    I had a cousin (born in Sask.) who was in the Canadian Army in England and set to go to Dunkirk. He contracted pneumonia and died a few days before the invasion.

    As far as I know Canada had 4 destroyers at Dunkirk and that’s it. That said, anything is possible.
    The 1st Canadian Division were partially landed in Brittany, after Dunkirk, but were quickly evacuated when the situation became hopeless. They suffered only one fatality and a few missing.

  24. I don’t know about you, but I find this truly astonishing:

    This is from a piece by Tasha Kherridde in iPolitics.
    So, FGM is a crime in Canada, but we are not going to mention it in our citizenship guide. Undoubtedly, they are also getting rid of any references to “barbaric crimes”. While some Canadians balked at the use of the term, the terminology was NOT intended for Canadians. It was for newcomers and the intention was to impress upon them the seriousess of such things as honour killings. The word “barbaric” is entirely appropriate.
    Liberals are really lowering the bar when it comes to what is acceptable in Canadian society. Did we just not have some fellow claiming no one told him not to beat his wife?? Canadian standards must be very clear. We do not tolerate barbaric crimes.

  29. I don’t even know what that crap about humour is supposed to communicate. What exactly are immigrants to do about respecting treaties? I don’t know what I am supposed to do. Liberals seems to have completely lost sight of what the purpose for this guide is. Why are they consulting all these different departments? Do government departments now define Canadian values and culture? What a mess is right. If you have ever worked for a bureaucracy you will know how too many cooks ruin the soup. That is what is happening here. Liberals are totally lost in their obsession with political correctness. Watch for more FMG, honour killings and husbands hitting their wives with hockey sticks because no one told them it was unacceptable.

    He was my mother’s first cousin, she always told us that he died in a British hospital just a few days before the invasion of Dunkirk.. It could be just coincidence, however she believed that he was set to be a part of the invasion.
    My Grandmother had a brother who died at the Battle of the Somme in France during WWI. She always told me that he had died and that his body had never been found. She died in 1958. In 2009, I was asked to do a presentation for Remembrance Day. I did a search on the net and found his grave in a British cemetery in Western France near the Belgium border. I also found out that he had homesteaded near Moose Jaw. Nobody in our family seemed to know much about him.
    WWII records however are not so easy to search. I will however find out, some day. Thanks for you input.
