Joe – generally speaking, a tax return is “statute barred” after ten years. So CRA would have to determine serious fraud to look into those old donations. However, even if they did get the deduction, they would have had to pay tax on the “bonus” SNCL gave them to compensate for the donation. I rather think there would have to be a criminal investigation before any bogus donor could get in trouble, and I’m not certain if this would be considered “money laundering” or near offer. After all, the donation was made and the bonus was declared and taxed.

The US has drastically reduced funding until the Palestinians agree to peace talks. If peace talks were successful would they lose their funding?

Joe – generally speaking, a tax return is “statute barred” after ten years. So CRA would have to determine serious fraud to look into those old donations. However, even if they did get the deduction, they would have had to pay tax on the “bonus” SNCL gave them to compensate for the donation. I rather think there would have to be a criminal investigation before any bogus donor could get in trouble, and I’m not certain if this would be considered “money laundering” or near offer. After all, the donation was made and the bonus was declared and taxed.

The article refers to the “UN Relief and Works Agency”. The actual name is the “UN Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East” or (UNRWA). This agency has been funding the “refugees” since the 1950s. Recently the Trump administration commented that the UNRWA “perpetuates a status quo, is corrupt, inefficient and doesn’t help peace”. The US has drastically reduced funding until the Palestinians agree to peace talks. If peace talks were successful would they lose their funding?
The UNRWA is the only agency in the UN that allows people to inherit refugee status.
