainly Not one Balanced Main Stream Network. In Fact all of the Electronic Media of Central Canada maintains the Pro-Liberal Party scree following the Lead of the CBC which is the Subsidized by Tax-payers funding.

Some will remember P.M. Justin Trudeau promised the Central Canada Media at the beginning of the 2019 Federal Election — There will be subsidies for Central Canada Media if they are “Good”.

A reasonable guess this was a directive from BFF Gerald Butts, the well established Socialist Liberal. He basically worked behind the scenes of the Liberal Party of canada Branch Governments under McGuinty & Wynne help in the destruction Of Ontario’s Education Policy. Butts then attempted to Game the Ontario Tax-Payers with an unjutified Expanse Claim exceeding a Half a Million $$$,$$$.$$ trying to sneak back to Ottawa/Hull.

I am unable to Speak or Read French having a partial Tech School High school education and focusing My Post High School education on Business. Therefore: what Trudeau & Butts present to the Nation of Quebec in the other Official language leaves me relying on the Translation and intent of any French News for accuracy.

I also clearly remember the misused translation(s) by the Toronto Star led to and a minimum assisted in creating the Referendum – allowed only by Quebec Residents — whether to remain within the Confederation of Canada. The result was a less than 1/2 & to remain. I do credit Ontario Conservative Premier Mike Harris with partial success in gaining this small win.

  3. The problem in the Fatherland is that the eco-marxists have been demonizing nuclear power since at least the 1970s, if not earlier. The German Green party was literally built on opposition to nuclear power, and successfully brainwashed several generations of Germans that nuclear is bad. Although half of my family lives there, I can’t find any sympathy for Germany. If you think Canadians are bad when it comes to sneering at Americans and feeling oh so superior, you’ve never witnessed Germans do it. F*ck ’em

  4. Germany’s decision to shut down its nuclear reactors us the most inexplicably destructive and bone-headed maneuver by a developed nation in many years. They will pay for it for decades.

  5. To date, I have never understood Germanys decision to kill off their Nuclear Reactors becuase of Fukashima..?? And to replace that generation with Coal fired.?? That was beyond STOOPID.

The only thing that makes sense is as a political ploy – Germany being about the most Radicalised Enviro-Imbeciles going, their Green Party and 1/2 the nation would have willingly sided/voted with ANY Party willing to do so.

    Merkel is still in command…right.??
Stupid is as Stupid does…(much Like our Liberal party)

  6. I guess Germany was afraid of potential 30 foot tsunamis rising up out of their rivers and inundating their nuclear plants. (Yes, that is sarcasm).

I live near a nuclear plant and a coal fired plant. The nuclear plant receives new fuel every two years on three or four semtrucks. The coal fired plant receives a hundred car train of Wyoming Powder River Basin coal every two days, almost 200 trains every year.

The biggest environmental impact of the nuclear plant are the five hundred plus local employees who drive to work every day to their well paid jobs.

    1. – And if you read Denninger, there’s enough Thorium in any one of those trains to run a nuclear plant for six months.

For those of you who haven’t followed this, the Liquid Flouride Thorium Reactor (the LFTR) is probably the best power-producing reactor we’ve dreamed-up yet. Thorium-232 is just fertile, it’s not fissile – so you start the reactor with a million bucks’ worth of enriched Uranium (i.e., not very much). The Thorium-232 in the solution captures a neutron and morphs into Thorium-233, then into Protactinium-233, and then into Uranium-233 which is a fissile nuclear fuel. You put the U-233 back into the reactor and run it to make power and breed more Thorium to keep the reaction going.

The Thorium reactor has huge advantages over Uranium reactors:

      – only 0.79% (i.e., less than one percent) of Uranium is U-235, which is fissile in a reactor; the rest is all U-238 which is only fissile in a bomb. All of Thorium can be turned to U-233 and burned in a reactor, as detailed above – and Thorium is plentiful. And unlike Uranium, which needs expensive enrichment, Thorium doesn’t.

      – The Thorium LFTR is very safe, since left to its own devices Thorium is non-fissile. The original Thorium reactor was the MSRE at Oak Ridge; and every Friday when the staff left for the weekend, they just turned it off.

      – Because Thorium is lower on the Periodic Table than Uranium, its waste is delightfully free of transuranics – the high-number elements like Plutonium 239 – and therefore its waste is largely free of high-half-life isotopes. Indeed, the LFTR can be used to burn transuranics and other objectionable isotopes.

