[The Washington press corps] are constantly telling us that their job is to keep powerful people accountable, to comfort the afflicted and afflict the comfortable, to “speak truth to power.” They suggest that without them, “Democracy Dies in Darkness,” to use The Washington Post’s rather self-important tagline.
But, just like Hollywood, the Washington press corps has its own “open secrets.”

secrets? did somebody say secrets?
“Because, gawd knows… …it’s not like my PC has ever crashed.”
if this thing is so bulletproof and beneficial, why were the trials
conducted in secret?

The author repeatedly refers to reporters as having a profession. Journalism is not a profession and never will be. It is a job, nothing more.
Professions are recognized by specific traits – an independent body of peers who develop standards for the profession, review qualifications, monitor and assess performance, issue professional credentials, and have the ability to suspend or cancel these credentials for malfeasance or other issues. Doctors and engineers are two examples of people in professions.
If journalism was a profession, about 95% of the current reporters would be deemed to be ineligible and 4% would later have their professional credential revoked. The remaining 1% would be deemed to be eligible and in good standing.
Well said!
Yup, well said!!
I third it, well said.
Agreed … however … there still are “good” doctors and “bad” Doctors. “Bad” Doctors like the ones who sell opiate prescriptions to criminals, and those doctors involved in (rampant) Medicare Fraud. But I agree, there are -0- “professional” standards or ethics among so-called “journalists”. They are simply all hardcore ideologues pushing their own biased agenda. For example … the absolutely DISGUSTING “question” asked/told at the White House Press Conference. DISGUSTING.

The point of having a “profession” is that the other people in that profession will gang up on you and kick your @$$ if you step out of line. In the medical world, if a guy steps out of line too many times, all the other docs will stop referring him patients loooong before the College of Physicians gets involved.
We see no such behavior among journalists. We see thuggery, we see them flinging poo at the Approved Target Du Jour, we see them marching in lock step on almost every news item, we see a very tenuous attachment to the truth at best.
What we -never- see is anything resembling sober, thoughtful adherence to their stated values. You see that in doctors all the time, as one would hope. In journalists, we see only the fear of the Communist that they are not signalling their obedience to The Cause loudly enough.
And you know that a good Communist never speaks ill of the Commissar, no matter how great a pervert he may be.
