  1. She was the best.

“Eternal rest grant unto her, O Lord, and make perpetual Light to shine upon her.”

  2. Sometimes the First Lady has a more enduring legacy, like Betty Ford. ( in my lifetime).

  3. She seemed a real mensch to me … whatever the female equivalent. The definitive Matriarch.

  4. Was sad to hear this news. She was a good person, rock solid, classy in her own way and never pretentious.

You have a spouse like Mrs. Bush and you are in very good hands.

  5. ICYMI, Harry “the Hat” Anderson also left us today. Night Court was one of the great TV shows of the 80s.

  6. Barbara Bush was a first class lady as well as a classy First Lady. It seems un fathomable that she would be succeeded by the likes of such a despicable person as Hillary Clinton.

  7. I think she was the only one in the family who didn’t think Jeb Bush should run for president. After she got in line.

  8. Barbara Bush was everything that a First Lady should be – responsible, good-humored, courteous . . .

Perhaps my favorite thing about her was her ability to laugh at herself. At one point, a reporter was asking her about what it was like to succeed Nancy Reagan, who was, of course, quite slender. One thing that she said was, “She’s a size four and so is my left leg.” It takes a great woman to say something like that about herself.

  9. The true measure of a person’s character is how the treat the ”help”. A former White House staffer wrote a behind-the-scenes book a few years ago and he said that Barbara Bush (and her husband) were unfailingly courteous, considerate and kind. Also completely unpretentious. The worst occupants of the WH to work for? It was a tie between Jimmy Carter and Hillary Clinton – both of them were beastly and rude.
