Ontario PC Leadership

Update: They finally made it official. Doug Ford wins.

I’ve been out of radio contact for a few hours. This is the latest I’ve found on the results…

Twitter chatter indicates Ford won narrowly, and a manual recount was asked for for Christine Elliot, so no decision yet. (Didn’t they do this electronically???)
This seems to be confirmed, however.

So it appears the basic takeaway is that the party is run by a bunch of morons. They’re being kicked out of the room before a decision can be announced, because they only booked it until 7pm.

Just pack the province up and mail it to California where it belongs. I’m out of here.
(CBC says Doug Ford has prevailed… but Hillary is refusing to concede.)

  1. they dumped the brown clown because people like me threatened to campaign against him, and there were many of us. He fvcked up when he went all trudough and signed onto the carbon tax. Try keeping up fool!!

  2. The goal is not to get Wynne out. The goal is to elect a conservative premier. To elect a conservative premier there has to be one running. If there isn’t one running there is no point in voting. You seem to be the one who is more concerned with electing “Team PC” than electing a conservative. While people like me and Colonialista are concerned about electing a conservative. There is no point in going out of our way to elect “Team PC’ if they are no different than the people they are replacing.

  3. I think Ford won because the Conservatives in this Province got fed up with being jerked around, and if all the “part time” conservatives don’t like it, that’s too bad. If people were so keen to get rid of Wynne, they could have voted for Hudak last time. He was not so bad. Cons could have supported Eliot last time. She eould still be there. Now the conservstives have become so angry with the abusive Wynne government, they are coming out in spades to support a solid conservative. Personally, I am cheered by this result. An old Arab saying seems appropriate: “Dogs bark, but the caravan moves on.”

  4. Wait, so in your universe cuckservatives abandoned conservatism and went alt right? Ugh, I don’t think you got that one right. But hey, go with it, whatever helps to ease the butthurt.

  5. I am not sure about that. Perhaps. My current theory is that Elliott team wanted to get rid of Brown and corner support from all the Libranos jumping ship. Would have worked had Ford did not dump a big steaming pile allover their plans.

  6. “If there isn’t one running there is no point in voting. ”
Precisely, I like many others, went from “will stay home and not vote for Brown” to buying party memberships when Ford entered the race.

  7. UnMe and scf, please f— off. You’re not adding anything to this thread but your filthy footprints. Grow up.
Also, one should remember that the Liberals are an organised crime syndicate (no word of exaggeration) and have kept unions powerful and unaccountable just so that they could sway elections in the Liberals’ favour. Even if Ford (if he is indeed the victor) were to lose to Wynne, it wouldn’t be for lack of trying but, as every banana republic should know by now, graft walks and talks. THAT’S the Liberal way!
If Ford is the winner, let’s hold his feet to the fire and hope that he stanches the flow of life-blood from Ontario.

  8. In less than 18 months we could have four provinces 56% of Canadians being led by four of THE MOST conservative parties in the country’s history.
Let’s get Canada back in the ranks of the world’s greatest countries – by making it freer.
    Vote Conservative.

  9. Honestly, the best strategy in Ontario, is to force the Liberals to win. Any riding where a Liberal is on the ballot; do not oppose them. Give them a simple choice; either publicly admit they cannot run the province and they run zero candidates, or they win by aclamation if they want to live in denial, and Ontario goes down the drain with them.
As others have noted, the faster Ontario burns to the ground, the faster the rebuild can begin. Whomever the leader turns out to be,

  10. Agreed. Me too. I was so disgusted by Brown that I was going to abstain from voting for the first time ever in my 58 years.
Now I can vote. I feel good.

  11. Salt. Nothing but salt. Take your own advice. Grow up and stem the butthurt.
Someone seriously said that Ford had the best chance of victory in a general election. This is false; polls show him with the worst numbers vs Wynne of all the choices-but still better than Brown.

  12. I felt the same. Woukd not have voted for Brown. I am ok with Ford, but we also gave a Trillium Party candidate in my riding. He is the incumbent, so he has a decent chance. Either way, it is a vote against Wynne.

  13. I think you and minuteman are right. Conservative people got fed up with liberal lite. I discovered a few minutes ago that my brother-in-law, his wife and one of my cousins and his wife voted for Ford. They did not want liberal lites.
Lets hope that Ontario voters have enough of the crooks and Soros money doesn’t work.

