Tuesday: The new Dewberry Arena has been completed and is in use. The small thriving community with a population of fewer than 200 people finished the project which cost a total of $3,900,000.
Wednesday:
The temporary Parliament Hill skating rink will be open for 3 weeks next month – @CdnHeritage confirms it costs $5.6 million and that doesn't include security.

More money than brains, indeed.

not much needs to be said. cap…parking 1400.
I guess the difference is those selfish people in Dewberry just built their arena for themselves, and they want to keep it for their whole lives while our public servants in Ottawa built Parliament Hill’s temporary skating rink for all Canadians. And it’s temporary, remember, that’s so generous that they would do all that spending for just a short period, so that all Canadians can go skating if we happen to be visiting the capital in the next few weeks.
Isn’t the Parliament Hill rink pretty close to another long skinny temporary rink that people can skate on for free?
Are you thinking of the pre-global warming times, when “snow” would sometimes fall from the sky (google it, “snow” is a radical idea from the before-times), and open water bodies would sometimes freeze and form ice without the use of a freezer.
Silly you. Now change into your swimsuit and go outside and play.
Thanks for that just a poser
I wonder how much of that 5.6 million is going to “consultants” who are just Liberal bag men. The Liberals use anything for a slush fund these days. A haircut probably costs a thousand bucks.
These events contrast the differences between citizens conducting their own business, and large government. Through laziness, we have allowed big government to waste time, money and resources. We need to tell them “No” when it comes to grants, and loans of our own money back to us, and then stop paying them to handle things we can handle ourselves. Private enterprises can always outstrip government actions.
They paid over $20 million to audit Senator’s expenses which was likely more than the Senator’s expenses. It was to enforce Senate rules while a judge concluded the Senate had no rules. Liberal contractors always need money.
Money ? Nahhhhh … Other people’s money … mostly from those too brain dead to see how THEIR portion is being wasted. Keep voting lib. Keep wasting YOUR treasure … pillaged by the Pirates of Pence-antz
I suspect this Ottawa rink was constructed as a backdrop for a Trudeau speech where he can remind us once again that “Diversity is our strength.” Maybe he will mention that beating your wife with a hockey stick is not a Canadian value.
It’s just money.
Volunteer labor in Dewberry versus unionized and shop stewarded/safety officered labor in Ottawa.
I’m surprised they brought it in so cheap in our beloved Nation’s capitol, perhaps the inevitable cost overruns haven’t been calculated yet.
Hey here is a novel plan, why not find a piece of flat ground, wait till the temperature is below freezing and turn on the garden hose. What a bunch of wankers.
But sadly, no hockey game.
“Why the government decided against an NHL game on Parliament Hill for Canada 150.”
The NHL had offered designs for a stadium of between 23,000 and 27,000 seats on the hill that would have started construction in mid-October this year and been open to the game in mid-December and then deconstructed through January.”
The department also appeared to worry about setting a precedent, but in a briefing note they wrote they didn’t think anyone would want to try this again.”
“Given the condition that a profit not be made from the event, it is unlikely that other organizations will proactively seek to host an event on Parliament Hill.”
Heritage Minister Mélanie Joly said her department gave the idea due consideration, but ultimately it was not the right fit.”
“The idea of Canada 150 has been to empower communities and we have wanted to have a very bottom-up approach,” she said.”
Joly said it makes more sense to have ordinary Canadians skating on the hill.”
Sure, but not both because that would involve evil profiteers who in general are only responsible for our freedom and prosperity.
Our government feels more like the Fool on the Hill than community emperors, I mean empowerers.

I think people are missing the point here… There is no amount of taxpayer money that can”t be spent on shiny photo op’s for the terrible actor with the “cool socks”, no amount. Constant campaigning of the Lisp on the taxpayer dime costs money, just be happy that your tax dollars are being spent helping the retard get re-elected. I wonder if this very expensive photo op for a globalist dipshit like Justine will be solo or will the retard use his Family as props, again. Hooray for Trudopia! Maybe Justine can skate around the rink with some of the ISIS terrorists returning from their raping and murdering holiday, that should be worth a few votes.
I’m guessing PM Sock Puppet would be ankling around holding onto a chair.
The rules for the Parliament Hill ice include:
“It may be slippery,” the rink disclaimer reads.
More on the rules here:
http://www.ctvnews.ca/politics/parliament-hill-rink-to-stay-open-longer-still-no-hockey-or-hot-cocoa-1.3690820
Now the ice will be left in place until the end of February..for Ottawa’s Winterlude dotcha know.
Yeah, probably ankles around in a pair of girls white skates too… cause “diverthity is our stwegnth” and “those working hard to join the middow clath”.
I wonder how many of the contractors that benefited from this project were from Quebec? You can bet your boots that plenty of them were from the swamp and that they brought their own employees from there to perform the “work”. Years ago Mike Harris tried to put a stop to Quebec contractors working in Ottawa since Ontario workers were not allowed to work in Quebec. He was stonwalled by not only the Quebec Liberals and the Bloc Quebec but also by the Ontario Provincial Liberals and even the NDP Provincially and Federally. This is politics as usual in Canada s National Capital Region, or should that now be Canada s Post National Capital Region.
