My parents survived WW II and both of them likely had PTSD. For many years, my mother would shudder every time she heard thunder and I don’t think my father ever got over what he had to go through.
Being bombed, attacked, and occupied by an enemy army tends to do that to people.

When I was a colt and was starting to date my old mom sat me down and gave me this advice. She said,”trapper women are devious. ”
I didnt have a clue what she was telling me. I thought they all smelled nice looked good and were sweet. I got my lock picked pretty good before I came to understand the wisdom of her advice.

I’ve been married (mostly) happily for 35 years. However, speaking of having locks picked … I had a “starter” wife. Until she, without any prior hint, or suggestion, or “sign” … cleaned out our apartment of EVERYTHING while I was at work. Imagine coming home from a hard days work, opening the door and seeing … nothing. Not a plate, dish, stick of furniture, or picture on the wall. Nothing but your clothes and your 10-speed bike. No note. No Tweet, or email (pre-internet days). Nothing. First thing I did was to phone the police. They laughed at me … saying thieves aren’t … quite … so … thorough. Only then, did I realize what a HORROR of a mistake I made. Lapse of judgement. Failure to detect any sign, or hint of her underlying mental illness. Not only did she bail on me … but even changed her name to some weird amalgam of new-agery nonsense. Mahalia something or other. As it turned out … she was a fantastic little bedroom minx … and nothing else. Nothing. Empty. Devoid of the “deep” soul she presented. Ouch. ouch. Ouch. Lesson learned.
About a year later my only brother died at age 28 from a rare, virulent, form of cancer. No … I was not very pleased with God’s VERY unfunny Book of Job on me. I can not honestly say which hurt worse … losing my brother … or losing my “life partner”? Both put the most hollow gutted HURT on me I’ve ever felt.
But just as I’ve never “hated” my parents for being a couple of horribly flawed people, nor did I blame “all women” as being hollow, shallow, demons. As the last Knight Templar in the Indiana Jones series quipped … “you have chosen … poorly” … when I picked-up that sexy-looking chalice and drank deeply from its golden rim. And it almost turned me to dust. Thankfully, I found a more humbly-constructed “carpenters cup” … and it’s healing waters reversed the damage.
And yes, I actually HAVE thought about writing an autobiography. But then, I stop and think that nothing I’ve experienced is really noteworthy. We ALL have our crosses to bear, winters to endure, and difficulties to navigate. Nobody gets out of this life alive … and very few unscathed.