  14. Ford being an outsider to the political establishment in Ontario, plus not giving too much of a shlt for cozying up to said establishment, should he win – we just might see some swamp draining here as well.
    There is hope.

  15. *
you’ll notice unme stays away from the ford drug smears
unme, sweetie… i thought you be embarrassed to show your face
after mounting a defense of canada’s biggest opioid dealer ever.
“The only outrage here is the continued persecution of people for
committing non-crime such as drug dealing and owning guns.”

    soken like a true conservative.

  16. those polls, yup, and Hitlery is president down south. When you got nothing, learn to STFU, you’ll appear smarter!

  17. The polls were right about the US. They predicted the vote breakdown with a strong degree of accuracy. It was the pundits that misinterpreted the polls-all except for Nate Silver (PBUH). I think we’ve been over this.

  18. “Someone seriously said that Ford had the best chance of victory in a general election. This is false; polls show him with the worst numbers vs Wynne of all the choices-but still better than Brown.”
Your concern that we are all deluded is duly noted. We totally believe that you are concerned for us. Thanks for being such a great friend to us Conservatives.
Polls are done by the Media. The Media is 100% Liberal. Ford takes this at a walk.

  19. The hard work begins after the election tightrope walk. The focus during the election has to be upon Wynne fiascoes and corruption. That’s easy, and everybday should include mentions of the generating stations and the Thunder Bay bye-election.
Post election, they need to begin the cuts, but it has to follow a plan. Start at the top, and work down. Call in every individual on the provincial payroll who’s making over 300k, and get them all in the same room. Tell all of them that, effective in 60 seconds, they are now earning $270k. Those who object are free to leave, but must leave immediately. If they arrived via a “company” car, and have an employer-owned cell phone, the keys and the phone go in a basket by the door. Their final paycheques will be held pending the provision of any passwords to government computers, and it has been determined that any and all email accounts that have been used for government business have been properly perused. The choices and consequences must be immediate.
This pattern must be repeated, with decreasing reductions down the line. The goal is to eliminate pay cuts at roughly the average Canadian personal income.
The next step has to be the immediate elimination of non-essential services. Ministries and departments related to language, culture, the arts, etc., must be shuttered and the employees dismissed. Period. These people made clear, conscious choices to work and expect payment in useless departments. Their choices are their problems. Send them home and don’t give a damn when they cry.
Pension reform has to be imposed with harsh immediacy. Impose a maximum pension of 75% of the average Ontario personal income, regardless of earnings that would indicate a higher pension. Use the fallback that those who might qualify for a higher pension are free to withdraw from their pension payment obligations and rely on their own personal savings.
The teaching profession, and universities must be tackled as a bloc. Again, focus on cuts at the top and in administration. School boards that fail to rein in spending must simply be cut off from provincial funds. Rely heavily on the use of the word “choice”, and emphasize that the choices are job cuts OR pay cuts. In most cases, entire groups can be given choices between cuts in pay or job cuts. They will be free to choose.
By focusing the start of the efforts at the upper end, this lays the ground work for the cuts going down the scale. Those at the bottom know that if the ones at the top don’t take big cuts, their jobs may be on the line. This creates a support net within government itself.
The key to cutting the cost of government is that the cuts must be swift, harsh, and EARLY. By focusing early efforts on non-essentials and “fat cats”, you potentially nullify the inevitable protests. Who’s going to take a day off work to protest the pay cuts of $300k bureaucrats? And those that do, risk making themselves look like they’re trying to protect wasteful spending.
Here’s the bonus. Yes, some of the people at the front of the cuts will quit. But, most won’t. Where are they going to go? Most upper managers in government who take a stab at the private sector fail. They fail because they’ve never labored under the notion that they need to produce profits and growth. Upper management in government is largely an exercise in attracting budget allocations and employee count growth. Plus, there is no actual evidence that high executive pay within government generates the results desired. True success in almost any government endeavor would mean the eradication of the problem tasked, and the elimination of the relevant department. Pay cuts at the top will either lead to more organizational dynamism as people depart for the money they feel they can earn in the private sector, or simply reductions in costs for no other real change. There aren’t really any other worrisome potential outcomes.
Besides, even if large numbers of people threaten to quit, where are they going to go? If the government arbitrarily cuts the pay of teachers, school superintendents, and university professors, where are those people going to go if they quit? In Ontario, you could fire 20% of the teaching profession and fill those jobs overnight with the people who already have teaching certificates, but no teaching job. The net result will still be the same-semi-literate high school grads.
Cut swiftly and harshly, and then don’t back down. Big cuts in the first 90 days. As the cuts begin to translate into savings, begin the process of passing the savings back to taxpayers.