      – The BEST advantage is, if you leave your Thorium in the mix a little too long, it’ll morph into Uranium 234. U-234 is nasty stuff, a powerful emitter of alpha particles – heavy, energetic particles that can penetrate stuff and trigger their own fissions. So stripping U-233 out of a Thorium reactor to make bombs is largely futile and quite potentially hazardous to your health – and Thorium reactors therefore don’t lend themselves nearly as well to nuclear proliferation as Uranium reactors, whose primary purpose was to breed Plutonium for bombs. This is why the U.S. didn’t go for Thorium reactors – and this is why we really should.

  7. The German energy dementia accumulated over decades, and it came in several phases.

Phase 1: Germany was for decades the NATO frontline with the USSR. West Germany lived with and grew up with the notion that WW3 might break out at any time in their front yard. Even if it was not a strategic war, it could be a “conventional” war involving tactical nuclear weapons. Either way, Germany would become an uninhabitable nightmare. The Greens have been extremely successful in portraying civilian nuclear power generation as indistinguishable from military applications of nuclear explosives. Even today, this myth exists strongly among North Americans and Europeans particularly on the Left.

Phase 2: Chernobyl drove home the risk of nuclear power with the spreading of fallout around the world. The fact that this fallout had no detectible health effect didn’t matter. Germans on the Left were accustomed to accepting Greenpeace et.al. as the gospel truth about nuclear, and they accepted Greenpeace propaganda about Chernobyl eventually causing 30,000+ fatalities.

Phase 3: Waste management. The German Greens had been highly successful in blocking all solutions to dealing with their used nuclear fuel waste. This created the perception that it could not be dealt with and had no solutions of any kind.

Phase 4: Unions. Nuclear power was opposed in Germany by the big coal miners unions, just as it was in Britain. The difference between Germany and France is that in the 1980s, Germany still had large coal reserves, whereas France’s were largely depleted. Coal miners’ votes were essential to the Christian Democrat Union (the German so-called right of centre party) so there was always at least some antinuclear traction within the right wing.

Phase 5: Political instability. At the time of Fukushima, Angela Merkel’s government was dependent upon political support from the German Socialist Party. The Left was at the time gaining strength in Germany, so a nuclear phase-out perhaps seemed a cheap way to produce domestic political peace.

    1. All this said, this sentence is probably wrong.

“The deaths attributed to “pollution from coal power generation” are also agenda-driven statistical extrapolation bullshit. ”

Not so. There is some clinical evidence for the direct harm of SOx, NOx, high levels of ozone, and small particulates. This is part of the deception of the global warmers. They lump together ALL of the various emissions from fossil fuels and their effects with CO2.

  8. Really do want to know how they are going to build wind turbines and solar panels without fossil fuels. I also want to know just how much CO2 they think should be in the atmosphere? keeping in mind, of course that when it hits 150 ppm we are all dead, them included. As I have said many times, CANADIANS ARE STUPID.

  9. I wonder if the Dummkopfs fly anywhere for vacation because the radiation they get from that is 100% guaranteed whereas the odds of a nuclear power plant affecting them with radiation is a fraction of a fraction of a percent at best and that’s over an entire lifetime.
Heaven help them if they got any potassium in them from eating a banana.

    1. Bananas are for putting in your pants, not eating.

Signed Blackie ,the Groping Gay Pirate

  10. I often see a bone-headed move like this (Germany) and worry that Canada will lose its crown, then, blacky mcblackface does something to reassure me that the crown is safe. there’s great comfort in knowing your place…

  11. I am a proponent of Nuclear Power. It’s cost-effective, clean, and safe (so long as stupid human errors are minimized). However! The notion of 1,100 people dying per year due to fossil fuel power generation is just idiotic on its face. From the article …

The results of the study, which used machine learning to analyze the data,

Right. Another computer model discovers what the programmers wanted to discover. Input JUST the right data … and voila! Fossil fuels murder people. Show me the pathology, and autopsy results. Show me all the contributing factors of “death by fossil fuel”. Are there 1,100 Germans who put a hose from their Volkswagen tailpipe into the sealed interior and took a long nap … like my next door neighbor did? OK then … I’ll accept those deaths as “caused” by fossil fuel (coupled with mental illness). Otherwise, your machine learning is nothing more than silly, nonsensical, “modeling”.

PS … I sincerely hope the actual Nuclear Power Plants aren’t being operated by the FOOLS who programmed their “machines to learn” such nonsense. THAT would scare me about Nuclear Power.

  12. 1100 dead.
    per year.
not to mention the many many more whose lungs and trachea
are damaged by pollution but still live. aka COPD.
    leftoids.
