  1. Like father, like son.
    For the first time since the government of Pierre Trudeau, the budget implementation bill contains an “escalator tax”. If passed as-is, the tax on beer, wine, and spirits will continue to rise by the rate of inflation, *forever*. So if in 2018 inflation is calculated as 3%, the tax on alcohol will rise 3% in 2019, making the price at the till rise 6%. Parliament doesn’t have to approve the subsequent increases. They just keep adding up year after year.

    All those (former) Rob Ford voters that live in the Liberals’ GTA fortress should be mighty upset with perpetually increasing beer taxes. Reminds me of the Joe Clark 18% gasoline tax — except this one is sneaky and doesn’t prompt sticker shock all at once.

    What I find pathetic here in Canada is that we’re the 2nd largest producer of refined Uranium in the world (22% of world production) and we’re dogging around with wind and solar power projects, all of which are primarily concocted by greens, potheads and government drones who’s brains are fried by THC, Trudeau and lethargy.

  7. When all is said and done and you sit down and think things through the major cause of inflation is taxes. A market shortfall in steel, sugar, coffee beans, or pork bellies generally corrects itself within a year or two but taxes by their very nature will never go down. The more a government taxes and takes away discretionary income then the more society has to strike to replace the discretionary income. It’s about as close to perpetual motion as the sun rising in the East.

  12. The following links to a rare and excellent article by CBC about air pollution with comments enabled. Researchers can now identify where sulphur dioxide pollution comes from via satellite measurements. From the article:
    “Polluters can no longer hide their emissions of sulphur dioxide by failing to report them. Canadian researchers have found a way to detect that kind of pollution using satellites.
    In doing so, they’ve uncovered some very big polluters: oil and gas plants in the Persian Gulf that hadn’t been reporting their emissions.
    Those polluters may be responsible for six to 12 per cent of man-made emissions worldwide of sulphur dioxide”.

    Seems like an unbiased, non partisan source, as San Fran and feminism are well known for both attributes. I would note there there is no mention of her mind reading abilities which are clearly the crux of this whole mephitic, noxious opinion screed masquerading as bile. And of course she should surely be applauded for her ability to use more malicious epithets in one column on the current President than the entire US media used in two terms of the former.