  20. “Polls are done by the Media. The Media is 100% Liberal. ”
Sorry, that’s now reality works. First, the media isn’t some collective that’s all against you. Second, even if they were, doesn’t make the polls wrong. Facts are facts. Maybe if you dealt with reality instead of building a giant victim complex, you wouldn’t be failing.

  21. Despite Rob Ford’s keen aversion to wasting tax dollars, his cluster-f*ck of a personal life made him an international joke. Doug is going to have to deal with that, I’m sure the left would consider themselves fools to not capitalize on such mud-slinging ammo. They should be careful of where they step though, denigrating a competitor posthumously is a classless tactic full of landmines.
In another reality, I would have seriously doubted the intelligence of placing Doug Ford as leader. But, in today’s climate of political civil war, I think he may be a fine choice to throw Ontario leftards off their game.

  22. It doesn’t matter who won, the media will be calling them LITTERALLY HITLER during the campaign. Ford’s had that nonsense for years. I think he’ll fight, hopefully dirty. If he show’s at a campaign stop in a pussy hat I’ll send him money.
People can say whatever they want about the Ford’s, they’re the only prominent politicians in this province since Harris who actually give a shit about working taxpayers.
If Ford does nothing but drive the red tories out of the party it will be a step forward.

  23. Now this guy has a plan!
“Cut swiftly and harshly, and then don’t back down. Big cuts in the first 90 days. ”
YES. THIS THIS. ‘Incrementalism’ = failure. Reform happens quickly or not at all.

  24. “I think we’ve been over this.”
So you’re now referring to yourself as a multiple personality sock puppet.

  25. Exactly. Ford was the only right choice.
Elliott is a career politico. She puts the progressive in PC.
Mulroney? Never taken seriously, really. No more family dynasties, please.
And sorry, the other gal meant well, and has a good future, but, Ford has the experience to do what needs to be done after 16 years of corrupt, socialism failures. I don’t know how those on Morontariowe have put up with this garbage for so long, the turning point, from way out here, must have been the quadrupling of Hydro rates. That is flat out irresponsible of any government to allow to happen. Even a doubling of rates is undue pain and suffering on every taxpayer and ratepayer. And Wynnes Libs doubled down on that. Foolish, foolish, foolish.
Ontario needs a housecleaning, similar to the one about to happen in Alberta, and B.C. after that!

  26. I also think Ford was the right choice, but have a different perspective on a couple of your points. Tanya was good to have in the race because she highlighted what has been amiss with the PC party (and of course the Liberal Party). She told you exactly what people are mad about. Some people came out and voted because of her, and for many, their second choice was Doug. Mulroney was interesting and may have a good future in the Party. I was impressed with her performance. I believe she is a lot more capable than Trudeau. Elliott I liked last time when she went against Brown. This time she looked too much like Liberal lite.

  27. “I believe she (Mulroney) is a lot more capable than Trudeau.”
I have a potted plant that is a lot more capable than Trudeau.

  28. Ford won’t appeal to the progressive vote the party has worked hard to not offend since Eves was Premier.
Instead Ford will appeal to all the conservatives that have been ignored and or told to keep quiet for too long.
They have a reason to show up on election day now.
The biggest mistake Wynne has made is to refer to Ford as a Conservative like it was an insult.

  29. More Libertarian than social conservative but I thought Tanya showed a lot of passion (no not shrillness) in the debates whereas Mulroney and Elliott were curiously flat. They would have been too low key to fight Wynne properly.

  30. to me this fustercluck points out the extreme hazard of ‘electronic’ voting.
so many foulups, taking 6,8 15, 24 hours to ‘fix’ in order to ‘same time’.
aaaaaaand no paper trails!!! whoppie !!! save a tree !!!!
